Which phones support Android Pay. How Android Pay works in Russia: is it safe

And how to understand if the phone supports Android Pay, we will tell in this article.

Android operating system

In the modern world, there is a constant growth in the sale of mobile devices from different manufacturers. In Russia, devices running on the Android operating system are especially popular. The official logo of the Android OS and its trademark is a bright green robot, easily recognizable on many devices and even smartwatches. Today, devices under control Android are the most popular in the world.

Which manufacturers are making their Android smartphones? The list of companies is very large. This includes manufacturers such as:

  • Samsung;
  • Xiaomi;
  • Acer;
  • Sony;
  • Lenovo;
  • Alcatel;

and many other well-known brands. When choosing a mobile device to guarantee Android Pay, you need to pay attention to its technical characteristics.

Features to support Android Pay

For you to be able to use the contactless application using your phone, your smartphone must meet the following conditions:

1. Android operating system version. OS must be at least Android 4.4. Android Pay will also not work on devices with the developer version of Android installed.

2. The presence of the NFC module in the phone. The NFC module is designed to transfer data from a smartphone to a payment terminal. If you are just going to buy a smartphone, then it is advisable to check its availability with the seller or see it yourself in the phone settings menu, in the "Wireless networks" section. For further work with Android Pay, the NFC module must be activated; you can also do this in the "Settings" - "Wireless networks" - "NFC" menu.

3. The official version of Android. Phones and other Android gadgets that have a third-party operating system installed or have superuser (root) rights will not work with Android Pay. This is a prerequisite that Google tries to protect its customers from possible fraudulent schemes. If you are not worried about it, then on our website you can find information on installing Android Pay on a rooted phone.

Android Pay doesn't work

If a android Pay does not workthen check the list of other possible problems why the Android Pay payment service does not work on the phone:

  • Android bootloader must be unlocked;
  • Android Pay doesn't work if Samsung My Knox app is installed;
  • Smartphone to work with Android Pay must be certified by Google. Android Pay is not supported on non-Google certified phones.

What devices does Android Pay not work on?

Despite the suitable specifications, some phones will still not support the Android Pay contactless payment system. Android Pay not supported on:

  • Samsung Galaxy Light
  • Samsung Galaxy S3
  • Samsung Galaxy Note III
  • Nexus 7
  • P9000 Elephone.

Phones supporting Android Pay

Almost any modern phone with an installed NFC module and a modern version of Android OS (above 4.4) will work with Android Pay. Apple and Samsung also released analogs of contactless payment service Apple Pay and Samsung Pay,which have their own advantages and disadvantages.

Check the specifications of your mobile device. If everything is in order, you can, and then you can start making convenient contactless purchases!

If you have any problems with Android Pay, leave comments!

So the moment came when Android Pay reached Russia. The official release date in the Russian Federation is May 23, 2017. The new payment method is of great importance as about 80% of the population has an Android phone. Accordingly, it is necessary to "sort out" some aspects of the novelty on the shelves.

Is a technology that allows you to make contactless payments using your Android phone. To use it, a special application "Android Pay" is installed on a smartphone (or on another suitable device, for example, a smart watch), in which plastic cards are "scanned".

Which banks support this technology?

A complete list of banks and payment systems that support Android Pay. At the time of this writing, there are 14 banks and 1 payment system.

  • Sberbank
  • Yandex money
  • VTB 24
  • B&N Bank
  • Promsvyazbank
  • Opening
  • Rosselkhozbank
  • Dot
  • AK Bars
  • Alfa Bank
  • MTS Bank
  • Raiffeisenbank
  • Tinkoff Bank
  • Rocketbank
  • Russian standard

How to start using?

Download the app from Google Play. Downloading from there, no need to install the application from third-party resources!

Next, add a card. To do this, the application will open a camera through which you have to scan the required plastic card. Then enter the date and CVC code. Wait for an SMS message from the bank, and enter the code that is indicated in it. Test 30 rubles will be debited from you, and after a short period of time, they will be credited back.

Is it safe?

Yes, this payment method is safe to use. There will be no actual binding of real data to any transaction. When paying, in the "cloud" each time new sets of symbols will be generated, replacing real data. The real details are stored on Google servers in encrypted form.

When entering the application, you need to unlock (standard: enter a pin code, pattern, etc.), the screen lock is set during installation. In case you want to disable the lock, the data will be erased.

In case of theft or loss of the phone, you can block or delete data remotely, through the service Android Device Manager.

What is needed for the application to work?

Operating system Android, version 4.4 or higher

Having a working NFC chip

Attention! If your device is rooted or unofficial firmware is installed, then there is a chance that the application will not work. The same applies to Chinese phones purchased, for example, from Aliexpress.

Do i need internet when using android pay?

Also, a question of interest to many - can Android Pei work without the Internet? It can, but not for long. The fact is that information about transactions is stored in the Google cloud, in encrypted form. Accordingly, without a network connection, Android must use tokens from the phone's memory. And this, roughly, multiple transactions... As a result, you can pay for purchases several times without connecting, but then the application will request access to the network.

Android Pei - how to use

The process of using the application itself is very easy: you just need to bring the phone to the terminal and enter the pin code (for purchases up to 1,000 rubles, you do not need to enter it, the code will not be prompted for).

If a payment is made in an online store, you need to click on the corresponding icon (it will be highlighted there), and you will be redirected to the application to make a payment.

If there are several cards, then before paying you need to choose the right one. Otherwise, funds will be debited from the default card.

How to understand that payment in this way is possible?

Regardless of where you want to make a payment using this method (in a hypermarket or in an online store), you can find out whether it can be done or not by the image of the following button:

Those. if there is such an icon on the terminal or in the online store, then payment is possible.

Pros and cons

pros

Convenience... Plastic cards can now be left at home, they will not take up space in your wallet. And most people have devices running on the Android system. Besides, the phone can "hold" several cards at the same time.

Speed... Insignificantly, but with the help of a phone, payment will be made a little faster than using a plastic card. No need to waste time to insert the card and dial the code. It is enough to bring the phone to the payment terminal (up to 1,000 rubles - without entering a pin code).

Safety... As stated earlier, Google guarantees that your data will be protected. And the payment scheme itself is reliably implemented.

Phone... If you lose your device, you need to spend time to use the application (for this, now it is better to put a password on your phone). If these were plastic cards, the theft of funds would have occurred faster.

Minuses

Charging... If you do not calculate and the battery "runs out" before you pay, the only alternative will still remain only cards. And if there are no them, then you will not be able to pay for purchases, respectively. In other words, you are addicted to your phone as a device.

Prevalence... Because the technology is new to Russia, then it is not implemented everywhere. Some stores will not be able to accept Android Pay. But nevertheless, this problem is gradually being eliminated, and the number of outlets supporting the new type of payment is steadily growing.

Cash... In order to withdraw funds, you need to carry a card with you. Not all ATMs are equipped to read payments from Android Pay. The problem is temporary. I think that soon this opportunity will be available in all ATMs.

When paying up to 1,000 rubles, the pin code is not requested. Whether it's a plus or a minus, it's up to you.

(2 estimates, average: 5,00 out of 5)

Android Pay is a contactless payment service made using Android devices of the latest generations. In fact, Android Pay is the same payment instrument as a plastic card, only built into your mobile phone. And they will appear soon.

May 23, 2017 this service was officially launched in Russia. This caused a lot of excitement among smartphone holders. In our article we will talk about how to use the system, which banks support it, how to download and use Android Pay on your phone.

Which banks and cards support the system

In Russia, already from the beginning of the project, this project was supported immediately ten banks... Almost all of them provide a large list of cards that work with the new payment system.

Supports Android Pay on all cards MasterCard and VISA,but do not supportcard type MAESTRO and Visa ELECTRON:

  • Sberbank,
  • MTS Bank,
  • Raiffeisen Bank

But there are banks that support the entire list of cards they produce... These banks include:

  • Alfabank,
  • VTB 24,
  • tinkoff bank.

Some banks support all cards, except VISA:

  • Russian Standard Bank,
  • B&N Bank,
  • Rosselkhoz Bank.

Rocketbank's Mastercard cards have a cashback function (discounts on goods that are returned to the owner's account some time after the purchase). It is also a priority for other banks to work with refunds to the owners' accounts.

If your phone has Root access, then your phone will not be officially supported.

But on the Internet there are already articles that describe in detail how you can use the Android pay service on devices with superuser rights (open Root access). Of course, everything is done informally, at your own peril and risk. So it's worth considering whether it is worth the risk of using your wallet through a device that may be open to other users through Root.

If there are no Root rights, then first you need to make sure that your smartphone has support for such a service as NFC... You must have the correct software version installed.

Android Pay supports devices with Android 4.4 or KitKat and later. Owners of wearable devices will also be able to use Android Pay if the latter has Android Wear 2.0.

How to download and enable

In order to make your first purchase using Android Pay, you need to link a bank card that supports this service. A list of all cards and banks working with this service is indicated above. And only after that you can start working with the payment application itself.

Where can I download Android Pay? This can be done from the standard Google Play application, which is initially installed on any device. Downloading the app from other sources is strictly not recommended, as most likely, these will be fraudulent applications through which other people will gain access to your account.

After installing the application, you need to open it and follow the instructions exactly. When installing a payment service, you will need permissions to contacts, geolocation, identification data, device camera and some others, which will ensure the proper operation of Android Pay.

After the card has been added and verified by the service, you can make purchases using your phone. But you need to be prepared for the fact that an error appears on Google Play that A ndroid Pay is not supported on your device, if android version doesn't meet requirements.

Since the service has just appeared, it will work most correctly on more popular and well-known devices. Over time, it will be adapted to all suitable devices, the manufacturers of which want to install this payment system along with the general software package from Google.

Where and how to pay via Android Pay

The payment service works with both real and virtual purchases. You can pay for the purchase of programs and games, as well as pay for digital goods inside these applications.

In simple stores, you do not need to look for special devices through which payment for goods will be carried out, it is enough to use a regular terminal to pay using an Android device.

An interesting fact will be that with the help of the Android Pei system, you can already pay for trips to the metro. Payment for other types of transport is also considered in the future.

By the way, the Moscow Metro made a good present for those who will pay for travel through Androyd Pay: 50% discount from the fare. Thus, the happy owners of the payment system on their smartphone will pay only 20, but not 40 rubles.

System security

When paying, the virtual account number will be used, not the credit card number, therefore the payment through this payment system is confidential and your information remains safe.

Some Russian citizens have encountered difficulties in setting up the application. When registering, you need to enter a postal code, the priority of which is not by city, but by region. An error appears when entering the index for Moscow. To solve this problem, an index of the regional city is entered or Moscow is selected as a region. Google hasn't solved this problem yet.

Platform competition

Android Pay has been added to two well-known payment systems from Samsung and Apple. If you compare Android Pay with other payment systems, for example, Google devices have an advantage here. You do not need to have a fingerprint scanner on your phone to make payments. You can use a regular password and enter it when paying. This cannot be done on devices.

It can be concluded that this payment system is capable of competing with competitors, having sufficient support in banks and prospects for the development and adaptation of the technologies used.

A modern person who spends a lot of time in the digital world tries to acquire them with the release of new devices. He changes, with the exception of adherents of one firm, one model to another on average once a year. At the same time, his device from Apple may change to Android.

The Samsung brand is a huge part of the Android phone portfolio. Three possible payment systems per user appear at once. Hence the conclusion - you need to strive to create a cross-platform application that will help a person who has changed a device to stay with their old data and not perform various registration operations.

Obviously, a fierce struggle will begin in the android market between Samsung and Google, which will have to be sophisticated to make their system unique, and, accordingly, the best for users.

Android Pay in Russia, a lot of interesting things:

The mobile payment service Android Pay has finally appeared in Russia. It should be noted that he came to our country with a delay of almost six months compared to the rapidly gaining momentum "apple" service and its Korean counterpart.
According to the basic principles of operation, Android Pei practically does not differ from competitors. This contactless service also requires the phone to run Android 4.4 or higher, and also support NFC near-field communication.

Of the devices available on the market today, the list of supported devices is small. These are mainly the latest models of phones in the top and middle price range. Among them are Samsung Galaxy (A3, A5, A7, J5, J7, S7, S8), Xiaomi Mi5, LG (K6, G3s, G4s), Huawei Honor and Sony Xperia in the price range over 12 thousand rubles. Unfortunately, on popular low-cost phones like Samsung Galaxy J1, Asus ZenFone Go, Meizu, HighScreen, Dexp, Phillips. Over time, support will appear on cheaper devices, but the older models, of course, will not work.

The main difference between Android Pay and competing payment systems Apple Pay and Sansung Pay is that for the service to work, a smartphone does not need to have a fingerprint scanner, and you can go through authorization through a good old PIN code or a graphic password.

In addition, it works on all contactless payment terminals. No additional protocol support is required.
Well, one more significant plus - with the help of Android Pai, you can pay for purchases of applications and content on Google Play.

Which banks does Android Pay support

The Android Pay payment system in Russia was launched on May 23, 2017 and at the time of launch it works perfectly both with MasterCard cards and Visa, which is more familiar to Russia. The electronic payment system "Yandex.Money" is supported, as well as new cards of the "Mir" system should start working in the near future.
Currently 14 banks are supported:
- Sberbank
- Alfa Bank
- BinBank
- VTB 24
- Opening
- MTS-Bank
- Promsvyazbank
- Raiffeisenbank
- Rocketbank
- Rosselkhozbank
- Tinkoff
- Russian standard
- AK Bars
- Dot
In the near future, the list of contractors will expand significantly.

How to install Android Pay on your phone

The application installation procedure is simple and no different from other applications. We go to Google Play, find the program:

press the "Install" button and wait until the program is installed.

Then go to the phone settings and in the "WiFi and networks" section, select the "More" item.

Here you need to check the NFC box. Along with this, the Android Beam function is activated, which is responsible for data transmission.
That's it, now the application can be used.

Attention! You will not be able to use the Android Pei program if the bootloader is unlocked on your phone and root rights are obtained. The error "Android Pay is not supported on this device" will be displayed. It looks like this:

True, on the forums I met information that the restriction was bypassed, but I could not come across real examples.

Is it safe?

In fact, using Android Pay on your phone is much safer than Apple's and Samung's counterparts, although the protection is top-notch on them. When you bring your smartphone to the terminal, a special one-time key 16 characters long is transmitted over a wireless radio channel. This is a so-called token that is generated in the Google cloud and comes over an Internet connection. That is, they are not generated on the device itself.

You can, of course, use the service without an active connection to the global web, but then the phone will use the keys stored in its memory. Also, a phone number and information about which payment network is used - MasterCard, Visa or Mir is transmitted to the terminal. No data about the card itself is sent.

How to add a card

Launch the program and click on the "Add credit or debit card" button. Then you need to point the camera at your card and take a picture of it so that the application reads the data. Next, you will need to manually enter the CVC code (on the back of the card) and the owner's address. Next, you will need to go through a check at the bank and enter the code received via SMS.

You can add a card to Google Android Pay several times. In this case, you will need to specify the one that will be used by default.

How to use Android Pay to pay

In order to pay for purchases using a phone with a connected Android Pay service, you just need to unlock the phone and bring it to a terminal that supports contactless payment. Usually they are indicated by the following stickers:

Note: In modern supermarkets, large retail chains such as Magnit, Auchan, Perekrestok, Karusel and other network companies, most of the old terminals have already been replaced with modern ones that are able to carry out contactless payments. Including PayPass.

The Google payment system has another convenient function - online payment for purchases on the Internet through a web browser. That is, if you need to buy something, you press the button and voila - the payment is made! In the future, a similar button will be integrated into other applications. For example, now it is already in Yandex.Taxi, Uber, Wildberries.

It is possible to use Android Pai with a smart watch. But then again, they have to support NFC technology. For example, Samsung Gear S3, Huawei Watch 2, LG Wath Sport. The second requirement is that the operating system must be updated to Android Wear 2.0.

You will love it - if you can use it.

Google has finally launched its payment system, similar to the familiar Apple Pay. Both payment methods use NFC technology to operate a smartphone with a banking terminal and should make our life easier.

Is it so?

Installation: it's easy for someone, never for someone

The first thing I did useful on the morning of May 23rd was to install Android Pay. Since my ZTE Axon 7 has NFC and installed official firmware (despite buying a smartphone in China), there were no problems during installation and first launch.

Unlike many of my friends who use "gray" devices - especially often in the Xiaomi flight. A detailed experiment showed that the Android Pay application may not work in the following cases:

  • using unofficial firmware (including CyanogenMod);
  • using system modifications affecting the bootloader (patches);
  • using a modified bootloader (TWPR or similar);
  • unlocking the bootloader in the system settings (menu "For Developers") or in another way (including the official unlocking of Xiaomi);

  • installing an unofficial version of the operating system (modified "firmware from the seller");
  • the impossibility of determining the location in Russia (in MIUI and some other systems).

Android Pay security on your fingers

The app has checked if the screen lock is on. The information is picked up from the settings of the smartphone, there is no two-factor authentication at this moment. Therefore, if the payment was once made from a Google account, you will not need to enter anything - and the common problem with the address will go away by itself (I haven’t come across, honestly).

Unlock screen when paying bills up to 1000 rubles not required, just turn on the backlight. Amounts over 1000 rubles require authentication with a password, pattern, or fingerprint.

To write off funds, you will need an Internet key for the operation is created in the Google cloud storage. Notifications if there is a connection are instant - and the card can be blocked, canceled, or at least contact technical support.

UPD: The Internet is not required at the time of the operation - the keys are stored for up to 1 hour.

Cards and accounts: everything is possible

The next step towards conquering contactless payments with an Android smartphone was the addition of a card. The list of banks working with Google in this direction is still small, although sufficient for most users. Mir cards are not yet supported, the application allows you to add only Visa or Mastercard with CVV / CVC code.

The cards of Alfa-Bank, Sberbank, Rocket and Tinkoff (the latter with a zero balance) were attached without any problems. B&N Bank's Visa did not get attached.

UPD: According to the official representatives of B&N Bank, their Mastercard is currently working with the application.

There are 3 ways to add:

  1. from your Google account, if the corresponding data was saved in it - additional confirmation with the card code will be required;
  2. using a scanner - you need to point it to the card number, then the application will do everything on its own;
  3. manually by entering the card number and specifying the issuing bank.

When adding, you will need to confirm the operation by entering the verification code from SMS (do not forget about the corresponding service). After that, the issuer will force you to read the terms of the card issue.

Yes, you heard right - by linking the card to Android Pay, we are actually issuing an additional virtual card with the corresponding legal conditions!

If you dig into the document, it turns out that such a payment method is as secure as similar plastic means of payment - and given Google's security system, it is probably even better.

Bonuses and partners: how the app will replace the wallet

The app contains a wide list of Google partner stores. But now, for all stores from the list, you can add loyalty program cards that you can use right at the checkout. With a proviso:

Bonus and gift cards can only be added if they have a barcode on them.

Therefore, my old card "Killfish" remained offline, but "Gulliver", "Vita" and "KB" are now only in the smartphone.

Later Android Pay can be use for in-app purchases - after the developers of these apps implement a button to pay. In the meantime, none of the announced Russian stores so far offers such a service.

Smartphone instead of a map in a small town

Lenta was the first of the stores to test its functionality. Surprisingly, the seller at the checkout tried to help with payment. The line froze in anticipation.

The experiment failed: neither launching the application, nor direct contact of the smartphone with the terminal, nor attempts to move the Axon over it were successful. Several more attempts at partner stores also failed.

And then I turned off the unlocked bootloader in the settings. And away we go.

A further walk through his native Ulyanovsk showed that society is already accustomed to paying with a smartphone. Nobody interferes, in case of malfunctions or malfunctions - they try to help.

Fortunately, the latter practically does not happen due to the buyer's fault. In the algorithm “turned on NFC, put the smartphone to the terminal for a few seconds, waited for a payment message”, it is impossible to be mistaken.
If there is an SMS service of the issuing bank, a standard text message will come - and, moreover, without comments about using the card via Android Pay.

Problems can only be in the absence of communication - and such cases, through their own fault, should be avoided for now. Google warns that the payment can go through in a few minutes. What to do in practice in the event that you had to pay in cash and the money was debited from the card is not yet very clear (unlike cards).

You can actually pay for your purchase using Android Pay in any payment terminal with NFC support (supporting wireless payment) and corresponding markings on the body or screen:

And this does not depend on the store, seller, product or the amount of the check. Whether it's a large supermarket or a tiny farm store: I was able to pay with my smartphone at all the wireless card-enabled terminals I met in 3 days.

Tip: it is better to experiment for the first time in large partner stores in order to avoid the confusion with setting up the application.

There is no automatic use of loyalty cards when paying. First, you need to scan the image of the card on the smartphone screen or touch the appropriate terminal - and only then pay using the banking machine.

Some technical points

Keep in mind that Android Pay is not a built-in feature like Samsung Pay or Apple Pay. This is a separate application that must be downloaded and installed from the Play Market.

After installation, it constantly hangs in the background as a system process. However, taking up an insignificant amount of RAM. And the total power consumption with NFC is completely invisible.

It is worth remembering that not every smartphone will work. Looking for:

  1. operating system Android 4.4 and older;
  2. nFC module for contactless communication;
  3. support for technology card emulation (HCE).

Otherwise, the installation will fail. And if the presence of a root or a modified system for Android Pay can be hidden, the absence of one of the above requirements will invariably lead to failure. Despite the fact that these conditions are indicated on each fence, many complaints about the operation of the service are associated with these violations.

Android Pay can be used on smartwatches. At least officially. But this will require Lg watch sport and Huawei Watch 2as the app only installs on Android Wear 2.0 and requires an NFC module. Only the two specified models meet these conditions.
