The wai file is distributed but the internet does not work. We distributed Wi-Fi from the laptop, and the Internet does not work "Without Internet access

A lot of comments, and questions are collected articles on setting up distribution of Wi-Fi from laptops. When the Internet is connected to the laptop, we start the distribution of the Internet via Wi-Fi in Windows and connect our devices to it: phones, tablets, and other laptops. The laptop at us replaces the Wi-Fi router. You can start Wi-Fi distribution in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10. In Windows XP, there is no such possibility.

I've already prepared instructions for configuring the hotspot on Windows 10 (using the command line, or the Switch Virtual Router program)   and in Windows 7. See these articles:

So, many get it's easy to start distributing Wi-Fi. But, there are cases when after configuring the distribution of Wi-Fi on the laptop, the network itself appears, the devices are connected to it, and the Internet does not work. On phones and tablets, simply do not open pages in the browser, and programs that need Internet access do not work. If you connect other computers via Wi-Fi to your laptop, then if you see such a problem, Windows will have the Internet connection status "Without Internet access". Or, limited if you have Windows 8, or Windows 10.

The problem is clear:   Wi-Fi network laptop distributes, devices connect to it, and the Internet does not work, "Without access to the Internet." Now we will try to figure out why such a problem may arise, and we will try to solve it. We will consider the case when the network is created, but there is no Internet access. Simply there is still a problem when the virtual Wi-Fi network on the laptop does not start at all, but this is a topic for another article.

Why does not the Internet work on Wi-Fi when distributed from a laptop?

Let's start with the most popular reason, because of which the Internet, the distribution of which is configured in Windows, may not work.

1 We open the Internet.   In every article on setting up a hotspot, I wrote about a very important point - the opening of Internet access for a running Wi-Fi network. It is because of the settings of the public access, most often the Internet does not work. The created network appears, we connect to it without any problems, but the connection through which your laptop is connected to the Internet does not allow you to use the Internet connection.

Therefore, in the properties of your Internet connection (most likely, this is a normal connection over a network cable, or via a 3G / 4G modem), you need to allow Internet sharing for the connection we created. In the articles, the links to which I gave above, this information is. But, let's once again understand how to open up the Internet. As in Windows 7, and in Windows 10, this is done approximately the same. I'll show you an example of Windows 7.

Click on the Internet connection icon with the right mouse button, and select the Network and Sharing Center.

We open Change adapter settings.

Right-click on the adapter through which your laptop is connected to the Internet. We choose Properties.

Go to the Access tab, check the box next to the "Allow other network users to use the Internet connection of this computer"   and select the network we created from the list. Most likely, it will have the name " Wireless Network Connection"with some figure at the end. Ok.

After these actions, the Internet should earn. If it does not work, then try again to restart the laptop, and start distributing Wi-Fi again.

2 Disable the antivirus and firewall.   Antiviruses very often block the connection of your device to the laptop. In such cases, an error such as "Could not connect" appears, the IP address is being received all the time, "or an endless connection to Wi-Fi.

But, it may be that because of the antivirus, or the installed firewall on your laptop, from which you distribute the Internet, you will not have access to the Internet. Therefore, you just need to try disabling the antivirus. For a while. You can disable only the built-in firewall. On different antiviruses, this is done in different ways.

3 Check if other devices are working.   It may be that the problem is not in the laptop that distributes the Internet, but in the device that you are trying to connect to the Internet. If possible, just take another device, and connect it to the network you created. Look, will there be access to the Internet.

If the problem occurs when you connect a laptop with Windows 7 installed, you can read the instructions on. If you have Windows 10, and the status is "Limited", then look.

4 Features of connection to the Internet. It is clear that to distribute the Internet from a laptop, it must be connected to the Internet. It is this connection that he distributes to your other devices. So, if there is no Internet access, then this may be due to the peculiarities of your Internet connection. Especially, it can be when connected via 3G / 4G modem.

I can not test the operation of a virtual Wi-Fi network, with different Internet connections. Therefore, if you can not turn your laptop into a Wi-Fi router, it can be because of the connection to the Internet.

6 Update:    in the comments Zhenya shared another solution that helped him fix the problem with the lack of Internet when distributing Wi-Fi from the computer.

On the "Access" tab, where we open the connection to the Internet connection, we need to click on the "Settings" button, and in the new window, tick the "DNS server".

Press Ok, and look at the result. The Internet on the devices that you connected to the laptop should appear. If not, try restarting the computer and starting the distribution again.

7 Update:    another tip from the comments. If your computer is in a home network, then try to exit it. This should help, and your laptop will start distributing the Internet to other devices.

If you solve this problem in some other way, then you can tell us about it in the comments, we will be grateful. Well, ask your questions, try to help!

8 Another solution, which Michael shared in the comments, and many helped this way.

We go to the devices of your internet connection (as I showed above in the article), and uncheck the box "Allow other network users to use ...". Click Ok. Next, open the properties of this connection again, and check the box next to "Allow other network users to use ..." and select our connection from the list (wireless network connection with a digit at the end). Click Ok. The Internet on the devices must earn.

Often there are times when the Wi-Fi network is working, the devices are connected, but the Internet does not work. In this article I will discuss how to solve this problem on Asus routers. If you have an Asus router that does not distribute the Internet over Wi-Fi, then this instruction should be useful to you. It seems to me that this problem is most often encountered during the first setup of the router. All configured, connected, Wi-Fi network appeared, devices are connected to it, but there is no access to the Internet.

If you connect a computer, then the connection status is likely to be a yellow exclamation mark, and the inscription "Without Internet access", and in Windows 8 and Windows 10 - "Restricted." And on smartphones and tablets, the Internet simply will not work. Pages in the browser will not open, etc. By the way, by cable, from the router Asus Internet is also unlikely to work. I think, a familiar situation.

We will consider two options for solving this problem:

  • When the problem appeared in the process of configuring the Asus router.
  • And when everything worked perfectly, the router distributed the Internet via Wi-Fi, and suddenly access to the Internet was lost.

There are just different reasons, and solutions. So it will be easier to understand.

Why does not the Asus router send Wi-Fi after configuration?

More precisely, Wi-Fi then it distributes, and the Internet does not work. Here it is very important to understand that the very existence of a wireless network, and connecting to it does not mean an Internet connection. The fact is that the router in any case, distributes Wi-Fi, as soon as we plug it into the outlet. But, that would be access to the Internet, this Internet need to connect to the router, and configure.

The cable from your Internet provider, or ADSL modem, must be connected to the WAN connector of the router. If you have an Internet connection via USB modem, then see the setup.

I think you connected everything correctly. And now, the most important moment - configure the router under your Internet provider. If the settings are incorrect, the Asus router can not connect to the Internet, and can not give it out.

In the settings, go to the tab the Internet. Choose the correct type of WAN connection, which is used by your ISP, and set the necessary parameters (which depend on the selected connection type). You need to clarify with the provider what type of connection it uses: Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE, L2TP, PPTP.

You also need to specify whether the provider does the MAC address binding. If does, then read the article.

The main task, choose the correct type of connection (WAN), and set the required parameters (if it is needed): password, user name, IP address. After these actions, the router will connect to the Internet, and be able to distribute it over the Wi-Fi network.

What to do if everything worked and suddenly the Internet disappeared via Wi-Fi

Many people ask why the router stopped distributing the Internet over Wi-Fi, if everything worked perfectly. In such cases, we do this:

  • First of all, we simply reboot the router and computer, phone, tablet, etc.
  • We need to make sure that there are no problems on the provider side. Well, you never know, maybe they have something with equipment, etc. You can just unplug the cable from the router, and connect it to the computer. So we will understand, on whose side of the problem. Also, make sure that you have paid for the Internet. You can call in support of the provider, and find out everything.
  • Check if the Internet is connected to the router (the network cable itself). Maybe it just jumped out of the WAN connector.
  • It would be good to make sure that our Asus does not distribute the Internet to all devices (if you can connect multiple devices).
  • Check the connection settings in the control panel of the router on the Internet tab. How to do it, I showed above. Perhaps the settings just flew.

If none of the tips helped, and you could not figure out why the Asus router stopped distributing the Internet over the Wi-Fi network, then describe your case in the comments. We will think over the solution together.

Well, very, very popular problem. If you have a laptop   (or a computer with a Wi-Fi adapter), and wired Internet is connected to it, you can save on buying a router, and distribute the Internet from your laptop to your mobile devices. This is not very convenient, and does not always work, but there is such an opportunity.

Of course, I would advise to buy a Wi-Fi router and not to torment your computer with the Hotspot setting. But, there are different cases, and very often, the opportunity to distribute the Internet from the laptop, excellent helps. In the configuration of the access point itself, nothing is complicated, but, there is one problem, very popular. When, when setting up, you are trying to connect to a Wi-Fi network created on a laptop, the device is connected, but the Internet does not work.

We have on the site, at the moment there are three detailed instructions for setting up Wi-Fi HotSpot. You can get acquainted with them:

You can look at the comments for each article. They almost always ask only one thing: a Wi-Fi network appears, phones, tablets, laptops, etc., successfully connect to it, but when you try to go online, nothing works. Sites do not open, programs that use the Internet also do not work.

The problem is understandable in principle, simply on the laptop there is no access to the Internet. More precisely, it is, but it does not go to the created access point. And the two most popular reasons are: the connection blocks the antivirus, or firewall, or the shared Internet access is not available, in the connection properties from which you are distributing Wi-Fi.

Internet does not work from the created access point on the laptop

Most often, I advise you to disable the antivirus, or firewall, if it is installed. And it helps. There only when configuring via USB modem there may be nuances, and as a rule, disabling antivirus helps, and the Internet starts working on all connected devices.

Also, check the sharing of your connection. I wrote about this in every article, the links to which are above. And I wrote about antiviruses in every article. But who reads these articles 🙂 but the commentary is full of identical questions. Will now give just a link to this article.

So, if you have the same problems as I described above, first disable the antivirus, and other programs that can block the Internet connection. Well, check the sharing settings.

Often the question arises, but how can you completely disable the antivirus? Delete? No, in each antivirus there is the possibility of temporary suspension of protection. For example, in Dr.Web this is done like this:

As you can see, it's enough to disable the built-in firewall to check whether it's in it. If after shutdown everything will work, then the connection was blocked by the antivirus.

Kaspersky disconnects like this:

If you have another antivirus, then just type "how to disable such and such an antivirus" in the search, everything is there.

Let's say you disabled the antivirus and everything worked. What now, without using an antivirus computer? No, you just need to configure your antivirus to add a connection to the exceptions. What would the built-in firewall do not block it.

Look for the firewall settings, where you can unlock the desired connection.

If disabling the antivirus and other programs does not help, and checking the sharing settings also did not help, then write in the comments, describe the problem in detail and I'll try to help you. If you know any solutions, you may have already encountered such a problem, then you can share it in the comments. I will be grateful!
