Design, construction

When I first took this smartphone in my hands, I thought: “Damn it, what a beautiful smartphone. He will clearly stand out among others. " A huge, not just large, but a huge 6-inch display immediately catches your eye. The first impression did not deceive me with tactile sensations.

Do you know what surprised you? Plastic. This matte plastic fits perfectly into my palm. You involuntarily pay attention to its rounded corners, they are edged with an aluminum insert stretched along the contour from 3 sides. On the left is the volume swing button. On the top right is the button to turn off the device, and below you can find the button to turn on the camera.

As I said before, there is a huge 6-inch display on the front side.

Above the display we see the proximity and sacredness sensor, the speaker in the middle, and the front camera on the left. All elements look ergonomic, nothing more.

Looking down, under the display you can find 3 touch keys - these are "Properties", "Home" and "Back".

Appreciating the work of the designers of this device, I admire the rounded front panel, which smoothly goes into the back of the smartphone case, and separate their inputs for the microUSB cable, which is recessed into the case.

Moving on to the back of the smartphone, I want to note that the back cover is removable. The battery can be reached without any problems. At the bottom are the speaker holes. The case lid snaps off easily, although it sits firmly. The lid does not luvtit. Looking up, I found a camera window and a flash.

The headset jack is located on the top, between the front and back sides. The factory headset produces a fairly clear and high-quality sound. Overall, most users should like it, but if you prefer other headphones then no problem. The X6 has a 3.5mm jack.

The device weighs just over 200 grams with the battery and flip case! This is not a lot, considering the dimensions of the smartphone (83.2x166x7.6 mm).

Technical part

The MTK6582 platform is used, a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor, a Mali 400 adapter, 1 GB of RAM, the back of the device heats up during games, in normal mode this is not very noticeable - although some programs make the device warmer. The operating system is Android 4.2.2, from the add-ons - redrawn icons of the player and some other programs, its own wallpapers, menus on the locked screen and unlocking animation, there are a number of other minor changes. Turbo X6 Z Star is equipped with a pretty good stock of applications, there is also its own keyboard, applications for working with documents, a flashlight and even a preinstalled Navitel.

Since I really wanted to know how many "parrots" the X6 will show in my favorite Antutu test, I immediately launched it. After a short wait, the smartphone showed 15183 parrots.

Wireless interfaces

Everything with him: Bluetooth 4, Wi-Fi with support for the IEEE 802.11 b / g / n protocol.

On the back there is an NFC area, for Turbo this is a new toy that allows you to work with other devices using NFC. It was interesting when I held the X6 up to the Tablet Z and transferred the image with ease.

One of the advantages is support for 3G, which works great with all mobile operators.

After you launch your smartphone for the first time, you have about 5 GB available and 8 available. Naturally, the device works great with a 32GB memory card.

Things are a little worse here than with the battery. The 8 megapixel camera shoots with blue, the video does not float a lot when the camera moves. In general, there are many modes to help you get the best shot. The front camera in 2 megapixels transmits not a bad image. It is very convenient to use Skype.

Here are some photos taken in different modes:

Sample video:

YouTube: please provide the correct link

The diagonal of the display is 6 inches. This is a huge Ips matrix, with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels and excellent viewing angles. Looking through various photographs downloaded from the Internet, I was very surprised by the color rendition. The colors are juicy and bright. The image can be seen clearly in the sun, the display does not glare.

Watching movies and playing games on the X6 is very enjoyable. Thanks to the large display, the smartphone turns into an entertainment center.

The set comes with 2 batteries with a capacity of 2.4 A / h. The smartphone has a good appetite, although the battery is enough to play, watch movies and surf the Internet.

I did a little battery life test and this is what happened:
at 9 am the smartphone was 100% charged. For the whole day I watched a video for about 2 hours, played the game for about an hour, naturally called and, from time to time, used the Internet. The backlight mode was automatic. As a result, it turned out that by 22.00 I had 15% of the battery charge left. This was enough to read a book and put the smartphone on charge at midnight.

Brief summary

It's time to take stock. I'll start with the pros:

1. Design and equipment;

2. Display;

3. Performance.

Of course, there are fewer cons. The main one is not a fully Russified firmware. Hope the developers fix these issues. I will also add that the camera is a C grade. Blue images don't inspire me.

Screen type: IPS (In Plane Switching) is a high-quality liquid crystal matrix, which was created to eliminate the main disadvantages of TN technology matrices. The IPS-matrix in the entire spectrum most adequately reproduces colors at different angles of view, with the exception of some positions and colors. TN-matrix has, as it were, a better response than IPS, but not always. For example, the IPS-matrix behaves better in transitions from gray to gray, this matrix is still resistant to pressure. Touching a TN or VA matrix leads to "excitement" or a certain reaction on the screen. The IPS-matrix has no such effect. In addition, ophthalmologists confirm that the IPS-matrix is the most comfortable for the eyes. In this way, the IPS-matrix brings a bright and clear picture regardless of viewing angles, better for working on the Internet, watching movies. But the most important thing is for image processing and photo viewing. LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) - Liquid crystal displays. The very first displays used in mobile devices, and not only in telephones. Their main feature is that they have very low power consumption due to the impossibility of displaying a color image. They do not emit light and therefore phones are upgraded with backlight lamps. Some phones had several different backlight colors based on the presence of different LEDs around the display's perimeter. This extraordinary solution was used, for example, in the Ericsson A3618 phone. Pixels are clearly visible on this type of display, and such displays cannot boast of a high resolution. In order to prolong the life of such displays, they were made inverted, i.e. text and symbols were not displayed as filled pixels, but, on the contrary, inactive against the background of filled ones. This resulted in light text on a dark background. Currently, this type of display is used in the cheapest budget models (Nokia 1112) and as an external one in some clamshell phones (Samsung D830).

TFT (Thin Film Transistor) - Liquid crystal displays based on active matrix thin film transistors. There are three transistors for each pixel, corresponding to three colors (RGB - red, green, blue). At the moment, these are the most common displays and have a number of advantages over other displays. They are characterized by the fastest response time and rapid development - constantly growing resolution and number of colors. These displays are most common in mid-range phones and above. Working resolutions for them: 128x160, 132x176, 176x208, 176x220, 240x320 and others, less common. Examples: Nokia N73 (240x320, 262 thousand colors), Sony Ericsson K750i (176x220, 262 thousand colors), Samsung D900 (240x320, 262 thousand colors). TFTs are rarely used as external displays for clamshells.

CSTN (Color Super Twisted Nematic) - Passive matrix color liquid crystal displays. Each pixel of such a display consists of three combined pixels, which correspond to three colors (RGB). Some time ago, almost all phones with color displays were based on exactly this type. And now the lot of such displays is budget models. The main disadvantage of such displays is their slowness. The undoubted advantage of such displays is their cost, which is much lower than TFT. Based on simple logic, it can be assumed that in the future TFT will oust this type of displays from the market of mobile devices. The color evolution of such displays is quite extensive: from 16 to 65536 colors. Examples: Motorola V177 (128x160, 65 thousand colors), Sony Ericsson J100i (96x64, 65 thousand colors), Nokia 2310 (96x68, 65 thousand colors).

UFB (Ultra Fine and Bright) - Liquid crystal displays with increased brightness and contrast on a passive matrix. We can say that this is an intermediate option between CSTN and TFT. This type of display boasts lower power consumption compared to TFT. For the most part, such displays were used by Samsung in mid-range phones. This type of display is not widely used. Examples: Samsung C100 / 110 (128x128, 65 thousand colors).

TN is one type of TFT display matrix. Roughly speaking, TN is the simplest and cheapest TFT matrix. The viewing angles are the narrowest.

I have been using a smartphone for a month, before I did not come across such devices on sale, before that I used a Samsung tablet with a 7 "screen in addition to a regular phone, I managed to combine them in this device. Now I use only it and do not plan to give it up, it suits me completely.

Turbo X6 B caught my eye in January 2014 in the CSN store, there were almost no reviews about it yet, the price was 9990 rubles, the price was fine, I bought it because of a large screen with a good resolution, a powerful battery (3300 mAh and a charger in 1 , 5 A), good performance (at the level of Galaxy S3), complete set (spare battery, silicone bumper and Samsung Flip Cover with a window).

In comparison with the tablet, I like the fact that you can safely hold it in one hand without fear of dropping it. I can easily use it in public transport as a "time killer", without straining to keep it safe, because I'm not afraid to drop it. I like the battery life (7-8 hours of video), here it simply has no equal, and there is also a spare battery! Any games run great, including Asphalt 8 at maximum settings, a 4 GB video file can be launched freely from anywhere, applications can be easily installed on a memory card, and they work well. The second SIM card allows you to save costs on the Internet and communication and get rid of a separate phone, by the way, how the phone works perfectly, the interlocutor is heard well, me too, the reception is confident.

Of its weaknesses, I will note the camera, it does not live up to expectations, the 3.2 megapixel tablet camera gives almost the best quality pictures, and even a smaller volume, the flash is also weak. The GPS receiver works worse than that of the tablet, in which the satellites were caught in a matter of seconds, here you have to wait (or am I already finding fault?). The film, glued to the screen from the factory, of poor quality, was instantly scratched and pasted with bubbles, it's good that all this is not visible when the screen is on. I also don't like the fact that the power and volume buttons are opposite each other on different sides of the device, you want to press one, but you press both. The headset jack is too deep, the case prevents you from plugging in the plug, so any headphones will not work, check them when buying. And you will have to buy, because not everyone will be satisfied with the family. In the dark, the screen is too bright, but this can be treated by installing the free "screen filter" program, there are many of them on the market, to choose from.

It would be nice to somehow provide for the possibility of charging the battery separately from the phone, through an adapter, so as to remove the back cover less often. It would be nice to attach an OTG cable, it costs 100 rubles, I had to order it separately from the Chinese, this would increase the functionality of the device.

I often use my smartphone for calls, reading books, games, the Internet, music, taking pictures, navigation, less often for taking and watching videos and communicating through special applications such as Skype, as well as typing, scanning and translating texts, and also used as a level or plumb line ! I have never used it as a dictaphone and video recorder yet.

It's still too short a time to talk about the reliability of a smartphone, but the 2-year warranty is reassuring and easy to use. So far, no troubles have happened. The level of glitches does not exceed that to which I am used to using a tablet that is far from the worst, judging by the reviews, so far everything has been treated with a reboot, I do not resort to it very often, not every day. Sometimes programs hung (the reaction to pressing the sensor disappeared). Now an inadequate actuation of proximity or light sensors has appeared (you move your hand, and the desktops move on the screen), I have not tried to treat it, it does not interfere much, I'll see what happens next.

In any case, this device is much more convenient than a tablet due to its compactness, and I'm used to carrying a tablet with me and without it I'm already uncomfortable, as without hands.

In general, my expectations from this "plafond" were fully justified, and when reviews from other owners appeared, which were also quite good, it became clear that the developers managed to create a device that was completely balanced in its consumer properties, which well combined the advantages of a tablet and a phone, so I I recommend it to anyone who is just thinking about purchasing such a giant smartphone.

It's hard to find something original in the current variety of smartphones. Not so long ago, a smartphone from the Russian manufacturer Turbopad came to our editorial office. Turbopad has been producing smartphones and tablets since 2012 and during this time 13 smartphones and more than 20 tablets have been produced. Today we will find out what a smartphone is. Turbopad Turbo X6 Z Star.

Appearance

The Turbo X6 Z Star smartphone has a classic rectangular shape, in which there is an individual feature of performance or, in other words, a highlight. The body of the device is made entirely of plastic, and there are metal inserts on the side faces. It somehow resembles the iPhones of the 5th series quite a bit. It is worth noting that the top corners are rounded in the same style.

On the front, under the large display, there are three standard smartphone control buttons, and above the display is the front camera and speaker.

There is a volume rocker on the left side edge.

On the right - the buttons for turning on and activating the camera.

Despite the large dimensions of the device, the volume rocker and the power button are located quite conveniently, but this cannot be said about the camera activation key. Even if you hold the device with several fingers, it is rather difficult to talk about convenience.

On the top side there is a 3.5 mm headset jack.

And if you look at the bottom edge, you can find an inconspicuous microUSB slot.

The main camera is located at the top of the back side. It is worth noting that the camera has a small metal rounded frame that protects the lens from scratches. There is a flash to the right of the camera.

Just below the logo, and at the bottom - the speaker.

Screen

As mentioned earlier, the Turbo X6 Z Star is equipped with a 6-inch display with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels and an IPS matrix and an aspect ratio of 16: 9. By today's standards, this is a good result, but far from the best. Considering the cost of the device, up to 10 thousand rubles, it is not very bad.

The smartphone has no problems with brightness and color reproduction, it is even noticeable in bright daylight. Even at high viewing angles, not only the picture is clearly visible, but also the text is readable.

Operating system

Turbo X6 Z Star runs on Android 4.2.2 with a customized skin. In our opinion, these changes to the shell look pretty much nicer than the standard dark "skin". Light colors are clearly lighter. But there are also negative aspects here.

The functionality is almost no different from the original operating system, the menu order and some arrangement of blocks have been partially changed.

All customized skins have a big drawback - manufacturers do not often care about releasing updates for the OS. Considering that brands of the premium segment sooner or later release updated firmware, approximately half a year later. And the rest of the market, unfortunately, postpones this important moment to the last plan.

Another small drawback of Android 4.2 is that the original applications are also installed under this version. For example, the Play Market, in order to work correctly with other applications, it will need to be updated to a newer version.

In addition to the standard list of software, the manufacturer has taken care of additional applications. The list includes: Navitel, MoboPlayer, Documents To Go, A.1.typekeyboard and others.

Performance and battery life

The device from TurboPad is equipped with a quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor with a frequency of 1300 MHz, powered by a MediaTek MT6582 chip. All standard features are built into this platform: work in GSM, WCDMA networks, adapters Bluetooth 4.0 + HS and Wi-Fi 802.11b / g / n, GPS receiver.

MediaTek MT6582 supports displays with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, cameras with a matrix resolution of up to 13 megapixels, as well as LPDDR2 / LPDDR3 RAM with a frequency of up to 533 MHz and iNAND and eMMC (moviNAND) memory chips.

Also, our device has 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of hard disk space, of which 5.6 GB are available for free use. The rest is occupied by the OS and pre-installed applications.

Synthetic tests:

AnTuTu Benchmark

AnTuTu 3D Rating

Vellamo

As mentioned earlier, the device comes with two 2300 mAh lithium batteries. With active use, one battery lasts from 5 hours to a day. The minimum value is the operation of the smartphone with active Wi-Fi and with constant use of applications. With moderate smartphone use, one battery will last up to two days. Do not forget that the bundle also contains an additional battery, thanks to which the life of the smartphone can be doubled.

The battery test results can be found below.

Camera

The smartphone has a camera with an 8 megapixel matrix. This is not to say that the photos are excellent, but they cannot be classified as bad either. Let's just say that the photo quality is above average, like many smartphones of a similar type. The functionality for shooting is standard, there are no super interesting features, but the standard ones are more than enough.

  • Daylight, no zoom

  • With maximum zoom

Output

As a result, we can say that we received a high-quality smartphone. It has no unique camera, no unique firmware, and no superb battery. This is a high-quality smartphone with standard functionality. On the smartphone market, one can rarely find a device from domestic manufacturers, and in this case, we can safely say that they have not lost their face. Stylish design and good performance. For a relatively young player in the smartphone market, this model is a good indicator.

Undoubtedly, it is worth noting as a unique plus - the presence of a second battery in the kit. If you are going somewhere on a long journey, or have forgotten the charger, then the second battery can save you.

Advantages:

  • Good screen
  • Good build quality
  • Second battery included
  • The presence of a cover and film for the screen

Disadvantages:

  • Lack of firmware update
  • OS: Android 4.2.2
  • Processor: Quad-core ARM Cortex A7, 1500 MHz
  • Memory: 2 GB RAM, ROM 16 GB
  • Display: IPS 6 ", resolution 1920 x 1080, 16: 9
  • Camera: 13MP rear and 8MP front
  • Working time: 6-7 hours in video viewing mode
  • Communication: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, GPS + AGPS
  • Size: 83.2 x 166 x 7.6mm, 180g
  • Support for memory cards: micro SD up to 32 GB
  • Battery: Comes with two batteries (2300mAh each)

Appearance

The smartphone has an up-to-date and clean design that will satisfy even the most fastidious fans of mobile technology. The slim body and flat metal bezels around the edges give the smartphone an elegant yet modern look. Despite the rather impressive size, Turbo X6 Z is surprisingly comfortable in the hand, the ergonomics of the smartphone does not cause any complaints.

You don't have to reach with your thumb to the side off button - it is located to the right and slightly below the standard location for more convenient use. Unlike other well-known models, all buttons under the display are touch-sensitive. The volume rocker, located to the left of the screen, fits neatly under the index finger. Therefore, using the Turbo X6 Z smartphone is easy even with one hand.

Separately, I would like to note that the package immediately includes a good-quality folio case, which provides the smartphone with additional protection, and most importantly, this case interacts with the phone's screen. Many flip cases cover the screen completely and even for the simplest actions (for example, to see the time) you have to open the case. Here, the cover provides quick access to phone functions thanks to the transparent "window" - a very comfortable feature that you quickly get used to, like everything good.

The speaker of the smartphone is located on the back panel at the very bottom, and it is quite quiet, so it is recommended to use the vibrating alert in noisy places, otherwise you may simply not hear incoming calls.

Screen and filling

By far the greatest strength of a smartphone is its screen. Turbo X6 Z has an IPS-OGS display that makes the colors on the screen more saturated and vivid. In addition, with the help of OGS technology, you can look at the smartphone screen from absolutely any angle, while it will only slightly lighten, leaving the colors almost as rich and bright. Watching Full HD videos in 16: 9 format at 1920 x 1080 resolution is a pleasure!

Now let's take a look “under the hood” of our device and find out what it is equipped with. Turbo X6 Z runs on a quad-core ARM Cortex A7 with a frequency of 1500 MHz, an excellent picture is provided by the PowerVR SGX 544 graphics accelerator. GB, or even 32 GB if you will additionally use microSD cards.

The NFC chip integrated into the back cover allows you to read any information from travel tickets, credit cards and other media that support NFC technology. Attaching to the back of the Turbo X6 Z, for example, a metropolitan subway pass, you instantly know how many trips you have left, at which stations the ticket was used and its expiration date.

And, of course, Turbo X6 Z has a GPS module, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, light and distance sensors, an accelerometer, and gesture control - each gesture can be assigned to launch certain applications and functions. The cameras require a separate mention - the front camera is 8 megapixels and the rear one is 13 megapixels with a built-in flash - which give quite high-quality and pleasant-looking pictures, coping well even with cloudy weather and dark hours of the day.

Software and testing

Turbo X6 Z runs on the Android 4.2.2 operating system, and it actually "flies" on this smartphone, without any slowdowns and lags. Unless you may feel some discomfort when launching the most resource-intensive games, but this applies only to certain points, while the overall impression does not deteriorate at all.

A set of very handy widgets like a panel for turning on Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, data synchronization and backlighting provides additional comfort.

The pre-installed keyboard looks much more entertaining than the stock one, plus it has an additional row of numbers above the main QWERTY block, which speeds up typing many times over.

The results of the device in the most popular synthetic tests are shown in the screenshots below.
