Apple introduced three new devices - smartphones iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, smart watches Apple Watch (), and Apple Pay. The presentation took place at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts, where Steve Jobs showed the first Mac computer 30 years ago.
Both iPhones of the next generation have significantly increased in screen size, dimensions and weight. While the iPhone 5S had a 4-inch display and a weight of 112 grams, the iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch display, and the iPhone 6 Plus is even larger 5.5 ”(devices such as the 6 Plus are often called a" phablet ", from the addition two words Phone + Tablet (phone + tablet). Smartphones are heavier to 129 and 172 grams, respectively, although the thickness of the case was reduced to 6.9 and 7.1 mm (the thickness of the iPhone 5S - 7.6 mm).
Both Sixes use Retina HD screens. They have higher contrast and wider viewing angles than the iPhone 5S. The display resolution of the iPhone 6 is 1334 x 750 pixels (326 dpi), the iPhone 6 Plus is 1920 x 1080 pixels (401 dpi). The first has 38% more pixels than the 5S, the second has as many as 185%, that is, almost three times more. Horizontally, the home screen of smartphones contains, as before, 4 icons, and vertically - one row more.
The power button has moved to the right edge, the volume control keys have an oblong shape. The PV module slightly protrudes from the body.
To make the large iPhone 6 Plus more comfortable to operate with one hand, the developers went to some tweaks.
First, there is a new gesture called reachability. When you double-tap the Home button, the screen slides down, allowing you to easily reach the top buttons with your thumb.
Secondly, in landscape orientation, the 6 Plus phablet switches to "tablet" mode, rearranging the layout of the interface elements in accordance with the configuration of the free space.
Thirdly, the keyboard now has several additional buttons, which, in particular, allow you to copy and paste fragments of text.
The sixth iPhones are based on the second generation Apple A8 64-bit processor. It is 13% more compact than the A7, is manufactured using the 20 nm process technology and has 2 billion transistors. Overall, according to Apple CEO Tim Cook, the A8's performance is 20% faster and graphics are up to 50% faster than the previous model.
Also updated "motion coprocessor" M8, which learned to distinguish between the type of sports activities. That is, the processor now senses the difference between running and cycling. In addition, a new sensor has appeared - a barometer that senses pressure changes and thus detects when a person is going uphill or descending stairs.
Battery life hasn't changed radically. It is promised that the iPhone 6 will withstand 14 hours of talk time on the 3G network, and the iPhone 6 Plus - up to 24 hours. When playing a video, the first one should work without recharging for 11 hours, the second - 14 hours.
Both models received a new chipset that increases the data transfer rate within LTE networks up to 150 Mbps (versus 100 Mbps for the iPhone 5 / 5S). There was also support for VoLTE technology (Voice over LTE, voice over LTE), over which the company "cooperates with many operators around the world" (including SK Telecom, T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, etc.). Wi-Fi data transfer rate has tripled (802.11ac standard). You can start a call on the wireless network and continue the conversation on 3G without breaking the connection.
Let's move on to what is directly related to the topic of our site - a photomodule. Apple developers did not chase the number of megapixels of the main iSight camera, leaving it the same - 8 megapixels. Improved shooting quality is promised due to a new generation sensor (1.5 micron sensor elements) with back illumination and Focus Pixels technology, in which autofocusing is twice as fast. The lens has five lenses and an aperture of F / 2.2. The iPhone 6 Plus features optical image stabilization (for the first time in iPhones) - this is the key, in a photographic sense, the difference between the two "sixes".
Video shooting can go in Full HD 1080p format (at 30 or 60 frames per second), slow-motion recording is also implemented (at 120 or 240 fps). Panorama shooting mode allows you to capture images with a resolution of 43 megapixels. Improved face, smile and blink detection.
The secondary FaceTime camera, as before, has a resolution of 1.2 megapixels and can shoot HD video (720p).
The Touch ID fingerprint sensor has remained unchanged, although third-party applications have now gained access to it. According to Tip Cook, there are over 1.3 million apps in the App Store to date. Last summer, at the Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in June, the company announced $ 1.2 million. Apps that were originally designed for a 4-inch screen continue to work, scaling to larger displays. At the same time, if desired, developers can optimize them for Retina HD and for "tablet" mode in the iPhone 6 Plus.
By the end of the year, new items will be sold in 115 countries. In some of them, pre-orders open this Friday, September 12, and shipments begin next week, on the 19th. In the US, the cost of the iPhone 5S has dropped to $ 99, and the 8-gig 5C model in a plastic case is now given away for free with the conclusion of a two-year contract with the operator.
The Russian online store Apple will start accepting orders for new iPhones on September 26. Both models will be available in three colors: Silver, Gold and Space Gray.
The cost of the iPhone 6 with 16 GB of memory will be 31,990 rubles, with 64 GB - 36,990 rubles, with a 128-gigabyte drive - 41,990 rubles.
The phablet iPhone 6 Plus will be sold for 36,990 rubles (16 GB), 41,990 rubles (64 GB) and 46,990 rubles (128 GB).
The new iPhones will be equipped with the iOS 8. Operating system will be available for download on other i-devices in a week, on September 17th. The eight can be installed on the iPhone (from 4S), on all iPad models (except the first) and on the first generation iPod touch player.

* Please visit the website to find the model number of your iPhone. For details on LTE support, contact your carrier or visit www.apple.com/iphone/LTE. Cellular technology support varies depending on iPhone model number and configuration for CDMA or GSM networks.
- The amount of available space is less than stated and depends on various factors. Standard configuration (including iOS and built-in apps) is approximately 8 to 11 GB depending on model and settings. The preinstalled apps take up about 4 GB; they can be deleted and reloaded.
- Dimensions and weight vary by configuration and manufacturing process.
- FaceTime communication requires both users to have FaceTime-enabled devices and a Wi-Fi connection. FaceTime availability over a cellular network is carrier-dependent; data transfer charges may apply.
- Siri voice assistant may not be available in all languages or in all regions. Siri's capabilities may also vary. Internet access required. Cellular data charges may apply.
- All battery specifications are subject to network settings and other factors; actual running time may not be the same. The battery allows a limited number of charging cycles. Over time, the battery may need to be replaced by an Apple Authorized Service Provider. After all, Apple has a secret department that adds a bit of magic to the box with every new product. It would seem a year-old design, plastic antenna strips, a protruding camera, low screen resolution and a whole bunch of dubious software and hardware limitations ... But here's a pink color, a high-tech screen, improved cameras - and you hold a new smartphone in your hands and think: “Wow! "
As it usually happens in the second year, the iPhone with the "es" prefix has practically not changed. The box and the delivery set are usual, except that now a spectacular "live" picture with a fish flaunts on the screen of a drawn smartphone. Inside, the traditionally mediocre EarPods, Lightning cable, charger and a small stack of carefully folded waste paper are nothing new. It would be quite boring if we had a gray, gold or silver smartphone. Fortunately, six es are pink.
In terms of color, pink metal looks great. As well as with the golden model, suspicions about the dubious appearance of the device turned out to be unfounded. The noble piglet shade will surely appeal to girls more, but in men's hands the "sixth esc" will look appropriate. However, not in everyone. The owner of a pink iPhone should be confident enough in himself and pay attention to his appearance so as not to look like he took the smartphone from his girlfriend and is very shy about this event in his life.
The main change in the new iPhones is 3D Touch screen technology. At the presentation, Apple announced that with the advent of pressure recognition by importance, it can be put on a par with multitouch in the first generation iPhone. Now, normal screen touches and slightly stronger presses are responsible for different actions, both in standard applications and in third-party programs.
Context menu when clicking on the application icon. For example, before launching the Camera app, you can select a selfie, photo, or video, and Instagram can be launched from the screenshot upload, activity feed, search, or private messages screens.
- Content preview. For example, in the Photos, Instagram, Safari applications, you can use a strong press to view the content in a pop-up window, and if you press even more, open it in full screen.
- Content recognition. For example, you can save phone numbers from messages or quickly add appointments to Calendar.
3D Touch allows you to save a little time when performing familiar activities, but it takes some getting used to. It is important to note that even for Apple Watch owners with Force Touch technology, touching pressure on the iPhone 6s will require training. If the watch has only one degree of pressure, then the smartphone has more. In addition, there is always a chance, instead of launching the context menu on the icon, to activate the home screen editing mode or to press too hard to preview the content and expand the pop-up window to full screen. By the way, I would like to throw a small stone into Apple's garden for the location of the 3D Touch settings. They are located in the Accessibility section and allow you to change the sensitivity of pressure recognition. But who would guess to look for settings in this section?
Speaking about iOS 9, it should be said that the operating system for the iPhone 6s practically does not differ from the version for the iPhone 6. All changes are related only to the 3D Touch technology: “live” wallpapers, “live” photos in the Camera application, context menus with strong pressure and the ability to strong pressure on the left side of the screen to switch between running applications. As for the performance of the device - as always, there are no complaints about this. The new A9 processor and 2GB of RAM ensure smooth operation of the interface, excellent performance in heavy applications and games. However, the power of mobile devices has now reached a level where the increase is practically not felt compared to the previous generation - the times when there was a colossal difference between smartphones are in the past. But the battery life, as always, leaves much to be desired. The iPhone 6s has a slightly smaller battery, but due to the optimization of hardware and software, owners can count on the same battery life. I would like all the same longer.
As for the camera, on the front side of the device there is now a 5 megapixel module without autofocus, on the back there is a 12 megapixel module with two-tone flash, as well as optical stabilization of photos and videos in the iPhone 6s Plus. Since such a fashion for selfies has gone, I'll start with the first one. Now, finally, the owners of Apple smartphones will not be so ashamed to post self-portraits on Instagram. Sharpness, contrast and detail of photos taken with the front camera have noticeably increased. Even if this module does not match some competitors in terms of technical characteristics, the pictures are good. Separately, it should be said about a kind of flash for the front camera - in low light at the time of shooting, the screen turns white, yellow or flesh-colored, slightly illuminating the face and helping to more accurately select the white balance. The main camera also began to shoot better during the day, but in low light conditions it still loses ground to competitors such as the Samsung Galaxy S6. Let's just say, not the best camera on the market, but the easiest to use and most versatile.
