Updating the operating system windows 7. How to update operating systems.

Quite often, many users are wondering how to update "Windows 7" for free and do not bring trouble on themselves. Today we will discuss this topic. In addition, we also will figure out what kind of underwater rocks can meet and how to get around them.

Data protection

The first thing to do before you update Windows 7 is to prepare correctly. What do you need for this?

First of all, if you have already used your computer, it is best to prepare some weighty drive, which you can later throw all your personal and important data. The whole point is that while working with operating systems, there are various failures, the result of which, as a rule, is a complete reinstallation. Nobody wants to lose their data. So it's better once again to be reinsured before you update the version of "Windows 7" to a newer one.

It would be nice to stock up, just in case, and a reinstallation disk with the operating system. This will help reduce your spending time and effort if during the work happens fatal error, which can ruin the system. From this no one is immune. Now that you have the disk and all the data transferred to a safe place, you need to know some more points before starting the updates. What exactly?

Gathering information about the computer

There are a few more points that you need to know to answer how to update "Windows 7". Its maximum version requires quite impressive computer resources. This means that your computer must match all system requirements, which put forward this or that "axis".

To do this, you better look at the information on the Internet. And information about the computer can be found in the section "My Computer". Usually people are aware of what "sistemkami" their computers have. So, if you are thinking how to update "Windows 7" (professional or any other), then compare how much your computer corresponds to your own ideas. If everything is in order, then you can think what to do next. There is very little left before the process.

Looking for updates

Now let's see how to update "Windows 7". Initial preparation is already over, it's time to think about where to get all the necessary update files. There are several options for the development of events. Let's look at them both in order.

We will begin with the very complex way  - Search for updates on the Internet. This will help you search engine. True, such manipulations can sometimes suffer a crushing fiasco, because under the guise of updates, different viruses and spies can be hidden, which affect the operating system, and then begin to destroy it. Not the most pleasant outcome.

So be careful when searching. It is best to use the official Microsoft website for these needs. It already has all files checked for viruses. So you can be assured of quality and reliability. Searching for updates on the Internet is one of the options how to update "Windows 7". But there is one more, simpler method.

Automation

In "Windows 7" Microsoft Corporation worried about providing its oS  all possible updates and at the same time allow people to choose, put them or not. This is helped by the so-called "Update Center". Just he will help answer how to update "Windows 7".

With the help of this program, if one can call it that, each user has an excellent opportunity to see what updates are now available for his system, and then choose which ones to download and install. All this is done automatically, quickly and for free. Nevertheless, not all use this method.

If you decide to update the operating system using the update center, first check all available updates. For this, there is a corresponding button in the service itself. For work you need the Internet.

When the process comes to an end, the operating system will tell you what updates and how many were found. This helps the user not to get confused and do not start downloading something that he does not need (for example, a language pack of Arabic). All that remains is to mark the necessary update and download it. After that, you can already talk about the very process of updating the operating system.

Caution does not hurt

But be careful. Before you update to "Windows 7", carefully look what you download. As mentioned above, you can run into a computer virus. The consequence of this can be a complete loss of all data and access to the system as a whole. There are such "worms" and "Trojans" that begin to send to their owner your personal data that you enter.

  It's about passwords and accounts. So, instead of the long-awaited update, you lose all the data, and even ruin the computer. Usually a similar situation is obtained when searching for updates on your own on the Internet. So it is highly recommended to use the update center "Windows". But even here it is necessary to be very careful.

The thing is that you can stumble upon an update file that checks the system for authenticity. And now, as you know, many people use hacked versions. So do not mark anything that starts with "K" in the list of available updates. For example, K2065845. So, if you download the update-check, you will get problems instead of updates. When you are completely ready, it's time to start reinstalling.

How to update

It does not matter which method you used. The main thing is that your update is already on the computer and waits until you begin the process. Run the update file. Before you will be a window that resembles the usual reinstaller. Read everything that is written in the window. Now click "Next". After all, after the demonstration of the correspondence of your computer, the update process will begin. It will end automatically, after which the computer needs to be rebooted. After that, it will all end. You can rejoice at your success.

The theme of today's post is the update of windows 7 to the maximum. When buying a laptop or desktop computer with a preinstalled Windows 7 user may encounter some problems. The thing is that Windows 7 Starter, which goes in the kit is only suitable for demonstrating the capabilities of the operating system, but in no way suitable for any convenient communication with a home computer.

Having got the computer with Windows 7 Starter at its disposal and trying to corruptly change the picture on the desktop, the user will be very upset, because there is simply no such option in this version of the system. It is clear that developers want to make a simple distribution for everyday home tasks that do not require software technologies used in corporate solutions. But to exclude from the system such an important simple user a small thing ..?!

Such "trial" versions of the system are justified only to attract attention to the product and force the purchase of a full version of the operating system - confirmation of these words lies in the inability to update Windows 7 Starter or Home to Windows 7 Ultimate. This fact negates all attempts to simply upgrade Windows 7 to a maximum, so the operating system is easier to install from scratch.

However, if you are not afraid of difficulties, you can also upgrade by following these steps: First, check for the "Service Pack" in your version of Windows 7. Click Start - Computer - Properties (right-click) and evaluate its availability. If you have Service Pack 1 installed, the picture will look like this ... and you can proceed to the next upgrade point.

If this label is not on your computer, you need to install this package! To do this, go to "Windows Update" click "Search for updates" and update your computer to the maximum!

After installing Service Pack 1, you will see a window that says that windows does not require an update.

In the window that appears, select the key entry for the system upgrade;

If you have a system interface in Russian, then you need to select the next tab.

I will not tell you about that. where to get the keys to enter the appeared field, because I am a supporter of the licensed software, and I think that licensed products are the best solution for any application! But for those who still want to start a transition to a more full version  os windows 7 without a license key, I can advise google search, which displays a bunch of links to the key generator for upgrade already in the top ten.

Download the one that you like best and generate the key for the version you need! I'm using license key  from Microsoft for the transition to Windows 7 Ultimate.

Then, following the instructions, a Windows update window appears with an indicator of the progress of the task. When the computer is finished, it automatically reboots. It is necessary to repeat the above operations only when the update key is requested.

These manipulations will get you Windows 7 Ultimate, as the main OS. If you chose as your version of Professional, I can assure you, you will not notice the difference in visual and technical terms between Ultimate and Professional.

At the time of the release of Windows 7, only one comprehensive service pack was released for it - Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 1. This package includes more than 800 various fixes that improve the security, performance and stability of the OS. A number of updates to the first service pack eliminates errors that lead to crashes and crashes of the system and programs, but the main part - closes the vulnerabilities, that is, prevents the hidden from the user implementation and execution of malicious code. SP1, like other service packs for Windows, is distributed free of charge, but not always in official distributions. To install, you need to download it from the official Microsoft site or simply include in Windows 7 function automatic updates. If there is a problem with Internet access or if you can not download large amounts of traffic - SP1 can also be purchased on a DVD.

Checking for Service Pack 1

To find out if the most recent version of the system is installed on your PC, open its properties by selecting the same item in the context menu  folder "Computer".   At the top of the properties window, in the "Windows edition" section, there is information about the installed service pack.

  If there is a mention of Service Pack 1, then you have the latest version of Windows 7. If not - you need to install the update package separately.

Installing Service Pack 1 through Windows Update 7

Preliminary preparation

  • Before loading SP1, it's important to make sure that there is enough hard disk space for it free space. If you have a 32-bit version of Windows 7 OS, you will need 4100 MB disk spaceif 64-bit is 7400 MB.
  • Next, in case of a failure, it is necessary to do backups  all important data. It is best for this to work external drive  or non-system partition of the hard disk.
  • If you are installing the update package on the laptop, charge the battery completely and connect the machine to the mains.
  • Some antivirus software  can block the installation of the service pack, so to avoid possible problems, after downloading the package temporarily unload the antivirus and, in order not to leave the computer without protection from threats from the network, disconnect it from the Internet.

If Windows reports that this version  The service pack is already installed or there will be errors during the installation, it is possible that your system contains any parts of this package or its preliminary releases. In this case, the old release of the package must be deleted. For this:

  • run the Control Panel applet "Programs and Features", click "View installed updates";

  • after a computer restart, you can install a new package.

If the computer has unlimited access to the Internet, it will be most convenient to use the auto-update feature of the system: the service pack will be downloaded and installed automatically.

  • Open the "System and Security" section of the control panel.

  • Near the item "Windows Update" click "Check for Updates".

  • After the scan is complete, click on the link "Important updates: # available"

  • Select from list KB 976932 (Package microsoft updates  Windows), select and click OK.

  • Then again go back to the "System and Security" section, next to "Windows Update" click on "Enable or Disable Automatic Updates".

  • From the "Important updates" drop-down list, select "Install automatically". Below this list, configure a convenient schedule for their verification and installation.

  After performing these actions, the operating system on your PC will be kept up-to-date.

Install Service Pack 1 from the Microsoft Download Center

  • Open the Web page for downloading Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 in the Microsoft Download Center. Select the language you need and click "Download".

  • Mark the package that matches the width of your system, and click "Next".

  After downloading, run the installation file and follow the instructions on the screen. At the end of the installation process, the system will be restarted. After it re-boots, do not forget to enable the antivirus.

Installing Service Pack 1 from a DVD

This method is convenient when the computer on which you are going to install SP1 is not connected to the Internet. If you can not burn the disc yourself, you can order it on the Microsoft website. However, this is not free: a fee of $ 10.50 is charged for shipping. After selecting the package of updates of the desired language, enter the recipient's information in the appropriate forms on the site, use the bank card to pay the order and wait for it at the post office. To install SP 1, place the DVD in the drive and follow the installer's instructions. Anyone can cope, since the whole procedure is the same as installing normal programs from the disk. You will learn about the success of the operation after the system is rebooted, when a notification appears on the screen that your computer now has Service Pack 1. And this is the latest, updated version of Windows 7.

Many users are very often faced with upgrade problems in Windows 7. The system constantly displays a message that it is searching for updates, but finds nothing.

There is one solution to this problem. It's enough to manually download and install just one package from Microsoft, which will eliminate this error. Consider why the update center for windows 7 does not find an update.

For quite a long time, Windows 7 update center creates serious problems for its users. Unfortunately, I myself belong to the group that is experiencing problems with its center at the "Seven". On one of my computers, at any attempt, the search ends with an endless message "The update is searching ...". At first I assumed that the system was looking for updates for a long time, but when the computer was left on for the night, it did not bring the desired result. What should I do if Windows 7 Update does not work properly?

It turned out that this problem can be solved quite easily. Of course, I do not guarantee that the proposed method solves the problem absolutely for all users, but it was instantly solved by me - by installing the KB3172605 package and running several other simple actions. Here's what you need to do to fix the problem.

Step 1: Download the update for your system (but do not install it)

The first step is to download the KB3172605 package directly from the Microsoft website using a web browser. You will find the direct links below for the 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

You need to download the package, but do not install it yet - we will do this in step 4. First we need to perform two simple steps.

Important! If in the fourth step you encounter the problem of installing the above package (for example, the system incompatibility message appears on the screen), then instead of the above, you should download the KB3020369 package by following the links below. But do this only if the above updates do not work.

Step 2: Disable Internet access

Downloaded files should be installed when the Internet is off. If you are using Wi-Fi, then click on the icon wireless network  In the notification area (in the lower right corner of the screen), disconnect the connection. If you are connected to the Internet using network cable, then you can disconnect it from the computer.

Alternatively, right-click the network icon, select "Network Management Center and sharing", Then go to the" Change adapter settings "tab and disable network card, with which you connect to the Internet.

Step 3: Stop the Windows Update Service

After disconnecting from the Internet, we need to stop the service center windows Updates. To do this, press the Windows + R key combination, enter the following command in the "Run" window that appears and confirm it by pressing Enter:

services.msc

The system services window opens. Find the Update Center service in the list ( Windows Update), and then right click on it and select "Stop". Verify that the service is stopped and then close this window.

Step 4: Install the KB3172605 package (or KB3020369)

Only now you can proceed with the installation of the previously downloaded KB3172605 file for your system. Run the file with the installer and confirm the installation.

If an error appears that the update is not compatible with your operating system, make sure that you downloaded the correct version for your system (32-bit or 64-bit). If again gives an error, use the alternative package from the first step.

After installation, you will be prompted to restart the computer. Confirm and wait for the update to be installed and the operating system to boot.

After the system boots up, connect the Internet and turn on the Windows Update service (right click on it and select "Start").

Now go to the Windows Update window (for example, using search string  in the Start menu) and then click on the update search button.

After about 5-10 minutes, a list of updates available for installation will be displayed. In my case, the search went on for a few minutes and, thus, finally solved the problem with an infinite search in the Windows Update Center.

Upgrading Windows 7 without Windows Update

Sometimes Windows Update does not download updates, especially when there are a lot of them. Most often this happens after reinstalling the system - we installed a fresh operating system and suddenly the center reports that hundreds of updates are available for installation. Already downloading them one by one takes a very long time, not to mention their installation. This is often problematic and ends with a message of recovery previous settings  computer, because such a number of updates can not be established (the solution is to install them in small batches).

Fortunately, Microsoft after several years decided to do something about this problem, in view of the fact that many users do not properly update the "seven" latest version. The company decided to publish on the Microsoft Catalog website download packages for download. Packages are constantly updated and are currently available for 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows  7 and 64-bit Windows Server 2008 R2.

The huge advantage of such packaging is that we do not need to download hundreds of individual packages through windows Center  Update.
  In order to install them, the "Seven" should include:

  • installed Service Pack 1 (SP1);
  • package KB3020369 from April 2015.

When these conditions are met, we can download a cumulative package that refreshes our system to the latest version in one click. To do this, go to the following link using the browser Internet Explorer  (unfortunately, the next page works only under IE):

Download Update Rollup for Windows 7 / Server 2008

When you log in to the site, the list of found updates will be displayed. There will be three available for download:

  • for Windows 7 (only for 32-bit version);
  • for win Computers  7 on the basis of x64 processors (only for 64-bit version);
  • for Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 (only for 64-bit versions).

Download the package that corresponds to the width of your Windows and install it as standard, running installation file. The cumulative package requires a minimum of 4 GB of free disk space.
