Setting up port forwarding for DC ++ in ZyXel Keenetic

Setting up port forwarding (port forwarding or Port Forwarding) in ZyXel Keenetic is required if you plan to use programs and devices on your home network that require unsolicited access to them from the provider's network or external Internet. For example, port forwarding in a router is necessary when accessing ip web cameras from the external Internet or when working with file exchange services such as torrent or DC ++. The principle of port forwarding is as follows: you yourself tell your ZyXel Keeentic what type of unsolicited traffic to the router from the outside should be forwarded to a specific IP address of the home network. Let's look at setting up Port Forwarding in a ZyXel Keeentic router using DC ++ as an example.

    Click the Home Network button to configure, as shown in the figure.

  1. The next dialog box registers a permanent IP address for the computer that will use DC ++ on your home network. Select your device that appears in the Home Network Device List table as shown in the figure.

  2. Check the box next to Permanent IP address and click the Register button.

  3. Write down or remember the registered IP address. Click the Security button, then Add Rule.

  4. In the new dialog box, fill in the following items exactly as shown. In the Redirect to address field, enter the address that you wrote down or remembered earlier.

  5. In this example, you specified a rule to forward port 4000 over TCP. For DC ++ use tCP protocols and UDP. For the UDP protocol, do exactly the same, but in the "Protocol" field, specify "UDP", as shown in the figure. / Div\u003e

  6. As a result, a window with redirection rules for tcp / 4000 and udp / 4000 should appear, as shown in the figure. Port forwarding configuration for DC ++ is complete.

  7. Setting up IP-TV and multicast in a ZyXel Keenetic router

    IP-TV is a service digital televisionprovided directly by your ISP. There are two options for using IP-TV via Keenetic: using a set-top box and directly on a computer using special program - VLC, IPTV Player, PC Player, etc. We'll cover IP-TV setup for both cases.

Hello, today we will talk about setting zyXEL router Keenetic Giga II. This model ZyXEL companies is one of the most popular. As the name implies, the speed of receiving and transmitting data of this router is 1000 Mbps, and the data transfer rate over WiFi is up to 300 Mbps. In this article I will introduce you detailed instructions on setting up the ZyXEL Keenetic Giga II. Hope this article helps everyone who came across this page.

Connecting ZyXEL Keenetic Giga II to a computer laptop.

For those who are setting up a router for the first time, I always advise you to configure it by connecting the router to a computer or laptop over a wire. This will save you some headaches while setting up your router.

If you look at the back panel of the router, you will immediately guess where and what to connect. But for those who still find it difficult to figure it out, I will explain step by step what to do.

  1. Power - This is where we connect the power supply and plug it into a power outlet. And click on the power button;
  2. Internet - into this port you insert the provider's Internet wire;
  3. Home network - these ports are where you connect your devices over a wire. Take the short wire (Patch Cord) that came with the router. Plug one end into one of the Home Network ports and the other end of the wire into your computer's network card.

Here are three simple steps connecting ZyXEL Keenetic Giga II.

Factory reset ZyXEL Keenetic Giga II

Each router has the ability to reset all settings to the original ones. This property is very useful, since it often happens that an inexperienced user can change the settings of the router so that later he cannot understand where he was wrong. To solve such problems, the developers built the "Reset" button into the ZyXEL Keenetic Giga II router. It works very simply, you need to press the "Reset" button with any thin object and hold it for 20-30 seconds, then wait a couple of minutes until the router reboots. After that, the router settings will return to factory settings and you will need to configure the router again.

Login to the ZyXEL Keenetic Giga II web server

For those who set up a router for the first time after purchase, you need to open any browser (Opera, Yandex browser, Google Chrome, etc.) and try to open any site. A router connected to your computer will recognize that it is not yet configured for your network and will open a quick setup page.

If the page does not appear as in the figure, you should enter the address of the ZyXEL Keenetic Giga II router in the address bar of the browser, this is 192.168.1.1, or the common address for all ZyXEL routers - my.keenetic.net.If that doesn't work, you should check.

Quick setup ZyXEL Keenetic Giga II

For beginners, I advise you to go through the quick setup first. But also the article has a section on manual setting... To go through the quick setup, click the corresponding button in the web interface " Quick setup". After that, the router will check if the Internet cable is connected, and then the type of connection.

To begin with, he will ask you if your provider has a "poppy address" binding. You should find out this data from those of the provider's support, and if there is a binding, then find out what mac address. If there is no binding, click "My ISP does not register MAC addresses." If there is a binding and you know which poppy address, then we put the point "Other" and write it. If you do not know the "poppy address" or could not get through to the provider, the most correct option would be to put a full stop on the "MAC address of this computer". But this option is only suitable if you are setting up a router on a computer that was previously connected to your provider's Internet.

Next, the router will ask you what type of IP address the provider provides you - you should check with the latter, or draw conclusions based on the article on setting up a network card. Most often, the provider provides automatic receipt ip, and select it.

The next page will ask you to choose your internet connection type. This parameter must also be provided by your ISP (but the router must determine it itself). There are 4 main options to choose from (VPN (L2TP), VPN (PPTP), PPPoE, 802.1x).

Let's take a look at each type separately:

VPN (L2TP) - by selecting given type connection you will need to enter the address VPN server... It must be specified in the contract with the provider

VPN (PPTP) - as in L2TP, you need to enter the server address, which can be obtained from technical support if it is not in the contract.

PPPoE - by selecting this type of connection, the router will ask you to enter a couple of parameters if the provider requires them to be entered. But, most likely, your provider does not use these parameters, so there is nothing to enter, we leave it blank.

802.1x - this parameter is required to connect to the Internet via WiFi (use the router as a repeater). This setting I will explain below.

After determining the type of connection and entering all the parameters, the Internet will be connected. The router will check for new "software". If it is there, the router will ask you to update it, click on the "update" button.

Video will take over settings

Manual Internet setup on ZyXEL Keenetic Giga II

I will say right away that I am not a fan of the first setup method that I described above (quick Internet setup). When I come to a customer, I always choose manual setting.

So, to start manually setting up the Internet, after you have completed all the items in the "Login to the ZyXEL Keenetic Giga II web server" section, click on the "Web configurator" button

After that, you will be presented with a page asking you to set an administrator password. You can choose any password by writing it down with Latin letters and numbers. But I always recommend for beginners to first set the standard one, this is the password - admin. I will explain below how to change it. If you decide to immediately set your unique password, then do not forget to write it down (so as not to forget it later). After you have set the password, click on the "Apply" button.

As soon as you click the "apply" button, the router will accept the settings and ask you to "log in". Here we enter "Username - admin", and the password - if you followed my advice - "admin", if not - the one that you came up with. Click on the "OK" button

Then you will see home page WEB interface.

Go to Internet setup

To configure the Internet, we need to go to the appropriate section of the interface. It is in the tab below in the form of a planet.

Setting up dynamic and static ip - address, cloning mak - address

You are required to know what type of connection your ISP uses, and, most importantly, which IP address you are using: dynamic or static. After you have found these parameters, double-click on " Broadband connection«.

On the page that opens, we are interested in two lines "Configuring ip parameters" and "MAC address". Basically, all providers use "automatic obtaining ip", so in the line "Setting ip parameters" select "Automatic". If your provider has provided you with ip settings, then select "Manual" and enter the appropriate data. Also, many providers bind to the mac address. If you are setting up a router from a computer that was connected to the Internet, you need to select in the “mac-address” line - take from your PC. Also, you can simply set this parameter after specifying it in the technical support of your provider. If there is no binding, just leave the default. Then click on the "Apply" button.

Now, if your provider uses the connection type (PPPoE, PPtP, L2tp), then in the "Internet" section, go to the "PPPoE / VPN" tab and click on the "Add connection" button.

L2TP connection type Beeline, Kyivstar.

A relatively new type of connection is used by some providers. The largest of them: "Russia Beeline", "Ukraine Kievstar". To configure in the window that opens, you need to fill in some parameters:

  1. Type (protocol) - select L2TP from the list;

The most popular connection type among providers. To configure, you need to fill in a couple of parameters:

  1. Type (protocol) - select PPPoE from the list;
  2. Connection via - select our interface. By default, this is Broadband connection (ISP);
  3. Username - we enter your login from the contract with the provider, if not - check with the provider's technical support;
  4. Password - your password from the agreement with the provider;
  5. Configuring IP parameters - select from the "Automatic" list;
  6. We save the settings by clicking on the "Apply" button.

After you have chosen and configured your connection type, you should check your Internet setup. You can do this by opening a new tab on the browser and trying to open any site. If the site does not open, try closing the browser and reopening it, carefully check all the settings according to the instructions. After the Internet is working, you can proceed to the WiFi setup.

With 256 MB of RAM and another 16 MB for firmware, the router downloads data at speeds up to 1 Gbps and transmits the same amount of information using a wired network and up to 300 Mbps wirelessly. The default software list includes a torrent client.

Setting up a router

Before you start configuring the ZyXEL Keenetic Giga, you should turn it on and connect it to the provider's cable and to a computer (or laptop) equipped with a network card. For this, a patch cord is used that is connected to the first LAN port of the device and to the corresponding connector on the PC. The first stage, according to the instructions attached to the ZyXEL Keenetic Giga II, involves the use of any browser, in the address bar of which you should enter "192.168.1.1". To get started, you need to specify the login ("admin") and the default password (the same as the name).

The next step is to go to the device's Internet center and configure the VLAN. To do this, Keenetic Giga requires pressing the "Internet" button at the bottom and going to the IPoE, PPPoE or L2TP tab.

Further user actions depend on the type of connection:

  • for IPoE, it is enough to select the ISP interface, set automatic configuration
  • parameters and enter the MAC address of the computer;
  • for L2TP connection, the connection name, name and password are required;
  • for PPPoE, you only need to enter a name with a password.

Adjust if necessary additional features there are several more steps to be followed. This will allow the router to work properly with file sharing and VPN servers. And also start the operation of the wireless network.
