The Elder Scrolls Oblivion won't launch, won't work, won't install. Known Issues and Solutions Oblivion Gold Edition Crashes

If you encounter The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion slow down, crashes, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion won't start, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion won't install, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion doesn't have controls, no sound, pop-ups errors, saves not working in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion – we offer you the most common ways to solve these problems.

First, check if your PC meets the minimum system requirements:

  • OS: Windows XP
  • Processor: 2 GHz
  • Memory: 512 MB
  • Video: Direct3D-compatible video card with 128 MB of memory
  • HDD: 4.6 GB free space

Be sure to update your video card drivers and other software

Before you remember the worst words and express them towards the developers, do not forget to go to the official website of the manufacturer of your video card and download the latest drivers. Often, specially optimized drivers are prepared for the release of games. You can also try installing a later version of the drivers if the problem is not solved by installing the current version.

It is important to remember that you should only download the final versions of video cards - try not to use beta versions, as they may have a large number of bugs not found and not fixed.

Do not forget that games often require the latest version of DirectX to be installed, which can always be downloaded from the official Microsoft website.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion won't launch

Many problems with launching games happen due to incorrect installation. Check if there were any errors during the installation, try to uninstall the game and run the installer again, after disabling the antivirus - often the files necessary for the game to work are deleted by mistake. It is also important to remember that the path to the folder with the installed game should not contain Cyrillic characters - use only Latin letters and numbers for directory names.

It still does not hurt to check if there is enough space on the HDD for installation. You can try to run the game as Administrator in compatibility mode with different versions of Windows.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion slows down. Low FPS. Logs. Friezes. hangs up

First - install the latest drivers for the video card, from this FPS in the game can rise significantly. Also check the computer's load in the task manager (opened by pressing CTRL + SHIFT + ESCAPE). If, before starting the game, you see that some process is consuming too many resources, turn off its program or simply end this process from the task manager.

Next, go to the graphics settings in the game. First of all, turn off anti-aliasing and try lowering the settings responsible for post-processing. Many of them consume a lot of resources and disabling them will significantly increase performance without greatly affecting the quality of the picture.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion crashes to desktop

If The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion often crashes to your desktop, try lowering the graphics quality to start solving the problem. It is possible that your computer simply does not have enough performance and the game cannot work correctly. It is also worth checking for updates - most modern games have a system for automatically installing new patches. Check if this option is disabled in the settings.

Black screen in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

More often than not, the problem with the black screen is an issue with the GPU. Check if your graphics card meets the minimum requirements and install the latest drivers. Sometimes a black screen is the result of insufficient CPU performance.

If everything is fine with the hardware, and it meets the minimum requirements, try switching to another window (ALT + TAB), and then return to the game window.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is not installed. Installation stuck

First of all, check if you have enough HDD space for installation. Remember that the setup program requires the advertised amount of space plus 1-2 gigabytes of free space on the system drive to run correctly. In general, remember the rule - the system drive should always have at least 2 gigabytes of free space for temporary files. Otherwise, both games and programs may not work correctly or refuse to start at all.

Installation problems can also occur due to lack of Internet connection or its unstable operation. Also, do not forget to suspend the antivirus while installing the game - sometimes it interferes with the correct copying of files or deletes them by mistake, considering them viruses.

Saves not working in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

By analogy with the previous solution, check the availability of free space on the HDD - both on the one where the game is installed and on the system drive. Often save files are stored in a folder of documents, which is located separately from the game itself.

Controls not working in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Sometimes the controls in the game do not work due to the simultaneous connection of several input devices. Try disabling the gamepad, or if for some reason you have two keyboards or mice connected, leave only one pair of devices. If the gamepad does not work for you, then remember that only controllers that are defined as Xbox joysticks officially support games. If your controller is defined differently, try using programs that emulate Xbox joysticks (for example, x360ce).

Sound not working in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Check if the sound works in other programs. After that, check if the sound is turned off in the settings of the game itself and if the sound playback device is selected there, to which your speakers or headset are connected. Next, while the game is running, open the mixer and check if the sound is muted there.

If you are using an external sound card, check for new drivers on the manufacturer's website.

Known Issues and Solutions

Installation problems
If you've uninstalled and reinstalled Oblivion multiple times, some systems may throw an error the next time you try to uninstall Oblivion. To fix this, insert the Oblivion disc and run the setup.exe program. This action will fix the error and you will be able to uninstall and reinstall the game.

Saved games
Your saved games are located in My Documents\My Games\Oblivion (or \My Documents\My Games\Oblivion).

Before installing the game
Before installing Oblivion, please make sure your computer meets the system requirements for the game.

We also recommend that you make preparations by running a disk check (ScanDisk) and a defragmenter (Disk Defragmenter) prior to installation. These utilities are part of the Windows® operating system and can find and fix disc problems that cause problems with installation and/or the game itself.

To run these programs and optimize your hard drive:

  1. Open "My Computer".
  2. Right-click on the drive icon where you plan to install the game (usually C:).
  3. Click on "Properties"
  4. Select the "Service" tab.
  5. Click "Run Check" to run Scandisk.
  6. When Scandisk is finished, repeat steps 1-3 and click on "Run Defragmenter" to launch Disk Defragmenter.

    Please note that defragmentation can take a long time. It is better to start it in the evening and leave it to work at night.

A.T.I. Crossfire
Game performance on systems using ATI Crossfire will be degraded until ATI releases updated drivers that support Oblivion.

Error messages when launching Oblivion:

They appear as messages about dlls not found, like "d3dx9_27.dll not found."

To fix the error, open the Oblivion DVD and find the DXREDIST folder. Open it and run DXSETUP.exe. You will install the version of DirectX required for Oblivion to work.

Inability to create new saved games
If you press the Tab key while entering your character's name during character creation, there may be a problem when the game tries to write the save to the appropriate folder. It occurs because the character name is included in the name of the save file in Windows. This usually happens when you try to switch to another program with Alt-Tab while typing a name. If this happens, then autosaves and quicksaves will function correctly, but saves via the menu will not work. The problem can be solved by renaming the hero, this opportunity will be provided just before the exit from the prison at the end of the character generation process.

The following will be helpful if the character creation process has been completed:

The player name can be changed using the console by pressing the ` (tilde) key and typing the following: player.SetActorFullName "Player Name" (where Player Name = character name). Press RETURN and exit the console window by pressing tilde again.

It is also possible to save games using the console by pressing ` (tilde) and typing the following: save filename (where filename = the name of the save file you choose). Press RETURN and exit the console window by pressing tilde again.

Input problems
Keyboard input problems can be the result of peripheral control devices. Editing Oblivion.ini may fix the problem. The Oblivion.ini file is located in the My Documents\My Games\Oblivion folder. In the section, change the "bUse Joystick=1" setting to "bUse Joystick=0" or simply disable the peripherals. Make sure you save your changes. Please note that changes to the Oblivion.ini file will not be saved if the game is running at the time the changes are made.

Frequent "crashes" of the game due to an old system file
For some users, the game may crash due to an old system file. They may be due to the "mpeg2dmx.ax" file. Just rename it to "mpeg2dmx.ax.old" to fix the issue.

Frequent "crashes" of the game when an HP printer is connected
The program that comes with the HP printer may cause the game to crash. Before launching Oblivion: Press Ctr-Alt-Del to bring up the task manager. Go to the Processes tab. Right-click on any process that begins with the letters "HP" and select "End". After that, you can start Oblivion. Note: The computer will need to be restarted to be able to use the printer again.

"FF" icons in the system tray
Some players have reported "FF" icons appearing in the system tray during or after playing Oblivion. These are icons from a separate video/audio decoder you installed called "FFDShow." This program handles Oblivion sound files, which some users have reported slowing down the game and leaving tray icons behind. Remove them by simply hovering over them after the game is over. Removing FFDShow may fix this, but it is NOT required. You can follow the steps below to stop FFDShow from processing audio for Oblivion.

Instructions for disabling FFDShow for Oblivion without completely uninstalling it:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click "All Programs" (or just "Programs", depending on the Windows setup scheme)
  3. Go to the ffdshow folder.
  4. Click "Audio decoder configuration."
  5. On the left panel, click on "Info & debug." This is the second line on the list.
  6. In the right panel, closer to the bottom, find the line with the checkbox "Don" t use ffdshow in: "
  7. Check the box and in the text box below it (it's highlighted when you check this box), add "oblivion.exe" (don't use quotes). If there are already entries in the field, type a semicolon (;) after them, followed by oblivion.exe. DO NOT use spaces as ffdshow treats them as part of the filename. The correct entry is "explorer.exe;oblivion.exe" (without quotes).
  8. Finally, click "Ok" and run Oblivion.

Working with a gamepad

While the PC version of Oblivion is best suited for keyboard and mouse control, you can play using gamepads from various manufacturers. Due to their differences, you may need to make some changes to the Oblivion.ini file located in My Documents\My Games\Oblivion. The following are settings that can be changed to make an Xbox 360 controller attached to a PC work better with Oblivion. However, it should be noted that since the PC version of the game is optimized for keyboard and mouse play, the game experience will NOT be the same as when using the 360 controller for the Xbox 360 version of the game. These settings can also be applied to other gamepads, but the values given will have to be changed again. Finally, the button assignment must be set in the game itself in the "Settings-Controls" section, called from the main menu, however, DO NOT change the movement settings (Forward, Back, Left, Right), as this will overwrite the changes made to the Oblivion.ini file.

These are the default Oblivion.ini values:

iJoystickMoveFrontBack=2
iJoystickMoveLeftRight=1
fJoystickMoveFBMult=1.0000
fJoystickMoveLRMult=1.0000
iJoystickLookUpDown=6
iJoystickLookLeftRight=3
fJoystickLookUDMult=0.0020
fJoystickLookLRMult=0.0020

Modify them in such a way as to improve the functionality of the 360 controller attached to the PC.
;X = 1, Y = 2, Z = 3, XRot = 4, YRot = 5, ZRot = 6
iJoystickMoveFrontBack=2
iJoystickMoveLeftRight=1
fJoystickMoveFBMult=2.0000
fJoystickMoveLRMult=2.0000
iJoystickLookUpDown=5
iJoystickLookLeftRight=4
fJoystickLookUDMult=0.7500
fJoystickLookLRMult=0.7500

Make sure you save your changes. Please note that changes to the Oblivion.ini file will not be saved if the game is running at the time the changes are made.

Updated launch menu (Oblivion Launcher)
The updated launch menu now includes options to change the auto-detected "Video Quality" settings. These include "Very Low", "Low", "Medium", "High", and "Very High". If you select "Default", your system will be analyzed again and you will be offered the best settings for it.

Downloaded RePack somehow, on one torrent, I very much screwed up the assembly of some "author" for which the "professionals" in oblivion really screwed me up in the return line, they say, look how good he is, the game weighs 28GB ...
Here are the individual topics:

1. You can only install quest, weapon and armor plugins - and get hundreds of extra hours of play.
You can install houses and castles, shops and clothes - and turn Oblivion into a kind of Sims.
You can install only plug-ins from the Erotica series - and turn Oblivion into Hentai.
And, finally, you can choose some ONE plugin or install ALL at once (I do not recommend installing everything. Why - read below). That is why, and also for the convenience of updating, I did not pack the entire collection into one archive or upload it as a disk image.
In any case, install plugins ONE at a time! This makes it easier to identify incompatibilities, if any.

2. Almost all the archives were a terrible mixture of descriptions, screenshots and plugins themselves. Now all plugins are repacked by 7-Zip archiver in "Ultra" mode, which made it possible to reduce archives by 20-40 percent; Readme and screenshots are taken out of archives and packaged in CHM files.
Installation is now a simple drag-and-drop.
1. Open the "Oblivion" folder (for the "Gold Edition" this is "C:\Program Files\Oblivion"), open the desired archive, click on the "Data" folder in the archive with the mouse, drag it to the "Oblivion" folder and drop it. To the request to replace files, we answer: "Yes, for everyone." Run "OblivionLauncher.exe", press the "Data Files" button, find the required plugin and activate it by double-clicking the mouse, press OK, play...
2. Plugins created with OBSE (OBlivion Script Extender) firstly require its presence, and secondly - they are launched only with its help. Open the archive with OBSE (folder "Programs" of the collection), copy the archive files to the folder with the game and then run it ONLY using the file "obse_loader.exe" (make a shortcut for this file on the Desktop). To install and activate the plugin, we repeat the gestures described in paragraph 1.
For more comfortable work, install the OBSE Launcher ("Programs" folder of the collection), it allows you to launch not only the game, but also the Constructor with OBSE (it will come in handy if you decide, for example, to edit plugins created using OBSE. With it, I corrected grammatical errors in the "Sexlivion" plugin).

3. 1. Oblivion Launcher allows you to enable and disable plugins, but does not control the order in which they are loaded. To do this, install the "Oblivion Mod Manager" (the "Programs" folder of the collection), which allows you not only to connect plugins, but also manage the order in which they are loaded. If the description says that the plugin should be loaded after all, run OMM, find your plugin and set the load queue for it using the "Move up" or "Move down" buttons. In order not to bother with the load order, use the BOSS program (Better Oblivion Sorting Software). If you have replaced textures (and meshes) of bodies, buildings, or terrain, be sure to invalidate the textures. Run OMM, click on the "Utilities" button, select "Archive Invalidation", check "Textures" and "Meshes" and click on the "Update now" button.
2. Although I wrote above that you can install ALL plugins, this is not so. In Oblivion there is a limit on the number of ESP files - 256, including official and 1C (and in my collection there are already over 1000 of them). If after installing the next plugin the game crashes immediately after launch, see if you need, for example, plugins of already completed quests, and disable unnecessary ones.
3. The game may crash and hang if the graphics settings do not match the hardware (high). Set the settings to "default" and then gradually increase. It is useful to read "What oblivion.ini hides" in the Documentation section.
4. Don't forget about drivers! New is not always the best! As an example: I installed ATI Catalyst ™ 9.7, as it should be, deleting the old ones and rebooting the computer. "Crashes" began - to the desktop, tightly, with a reboot and (oh, horror!) With BSOD. Having suffered, I installed (without even uninstalling the current ones) ATI Catalyst ™ 9.5. Everything! 5-6 hours of play with maximum settings - and not a single "crash"!
5. I hope you don't need to be reminded that from time to time it is necessary to defragment the disk and clean the "Temp" folder, as well as close all applications before starting the game? Rebooting the system often helps. Well, in the end, even "pure" Oblivion, without any plug-ins, hangs and "crashes" quite often - take it philosophically. And better - save before fast-travel (journey on the map) - my game crashes at this very moment.
6. The following does not apply to the freezing or "crash" of the game, but it will still be useful:
Some plugins need to be connected ONLY at a certain moment of the game, for example, "Whispered Warning" (folder "Plugins - Gameplay" of the collection) is connected only after receiving the order to "cleanse the Dark Brotherhood", if we connect it earlier, then the "party in Summermist" in Skingrad will not will take place - we simply will not be able to get into the house;
It is impossible to connect conflicting plugins at the same time, for example "Kvatch Rebuilt" and "Servant of the Dawn" - in one you must restore Kvatch, and in the other, re-open the Gate to Oblivion;
Try NOT to execute several quests at the same time - quests are strictly "tied" to scripts, and the execution of several scripts at once can lead to unpredictable consequences. For example, when I completed the Thieves Guild and Mages Guild quests at the same time, the first one "froze" - the Gray Fox stopped giving tasks.
A few words about buildings - for example, one author built the Castle of Olauron (a whole city in fact), on the water, by the way, he built it so as not to disturb anyone, "filling" the whole peninsula; Well, how does he know that another author will place an underwater house (Bravil Sea Domes) in the same place? And there are already 5-6 such "crossings" in the collection (or maybe more). I did not delete the "repetitions" - you decide which house has the right to exist and which does not. But, in any case, do not rush to put all the houses at once, otherwise you will forget where to look for which one.
It's the same with clothes: don't rush to buy (collect) everything at once, firstly, you won't take everything away, and secondly, even if the weight of things is zero, your inventory will open for several minutes.

4. Patches: NoDVD Oblivion Gold Edition - pill from "greed" for the Gold Edition.
Oblivion gold patch en 1.0 - Patch for the Gold Edition of January 24, 2008
- Fixed incorrect voice acting of some characters.
- Fixed the map and a number of other textures.
- Fixed typos.
- Fixed the name of the summoned creature.
Oblivion gold patch ru 1.1 - another patch for the Gold edition.
- Fixed incorrect work of the side altars in the chapels.
- Fixed typos in texts.
Oblivion Knights patch ru 1.1 - a patch for the "Knights of the Nine" addon, it's a must.
- Corrects some scripts, and also corrects errors and random typos in the texts.
- Adds 7 official addons with official translation from 1C: Spell Tomes, The Vile Lair, Mehrunes "Razor, The Thieves Den, Wizard's Tower, Orrery, Horse Armor Pack.
Unofficial Oblivion Patch 3.2.0_1C_Gold - Unofficial Oblivion patch 1.2.0416 fixes about 1800 bugs.
Unofficial Official Mods Patch 15 (28.08.08) - Unofficial patch for all official plugins from Bethesda.
Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch 1.4.0 (26.08.08) - Unofficial patch for SI version 1.2.0416, fixes about 220 bugs.

I would slam such a collector. so you need to take the original, and not bathe with such hickeys ... damn repack...

Fans of The Elder Scrolls Oblivion are faced with an unpleasant situation when, after installation, the game does not start. Or errors appear during the installation process. Let's figure out what the reason is and fix the problem. The methods outlined in this article are not limited to The Elder Scrolls Oblivion. If not enough, the problem remains unresolved, read other materials on the site.

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion won't install

If The Elder Scrolls Oblivion does not install, check to see if there is enough free space on your hard drive. The distribution requires free space, so a few gigabytes of extra space won't hurt. Many modern games require a significant volume.

Installation of The Elder Scrolls Oblivion blocked by antivirus

Often, antivirus programs, in the fight against viruses, protecting our computer from external threats, for security purposes, block numerous processes performed by the operating system. Sometimes such security is so strong that the antivirus blocks access not only to viruses, but also suspends some normal processes, perhaps by mistake, considering them potentially vulnerable. Disable your antivirus during installation.

Cleaning the computer and restarting

Sometimes, a simple reboot of the system can immediately solve many problems that arise both during the installation of games and their subsequent work. The same applies to programs and applications. There are many reasons: the computer is clogged with garbage, the system cache is full, the maximum allowable number of simultaneously running processes, some may be frozen and not running, but they put a load on the system. Cleaning the computer and restarting will fix the situation.

No Internet access

Some game clients during the installation process require an Internet connection, providing access to the installation server or update server. Make sure the connection is good, and if there is no Internet, be prepared for problems when installing The Elder Scrolls Oblivion. Well, if the system gives an error message. And if there is none, you can think for a long time and wonder why the toy is not installed.

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion won't launch

Before looking for reasons why The Elder Scrolls Oblivion does not start, make sure that the installation itself was successful. Otherwise, if there were failures during the installation process, but at the same time the game was installed, it is impossible to guarantee the subsequent launch and performance. If it starts - lucky. What will happen next is unknown. Remember the installation process.

Reinstalling the game

Many gamers have repeatedly encountered a situation where they had to reinstall games. Apparently this is the case where reinstalling The Elder Scrolls Oblivion will fix the issue. It is not known what this is connected with, maybe the antivirus or firewall "ate" some files or something else at the time of installation, but after installing the game again, it starts and works. Uninstall The Elder Scrolls Oblivion and reinstall, paying attention to every detail during this process. Perhaps at some point the program will ask for additional files, etc.

There are times when installing on top of an already installed game solves the situation. The installer may offer to update the files. Thus, there is no need for removal. Well, something like this.

Finding information by error text

Another option. Problems when starting The Elder Scrolls Oblivion are usually accompanied by a corresponding system message. Specify the text of the error in the search, as a result of which you will receive the most detailed answer, and, moreover, regarding this particular problem. Actually, the decision will not keep you waiting. This way you can pinpoint the cause and fix the problem.

By the way, for some reason I always forget about it. Until I turn over the whole computer. But this the method works for all 92%. It is enough just to score the text in the search and find a useful article. So you will definitely solve the problem, you do not need to send the PC to the workshop ahead of time and incur additional costs. There is a lot of useful material on the Internet - study it.

Running The Elder Scrolls Oblivion as Administrator

Run the game as an administrator. In our case, to run The Elder Scrolls Oblivion as an administrator, you need to right-click on the game's shortcut and select Run as administrator. Subsequently, if this method solves the problem, make it the default. Open the Shortcut Properties, in the Compatibility tab, and check the box Run this program as an administrator.

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion is not compatible with the system

Another obstacle to running The Elder Scrolls Oblivion may be incompatibility with your operating system. In this case, all in the same place, in the Properties of the shortcut, add the checkbox Run the program in compatibility mode, select the desired OS from the drop-down list.

.NET Framework not installed

A very serious problem with launching The Elder Scrolls Oblivion is the lack of an installed .NET Framework library on the computer, which ensures the launch and maintains the performance of programs and applications, including games. This is a prerequisite and Microsoft .NET Framework must be installed on your PC.

There are different versions of the .NET Framework. The presence of any one of them on the computer cannot sufficiently guarantee the correct operation of the program. If, for example, the library is already installed on the computer, but the game requires it, download and install it. Restart your PC. The previous version will not be deleted or overwritten. They will just work together.

Use programs that will prepare your computer for the correct operation of the game, help to avoid many problems and errors.

Operating system Software
Windows XP/7/8/10
Windows XP/7/8/10
Windows XP/7/8/10

Availability of DirectX

Perhaps the most important condition, a requirement that must be met for games, including The Elder Scrolls Oblivion, is that the computer has . No toy will work without it. Almost all distributions that require DirectX installed already have this set in their composition.

As a rule, DirectX is installed automatically during installation. If it is not in the distribution, download and install. It is not necessary to do this before installation, it is possible after, but the presence on the computer is simply necessary. Download links are located above.

What to do if The Elder Scrolls Oblivion is not working?

Do not despair if you have already gone through all the ways and nothing helps, the game does not work. Perhaps these tips will seem too vague, incomprehensible, errors are still present. Check again, did you do everything right? If necessary, download another distribution of The Elder Scrolls Oblivion, if purchased in a store, contact the seller (manufacturer) for help. Maybe the disk is corrupted, something is missing. It's normal, quite natural, it happens. Use a different distribution and install the game again.

As a last resort, there are situations when the operating system is still incompatible with The Elder Scrolls Oblivion. Update the system using Windows tools (via Update Center). The game will work. If the manufacturer indicated compatibility, then he is responsible for this. Update your operating system.

Reinstalling the OS is a last resort. Not sure about statements like "the operating system is pirated... assembly... won't work..." or "a hacked, pirated toy - throw it away ...". The moment that is worth your attention is to remember if there were similar problems with other games, in particular, similar to The Elder Scrolls Oblivion. And if problems were observed, this suggests that it may be time to update something in the system or reinstall. Thank you for attention!

Other materials

Unfortunately, there are flaws in games: brakes, low FPS, crashes, freezes, bugs and other minor and not very errors. Often problems begin before the game even starts, when it won't install, won't load, or won't even download. Yes, and the computer itself is sometimes weird, and then in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, instead of a picture, there is a black screen, control does not work, no sound is heard, or anything else.

What to do first

  1. Download and run the world famous CCleaner(download from a direct link) is a program that will clean your computer of unnecessary garbage, as a result of which the system will work faster after the first reboot;
  2. Update all drivers in the system using the program Driver Updater(download via direct link) - it will scan your computer and update all drivers to the latest version in 5 minutes;
  3. Install Advanced System Optimizer(download from a direct link) and turn on the game mode in it, which will end useless background processes during game launch and increase performance in the game.

The second thing to do if you encounter any problems with The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is to check the system requirements. In a good way, you need to do this even before the purchase, so as not to regret the money spent.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion minimum system requirements:

Windows XP, Processor: Pentium 4, 512 Mb RAM, 4.7 Gb HDD, Video memory: 128 Mb

Every gamer should at least have a little understanding of the components, to know why a video card, processor and other things are needed in the system unit.

Files, drivers and libraries

Almost every device in a computer requires a set of special software. These are drivers, libraries and other files that ensure the correct operation of the computer.

It's worth starting with the drivers for the video card. Modern graphics cards are produced by only two large companies - Nvidia and AMD. Having found out which product spins the coolers in the system unit, we go to the official website and download the package of fresh drivers:

A prerequisite for the successful functioning of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is the availability of the latest drivers for all devices in the system. Download the utility Driver Updater to easily and quickly download the latest drivers and install them with one click:

If The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion does not start, we recommend that you try disabling your antivirus or put the game in the antivirus exceptions, and also check the system requirements again and if something from your build does not match, then improve your PC if possible, purchasing more powerful components.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion has a black screen, white screen, color screen. Solution

Problems with screens of different colors can be roughly divided into 2 categories.

Firstly, they are often associated with the use of two video cards at once. For example, if your motherboard has an integrated video card, but you are playing on a discrete one, then The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion may run on the built-in one for the first time, while you will not see the game itself, because the monitor is connected to a discrete video card.

Secondly, color screens happen when there are problems with displaying the image on the screen. This can happen for various reasons. For example, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion cannot work with an outdated driver or does not support a video card. Also, a black / white screen may be displayed when working at resolutions that are not supported by the game.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion crashes. At a certain or random moment. Solution

You play for yourself, play and here - bam! - everything goes out, and now you have a desktop without any hint of the game. Why is this happening? To solve the problem, it is worth trying to figure out what the nature of the problem is.

If the crash occurs at a random point in time without any pattern, then with a probability of 99% we can say that this is a mistake of the game itself. In this case, fixing something is very difficult, and the best thing is to just put The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion aside and wait for the patch.

However, if you know exactly at what moments the crash occurs, then you can continue the game, avoiding situations that provoke a crash.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion freezes. The picture freezes. Solution

The situation is about the same as with crashes: many freezes are directly related to the game itself, or rather, to the developer's mistake when creating it. However, a frozen picture can often become a starting point for investigating the deplorable state of a video card or processor.

So if the picture in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion freezes, then use the programs to display statistics on the loading of components. Perhaps your video card has long exhausted its working life or the processor is heating up to dangerous temperatures?

The easiest way to check the loading and temperatures for the video card and processors is in the MSI Afterburner program. If desired, you can even display these and many other parameters on top of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion image.

What temperatures are dangerous? Processors and video cards have different operating temperatures. For video cards, they are usually 60-80 degrees Celsius. The processors are slightly lower - 40-70 degrees. If the processor temperature is higher, then you should check the condition of the thermal paste. It may have dried out and needs to be replaced.

If the video card is heating up, then you should use the driver or the official utility from the manufacturer. You need to increase the number of revolutions of the coolers and see if the operating temperature drops.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion slows down. Low FPS. Frame rate drops. Solution

With stutters and low frame rates in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, the first step is to lower the graphics settings. Of course, there are a lot of them, so before reducing everything in a row, you should find out exactly how certain settings affect performance.

Screen resolution. In short, this is the number of points that make up the picture of the game. The higher the resolution, the higher the load on the video card. However, the increase in load is negligible, so reducing the screen resolution should only be the last resort, when everything else does not help.

Texture quality. Typically, this setting determines the resolution of texture files. Decrease the quality of textures if the video card has a small amount of video memory (less than 4 GB) or if you are using a very old hard drive with a spindle speed of less than 7200.

Model quality(sometimes just details). This setting determines which set of 3D models will be used in the game. The higher the quality, the more polygons. Accordingly, high-poly models require more processing power of the video card (not to be confused with the amount of video memory!), which means that this parameter should be reduced on video cards with a low core or memory frequency.

Shadows. They are implemented in different ways. In some games, shadows are created dynamically, that is, they are calculated in real time every second of the game. Such dynamic shadows load both the processor and the video card. In order to optimize, developers often abandon the full rendering and add a pre-render of shadows to the game. They are static, because in fact they are just textures that are superimposed on top of the main textures, which means they load memory, and not the core of the video card.

Often, developers add additional settings related to shadows:

  • Shadow Resolution - determines how detailed the shadow cast by the object will be. If the game has dynamic shadows, then it loads the core of the video card, and if a pre-created render is used, then it “eats” the video memory.
  • Soft shadows - smoothing out bumps on the shadows themselves, usually this option is given along with dynamic shadows. Regardless of the type of shadows, it loads the video card in real time.

Smoothing. Allows you to get rid of ugly corners at the edges of objects by using a special algorithm, the essence of which is usually to generate several images at once and compare them, calculating the most “smooth” image. There are many different anti-aliasing algorithms that vary in their level of impact on the performance of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion.

For example, MSAA works head-on, creating 2, 4, or 8 renders at once, so the frame rate is reduced by 2, 4, or 8 times, respectively. Algorithms such as FXAA and TAA operate a little differently, achieving a smooth image by calculating only the edges and using some other tricks. Because of this, they do not reduce performance as much.

Lighting. As in the case of anti-aliasing, there are different algorithms for lighting effects: SSAO, HBAO, HDAO. All of them use the resources of the video card, but they do it differently depending on the video card itself. The fact is that the HBAO algorithm was promoted mainly on video cards from Nvidia (GeForce line), so it works best on the “green” ones. HDAO, on the other hand, is optimized for AMD graphics cards. SSAO is the simplest type of lighting, it consumes the least resources, so in case of slowdowns in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, it is worth switching to it.

What should be lowered first? Shadows, anti-aliasing, and lighting effects are usually the most stressful, so it's best to start with them.

Often gamers themselves have to deal with the optimization of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. For almost all major releases, there are various related and forums where users share their ways to improve productivity.

One of them is a special program called Advanced System Optimizer. It is made specifically for those who do not want to manually clean up the computer from various temporary files, delete unnecessary registry entries and edit the startup list. Advanced System Optimizer will do this on its own and will also analyze your computer to find out how you can improve performance in applications and games.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion lags. Big game delay. Solution

Many people confuse "lag" with "lag", but these problems have completely different causes. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion lags when the frame rate at which the image is displayed on the monitor decreases, and lags when the delay when accessing the server or any other host is too high.

That is why "lags" can only be in network games. The reasons are different: bad network code, physical distance from servers, network congestion, incorrectly configured router, low Internet connection speed.

However, the latter is the least common. In online games, communication between the client and the server occurs by exchanging relatively short messages, so even 10 MB per second should be enough for the eyes.

There is no sound in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. I can not hear anything. Solution

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion works, but for some reason does not sound - this is another problem that gamers face. Of course, you can play like that, but it's still better to figure out what's the matter.

First you need to determine the scope of the problem. Where exactly is there no sound - only in the game or in general on the computer? If only in the game, then perhaps this is due to the fact that the sound card is very old and does not support DirectX.

If there is no sound at all, then the matter is definitely in the computer settings. Perhaps the sound card drivers are not installed correctly, or maybe there is no sound due to some specific error of our favorite Windows OS.

Controls not working in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion does not recognize a mouse, keyboard, or gamepad. Solution

How to play if it is impossible to control the process? The problems of supporting specific devices are out of place here, because we are talking about familiar devices - keyboard, mouse and controller.

Thus, errors in the game itself are practically excluded, almost always the problem is on the user's side. You can solve it in different ways, but, one way or another, you will have to turn to the driver. Usually, when you connect a new device, the operating system immediately tries to use one of the standard drivers, but some models of keyboards, mice, and gamepads are not compatible with them.

Thus, you need to find out the exact model of the device and try to find exactly its driver. Often, devices from well-known gaming brands come with their own software kits, since the standard Windows driver simply cannot ensure the correct operation of all the functions of a particular device.

If you don’t want to look for drivers for all devices separately, you can use the program Driver Updater. It is designed to automatically search for drivers, so you only need to wait for the scan results and download the necessary drivers in the program interface.

Quite often the brakes in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion can be caused by viruses. In this case, there is no difference how powerful the video card is in the system unit. You can check your computer and clean it of viruses and other unwanted software using special programs. For example NOD32 . The antivirus has proven itself from the best side and has received the approval of millions of users around the world.

Suitable for both personal use and small businesses, ZoneAlarm is able to protect a computer running Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP from any attack: phishing, viruses, malware, spyware and other cyber threats . New users are given a 30-day free trial.

Nod32 is an antivirus from ESET, which has received many awards for its contribution to the development of security. Versions of anti-virus programs for both PC and mobile devices are available on the developer's website, a 30-day trial version is provided. There are special conditions for business.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion torrent download does not work. Solution

If the distribution kit of the game was downloaded via torrent, then in principle there can be no guarantees of work. Torrents and repacks are almost never updated through official applications and do not work over the network, because in the course of hacking, hackers cut out all network functions from games, which are often used to check the license.

Using such versions of games is not only inconvenient, but even dangerous, because very often many files have been changed in them. For example, to bypass protection, pirates modify an EXE file. However, no one knows what else they do with it. Maybe they embed self-executing software. For example, which, when the game is first launched, will be integrated into the system and will use its resources to ensure the well-being of hackers. Or, giving access to the computer to third parties. There are no guarantees and there cannot be.

In addition, the use of pirated versions is, according to our publication, theft. The developers have spent a lot of time creating the game, investing their own money in the hope that their offspring will pay off. And every work must be paid.

Therefore, if you encounter any problems with games downloaded from torrents or hacked using certain means, you should immediately remove the “pirate”, clean your computer with an antivirus and a licensed copy of the game. This will not only save you from dubious software, but also allow you to download updates for the game and receive official support from its creators.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion throws an error about a missing DLL file. Solution

As a rule, problems associated with the absence of DLLs occur when launching The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, however, sometimes the game can access certain DLLs in the process and, without finding them, crash in the most brazen manner.

To fix this error, you need to find the required DLL and install it on the system. The easiest way to do this is with a program. DLL fixer, which scans the system and helps you quickly find missing libraries.
