What is a car play on an iPhone. Advantages and disadvantages. Chatting without hands

The 2014 Consumer Electronics Show, a show often referred to as a meeting of geeks and nerds of computer networks wearing khaki pants, this year brought together a record number of automotive exhibitors.

And the world famous corporation Apple at this show showed that it is ready to accept a fat piece of cake in the sphere. The company at this show had a booth named " IOS in the car". And a new phrase." Apple carplay"began to be closely combined with some car manufacturers, and some of the models will already be released by the end of 2014.

Like many other communication systems in the car, the whole idea of \u200b\u200bCarPlay is to allow you to do everything that is in your car, but not be distracted by the main action - driving. In this case, the key role in the system is played by the Siri application, which can dictate commands and answer any questions, adapting individually to the style of your speech. But the main thing is that very soon we will find out how well it works, as soon as the equipment in the cars appears on the streets of our city.

Demonstration of the CarPlay system in a Ferrari car at the Geneva Motor Show

The operation of the CarPlay system is quite simple - in general, like everything else, for which Apple undertakes. You take your iPhone 5, 5S, or 5C and connect it through a special Lightening connector to the car interface. Voila! Your car now has almost all the functions of your phone, the way you always wanted. However, the on-board computer of the car does not do all the hard work that is running on your IOS; believe me, it has a lot of other - more important work - such as, after all, reading information from the numerous sensors of the machine in order to maintain the stable operation of ABS and ESP or to make sure that your airbags are in working order at the right time save your life ... and all this while you break the boxes in Angry Birds by birds, scroll through (and, in your voice) your favorite group’s playlist or write an important entry in Evernote. Your iPhone works with your car. This means that applications must be installed on your mobile phone to see them on the car interface in the console. CarPlay fully integrates the machine and the iPhone. It works initially with car controls, such as volume for playing music and talking on the phone, so you don’t have to spend time picking your phone to make changes. It also works together with a touch screen on the dashboard of your car as well as a display on your phone.

Connect to CarPlay via iPhone

However, not all applications can run on CarPlay, at least in their normal mode. At the same time, it is Apple that will dictate the last word to you about what will work and what will not. Indeed, the choice of application comes down mainly to. The idea behind CarPlay and almost any other in-car entertainment and communications system is to minimize distractions. At least this is what all technical manufacturers claim. In any case, it is very unlikely that Apple will be able to make the same Angry Birds or Doom game safe while you are driving. Music, navigation, and anything that can be controlled without the use of hands, or even with one hand, can take place because your hands and eyes must be behind the wheel.

If you are an ardent fan of Siri and cannot imagine your life without her voice even for a second, CarPlay will turn your dreams into reality. Siri will talk to you directly from the speakers of your car surrounding you. She will view the calendar and email and tell you about upcoming events and meetings while you are driving. She will read you SMS messages and allow you to dictate the answer to them.

After the debut in Geneva at CarPlay, only a few pre-approved apps were available. Siri, of course, became the main one. In addition to Siri, some application (and, most likely, there will be several) will be available for listening to music.

But you probably already wonder: “And where is the main application, so necessary on the road ?!”, isn’t it? Yes, such an application will definitely be present with CarPlay, but according to preliminary data, it will not be Google Maps. The problem is that there is so far no way to link Google maps with Siri to let you find your destination and build a route to it. You will have to use the "Apple" version of the cards - Apple Maps - in CarPlay, but you should like it. Although, however, from the first days of its existence, Apple Maps has improved quite a bit.

When Apple made its debut with CarPlay in 2014 at the Geneva Motor Show, the company confirmed that it is already working with a dozen car manufacturers, including buying a new car for your loved one, you will probably even be presented with the opportunity to choose the operating environment in which you already live in everyday life, and for the car you want to buy. And while the operating system lives on the phone, and not on the car’s hard drive, this makes a lot of sense.

We took Tiguan in a new body. The City version, crammed with electronics for the most mud flaps, is not a car, but one large gadget. You can’t figure it out with the poke method, the first weeks I carefully studied the instructions.

But I began, of course, with Apple carplay. I noticed that the site has not yet reviewed this topic. It's time to fix it

Is CarPlay like an iPhone in a car?

No, this is not an iPhone. This is not even a full-fledged operating system like iOS.

In fact, CarPlay is one like AirPlay. That is, it is a system for transmitting and displaying data from your gadget on an external display. In this case, automobile.

Carplay broadcasts adapted versions of applications from the iPhone. You will not find Clash of Clans or Instagram here. The Cupertinians primarily thought about the safety of the participants in the movement, and the platform is very limited in capabilities.

But even these minimal functions are enough.

Important fact:   CarPlay does not work without iPhone. Therefore, it is always only part of the car’s media system. For example, I can output music through the good old AUX, listen to the radio, turn on CarPlay or run a similar solution for Android. The driver always has a choice.

My Tiguan has a console with wired carplay. Wireless CarPlay is not uncommon, it just happened to me.

But! Motorists, pay attention. Wired CarPlay is preferable to wireless, because the latter forcibly turns on the modem mode on the iPhone - and this mercilessly spends the battery, which in the end forces you to keep the smartphone charging anyway. Not thought out.

Okay, time to figure it out. What can CarPlay do?

The set of applications in CarPlay does not depend on the version of the car's media system. All programs are simply "picked up" from your iPhone.

It also means that you no need to pay for CarPlay update: It will match the capabilities of the iOS version on the iPhone. A huge plus, if you recall that iOS is updated 10 times a year, and cars are changed every 3-5 years.

CarPlay takes your programs from an iPhone and displays them in another interface on the car’s media system screen. Type like a projector.

The media system displays alerts, messages, call history, map routes, and in general almost everything you did or continue to do on the iPhone. It is quite convenient, but there are limitations, which I will now discuss in more detail.

Interestingly, if you uninstall any standard iOS application, it will also disappear from CarPlay. Another reminder that CarPlay only duplicates the iPhone, and is not an independent media system.

I explain the limitations and features of CarPlay applications.

1. 🎵 Apple Music

What you turn on first thing and what they generally take CarPlay for. Apple Music implemented gorgeous, from the screen in the car, all tabs are available except search. All so that you are not distracted by entering names while driving. Such care pleases.

On the other hand, why not add voice input? To find a specific track or playlist, I have to take the iPhone and search there, it is much faster. That's just not safe.

Apple Music works through your mobile Internet on your iPhone or plays tracks previously downloaded to your smartphone. You can create a playlist station based on your favorite track directly from the media system screen. I have never come in handy.

2. ✉ Messages

"Messages" for CarPlay also greatly adapted. You will not find message history or attached files. The application allows you to listen to the last message in the selected dialogue and right there dictate   the answer to it.

Before sending, the message will be voiced aloud again. It will reach the addressee in text form, sometimes with funny speech recognition errors.

There can be no talk of full correspondence. The Messages app on CarPlay is more secure. Suddenly something urgent will come. So forget about the smile-poop, stickers and other amenities.

A notification with a new message will also not show you the text. Click on the blue arrow and listen to the answer. The counter on the icon is synchronized with the phone.

3. 📞 Calls

Calls have not been affected even once. On the contrary, steel more convenient. CarPlay navigates to Contacts, shows a list of recent and favorites, allows you to enter a number manually. All this works with the buttons on the steering wheel and the physical keys of the console.

Notifications of missed calls are also synchronized with the phone. Everything works quickly, turns on easily and does not distract at all. 10 speakerphones out of 10.

4. 🗺 Cards

It is unlikely that anyone will be surprised by the fact that CarPlay supports only   branded Apple Cards. The company is struggling to maintain a lagging service. Perhaps the situation with Maps is better in the USA, but applications from Yandex or even 2GIS will be much more informative in Russia.

Lack of normal maps critically   for the regions of the Russian Federation, and in the capital is not happy. In a dense traffic stream, traffic and camera information is much more important than a beautiful interface. Not to mention the relevance of the data.

But when disconnected from CarPlay in Maps marked parking place. Nice little thing.

Personally, I was lucky. In our city, the roads are not very busy, and the location of the cameras is remembered at a time. I turn on cards only occasionally when I go to an unfamiliar address. And sometimes I disconnect the iPhone from CarPlay and run Yandex on it in order to accurately get there.

5. 🗣 Siri

In the corner of the touchpad CarPlay hid a small home button   (it depends on the model). Like on an iPhone, pressing returns you to the main menu from any application, and a long press calls Siri.

Cool chips for voice control systems of the car are missing. Rumor has it that Apple CarPlay will learn how to control the temperature in the cabin, lock doors or even park. I have not seen this. I hope that in the next updates will add at least basic features. It's cool, the future and all that.

6. 📖 Audiobooks, Podcasts, WhatsApp and more

CarPlay supports third-party applications, which Apple proudly claims to us. Either the developers are not interested in this direction, or in Cupertino too strict   the rules of moderation - but for four years I see a very scanty, miserable list of CarPlay programs.

After a recent update, WhatsApp appeared among the icons. The program is practically no different from Messages - the same lack of text and history, the same dictation. But at least now you can communicate with those who use it.

Of the proprietary applications in the infotainment system of the car, Audiobooks and Podcasts are reflected. I am not a fan of this type of entertainment, I did not test it for long. Podcasts are loaded directly from the Internet, and audio books will have to be uploaded to the iPhone in advance. The interface is intuitive and is unlikely to cause anyone any difficulty: choose, turn on and listen.

Well, CarPlay in the car - is it really convenient?

Surprisingly, yes.   This is quite convenient.

I get in the car, cling to Lightning and completely forget about the existence of the iPhone. The machine dictates to me all incoming messages, and not only iMessage, but also ordinary SMS. Basic functionality Kart   quite enough, and calls do not distract from the road at all.

Yes, all this can be deployed on any Android receiver. But my acquaintance with them is overshadowed by the looped error of Google services. It was not treated in any way, since the car was not mine. And here the system works perfectly. And it does not require any updates. She just IS.

All this stuff is easily controlled by buttons on the steering wheel, “twists” on the console or touch panel. There is even a dock with the last three applications. I am delighted.

But CarPlay got me a bonus. I would never choose a car just because of this add-on. There are no defining advantages. It's like a built-in Handsfree-headset: useful, cool, but will never be the reason for choosing a particular machine.

What is missing CarPlay in Russia and not only?

Normal third-party applications.

Apple does not need to develop anything itself, just give access to other developers. And they will come up with how to broadcast content on the screen without distracting the driver.

For example, a YouTube video could only be launched with the parking brake applied. Or even cooler, when the signal from the iPhone sensors that the car stopped.

Messengers could show videos and gifs like that. Even Telegram support with the same dictation will make CarPlay better. But alas.

Most disappointing is the lack of support for third-party card applications like Yandex. If it was, then I would safely recommend CarPlay to the owners of the iPhone: which driver will refuse a free-of-charge updated and always up-to-date navigator ??

Bonus How to install CarPlay in your Lada

To use CarPlay, it is not necessary to buy a stuffed Volkswagen. Enough to get a receiver with support for the Apple interface!

This topic draws on a separate article, so for now I will say briefly. You can get confused and bring a wireless solution from Alpine, or go to any electronics store and purchase a car radio simpler, from or

Buying a new car is fun until you dive into exploring its infotainment system. Automakers - whose experience is more specifically in vehicles and not in software, usually install too complex systems that make you feel like a caveman, using a smartphone for the first time.

This is not the best thing when you have other priorities. For example, monitor the condition on the road.

Car manufacturers rarely change their priorities, but sometimes they provide drivers with an alternative and more familiar infotainment system: CarPlay. This is Apple's initiative to apply its iPhone software experience in a car, with Siri's voice commands.

Why would you want to use CarPlay.

CarPlay is a stripped down version of iOS for your car. With it, you can send messages from iMessage, turn on music, get directions, listen to podcasts and radio streams (Beats1, of course), and call people without touching the phone.

Everything looks like it's iOS for your car, but it is not. CarPlay does not replace the standard entertainment system - it is just an application. Therefore, when you need to perform specific actions in the car, such as adjusting the temperature, viewing the rear camera, listening to the radio or adjusting the general parameters of your car, you will need to exit CarPlay and return to the standard interface of the car.

What cars does CarPlay work with?

If you have iPhone 5 or newer running iOS 7.1 or higher, your phone will work with CarPlay. But this is only half the equation. Let's look at cars that support Apple CarPlay technology.

Apple has posted a complete list of compatible cars broken down by make and model. There are 24 different car manufacturers on the list, with a total of 114 car models offering CarPlay support.

Do not worry, although all the cars on this list were manufactured in 2016 - you can upgrade your old car with CarPlay support through third-party solutions. Here are some examples:

  • Pioneer offers 11 different options for non-original CarPlay support. Price ranges from $ 700 to $ 1,400.
  • JBL also produces the CarPlay unit, which is retail priced at $ 399.
  • Alpine and Kenwood also offer their own CarPlay-equipped systems.
If you are ready to change the unit of the media system of your car to CarPlay-compatible, then any car can be compatible.

Setting up CarPlay.

Take the Lightning-to-USB cable, connect it to the iPhone, connect the USB end to the car, and that’s it.

The first time you connect the phone, you will have to go through a quick confirmation process to get your car access to the phone. (It’s better to be in the parking lot, not in motion.) From now on, all you have to do is connect your phone and it will automatically switch to CarPlay mode.

At the moment, the CarPlay application starts automatically, or it must be selected in the menu of the media system. The main screen is a grid of application icons, which looks like an adapted version of the home screen on the iPhone. On the left side there is time and a level meter of a cellular signal. Just below these statistics, you will see a digital version of the home button on the iPhone. Click on it at any time to return to the main screen, or press and hold to activate Siri.

Navigating through the interface is carried out using standard tapes and swipes, but, unfortunately, the zoom gesture with two fingers is missing in the "Maps" application. Instead, you need to click on the buttons to zoom in or out on the selected map. The choice of such a design most likely depends on the hardware of the car, and not on CarPlay.

About Apple CarPlay Applications

For security reasons, not all applications are accessible through CarPlay, and what you see is what you get. You cannot add, delete or change the icons, therefore the application icons are fixed on the screen: phone, music, maps, messages, Now playing, Podcasts and Audiobooks.

Although, there is one exception. Depending on the manufacturer of your car, you may see a shortcut in CarPlay for the primary media system of your car, so you can do things like quickly switch audio modes or control climate settings.

Back to Apple's default apps. An application, Phone, for example, does not automatically call up any kind of dial pad. Instead, you will immediately be asked by voice to say the name of the person you want to call. You need to click on "Show contacts" to have more options, such as Favorites, Recent, Contacts, Keyboard and Voicemail.

The Messages application is also adapted to use Siri. A voice prompts you to immediately say the name of the person to whom you want to send a message. If you have unread messages, Siri will ask if you want your unread messages to be read out loud or if you want to create a new message.

If you try to use the Messages application, as you usually do on the phone, this will fail. You can view the list of conversations, but you cannot view the message thread in the same way as on an iPhone. Instead, clicking on the conversation thread prompts Siri to ask again who you want to send the message to. Other applications are also focused on the use of Siri.

Installing applications is not Apple.

Non-apple applications make CarPlay an amazing phenomenon. On the official CarPlay website, Apple lists some of the most famous music and radio apps, such as Spotify, Slacker, and NPR News, that are compatible with CarPlay. But if you want to see the full list of compatible applications, search in Appstore for the word "CarPlay".

Any third-party CarPlay application will be automatically displayed on the second page of the CarPlay screen; just like on your iPhone. Just be aware that in some cases, you will need to finish installing the application on your phone before it appears in CarPlay.

At the moment, only third-party music and audio applications work with CarPlay, so don't dream about Google Maps on CarPlay anytime soon.

Siri.

You can still use Siri, as usual, when the iPhone is in CarPlay mode. You can ask for things like sports results and weather - basically any teams other than web searches.

Depending on your vehicle setup, you can call Siri in several different ways. For cars with a Bluetooth button on the steering wheel, just press and hold this button until you hear Siri's familiar tone. Or, press and hold the number “home” button on the CarPlay screen (in the photo on the left).

And finally, if you set up “Hey Siri” on the iPhone, you can simply say “Hey Siri” and speak the commands.

How to use iPhone in the car or everything you need to know about CarPlay. A smartphone is one of the most popular modern devices. It is designed not only for talking, but also for listening to music or using GPS navigation. This case has not escaped the attention of car manufacturers, which are increasingly providing the ability to integrate the phone with the radio into the car.

Integration means that by connecting the phone to the car we will see on the screen the selected applications that we use daily. In addition to navigation, it can be news, films, photos and programs. The type of application depends on which phone you are using. In addition, it is closely dependent on the connection standard: Android Auto, Bosch mySPIN, Ford AppLink, CarPlay, MirrorLink or MHL. We will review the most popular system - CarPlay.

The solution, developed by Apple and appeared on the market 5 years ago, works only with American branded phones. In most cars, it works through a traditional USB connection. Starting with the new BMW 5 Series, KarPlay will also be available wirelessly. To see the phone’s applications on the radio screen, you don’t need to use a USB cable.

How to check phone compatibility with CarPlay?

CarPlay mode is used only on some iPhone. It is available in the following models: 5, 5C, 5S, 6, S Plus, 6S, 6S Plus, SE, 7 and 7 Plus. This feature is not available for iPad and iPod Touch. CarPlay is installed by default on any compatible iPhone and does not require additional programs.

How to check car radio compatibility with CarPlay?

The solution is available only on multimedia radios with a large color screen, on which, for example, you can display a map of the navigation system. Compatible radio devices are not usually marked with the CarPlay logo symbol. Therefore, to make sure that the head unit of the car works with the iPhone, you can use the website of the car manufacturer and look for a bookmark on the compatibility of phones with factory installed equipment. Although on some cars (for example, Volvo XC90), CarPlay mode is available only after updating the radio firmware, which requires a visit to the station.

How to set up a smartphone for CarPlay?

In the general settings of your phone, select the CarPlay option. For proper operation, you need to activate the Siri voice assistant function (also in the general settings of the smartphone). Please note that on some vehicles, the CarPlay function may not work properly if you set the phone language to other than English (US).

Applications that run in CarPlay mode can be downloaded from the AppStore and automatically installed. Unfortunately, program availability varies by country. Therefore, their use in the Russian market is less than in the USA or Germany.

How to connect the phone to the car radio?

Both devices are connected via a USB cable. But on some cars equipped with several USB-connectors (for example, BMW, Opel), only one of them is designed to connect in CarPlay mode. Unless specifically indicated, you need to check the correctness of the manual. When connecting the phone, make sure that the screen is unlocked. Otherwise, the CarPlay function will not turn on.

To use Wireless CarPlay, you need to enable the Bluetooth function on your phone and then activate voice control in the car.

How does Karplay work?

The main menu of CarPlay, which appears on the screen at startup, is the default program selected by Apple. The icons are large and clearly marked, which greatly facilitates use. The entire user interface is designed for voice control, which requires knowledge of the English language. This is especially true for Apple Maps, in which the manual entry of the address was hidden from the user. Unfortunately, the program does not recognize Russian names of streets and cities that are pronounced in a voice. Thus, it remains to spend time entering the target manually. In this regard, Apple Maps is certainly an inconvenient navigation program. In addition, Apple Maps also does not have a warning about police cameras and other problems.

In terms of stability, CarPlay is rated very highly. The program does not freeze and does not slow down. None of the tested cars had problems that often happened in Mirror Link or in Android Auto. The telephone mode also works well - no one complained about the quality of voice and sound.

Apple CarPlay also works for listening to music, podcasts or Internet radio. The sound quality is very good, and the search for recordings is intuitive (you can use the recordings on the Internet and store them on your iPhone). Unfortunately, the choice of programs is very limited, in this regard, Apple continues to give way to Google.

Pros and cons of the program

Disadvantages of Apple CarPlay

  • Inconvenient manual entry of navigation address
  • Bad Apple Maps Navigation
  • Limited number of applications
  • The high cost of buying new phones

Benefits of Apple CarPlay

  • Stable operation in CarPlay mode
  • Convenient menu with a list of applications
  • Large selection of music listening software
  • Voice control with Siri function

Video instruction for CarPlay

Note that at the beginning of 2019 CarPlay still does not have official Apple technical support in Russia.

Technology is actively penetrating almost all spheres of human life from smart watches on hand to smart homes, but if we discard the niche business of electric vehicles for now, the automotive industry as a whole looks rather conservative. This is partly dictated by increased requirements for the safety of passenger transport, so the principle of "work - do not touch" has been practiced here for decades. But due to strange circumstances, progress often ignores infotainment systems in cars. Even in expensive models, very simple screens with graphics that were painted about 20 years ago are sometimes found. Therefore, it is not surprising that in 2014, Apple and Google announced their own interfaces for automotive systems. Until recently, manufacturers sold them as fairly expensive options, but today they are increasingly being delivered along with the standard multimedia center in the car. Therefore, we decided to take a closer look at what Android Auto and Apple CarPlay can offer users. And for this they used a car that just supports both systems.

Android Auto

The interface for car infotainment systems at Google was announced in 2014, but the program for Android smartphones came out only a year later, in 2015. The company then stated that they decided to start developing a new system, since cars, despite their popularity, still rarely have an Internet connection. Google decided to solve this problem using smartphones. Therefore, in order to start Android Auto, you first need to download the corresponding application from Google Play. And here, an unpleasant surprise awaits Ukrainian users, officially the Android Auto program in Ukraine is not available, so you will have to download and install it from third-party repositories.

However, on the part of Google this is quite logical, since Android Auto is tied to Assistant, and it does not officially work in our country. But does this interfere with the use of the system in the car? No.

Before moving on to the basic functions of Android Auto, a little dwell on the interface. For its basis, Google took the developments that were previously used in the first versions of the Wear OS smart watch operating system. Here, the main screen also consists of cards that automatically adjust to typical user tasks.

For example, if a person goes to work every morning and starts for this navigation in Google Maps along with Google Music, then Android Auto first shows him the cards of these applications.

In addition to cards, the system’s interface includes a navigation panel, on which buttons for quick access to maps, phone, music and the transition to the information system built into the machine are placed, as well as a cent button, which is responsible for taking a step back. Actually, this is the whole interface with which the user will have to work. Not enough? Yes, but this is the main idea of \u200b\u200bAndroid Auto, everything should be at hand and that the driver is less distracted from having to follow the road. Therefore, for example, there is no application menu in the system, although third-party Android Auto programs support, but only certain categories. For example, instead of Google Music, you can use, or select one of the available programs for radio, audio books and podcasts to listen to music. Thus, Google focuses on audio, as it distracts the driver in the car less.

For the same reason, Android Auto will not display the text of incoming messages on the screen, but only voice them. You can only answer them with your voice, Google speech recognition comes into play here, which does a pretty good job of it. It should be noted that if the application itself supports Android Auto, then its notification will be voiced by the system. Now the system is supported by such popular instant messengers as Telegram, WhatsApp, Skype, Hangouts, Kik, WeChat. But you can’t reply to emails in Gmail, and Google does not plan to add this feature yet.

The focus on security in Android Auto is evident even in the most unexpected moments. For example, while listening to music, the system will not let you scroll through playlists on Google Play for a long time. If you want to start the playlist, you need to do it quickly. Better yet, ask for it with a voice command.

If both applications are installed on the smartphone, then at the first start it offers to choose one of them, and in the future it will open automatically. Given that the built-in navigation in the car is basically a paid option, as well as the fact that it does not receive traffic data, Google Maps and Waze can significantly simplify the movement around the city and at the same time work for free.

At the moment, the easiest way to connect your smartphone to Android Auto via cable is through the USB port in the car. This year, Google provided wireless support for Android Auto for its Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones, but car manufacturers are in no hurry to implement this feature, as it will affect the final cost of the car.

In general, it can be noted that Android Auto does not provide all the functionality of a smartphone in the car’s infotainment system, however, it provides a number of useful features for the driver that do not distract him from the road.

Apple carplay

Apple announced its car system earlier than Google and implemented it as part of iOS, not a standalone application. In fact, the system broadcasts an image from the screen of a smartphone. Therefore, Apple CarPlay is immediately bundled with the iPhone and accordingly has no regional restrictions, like Android Auto.

The CarPlay interface is also designed in a minimalist style, but unlike the Google version, Apple's main focus is not on information, but on applications, so the main screen here consists of their icons. CarPlay navigation, as on the first versions of the iPhone, is as simple as possible: you can start the program and return to the main screen by pressing the virtual Home button. Instead of multitasking mode, Apple CarPlay displays in the column on the left three applications that were used last.

The logic of the Apple car system is the same as that of Google - less distracting the driver from the road. Therefore, the main emphasis here is also on audio, and not on reading information from the screen. Want to read a message or write to someone? Please, but do it by voice using Siri.

Yes, and you can dictate the message only through the built-in iOS application "Messages" with iMessage, yes WhatsApp, the support of which appeared only this year. At the same time, for example, receiving calls through Facebook Messenger works. Other instant messaging programs are not yet supported.

Working with audio also involves listening to music, and CarPlay has a lot to offer in this regard. The system supports playing music, podcasts and audio books. At the same time, you can listen to music both through Apple Music, and through third-party applications, for example, through Google Music, Deezer and Spotify.

Another important feature in Apple CarPlay is navigation, but now it is not implemented in the best way. The fact is that at the time of writing this material, the system only supports Apple Maps, and they do not work in Ukraine in the best way. But already in iOS 12 for CarPlay, third-party navigation programs should appear. In particular, Google Maps and Waze are being tested.

Connecting Apple CarPlay to a car is now most often carried out with a Lightning cable via a USB port, although even with iOS 9, the system has the ability to connect wirelessly. But as with Android Auto, for automakers, cable connection is still the easiest and most important option available.

Eventually

Summing up all the above, it is worth noting that we managed to achieve our goal, namely, to make the infotainment system in the car more convenient and, most importantly, connected to the Internet. At the same time, unlike regular offers, neither Android Auto nor Apple CarPlay are attached to the machine, regularly receive updates and in the future will offer users even more functions.
