WiFi setup- D-Link DIR-825 router

The D-Link DIR-825 router allows you to connect up to 4 devices in an apartment using wired communication lines at speeds up to 1000 Mbps, and also provides connection wireless devices with speed wireless transmission data up to 300 Mbps. Consider necessary settings of this router to work in the Insys network.

1. Connecting the router to the PC on which the configuration is being performed:

Connect the incoming Insys cable to the yellow port on the router (“INTERNET” port), then you need to connect the network card of your PC with one of the four black ports on the router (“LAN1-4”) with a patch cord. The settings for obtaining an IP address in this case are on network map should be set to 'Get automatically'. You can learn more about network settings on the ethernet interface of a PC in the help sections "Instructions for setting up a network in Windows ...":

2. Enter the router setting interface:

To enter the router configuration interface, you need to open a browser ( Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, etc.) and enter the address http://192.168.0.1/. The default username is admin and the password is admin. If you cannot log into the web interface or the router was previously configured for use in other conditions, we recommend that you restore the factory settings or check the network settings on the PC. The factory settings on this router are restored by pressing the hidden "reset" button for 5-10 seconds. After that, the indicators on the router will turn off and turn on again, which will mean resetting the current settings and returning to the default settings. The settings on the PC should be set to "Obtain automatically . You can learn how to change the network settings on the ethernet interface of a PC in the help sections "Instructions for setting up a network in Windows ..."

There are two options for the router interface - in gray and light blue:

If an option appears in a gray tone, then the router firmware needs to be updated. To do this, after entering the login with a password, you must click on the firmware version at the top of the interface, after which you need to click on "Browse", select the firmware file previously downloaded from the link http://www.dlink.ru/ru/products/5/ 1833_d.html and click "Update":

3. Change the default password:

After entering the data "Login" and "Password" in new firmware you need to change your password:

You need to fill in the data and click "Apply". You can also change the language to Russian by clicking on the phrase "Maybe your language is Russian" at the top of the interface.

If later you go to change the password, then you can do this in the "System - Administrator Password" section. To do this, in the fields "Enter a new password" and "Repeat the entered password" enter New Password to access the router and click "Apply":

It should be clarified that ALL changes in the settings (in this paragraph and in subsequent ones) must be confirmed by clicking on the message in the upper right corner:

Otherwise, your changes will not be saved!

4. Setting up access to the Internet:

To configure access to the Internet, in the Network-WAN section, delete the current connection, create a new one and enter the following data:

Then click the "Apply" button and confirm the change in settings by clicking on the message in the upper right corner, which was described just above.

Then click the "Apply" button and confirm the change of settings by clicking on the message in the upper right corner.

For the wireless network to work correctly, you need to configure the wireless network channel width. To do this, go to the "Wi-Fi / Advanced settings" section and set the "Channel width" parameter: - 20/40MHz-:

Click the "Apply" button and confirm the change of settings by clicking on the message in the upper right corner.

It is necessary to clarify that the router is dual-band and all Wi-Fi network settings above must be changed, both in the 2.4 GHz band and in the 5 GHz band. You can switch ranges on the left in the section:

6. Updating the firmware of the router:

The settings made in the previous paragraphs are enough to access the Internet, but for more stable and high-quality work, it is recommended to update the version of the router's microcontroller. This is done in the "System-Software Update" section. You can either press the "Check for updates" button and the router will automatically update the firmware to the latest version, or download latest version from the D-Link website - http://www.dlink.ru/ru/products/5/1833_d.html and update the firmware manually in the "Local update" item:

These settings are sufficient for comfortable work on the Internet. If you have any questions, you can always contact the 24/7 technical support by phone 8-800-755-05-55.

In this article we will talk about the router, or as we call it - the router Dlink-DIR-825/AC/G1. I have little experience with routers, but I won’t go into mega technical specifications, I’ll try to describe from the point of view of the “teapot”, although I will try to pay attention to some points.

Go. Long time I had a router link dir-615E4, not a bad router, I would say that it is very reliable. There were no disconnects. Didn't suit WIFI speed, a speed of 300 Mbps is declared, but in reality it was difficult to achieve even 150. The main reason is the crooked firmware, as I understand it, a problem with many routers from this company. I decided it was time to change, but what to choose? The main parameters that I paid attention to are WI-FI ac-standard, LAN ports for 1000 Mbps and work at frequencies of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Not very high requirements, but the prices for such devices are also not budget. I laid eyes on the Xiaomi MiWiFi 3c router, everything seems to be fine, but there's a catch - the local network is only 100 Mbps, why and why they did this, the question should not be asked to me. Wandering around the Internet, on the website of some store, I entered the parameters of the router of interest ... And here it is, the price is low, and USB is still there. We must take.

The box externally causes pleasant sensations, glossy with a white background. Previously, the packaging of this manufacturer did not look so "prestigious" - in an orange tone. We chose not by the box, so we move on. The package bundle has become more modest, compared to previous models - Power supply, network cable, instructions and the Dlink-DIR-825 / AC / G1 router itself.

Please do not confuse with DIR-825 / AC / E, DIR-825 / ACF, DIR-825 and other variations - these are different routers. Dlink with models is not always clear and there can be many under one number different models with completely different toppings. Earlier in the package, this manufacturer had a CD for initial installation and wall mounting. Now it is not, and it is not really necessary.

The appearance of the Dlink-DIR-825 / AC / G1 router is a black thin rectangle made of matte plastic and a black glossy stripe on top, there are also 10 soft-backlit operation mode indicators. Antennas 4 pcs, rear 2 antennas, and 2 on the sides, antennas are not removable. On the back are the power buttons, WPS for quick connection devices, Reset to reset to factory settings and a very convenient button to turn off WI-FI. All 4 LAN, 1 WAN and USB connectors are also located there. On the table, it decently takes up space, dimensions are 200 x 132 x 50 mm, and there is no vertical arrangement. When hung on the wall, it looks like a spider with 4 legs. What happens? Looks good overall, but practical application not convenient, although if someone places the router in the pantry or it is hidden from view, then this problem disappears.

Main technical characteristics:
Interfaces: 10/100/1000BASE-T WAN port, 4 10/100/1000BASE-T LAN ports, USB 2.0 port
Indicators: Power, Internet, WPS, Wireless 2.4G, Wireless 5G, 4 LEDs The local network, USB
Buttons: POWER for power on/off, WPS for setting secure wireless connection, WI-FI to enable/disable the wireless network, RESET to restore factory settings
Antenna: 4 external fixed antennas with 5dBi gain

PC connection and interface. Connecting to a computer does not cause any difficulties, everything is standard. We enter the address indicated on the sticker on the bottom of the router, logs, password and we are there. The web interface has jumped far ahead of previous models. Although there was nothing complicated before, now everything is somehow more conveniently done. There is a setup wizard for beginners or you can run through the settings yourself. There is a very convenient "monitoring" that was not there before. I will not focus on all the customization options, I will describe only important and hopefully useful functions.

WAN connection type
LTE, 3G, PPPoE, IPv6 PPPoE, PPPoE Dual Stack, Static IP / Dynamic IP, Static IPv6 / Dynamic IPv6, PPPoE + Static IP / Dynamic IP, PPTP/L2TP, PPTP/L2TP+Static IP, PPTP/L2TP + Dynamic IP .

After setting up the Internet and Wi-fi, we find out that there is a USB port and what does it mean? And this means that the router can work in print server mode, you can connect to it, a “flash drive” or external drive, then we get a semblance of network storage, why the semblance, but because the port is very slow, more precisely, the chip cannot cope and the speed is low. Yes, I almost forgot, this router can download torrent tracker files without any dances and firmware upgrades, but also slowly, I tried it a couple of times, the speed did not increase more than 2 Mbps, but most importantly, it works with 3G and LTE USB modems. The Dlink-DIR-825/AC/G1 has a decent amount of functions. For me personally, the USB port does not matter, the media player is responsible for the network drive and the direct playback of content 3Q F375HW, which also can download "torrents", but also slowly, so this function can be left to a computer or laptop. If there are no other devices, then these functions can be fully used, just slowly. The following are the network functions declared by the manufacturer:

Network Features
Support for IEEE 802.1X standard for Internet connection
DHCP server/relay
DHCPv6 server (Stateful/Stateless), IPv6 prefix delegation
DNS relay
Support for AAAA class DNSv6 records
Dynamic DNS
Static IP Routing
Static IPv6 routing
IGMP Proxy
RIP
UPnP IGD support
VLAN support
Support for the ping function from the outside network (WAN ping respond)
SIP ALG mechanism support
RTSP support
WAN redundancy
Setting the speed, duplex mode, and flow control function in auto-negotiation mode / Manually setting the speed and duplex mode for each Ethernet port
Setting top speed outgoing traffic for each router port
Embedded XUPNPD application
Embedded UDPXY Application

By wi-fi. The throughput is 1200 Mbps. It catches confidently, I did not observe problems with Dlink with this. DIR-825/AC/G1 supports 2.4GHz, 5GHz. Transmitter power 15 dBm, Protocols and standards IEEE802.11a, IEEE802.11ac, IEEE802.11b, IEEE802.11g, IEEE802.11n. Security WEP, WPA/WPA2 Enterprise, WPA/WPA2 Personal, WPS. More about wireless communication there is nothing special to write, it just gives an excellent signal. DIR-825 / AC - it can also be considered for purchase, the main difference is only in the number of antennas, 2 or 4.

The general impression was formed almost immediately, but I decided to write after 4 months of use. The router runs smoothly, almost does not heat up. Haven't had to reload it yet. And I often have 4 devices working on wi-fi and 3 devices on LAN. In total, there are 7 devices working simultaneously. The Internet does not cut. If we again compare the dir-615E4, which seemed to work fine, but if we put the file on download, then on other devices the Internet disappeared altogether, both over the wire and without wires, and over the wired network it also cut the speed decently, but again I repeat - all The problem is in the firmware, I tried a bunch, one is better, and the other is worse, and so it is with everyone.
The bandwidth of Dlink-DIR-825/AC/G1 is enough in full, you can download it to the full from the Internet, while you can watch a 40 GB movie over the network and the Internet works on all devices. My smartphone connects via wi-fi at a speed of 433 Mbps. For 4 months of using this router, I have no complaints, the only flaw is that the 5 GHz connection is occasionally lost. This happened several times and so far this is the only glitch, it will probably be fixed with new firmware. The model is still new and the firmware is still the same. For its price, which is approximately 3000 rubles, it is an excellent option for a router.

PPTP connection without encryption

0. This manual is about setting up the next version of the system

1. WAN Connection Setup => Connection List => Add

2. Click the tab "All settings".

Select connection type - PPTP and leave the interface selection at "Automatically"

Name the connection for example "PPTP-VPNKI", enter the user (tunnel) name received on personal page site site and password.

Specify VPN server - msk.site, leave the authentication protocol in " Auto", set the Encryption parameter to - " Without encryption"

3. A little lower on the page turn off the NAT function for the tunnel interface. You can leave the firewall enabled. Click "Apply" at the bottom of the page.

As a choice, you will be prompted to use the newly created interface as a connection to the Internet or to connect to a virtual private network. You need to specify what connections will be used to connect to the virtual private network.

4. After successfully saving the VPN connection, the router will try to establish a connection, and as a result, you can see the following connection information:

5. After establishing a VPN connection to the VPNKI system, you can proceed to the route settings.

To do this, go to the " Additionally" => "Routing" and click "Add" a new route. You need to add at least one route to the network 172.16.0.0 with a mask of 255.255.0.0 and a gateway of 172.16.0.1 so that you get the result shown in the figure below.

6. You can check the connection by executing the command Ping the address 172.16.0.1

Feature 1

To use a connection with encryption, you need in the connection settings:
- use MS-CHAPv2 authorization and specify what encryption will be used(MPPE)

To connect without encryption, you need:
- use CHAP authorization and specify that encryption will not be used.

Be careful,
all other combinations of authorization and encryption methods will cause the connection to fail!!!

Feature 2

The operation of the PPTP protocol is carried out using the GRE protocol, with which some Internet providers in Russia have technical difficulties. These difficulties will prevent you from using PPTP to build VPN tunnels. These providers include MGTS (Moscow City Telephone Network), Yota, Megafon. However, this is not the case in all parts of their networks.

For the user, the situation will look like that the verification of the username and password will not pass. More precisely, it will not even reach this moment ... In the "Security Events" menu item, you will see the beginning of a successful connection and the last will be a phrase saying that we are ready to check the name and password, but ...

Access granted. No whitelist is set for user. Ready to check username / password.

The absence of a connection and further entries in the log (despite the fact that you are firmly convinced that the login and password are correct) most likely indicates that GRE is not being skipped by your provider. You can google about this.

Our system will work with many types of home and office routers. For more details, see the section on setting up equipment, and it's better to start setting up with this example.
