Level 0 cache (L0)

Some processors have L0 (level 0) cache, which can be accessed faster than L1, L2, L3, etc. The advantage of having such memory is not only higher performance, but also lower power consumption.

4KB + 4KB (kilobytes)
Level 1 cache (L1)

The cache memory is used by the processor to reduce the time it takes to access more frequently used data and instructions. L1 (Level 1) cache is small and is much faster than both system memory and other levels of cache. If the processor does not find the requested data in L1, it continues to look for it in the L2 cache. On some processors, this search is performed simultaneously in L1 and L2.

16 KB + 16 KB (kilobytes)
L2 cache

L2 (level 2) cache is slower than L1, but instead has a larger capacity, allowing more data to be cached. It, like L1, is much faster than system memory (RAM). If the processor does not find the requested data in L2, it continues to look for them in L3 cache memory (if available) or in RAM memory.

Positioning

If about three or four years ago someone told me that I would use an LG smartphone as the main one and this device would be completely satisfactory to me, I would probably be very surprised. A company that at that time produced models that were often secondary after Samsung, or experimental devices (almost always unsuccessful) like LG Optimus 3D or LG Optimus Vu, as it seemed to me, will be doomed for many years to at least try to catch up with Samsung, which is gaining momentum, or Sony and HTC were equally successful at the time. Of course, LG had gaps in the form of successful smartphones: Optimus 2X, Black, budget Optimus One, a series of low-cost L-Series models, but individual successes did not lead to a general change in the situation. It seems that I wrote about the same thing before starting the LG G2 review, but it is worth recalling, because not every day we come across an example of a company, hard work and through many mistakes and unsuccessful decisions that finally found itself, or, it would be more correct to say , which began to find itself in this highly competitive market.

Last year's flagship, LG G2, became a real revelation for me (and for many users around the world) - a successful design (it was not there, but the thinnest frames alone allowed the "Korean" to forgive a lot), excellent characteristics and thought out to the smallest detail a shell that did not even have its own name, so in LG, apparently, modest developers. The smartphone was not without its drawbacks, but against the background of the overall balance of characteristics and interface, they simply did not want to be noticed, and they did not seem too serious. The new LG G3 successfully copies the basic ideas of the G2 - to create, perhaps, not the most beautiful and amazing smartphone with some individual parameters, but to make a very balanced device, equally suitable for a variety of users. The company really did come up with a successful device, although not without drawbacks. I will try to tell you about all the strengths and weaknesses of the new flagship LG G3 in this review. Go!

Design, body materials

If we talk about design as something bright, memorable and interesting, then in my opinion there is practically no design in LG G3. In addition to the battery cover, which has been played like metal, the smartphone has no interesting details, but I cannot say that this is bad. It's bad when a device with a completely absent design is also impractical, but this is not the case with the LG G3. Yes, a smartphone can be blamed for its dull appearance. Yes, many have already noted the strange strip with the LG logo under the screen, painted in light colors. If it were made black, to match the color of the rest of the front surface, the device would look more harmonious for my taste. But with all this, the LG G3 is not a freak, at most it simply will not cause you any emotions, either negative or positive.

Removable battery cover is the main and only feature of the smartphone. On sale LG G3 is available in five colors, and each of them is painted in a certain color exactly the lid, as well as the strip I mentioned above under the screen. The official color names are Metallic Black, Silk White, Shiny Gold, Moon Purple, and Burgundy Red. If translated into a more understandable (at least for a man) language, we get: dark gray, white, golden, pink and light purple.

We must pay tribute to LG designers - the colors for the smartphone are not beaten, if you look at the pink, purple and gold G3, interesting and rare shades are taken. The only thing I want to draw your attention to is that smartphones look slightly different in press photos than in reality. For example, the first from the left is the LG G3 (black) in the picture above, you can see in the pictures in this review, the color difference is obvious. Therefore, before buying an LG G3 of any color you like via the Internet with delivery, I still recommend that you look at the device of this particular color live.

The use of plastic (again) in the flagship is a usual thing for the Korean company, but LG is trying to add variety to the process. So, in G3, the battery cover is plastic, but made "like metal". To do this, a special film with a metallized texture (in mold layer) is applied over the plastic, it is fused into the plastic so that it will not be possible to tear it off by accident. According to LG, the film is scratch and fingerprint resistant. For two weeks of using the smartphone, I have not really managed to "collect" any scratches on the cover. About soiled - it's true. The lid does not get dirty at all due to the textured surface, if any traces remain, they are invisible. But the main feature of the film, which LG is proud of, is its resemblance to a metal surface.

I can't say that LG G3 of any color under any angle and light is perceived as a smartphone made of metal, but there is some truth in LG's words that the lid is very reminiscent of metal. At a certain angle, when light falls on the body, the "back" really looks like metal.

Assembly

Despite the collapsible design (removable cover, removable battery), the LG G3 is well assembled. The lid "sits" on the case with the help of fourteen grooves and does not play at all, does not wobble. The block with three keys is also excellent. Separately, I would like to note the complete absence of gaps between the protective glass of the screen and the edges of the smartphone. Some flagships have such a gap between these elements, and dust gets clogged there, LG G3 is devoid of this drawback.

Dimensions

Oddly enough, the LG G3 has thicker bezels than its predecessor, the G2. Overall, the G3 is noticeably larger than the G2: the smartphone is wider, taller, and even thicker than last year's model. Amazing? Not at all, almost all manufacturers today are striving to increase the screen diagonal in their flagships, and, as a result, the size of devices is increasing.

For a smartphone with a 5.5 "" screen, the new LG G3 still seems "quite wow", if you allow me that wording. To estimate the dimensions of the LG G3, I suggest you take a look at the list with the dimensions of the current flagships:

 • Apple iPhone 5S - 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm, 112 grams
 • HTC One (M8) (5 "") - 146.4 x 70.6 x 9.4 mm, 160 grams
 • LG G3 (5.5 "") - 146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9 mm, 149 grams
 • Nokia Lumia 930 (5 "") - 137 x 71 x 9.8 mm, 167 grams
 • Samsung Galaxy S5 (5.1 "") - 142 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm, 145 grams
 • Sony Xperia Z2 (5.2 "") - 146.8 x 73.3 x 8.2 mm, 163 grams

As you can see, LG G3 is larger than the rest of the phones only in terms of body width, while the model is far from being the largest in terms of height, thickness and even weight. And this is taking into account the maximum 5.5 "" screen diagonal among the flagships presented in the list. Of course, it is the large width of the case that primarily affects the usability of the smartphone, but LG engineers and developers have tried to smooth out the dimensions of the device as much as possible using several software solutions. For example, you can change the layout of the keys on the touchpad at the bottom so that you don't have to reach for frequently used buttons. For example, I most often need the Back button, but on my favorite in many ways HTC One (M8) it is on the left, despite the fact that I am right-handed and it is uncomfortable for me to reach for this button every time holding the device with my right hand. In the LG G3, I just moved the Back button to the right and I don't have to reach for it.

You can add keys to the touch panel and remove unnecessary ones. For example, I added a button for calling the notification curtain, and I no longer need to reach with my finger to the upper area of the screen (which is difficult to do on a 5.5-inch device if your hands are not like Alexander's @Alex_Shvarz , eg).

Such little things, albeit not completely, but still smooth out the "spade-like" smartphone and make it a little more comfortable to work with. However, you shouldn't have any illusions about the general convenience of working with the LG G3 - this is a classic shovel, huge and merciless towards users who have never held anything larger than a device with a 3.5 "" or even 4 "" screen.

Compared to HTC One (M8)

Compared to LG G2

It is possible to carry the smartphone in the pockets of trousers or jeans, but it is not always convenient because of its tangible width. In the summer, if you like to walk in shorts, wearing the LG G3 is probably better in a bag / backpack or somewhere else.

Control elements

Like LG G2, the new flagship is completely devoid of hardware keys on the front panel, as well as ends. Three smartphone buttons are located on the back of the device in the upper area, near the main camera. At first, this arrangement of keys seems inconvenient, but it is worth using the LG G3 for just a few days, and you just get used to the buttons, you start using them at the reflex level.

In addition, the LG G3 has a convenient screen unlock system - double tap on the display surface. At the same time, the system works, in my opinion, perfectly. If in LG G2 it was possible to knock on the screen before it reacts and unlocks the device, here unlocking occurs instantly after two short taps on any area of the display.

There is also a KnockCode unlocking system. In a square of four fields, you need to touch each field in a certain order; to unlock the device, you need to perform this procedure twice in any area of the display. This method is convenient in that it does not require you to enter numbers (they can be seen by someone else besides you during the input process), but it also protects the device from random people.

The volume keys on the LG G3 are assigned standby actions. If you hold the volume down button for a couple of seconds in a state when the screen is off and the smartphone is locked, the camera will start, and if the volume up button is in handwritten notes. Unfortunately, you cannot assign other actions to pressing these keys in standby mode.

I have already talked about some of the possibilities of the on-screen keys in the panel located at the bottom of the screen, you just need to add that you can change the graphic style of the panel and its color. You can also set to hide the panel with keys for specific applications.

The gesture system is not a distinctive feature of the LG G3, it is also present in some smartphones from other manufacturers, but together with the previous "chips" it well expands the possibilities for setting up a smartphone control for you personally. The handset has the following gestures:

 • Automatically answer a call when you bring your smartphone to your ear (even if a Bluetooth headset is connected to the device)
 • Muting the ringtone volume when you lift the smartphone from the surface of a table, shelf or something else
 • Switch to silent mode during an incoming call when you flip your smartphone
 • Stop the alarm or turn it on again when you flip your smartphone
 • Pause video playback when you flip your smartphone

And briefly about the location of the connectors. At the top there is an infrared port and an additional microphone. At the bottom there is a microUSB connector, a 3.5 mm mini-jack for headphones and a main microphone. The speaker, camera, as well as the volume and power keys are located on the "back" of the device.

On the front side, in the upper part, there is an earpiece, light and proximity sensors, as well as a light indicator and a 2.1 MP front camera (not wide-angle).

The indicator light in the G3 can be turned on or off for several types of events: incoming calls, missed calls and messages, charging, newly downloaded applications.

On the controls, a small conclusion is needed, in my opinion. The fact is that LG was one of the first, back in G2, to make not fashionable or “trendy” software solutions, but really useful ones for a device with a large screen. And in the LG G3, this idea has received a worthy development. The ability to unlock the screen with tapom that works like a clock, the ability to change the location of the keys on the touch panel on the screen, delete unnecessary ones and add important ones for you, the ability to hide this panel in some programs - all these small details make working with LG G3 comfortable, even if you think that it is simply impossible to use a device with such a large display.

The LG G3 has a 5.5 "" screen, physical dimensions 121x68, uses an IPS-matrix (True HD-IPS +). Display resolution - 2560x1440 pixels (534 ppi). Yes, the LG G3 is one of the first smartphones with such a huge screen resolution. By the way, my 27 "" home computer monitor, on which I am writing this review, has exactly the same resolution - 2560x1440. LG notes the difference between FullHD screens and the new QuadHD as follows: 1920x1080 and similar values are the print quality in a glossy magazine, that is, very high, while 2560x1440 is the print quality of a collectible art album, for example. However, I will not deceive anyone, first of all, myself, and I will honestly say that the difference in resolution between the screens of LG G3 and HTC One (M8), for example, I do not see at all.

Although it is certainly impossible to say something negative when looking at the screen in the LG G3. The display has a large margin of brightness, the viewing angles are maximum, even if you tilt the screen diagonally, there will be absolutely no picture distortions in color or brightness. The automatic screen backlight sometimes works to save battery power, that is, it sets the backlight level below the one you want to see, but during the day its work is quite correct. I especially want to emphasize the balanced color temperature of the screen, in my opinion, in this regard, the display in the LG G3 is simply a reference, moderately bright, contrasting, but, at the same time, calm in color reproduction, so that even with prolonged use of the screen, the eyes do not get tired. It may seem a little pale to some, but this is a feature of the "flat" interface, not the screen.

The screen is covered with Gorilla Glass 3 protective glass and has an oleophobic coating, so that few prints and marks that appear on the display can be easily removed.

Below you will find a block of comparative displays of HTC One (M8) and LG G3 (right / top):

Camera

The main camera of LG G3 is a module with a resolution of 13 MP, an optical stabilization system in two axes (OIS +), a laser focusing system and a flash, aperture f / 2.0.

Laser focusing is one of the most important and interesting parts of a smartphone camera. This type of focusing refers to the so-called. active, here are ultrasonic and infrared, for example. The sensor near the camera module for a short period of time sends many beams to the focusing object, then they are reflected and returned back, then the system counts the time it takes for the beams to travel the path, and based on this data, it makes accurate focusing. The advantage of this system is that it works at a very high speed - the LG G3 focuses on the scene literally in a matter of moments, even if it is a complex scene with many objects at different distances. In some situations, laser focusing does not work as accurately or correctly as you want, so the G3 also has an additional contrast focusing system.

In addition to taking photos, the smartphone allows you to record video in maximum quality, close to 4k (3840x2160 pixels), as well as video with an increased frame rate, up to 120 fps.

Briefly about the interface. There are two modes of its operation - with and without displaying settings. In the first case, the smartphone automatically focuses on the subject each time you move the viewfinder, shooting is carried out by pressing a button, you can manually focus on the object by tapping on the screen. In the second case, there are no elements and settings on the viewfinder, and shooting is carried out by clicking on any area of the screen, that is, the camera focuses at this second on the selected area and immediately takes a picture.

A little about the modes and the quality of the photos obtained in them.

Auto... The most common shooting mode with automatic settings, allows you to shoot, morning, afternoon, evening and night, as well as macro and text. In short, in any incomprehensible situation, the easiest way is to shoot in Auto. In my opinion, the pictures in this mode on the LG G3 are very good even in cloudy weather.

Shooting in sunny weather:

Shooting in cloudy weather:

Shooting close-up subjects (macro):

There is no separate mode for shooting at night, so I used Auto. I can't say that I really like the result: noise, lack of clarity, blur, but if we take into account the fact that all frames were taken simply "hand-held", without preparation, a tripod or even trying to take a frame without breathing, the result is no longer seems so bad.

Shooting at night:

I will also give a few pictures for evaluation in different conditions:

Magic trick... A mode in which the camera instantly focuses at all possible distances, and then you can select any focus point in the finished frame. The same thing at the software level is in the Samsung Galaxy S5, the same at the hardware level, due to the use of the auxiliary camera, is in the HTC One (M8). But both of these devices, in my opinion, are inferior to LG G3 in terms of the quality of this function. In LG G3, focusing on different planes is most accurate and efficient.

Below is a clear example of this, taken in the magic frame focus mode with the subsequent selection of two different focus points.

There is also a panorama and double shooting mode, when in one frame there is an image from two cameras at once - the main one and the front one. Burst shooting is activated if you hold down the shutter button. The shooting speed is high, up to 99 frames can be taken at a time in burst mode.

I would also like to note the powerful photo editor built into the LG G3. In it, you can automatically enhance the image, as well as change it manually. Among others, cropping, image rotation and many filters are available. You can also change the brightness, contrast, saturation, shadows, color temperature of the entire image or selected areas. Moreover, the frame can have as many separate sections of the radius you choose, for each of which you are free to select separate settings. You can also change the sharpness of the frame and add one of the effects to it: vintage, drama, black and white, HDR effect, retrolux, frames, shift and tilt. Within each effect, dozens of options and settings for each are available.

Below is a series of photos in their original form (photos taken with the LG G3), as well as their edited version with the built-in photo editor.

Original Photo editor

Video... Now let's talk a little about video recording. The maximum recording quality is UltraHD (3840x2160 pixels), standard is FullHD (1920x1080), in addition to recording at 30 or 60 frames per second, there is recording at up to 120 fps. In video recording mode, tracking autofocus works, but in the current firmware version on the LG G3 it is too slow and inaccurate, in my opinion. I hope this point will be corrected in the future, because otherwise there are no complaints about the video quality, and the quality of the sound recorded from the video is commendable.

Autonomous work

The LG G3 has a removable 3000mAh Li-Ion battery. Despite the fact that the capacity has not increased compared to the LG G2, while the screen in the new G3 has become larger and with a higher resolution, the new flagship of the company is definitely not worse in terms of battery life than last year's model.

My LG G3 sample ran a full day on average, until evening or late at night. The load was as follows: an hour and a half of conversations, 10-20 text messages, Gmail, 3-4 hours of listening to music and about 1-2 hours of active use of mobile Internet (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, browser).

In the power settings, you can turn on the "power saving" mode when the charge level drops below 30 percent. In this mode, the brightness is reduced, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, vibration, auto-sync services and a light indicator are turned off.

Platform, memory

The smartphone is built on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 platform (MSM8974 (MSM8975AC) with a quad-core 2.5 GHz processor, the graphics subsystem (GPU) - Adreno 330. There are two versions of the smartphone, with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory, as well as 3 GB of RAM. and 32 GB built-in. The first model is available in Russia, in a 2/16 GB configuration. In addition to the built-in memory, there is a slot for a microSD memory card. The slot for a memory card, like a slot for a microSIM card, is under the battery cover.

Performance, tests

The overall speed of the LG G3 is excellent, despite the increased resolution and, at the same time, the platform is almost identical to the Snapdragon 800, the device runs smoothly, without lags or slowdowns. Of course, if you set yourself the goal of finding jams in flipping through screens or menu pages, this can be easily done. Launch all available programs, open 20-30 tabs in the browser, then go to the main screen and very quickly scroll the tables back and forth! With daily use, I did not notice any lags or brakes.

Just in case, I will give the test results in the Antutu (X) benchmark:

Interfaces

The smartphone works in GSM, HSDPA and LTE networks. Fourth generation networks are also supported for Russia. You can enable and disable wireless interfaces through settings or through the notification curtain. The set of switches in the "shutter" can be changed at will.

USB... To synchronize with a PC and transfer data, a complete microUSB cable is used. USB 2.0 interface. The standards USB-OTG and USB-Host are supported - you can connect a flash drive and other storage devices to a smartphone via an adapter, for example, a camera to transfer pictures from it to the device's memory.

Bluetooth... Built-in Bluetooth 4.0 module with support for A2DP and LE (low energy) profiles.

Wi-Fi (802.11а / ac / b / g / n)... The LG G3 uses a dual-band Wi-Fi module, this interface works flawlessly. Like any other modern Android smartphone, G3 supports the function of sharing mobile Internet via Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi router), as well as DLNA and Wi-Fi Direct standards.

NFC... The LG G3 has a standard interface for any Android flagship since 2013. It can be turned on and off in the settings, in the "Sharing and connection" menu.

Navigation

The LG G3 has support for GPS / A-GPS and Glonass, it takes a minimal amount of time to find satellites. The device is preinstalled with Google Maps and Google Navigation.

Keyboard

Like the LG G2, the new flagship has a proprietary keyboard with several interesting features. Firstly, there are several themes to choose from and standard vibration and key-touch sounds. Second, the system of auto-punctuation and capitalization in new sentences. Third, a good dictionary with word suggestions for input. Fourth, the keyboard can be shifted to the left or right edge of the screen for more convenient one-handed typing, as well as split in half when typing in landscape mode. And, of course, I can't help but mark a separate line for entering numbers.

But the most important feature for me personally is the ability to add two punctuation keys to the bottom area of the keyboard at will. It can be a period and a comma, exclamation and question marks, or a key to call all punctuation marks at once. Very convenient setting!

And one more thing - in LG G3 you can change the height of the keyboard, and with it, the size (height) of individual keys also changes. For some, a small keyboard is more suitable, while others, on the contrary, will pull it to the maximum.

Due to these little things and the overall high-quality performance, the keyboard in the LG G3 is, in my opinion, one of the most comfortable standard keyboards for Android smartphones.

Software features and software

The smartphone runs Android 4.4.2 with LG's proprietary interface. As far as I understand, the company decided not to come up with a name for its shell, but it gets prettier from smartphone to smartphone, and if in LG G2 it was of high quality in its capabilities, but, frankly, too colorful and ugly outwardly interface, then the situation has changed dramatically for the LG G3. The shell in LG G3 is not only very functional and thought out to the smallest detail, but also almost devoid of flaws, it is also pleasing to the eye. Conditional beauty in this case is expressed in the maximum simplicity of colors and shapes - the graphic design of the interface uses simple icons without unnecessary details, in a minimalist style, as well as a very calm color palette without unnecessary paints and wild color mixtures, so typical for Korean interfaces.

To tell the truth, using LG G3 for a while, I often caught myself thinking: "Is this really a basic interface?" This is not to say that the shell in the LG G3 is incredibly beautiful and stunning, but the work done in comparison with the G2 is amazing. If the interface lacked integrity in the LG G2, then here, in the G3, this is exactly what you notice at first glance - the interface is solid, thoughtful and made in the same style. And it pleases.

Now I will briefly talk about the most interesting features of the interface.

Phone, address book... The smartphone has a convenient dialer with the SmartDial function, you can find a contact without switching to the address book, but simply entering the first letters of the person's first or last name. However, there is also an address book, with search and sorting.

During an incoming or outgoing call, the caller's picture is displayed in the center of the screen in a round window. In my opinion, the subscriber's image could have been made larger. Two times.

Posts... The standard message window is represented by a list of contacts with whom you are in correspondence. Inside, everything is as usual - a message in chat format. For correspondence with individuals, you can choose the theme of the chat - a background image and graphics of "clouds" of correspondence. An interesting feature of messages is the ability to configure the sending of an already written message at a certain time of a certain day.

Desktop... A grid of icons on desktop screens, 5x5, also up to seven icons can be placed in the bottom panel. Various effects of flipping screens on the desktop are available. You can also change the appearance of application icons and their size.

Lock screen... The lock screen displays new notifications and the time in one line, and a number of shortcuts are available in the lower area for quick access to applications. The set of labels can be changed.

Many programs can be pulled out in a separate small window on top of the desktop. The size of such windows and transparency can be changed at your discretion. Also, the LG G3 has a dual window mode, where one program is displayed at the top of the screen and the other at the bottom.

Pre-installed software... The smartphone has a convenient file manager with the ability to view files by category or in a shared storage, search and sort by criteria.

A weather app with animated graphics if not launched as a widget.

Calculator, voice recorder, radio - all these programs are made in the same graphic style as the rest of the interface.

QuickMemo + lets you create text notes or handwritten notes.

One of the "finds" of the LG G3 interface is a clock and weather widget with a Smart Notice notification panel attached to it. The idea is simple - in the form of short notifications to remind the user of important things: changing weather, calendar events, missed notifications, and so on. True, while the Smart Notice functionality is limited to literally several types of notifications (weather and new events), but if this set is expanded with new versions of the widget, Smart Notice will turn out to be interesting, in my opinion.

The LG G3 has a service called LG Health, which calculates the distance traveled, the number of steps and the calories burned.

LG QuickCircle

Branded case with a "porthole" window on the lid. The back of the cover is made of corrugated plastic, the cover is made of a material resembling leather, most likely also plastic. The lid is lined with soft material from the inside. There are five colors to choose from: black, white, gold, blue and pink, as well as two versions of the case, with and without wireless charging (QI) support. The case with QI is installed instead of the original cover of the smartphone, while the version without QI is installed on top of the original one.

The edging of the window is a thin ring made of translucent plastic; when the screen is activated, it illuminates for several seconds. The window displays the current time, you can also choose a time display widget with weather. There are nine widgets with different clocks to choose from. You can also display in this window mini-player, the number of steps taken, calls and messages. Not all messages are available, but only new, unread messages, as for calls, you can view recent calls through QuickCircle, as well as make calls. And the last, with the help of the window, without opening the lid, you can take photographs.

Conclusion

I had no complaints about the quality of signal reception after three weeks of using the LG G3. The volume of the ringing loudspeaker is slightly above average, despite the fact that one loudspeaker is used (as opposed to two in the HTC One M8, for example), in most situations it is heard well if the volume is set to maximum. The volume of the earpiece is also at a good level, there is a small volume margin for conversations in noisy rooms. The vibrating alert is average in strength.

The official cost of the LG G3 16 GB in Russia is 30,000 rubles (29,990), if you wish, you can look for gray supplies, but there the price will not be much lower. The 3/32 GB version for Russia has not yet been announced, but this does not mean that it will not be available. It is quite possible that in the future this variant of the G3 will also go on sale with us. Yes, the price tag of 30,000 rubles will scare off many, you can also complain about the fact that LG used to set prices for its flagships a little lower than those of competitors. However, before LG acted in the role of catch-up, with the LG G2 this situation began to change, and with the LG G3 changed completely. For the price of any current flagship, you get not just a top-end smartphone, but a device with virtually no compromises.

First, the company was able to pack excellent hardware and a 5.5 "screen into a case comparable in size to a 5" case. Secondly, LG took into account the mistakes of the lurid interface of the previous model and, I do not know for sure, according to recommendations intended for Android L or by themselves, made the interface in the new G3 neat, simple and unified. Thirdly, the interface itself continues to be improved, as well as individual components of the smartphone, such as the camera. Yes, there are downsides to the LG G3. In my opinion, this is a plastic case, albeit stylized as metal, and a panel painted in the color of the "back" on the front side, it spoils the appearance of the device, as it seems to me. Add to this the lack of moisture protection and probably something else, but honestly, I can't remember what. And this is precisely the indicator of a balanced device, when it is simply impossible to name at least a couple of any serious shortcomings right off the bat. Price? Like the rest of the flagships. Dimensions? Comparable to HTC One (M8), Sony Xperia Z2 and Samsung Galaxy S5. Performance? At the same level.

As a result, we got an almost perfect flagship among smartphones in 2014 in the LG G3. Yes, the company had a head start, they released the device later than other manufacturers, but LG was able to realize this advantage exactly as expected. The new LG G3 turned out to be thoughtful and well-thought-out, so if you are thinking about buying a top-end Android device, you should look towards this model first of all, even if you did not know before that “LG also makes smartphones”.

A few years ago, when Android smartphones stepped out of the shadows and began to show clear growth in the market, literally every manufacturer entered the world stage with a stunning flagship designed to sweep all opponents out of their way. Unfortunately, a flagship smartphone is an expensive thing, often too large, not suitable for everyone, therefore, manufacturers, in addition to the main model, began to release their compact versions. Samsung, HTC and other companies produced small gadgets that were visually similar to flagships, but technically significantly inferior to them. LG was no exception, and to reinforce interest in their devices, following the LG G3, they launched the LG G3 s D724 - an ultra-budget, but stylish and technological gadget. The name of the smartphone raises a number of questions. Firstly, the article S evokes associations with the iPhone, where the prefix S stands for an improved version of the phone, and not vice versa. Secondly, LG already has the LG G3 Stylus, a massive stylus-capable device. Nevertheless, the Koreans were not at all embarrassed by these facts.

So, why is this smartphone so remarkable and should we consider it as the main one?

Equipment

In the box you can find:

 • The gadget itself is LG G3 s D724.
 • Accumulator battery.
 • Micro-USB cable for mains power and data synchronization with a computer.
 • Warranty card.

Case design and controls

 • Dimensions: 137x69.6x10.3.
 • Weight: 134 grams.

Visually, the device strongly resembles its older brother. The phone has a rectangular shape with slight curves at the top and bottom (in the manner of the same Nexus, which was created by LG exclusively for Google). The body is made of plastic. A special grinding technology made it possible to give the device a more expensive look - externally (from a distance) the material resembles metal. Unfortunately, this does not affect the tactile sensations in any way - ordinary plastic. The back cover of the device is convex, curved (this way the phone fits better in the hand), rough to the touch, which is why the device holds on more tightly and does not try to jump out of the hand. It is almost impossible to see fingerprints and small scratches on the plastic cover, which is undoubtedly a plus for an inexpensive gadget. Smaller dimensions compared to the older model also played an important role in ergonomics: the phone is easy to grip on both sides. The assembly of the device is at a fairly high level, there are no creaks or backlash, all parts are fitted to each other without gaps, despite the fact that the case is not monolithic.

Almost the entire front panel of the device is occupied by the display, except for a small plastic insert with the company logo at the bottom of the case. On the top edge of the phone is a microphone, on the bottom there is another microphone, a USB port and a headphone jack. The side faces are empty. On the back are: camera, flash, microphone, as well as speaker and basic controls. All keys are located on a small remote in the center of the lid, including the volume rocker. A very specific solution that not many people liked. The SIM card slot and the memory card are hidden under the cover, which is removable in the device.

Communications

Everything here is pretty average. Users get:

 • Support for two SIM cards (standard for 90% of modern Android smartphones).
 • USB 2.0.
 • Bluetooth 4.0.
 • Wi-Fi of the B / N / G standard.
 • Hotspot distribution function.
 • Radio module (regular FM radio, no network connection).
 • Infrared port for TV control.
 • Supported by GPS and GLONASS (more than 6 satellites).

In general, everything is not bad, but there is only one antenna in the gadget, and if one of the SIM cards works in third-generation networks, the second automatically switches to the second. If you have USB 2.0, there is no support for On The Go cables, which means that you will not be able to connect a keyboard or gamepad to your smartphone. NFC is also missing.

Display

Unlike the "adult model", a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels was installed here. The display came out pretty good despite the HD resolution. Stand-alone pixels are barely noticeable, even with a fair amount of effort to detect them, and this at a PPI (pixels per inch) of 293 dots. The display is built on the basis of an IPS-matrix, which means that it reproduces the most believable and natural colors. The color rendition is pretty good, even, but despite the use of IPS technology, when the device is tilted, the display slightly changes the gamma, and the white balance suffers. Actually, from this we conclude that the viewing angles of the smartphone are far from the maximum, which distinguishes the display from the older model in the first place. The brightness will have to be adjusted manually, there is no light sensor in the smartphone, which is too dull even for a budget model.

Processor and memory

In terms of hardware, you shouldn't expect a miracle in a budget gadget. Phone LG G3, the price of which is less than the average, is no exception and cannot boast of powerful characteristics, therefore, it is worth putting up with what is. The heart of the gadget is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip. The processor has 4 cores on board, each accelerating to 1200 MHz. This is enough for the smooth operation of pure Android, but due to the fact that LG uses its own shell, the interface slows down a little. In fairness, it should be noted that the blame lies on the shoulders of the Korean developers, because they were the ones who could not optimize the software. The chip is manufactured using a 28-nanometer process technology, which has a positive effect on its energy efficiency, and this, in turn, affects the autonomy of the phone. The Adreno 304 is responsible for the graphics performance. The phone copes with almost all modern games, although the heavy ones slip from time to time. Fortunately, on Android, you can reduce the quality of graphics.

Complements the processor with 1 gigabyte of RAM. Even in 2014 it looks like real greed on the part of the manufacturer. This volume is not enough for comfortable work even with basic programs, every time the applications are restarted if you exit them. As for the built-in memory, here the manufacturer gave the owners of the gadget only 300 megabytes of free space and another 8 gigabyte memory card (they support cards up to 32 gigabytes).

Autonomy

The gadget is equipped with a removable 2540 mAh battery. The manufacturer promises up to 24 hours of talk time on a single charge and up to 720 hours of standby time. As a result of independent tests, the smartphone showed the following results:

 • Play HD video for 5 hours.
 • Music playback up to 35 hours.
 • In game mode (only games with complex 3D graphics) up to 3 hours.
 • When surfing Wi-Fi, the phone lasted about 12 hours.

Quite good indicators, and in real mode of use, the phone will easily survive until the evening, and the collapsible design will allow you to quickly replace a discharged battery with a charged one and get even more battery life without additional accessories.

Cameras

The phone is equipped with a front camera with a resolution of 8 megapixels and a front one with a resolution of 1.3 megapixels. There is a one-section flash. The main camera is not happy with the high quality of the picture. The image turns out to be "noisy" even in fairly good lighting, the white balance often lies and goes into excessively warm tones, the detail is weak, and small objects seem to crumble into pieces. The same problem plagues light sources in photographs. Most of these shortcomings are not due to the capabilities of the lens, but to poor quality software. It uses laser autofocus, which allows you to instantly focus on a specific subject, and also improves color reproduction in the dark. The camera can record images in Full HD resolution with a frame rate of 30 fps.

The camera for "selfie" is also not distinguished by something extraordinary, but for most users its capabilities will be enough. It may not be possible to take a beautiful photo of yourself, your loved one, but you can talk on Skype without any problems: the image does not freeze and does not crumble into pixels.

Software

The smartphone runs on Android 4.2.2. It makes no sense to talk about the platform itself, but it's worth talking about a number of features offered by LG.

 • Guest mode is like a second account in Windows. You do not need a password to access it, and the available application and data in it are regulated by the owner of the gadget.
 • Quick Memo is a small utility for taking notes and editing images. Suitable in those situations when you need to fill out a form and send it by mail or visually highlight some element in the picture.
 • QSlide is an unpopular add-on that allows you to display video content on top of the operating system interface. The problem is that for this feature to work it needs some intervention from the software developers.
 • Knock Mode is another unlocking method that hasn't caught on in the Android world. Allows you to unlock the LG G3 phone using a series of short taps.

- direct competitors of G3 are already being sold with might and main, and we, in turn, have already managed to study them in detail. "G-Three" has just been officially presented, and deliveries to stores should begin in late June or even early July. The approach is wise: the company's engineers have time to study the weaknesses of competitors and prevent the same mistakes in their product - a quarter-long time reserve allows you to do this. In addition, LG, like most other manufacturers, prefers to update the older model once a year - unlike, for example, Sony, which releases a new flagship every six months.

It is important to understand that LG engineers are not updating the device for "show" - they really fix the shortcomings of the predecessor, and we will mention this more than once during thorough testing. The G2 was good. Not even that: he was very good - no one expected that he would turn out like that. And LG G3, in turn, turned out to be even more interesting, and it was clear even from the announcement. Now that you are intrigued and impatient, you can start getting to know the successor to the G2.

⇡ Appearance and ergonomics

Do you know why the author of this material at one time refused to buy such a good and pleasant LG G2? The plastic, glossy and very easily soiled rear panel failed. As a whole, an adult device cannot leave what is called look & feel. Inside, everything is great, but, whatever one may say, the smartphone has to be taken in hand - and it was at the very moment when the G2 was in the hands, a clear understanding came that the gadget was not perfect. The rear panel is probably the first thing on the list of changes from the designers of the G3.

Meet LG's new flagship - G3

The "back" here is still plastic, but with a much more pleasant surface finish. There is not even a trace of gloss left - the panel is embossed, textured, and feels almost like real metal to the touch. The main advantage of the material used is its excellent oleophobic properties. The smartphone does not lose its presentation, no matter how much the owner touches it. Fingerprints do not remain on the panel, but even if it gets a little dirty, you can literally clean it of dirt in one move.

LG G3 - official photo

The layout of the G3's controls is the same as that of its predecessor, not typical for Android smartphones. The physical power / lock and volume keys are located on the rear panel, under the lens of the main camera. The location for the amateur - it's good that the programmers have implemented the ability to turn on the device without pressing the appropriate key. It is called KnockCode, and we talked about it in a separate article. Recall that you can exit the "sleep" mode by tapping on the screen. The option is not new - it moved from G2. It is still better to put the smartphone in your pocket with the display facing you to avoid accidental pressing of the hardware keys.

LG G3 - back panel vs. LG G2 back (right)

The main area of the front panel is occupied by a new ultra-clear display with a diagonal of 5.46 inches. The bezels around it are still very thin, so the smartphone is much more compact than other models with screens of similar sizes. Despite the thin bezels, during operation of the device, erroneous touches of the display with the palm of your hand do not occur. There are no hardware keys on the front panel - all buttons are touch-sensitive, they are located directly on the display.

LG G3 - power and volume keys on the back

LG engineers failed to repeat the trick of magicians from Samsung, who increased the diagonal of the Galaxy Note 3 display, practically without changing its dimensions relative to its predecessor. The G3 feels a little more elongated compared to the G2, with an increase of eight millimeters in length. However, the device is quite convenient to use. Fortunately, the weight remained at an acceptable level - 149 grams against 143 for its predecessor, and the thickness has completely decreased - from 9.5 mm to 8.9 mm. Thanks to the smooth, streamlined shapes, the smartphone seems even slimmer than it actually is.

The SlimPort interface (micro-USB 2.0 + video output in one connector) and a universal audio jack for connecting a wired headset are placed on the bottom end. On the top is an infrared port. Two microphones, with the help of which the active noise cancellation system is implemented, are placed on vertical edges. A metal-styled edging runs along all ends of the case.

LG G3 - sides

The "back" of the device is removable. Under it is a 3000 mAh battery and slots for micro-SIM and microSD located above each other.

LG G3 without back panel

We have no complaints about the assembly and appearance of the device. The gadget looks strict and attractive - what the flagship needs. During testing, we did not find any backlash, even when checking for curl and kink, we did not see anything embarrassing or suspicious.

LG G2 - last year's flagship manufacturer has become a real boon for many. In it, the company managed to combine stylish design, advanced features and a comfortable shell, which, oddly enough, has not received any name. Of course, there were negative aspects, but they were so insignificant that you simply do not notice them. While reviewing the LG G3 32gb dual, we noticed that the new flagship has all the advantages of the previous model, but its capabilities have been greatly improved. The manufacturer managed to create an optimal device that can meet the needs of a wide variety of users. We recommend reading the LG G3 d724 review and specifications to find out about all the advantages and disadvantages of the new model.

We have the following scope of delivery: documentation, charger, microUSB-cable and the device itself.

LG G3 design

In our opinion, the design of the device turned out to be very standard, it does not have any bright features that attract attention and delight. The only advantage is the metal-style back cover. Despite the banality of the design, the device lies perfectly in the hand. A smartphone cannot be called a freak, but it does not cause any emotions either. Quite a standard gadget, but its main advantages lie inside. During the review and specifications of the LG G3 d855, we drew attention to the variety of colors of the back cover. It can be made in matte black, silk white, pink, as well as golden and light purple. As you can see, rare and very bright shades were chosen for the smartphone.

It is already customary for the manufacturer to use plastic to create flagship models, but the brand's specialists are trying to introduce at least some variety. To make the plastic in its appearance resemble metal, a special film with a metallizing structure is glued to its surface. You will not be able to accidentally tear it off, as it is fused into the plastic. The LG G3 d 722 dual lte smartphone review showed that the film does not collect scratches and fingerprints due to its special structure. The lid really looks like a metal one, especially when you look at it from a certain angle.

Build quality LG G3

The manufacturer, unlike most competitors, has installed a removable cover and a battery, but despite this, there is no backlash. The build quality is really top notch. The block with three buttons for controlling the device is made perfectly, there are no complaints about it. Another positive side we would call the absence of a frame between the protective glass and the ends of the phone. Some flagship models have such a gap and collect a lot of dust.

Body dimensions

Contrary to all expectations, the bezels of the LG G3 are even thicker than in the previous model. The new model has turned out to be larger in all respects: taller, wider and thicker. Although now this is not at all surprising, because recently manufacturers have begun to offer devices with a large display in their assortment, and therefore the parameters of the case are also increasing. The rather large dimensions of the device do not affect the comfort of its use. For this, the manufacturer offers interesting software solutions. As an example, you can customize the order of the keys on the bottom touchpad so you don't have to reach for frequently used keys.

Control elements

The main feature of the flagship is the complete absence of keys on the front panel, as well as on the side ends. Three control buttons are installed on the back of the device in the camera area. Initially, the original arrangement of the keys causes inconvenience, but gradually you get used to it. Smartphone LG G3 specifications and price matched perfectly, thanks to which the manufacturer is rapidly increasing its position in the world market.

At the top there is an IrDA port, with which you can control home appliances. Nearby there was a place for an additional microphone.

At the bottom we found a microUSB connector, a headset jack and a main microphone.

The main camera, speaker and control keys are located on the back.

At the top of the front panel there is an earpiece, a light sensor, as well as proximity, an indicator of missed events and a 2.1 megapixel camera lens. The indicator light is capable of displaying several types of events: new messages, system notifications, missed calls and the need to connect to a charger.

Display

Display LG G3 has a diagonal of 5.5 inches. This is a popular format today, in which it is convenient to use the multimedia capabilities of the device. This is one of the first devices with a screen resolution of 2560x1440 pixels. Of course, it will be impossible to see the pixels on such a display. The benefits of the screen don't end there. It has an excellent margin of brightness, which is sufficient even when used in bright sunlight, the viewing angles are ideal.

The picture does not lose the saturation of the hue, even if you tilt the display diagonally. The auto-backlight works quite correctly, but sometimes it works to save energy. In this regard, the brightness level may not be observed as you wish to see. In our opinion, the screen turned out to be just perfect in all respects. On the one hand, it is bright and saturated, but on the other hand, it has a balanced color temperature, so that the eyes do not get tired of prolonged use of the gadget. The LG G3 has very good specs and makes it one of the best flagships of the company.

The display is protected by a protective Gorilla Glass 3 with an oleophobic coating. There are practically no prints left on the screen, but they are also deleted in an instant.

Cameras LG G3

The resolution of the main camera module is 13 megapixels. It is equipped with a two-axis optical stabilization system, laser focusing, and a flash. We were most interested in laser focusing, which works very quickly and accurately. The sensor works in the following way: in a minimum period of time, a large number of rays are sent to the focusing object. Once guided, they are reflected and fed back, after which the system calculates the time it takes for the beams to complete the route. Thus, high pointing accuracy is achieved. The LG G3 camera also has an additional contrast focusing system.

The camera interface looks like this:

The smartphone supports video recording in high quality, as close as possible to 4K (3840x2160 pixels). The next feature is the increased frame rate during shooting - up to 120 fps.

The interface is pretty basic, with one exception. There are two shooting modes - with and without display settings. In the first mode, the device automatically aims at the subject of shooting with each movement of the viewfinder, and shooting is carried out by pressing a key. Manual focus can be performed by tapping on an object in the display. There is also a mode without settings, in which shooting is possible by pressing any point on the display. The camera instantly focuses on the selected area and takes a good picture.

If you are a beginner, it is better to shoot in automatic mode. Then the device will automatically select the optimal parameters depending on the shooting conditions. Pictures in this mode are decent even in low light.

Autonomy LG G3

LG G3 s d724 specifications provide for the use of a battery with a declared capacity of 3000 mAh. The capacity remains unchanged compared to the previous model, while the display is larger, as well as its resolution. Fortunately, the autonomy has remained at a decent level and is not inferior to its predecessor. With average use (several hours of music and surfing the Internet, a couple of hours of calls and text messages), the gadget lasts for a day. In emergencies, you can use the proprietary energy-saving mode, which can be activated when the charge level is less than 30%. When activated, the brightness is reduced and the indicator light, vibration, wireless connections are turned off and the services are automatically synchronized.

Specifications LG G3

Specifications LG G3 are very good, because the device is built on the best platform at the time of release Qualcomm Snapdragon 801. It is a 4-core processor with a frequency of 2.5 GHz. The video accelerator Adreno 330 is responsible for the graphics in games. There are two versions of the model on sale - with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of built-in, as well as 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of built-in. If the built-in memory is not enough for you, then the possibility of installing a memory card is supported.

Performance, test result LG G3

The interface and apps work great, and we didn't find any lags during our testing.

Test result in Antutu (X):

GeekBench 3:

Interface

As a standard, the device is preinstalled with the Android 4.4.2 system with a proprietary shell from the manufacturer. With each new model, the shell becomes more comfortable and functional, but it never got its name, although it definitely deserves it. The shell looks amazing. It is thought out to the smallest detail, and its main advantage is the simplicity of colors and shapes. The interface contains icons without unnecessary details, made in a minimalist style, which is combined with a calm color scheme. If the interface lacked integrity in G2, then everything is fine. The interface is made in the same style, which pleases the eye.

Sound LG G3

The earpiece speaker is simply gorgeous. During a conversation, you can clearly hear the interlocutor, as well as you. The speaker volume is sufficient with a large margin, although there is only one. The volume of the conversational and multimedia speaker is sufficient for comfortable use of the device even in noisy rooms and on the street.

Output

On the Aliexpress website LG G3 with 16 GB of internal memory 2 GB of RAM can be purchased at a price of 9,000 rubles. You can also order a more advanced version if you plan to use the device to its fullest. For this price, it will be difficult to find a more worthy option. The manufacturer has equipped the device with a high-quality display with a high resolution, good cameras, a user-friendly interface and a powerful filling.
