Products
The first product from ESET was the NOD antivirus program for computers running MS-DOS. NOD32 1.0 for Microsoft Windows was released in 1998, version 2.0 appeared in 2003. The latest version in the 2.x branch is 2.70.39, which was released in November 2006 and adds support for Windows Vista. In January 2010, ESET announced that it would no longer be on sale and could not download NOD32 2.x after February 2010, and that it would no longer support and update signatures after February 2012.
In November 2007, a new version of the antivirus program was released with a new name - NOD32 Antivirus 3.0. The company also announced Smart Security, a new product that combines NOD32 Antivirus with firewall and antispam features.
In March 2009 ESET introduced NOD32 Antivirus and Smart Security 4.0.
In March 2010 ESET introduced NOD32 Antivirus and Smart Security 4.2.

Peter Pashko and Miroslav Trnka, two young programmers from Bratislava, wrote in 1987 a small program to neutralize one of the first computer viruses they found, which they called "Vienna". The first virus was followed by new ones, which prompted the idea of creating a universal program to detect and neutralize emerging threats.
In 1992, Peter, Miroslav and Rudolf Gruby, who joined them, officially registered the ESET company, the headquarters of which was opened in Bratislava (Czechoslovakia, now Slovakia). Later, in 1999, a division of the company was opened in San Diego, USA. ESET's name (Essential Security against Evolving Threats) reflects the use of proactive methods to identify unknown network threats. ESET was the first company to use this technology, calling it ThreatSense ™, which is based on a block of advanced heuristics.
NOD is short for Nemocnica na Okraji Disku (Hospital on the Outskirts of the Disk). The name is almost entirely borrowed from the popular Czech TV series Hospital on the Outskirts of the City.
Activity of the company
The first product released by the company was the NOD antivirus system for MS-DOS.
In 1998, version 1.0 of the new antivirus system was released for the Windows operating system, called NOD32, the numbers in the name reflected the translation of the program code to a 32-bit basis. This name remains to this day, despite the fact that the software also supports 64-bit systems.
In 2002, ESET took part in its own independent exhibition at CeBIT in Hannover, Germany for the first time.
In 2003, a new version, NOD32 2.0, was released, which was released, with modifications, until the end of 2006, and support for which was discontinued only in 2012.
In 2007, ESET introduced a new version of its antivirus, changing its name, NOD32 Antivirus 3.0, as well as a new product, NOD32 Smart Security which supplements the antivirus with firewall and antispam functions.
In 2009, a new version of these products was presented - 4.0.
In 2010, the current version was updated to version 4.2, and new solutions were presented: for Mac OS X - ESET Cybersecurity, and later - for mobile devices running Windows and Symbian under the name ESET Mobile Security.
In 2011, new versions of Antivirus and Smart Security were released - 5.0.
In 2012 - a new update of versions to 6.0, with the Anti-Theft module included in Smart Security. Thanks to a collaboration with Google, ESET Mobile Security for Android has been released.

Today, ESET produces solutions for both home use and corporate clients. A variety of platforms are supported: Windows, Linux, BSD, Solaris, MAC OS, Android. In 2013, a new version of software products was released - 7.0.
