What is Apple Car Play. We include musical accompaniment. Music control in CarPlay

On the creation of an autonomous vehicle or software for such vehicles. However, why go far - for two years now Cupertinos have been releasing wonderful CarPlay software for cars. The system is extremely easy to use and provides quick access to music and Apple Maps, as well as phone calls.

In contact with

CarPlay does not use Bluetooth, and iPhone connects using a Lightning cable.

Once connected, the iPhone will automatically sync with CarPlay.

The CarPlay display is very similar to the iPhone screen! That is, CarPlay can actually be viewed as an additional smartphone monitor built into the car's dashboard. Switching apps on iPhone will also switch apps on the CarPlay display and vice versa.

CarPlay lets you make Handsfree calls from your iPhone

This is not to say that CarPlay can do absolutely everything. However, the system allows you to talk on the phone, exchange text messages, use Apple Maps, listen to music and other audio files - what else do you need while driving?

CarPlay Apps

There are a number of apps that support CarPlay, including Audiobooks and several podcast apps.

Apple Maps (unfortunately, so far only in large European cities) works great! They include step by step tips directions and a screen showing the next turn is no worse than any GPS navigator.

If you prefer Google Maps or Waze, you are out of luck. Between CarPlay and Android Auto (developed by Google software for dashboards) there is a big difference. The Apple system can reproduce voice prompts Google Maps through the car speakers, but the maps themselves will not be displayed on the screen.

Music control in CarPlay

Where CarPlay is second to none, it plays music and other audio files. It is very convenient that the smartphone can be controlled using the song switching buttons.

The "Now Playing" screen features large touch-sensitive buttons that let you pause songs and flip through playlists.

Electric Apple Car 2019-2020 - first news and photos, estimated price and configurations, specifications electric car AppleCar from Apple Corporation. The serial version of the new AppleCar will probably appear in 2019-2020 and will be offered to advanced car enthusiasts. price about 50 thousand dollars. Interestingly, Apple has chosen a German electric vehicle as the basis for its new electric vehicle, Apple Car.

The first information about the Applecar project - an electric car from Apple - appeared back in 2008 ( Steve Jobs was very interested in an electric car), but did not receive official confirmation. Only after the debut of the electric first-born of Tesla Motors, the founders of the American corporation Apple seriously thought about creating an electric car Apple Car. The new automotive direction for the company was named Project Titan. To work on the project, not only Apple specialists were involved, but also a number of engineers and designers of the automotive industry who had worked in well-known automotive companies.

According to unofficial information, in the last three years alone, a lot of specialists managed to take part in the work on the project, however, these are mainly engineers engaged in automatic control and development of autopilots: Jamie Carlson (a specialist in autopilots for cars, previously developing Tesla Autopilot), Megan McClain (former Volkswagen AG employee - also autopilot specialist), Sanjai Massey (formerly at Ford), Stefan Weber (former employee of Bosch), Lech Szumilas from Delphi, Johann Jungwirth (formerly head of Mercedes development), Nancy Sun (electrical engineer from Mission Motors) and even Chris Porritt (formerly Tesla's VP of Transportation Engineering). In a word, specialists were involved who could teach an electric car to move autonomously. But what about the technical stuffing, interior and design of the future car? Yes, building a car is a very difficult task, even for a company like Apple. A car is not a smartphone, for a second, so the founders and investors of Apple Corporation decided not to reinvent the wheel, but to use the most modern and advanced version of an electric car for Apple Car - the Bavarian BMW i3.

So that serial version the first Apple Car (there will be both the second and the third ... by analogy with the iPhone) is a redesigned BMW i3 with an original interior that can not only accommodate the driver and three passengers with comfort, but also provide them with a complete set modern gadgets (multiple touch screens and panels, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, integration with iPhone and iPad, induction pads). The salon is completely devoid of physical controls; all functions can be controlled by touching the monitors' fingers or by waving a hand. The most interesting thing is that Apple Car will be able to move autonomously, both with passengers on board and without people in the cabin. The auto piloting function can, of course, be turned off by taking control.
Specifications new electric car Apple Car 2019-2020
According to preliminary information, a serial electric car can be ordered with one or two electric motors (one for each axle) with a capacity of 125-150 kW and rechargeable batteries of various capacities, from 25 to 50 kWh. Depending on the installed battery and electric motor, the electrically propelled firstborn of Apple Corporation can travel 200-400 km without recharging. The time to replenish the stock of electric fuel takes from 30 minutes at special filling stations to 8 hours at home from a regular household network.

Technologies are actively penetrating almost all spheres of human life from smart watch on hand before smart homebut aside from the niche electric car business for now, the overall automotive industry looks pretty conservative. This is partly dictated by the increased safety requirements for passenger transport, so the principle “works - don't touch” has been practiced here for decades. But in a bizarre set of circumstances, progress has often bypassed infotainment systems in cars. Even in expensive models, sometimes very simple screens with graphics that were drawn 20 years ago. Therefore, it is not surprising that in 2014 Apple and Google announced their own interfaces for automotive systems. Until recently, manufacturers sold them as rather expensive options, but today they are increasingly supplied along with a standard multimedia center in the car. Therefore, we decided to take a closer look at what they can offer android users Auto and Apple CarPlay. And for this we used a car that just supports both systems.

Android Auto

The interface for car infotainment systems was announced by Google in 2014, but the program for Android smartphones itself was released only a year later, in 2015. The company then stated that they decided to start developing new systembecause cars, despite their popularity, rarely have an Internet connection. Google decided to solve this problem using smartphones. Therefore, in order to run Android Auto, you first need to download from Google play the corresponding application. And here an unpleasant surprise awaits Ukrainian users, officially the Android Auto program is not available in Ukraine, so you will have to download and install it from third-party repositories.

However, on the part of Google, this is quite logical, since android work Auto is tied to Assistant, but it does not officially work in our country. But does this interfere with using the system in the car? No.

Before moving on to the main android functions Auto, let's dwell a little on the interface. Google took as its basis the developments that were previously used in the first versions of the operating system for Wear OS smartwatches. Here also main screen consists of cards that automatically adapt to typical user tasks.

For example, if a person commutes to work every morning and launches navigation in Google maps including Google Music along the way, Android Auto will first show him the cards of these applications.

In addition to the cards, the system interface includes a navigation panel with buttons quick access to maps, phone, music and go to the built-in car information system, as well as a button in the center, which is responsible for a step back. Actually, this is the entire interface that the user will have to work with. Not enough? Yes, but this is the main idea of \u200b\u200bAndroid Auto, everything should be at hand and so that the driver is less distracted from following the road. Therefore, for example, there is no application menu in the system, although third party programs Android Auto supports, but only certain categories. For example, instead of Google Music, you can use or select one of the available programs for radio, audiobooks and podcasts to listen to music. Thus, the main focus of Google is on audio, as it is less distracting for the driver in the car.

For the same reason, Android Auto will not display the text of incoming messages on the screen, but only speak them. You can only answer them by voice, here Google's speech recognition comes into play, which does its job quite well. It should be noted that if the application itself supports Android Auto, then its notification will be sounded by the system. Now the system is supported by such popular messengers as Telegram, WhatsApp, Skype, Hangouts, Kik, WeChat. But here's to answer letters in gmail it is impossible and Google does not plan to add this feature yet.

The focus on safety in Android Auto is evident even in the most unexpected moments. For example, while listening to music, the system will not let you scroll through playlists on Google Play for a long time. If you want to run a playlist, you have to do it quickly. Better yet, ask for it using a voice command.

If both applications are installed on the smartphone, then at the first start it offers to select one of them, and in the future it will open automatically. Considering that built-in navigation in the car is mostly a paid option, and also the fact that it does not receive data on traffic jams, Google Maps and Waze can significantly simplify movement around the city and at the same time work for free.

At the moment, the easiest way to connect your smartphone to Android Auto is via cable, via uSB port in car. Google provided support this year wireless connection to Android Auto for their Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones, but automakers are in no hurry to implement this feature, as it will affect the final price of the car.

In general, it can be noted that Android Auto does not provide all the functionality of a smartphone in the car's infotainment system, however, it does provide a number of useful features for the driver that do not distract him from the road.

Apple CarPlay

Apple announced its car system earlier than Google and implemented it as part of iOS, not a standalone app. In fact, the system broadcasts an image from the smartphone screen. Therefore, Apple CarPlay comes immediately with the iPhone and, accordingly, does not have regional restrictions like Android Auto.

The CarPlay interface is also made in a minimalist style, only in contrast to google versions, Apple's main focus in it is still not on information, but on applications, so the main screen here consists of their icons. CarPlay navigation like on the first iPhone versions, as simple as possible: you can run the program and press the virtual Home button to return to the main screen. Instead of multitasking, Apple CarPlay shows in the left column the three most recently used apps.

Apple's car system logic is the same as Google's - to distract the driver from the road less. Therefore, the main emphasis here is also placed on audio, and not on reading information from the screen. Want to read a message or write to someone? Please, but do it with your voice using Siri.

And the message can be dictated only through the built-in iOS app "Messages" from iMessage, yes WhatsApp, support for which appeared only this year. In this case, for example, receiving calls through Facebook Messenger works. The rest of the instant messaging programs are not yet supported.

Working with audio also means listening to music, and CarPlay has a lot to offer in that regard. The system supports playback of music, podcasts and audiobooks. At the same time, you can listen to music both through Apple Music, and through third party applicationsfor example through Google Music, Deezer and Spotify.

One more important function in Apple CarPlay is navigation, but it is not implemented in the best way now. The fact is that at the time of this writing, the system only supports apple cards Maps, but they do not work in Ukraine in the best way. But already in iOS 12 for CarPlay, third-party navigation programs should appear. In particular, Google Maps and Waze are currently being tested.

Connecting Apple CarPlay to a car is now most often done with a Lightning cable via a USB port, although since iOS 9 the system has added the ability to connect wirelessly. But as with Android Auto, for automakers, wired connections are still the easiest and most importantly available option.

Eventually

Summing up everything written above, it is worth noting that we managed to achieve our goal, namely to make the infotainment system in the car more convenient and, most importantly, connected to the Internet. At the same time, unlike the standard offerings, neither Android Auto nor Apple CarPlay are tied to the car, they regularly receive updates and will offer users even more functions in the future.

2014 Consumer Electronics Show - a show that is often called a meeting of geeks and nerds computer networks in khaki trousers, this year has gathered a record number of automotive exhibitors.

And the world famous corporation Apple at this show showed that it is ready to take a fat piece of the pie in the sphere. The company at this show had a booth named " IOS in the car". And a new phrase" Apple CarPlay"has become closely associated with some car manufacturers, and some of the models will already be released by the end of 2014.

Like many other in-car communication systems, the whole idea of \u200b\u200bCarPlay is to let you do everything in your car without being distracted by the main activity - driving. At the same time, the Siri application plays a key role in the system, which can execute commands under dictation and answer any questions, adapting individually to the style of your speech. But the main thing is that very soon we will find out how well it works, as soon as the equipment in cars appears on the streets of our city.

Demonstration of the CarPlay system in a Ferrari at the Geneva Motor Show

The CarPlay system is pretty straightforward - just like anything else Apple does. You take your iPhone 5, 5S, or 5C and connect it through the dedicated Lightening connector to the car's interface. Voila! Your car now has almost all the functions of your phone, just the way you always wanted. However, the car's on-board computer doesn't do all the hard work that runs on your iOS; believe me, he has a lot of other - more important work - such as, after all, reading information from the numerous sensors of the machine in order to save stable work ABS AND ESP or make sure that your airbags are in working order to save your life at the right moment ... and all this while you are smashing boxes in Angry Birds with birds, flipping (and, by voice) the playlist Your favorite band or writing an important note to Evernote. Your iPhone works in conjunction with your car. This means that the applications must be installed on your mobile in order to see them on the vehicle interface in the console. CarPlay fully integrates the car and the iPhone. It works natively with car controls like music playback and phone calls, so you don't have to waste time poking around your phone to make changes. It also works in conjunction with touch screen on the dashboard of your car just like the display on your phone.

Connecting to CarPlay via iPhone

However, not all apps can run on CarPlay, at least not normally. At the same time, it is Apple who will dictate to you the last word on what will work and what will not. Indeed, the choice of application comes down mainly to. The idea behind CarPlay and just about any other in-car entertainment and communication system is to minimize distractions. At least that's what all tech manufacturers claim. In any case, it is very unlikely that Apple can make the same Angry Birds or Doom game safe while you are driving. Music, navigation, and anything that can be operated without the use of hands, or even with the use of one hand, can take place, because your hands and eyes have to be behind the wheel.

If you are an ardent fan of Siri and cannot imagine your life without her voice even for a second, CarPlay will turn your dreams into reality. Siri will speak to you directly from the speakers of your car around you. She will look at the calendar and email and will tell you about upcoming events and appointments while you drive. She will read you SMS messages and allow you to dictate the answer to them.

Since its Geneva debut, only a handful of pre-approved apps have been available on CarPlay. Siri, of course, has become the main one. In addition to Siri, there will definitely be an application (and, most likely, there will be several) for listening to music.

But you are probably already wondering: "Where is the main application that is so necessary on the road?", Right? Yes, such an application will definitely be present with CarPlay, but according to preliminary data, it will not be Google Maps. The problem is that there is no way yet to link google maps with Siri to let you find your destination and get directions to it. You will have to use the Apple Maps option in CarPlay, but you should love it. Although, however, from the first days of its existence, Apple Maps has improved quite a bit.

When Apple debuted CarPlay at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, the company confirmed that it is already working with a dozen car makers, including buying a new car for yourself, you will probably even be given the opportunity to choose the operating environment in which you already live. in everyday life, and for the car you want to buy. And while operating system lives on the phone, not on hard disk car, it makes a lot of sense.

CarPlay is designed to make using your iPhone in your car more convenient.
The CarPlay system is the ability to broadcast the desktop of an Apple smartphone, as well as use its basic capabilities through the car's on-board computer.

How do I use CarPlay?

The main goal of this system is to ensure the convenience and safety of driving. Now, while driving, do phone call or writing SMS has become much easier. It is not at all necessary to pick up the device. You can control it with voice commands, and the instructions will be carried out by the interactive assistant Siri.
CarPlay will work in your vehicle if two conditions are met:
  • you have a smartphone from the manufacturer Apple inc. The function is available for iPhones of the 5th generation and older;
  • your machine supports this interface.
To make sure your iPhone has access to the system, you need to go to Settings-General-CarPlay. Synchronization with a smartphone can be performed in two ways: wirelessly via Bluetooth or via a USB cable. Therefore, by going to the menu, you will be asked to choose a connection method.

It also stores the data of cars to which your device has already been connected and used through the CarPlay system.

You can find out if this interface is available for your car on the official Apple website - on a special page https://www.apple.com/ru/ios/carplay/available-models/. Here you should select the make of the car and see in which models the built-in this interface... If your vehicle is included in this list, then everything is fine and you can move on. Usually, starting from 2017, many car manufacturers declare support for CarPlay.

How do I get started?

First of all, you need to connect your smartphone to the car. And the first thing to do is find the USB input. In the Mercedes Benz GLE 400, this port is hidden in the side armrest box.

In our case, the required connector is marked with a phone image, so we insert it not into the first hole, but into the second one. It is important to use a certified cable. When working with chinese counterfeits smooth operation is not guaranteed.

By connecting a smartphone through original cable lightning port, you will see a message on the on-board monitor of the vehicle. You will be prompted to activate the device automatically or manually. By choosing the first option, the CarPlay system will start on its own.

On iPhone screen you will also need to give permission to use it with the vehicle interface.

If you did everything correctly, then on the on-board computer display you will see an interactive menu with icons, the same as on your phone.

There are several ways to interact with the system:
voice, using the corresponding button on the steering wheel, which activates verbal control. It should be noted that this is the priority way of working. Therefore, even if you launch applications manually, you will continue to give commands to Siri verbally;
  • available devices (buttons, wheels, touchpads, etc.);
  • touching the display if it is touch-sensitive.

"Call me…"

CarPlay allows you to make calls. To do this, you need to launch the "phone" application. So that the driver is not distracted from driving and does not choose the subscriber on his own, Siri will ask you who he would like to call.

To dial the number successfully, you should name the subscriber's name as his contact is recorded in the address book. Otherwise, the assistant will not find the person and the call will not be made.

Turn on the music

Everything is displayed here, as in your mobile device... Files are sorted by artist and album. You can create new or upload previously created playlists.

After selecting the "songs" section, you will see the entire list of iPhone tracks. As with all standard players, the audio files can be shuffled so that the order of their sequence is not remembered.

To start listening to music, just select a song from the list and play it. The interface looks almost the same as on the iPhone: scroll buttons, pause, song duration indicator. In addition, the album cover is even visible in the background, only it is a little vague.

Switching tracks is easy enough. For this, there are rewind buttons. One click to the right or left will launch the next or previous song, respectively.

We correspond without hands

As with the call function, when you launch the "messages" application, Siri will ask you to name the subscriber to whom you want to send an SMS. After the correct command, the second question will follow: "what should I write?"

It is enough to say the text out loud to interactive assistant processed it. Then you will need to confirm the sending of the message sounded earlier. Accordingly, if you answer "yes" to Siri's question about confirmation, then the SMS will be sent, if "no" - it will be saved as a draft.

Note that the CarPlay system makes it just as easy and quick to receive text messages... If you receive a letter, a line with information will appear at the top of the display. You need to click on it to open it.

Siri will ask if you need to read the content. Answer "yes" - the assistant will voice it. And so you can conduct a whole correspondence without typing the text manually. Fast, convenient, and most importantly, there is no need to be distracted from the road.

Always up-to-date navigation

Before you start working with maps, you may need to give the program access to your location. You don't need to go anywhere on your own. When you start "maps" on the screen of the smartphone will appear such a message. You need to click "settings".

In the second step, click on the icon desired application, check the box on the second line, and the geolocation service is activated.

Now, when you start this program, your position will be determined automatically.

To set the route, you need to select the microphone icon in the upper right corner. On help will come Siri, and will ask you to name the desired location. You need to sound both the city and the street. Otherwise, the assistant will consider the address invalid.

Advantages and disadvantages

Based on the above, we can say that the CarPlay system has unconditional advantages. These include:
  • simplicity and ease of use. Voice interaction through Siri's interactive assistant unties your hands. This allows you to solve the necessary tasks without leaving the road;
  • high speed of work and information processing. The system is not a standalone application, it is just an interface integration. Nevertheless, everything functions quite quickly and efficiently;
  • always fresh updates... The internal software of the vehicle becomes obsolete over time. And CarPlay is always up to date thanks to regular iOS updates... You can be sure that the map application will always get you the right route.
Improving, perhaps, only the degree of voice recognition, since occasionally Siri understands words with errors.
