I'll start from the end: it's curious that this budget device falls out of its segment, it can be safely called a niche solution for young people - yes, it cannot boast of a quad-core processor or a huge screen, but this has its own charm and its advantages. Well, now let's get acquainted, Sony Xperia go.

Design, construction

Before me, journalists had already used the device, there is no headset in the box (apparently forgotten), go himself was badly poked, but not killed. Every smartphone that gets to journalists literally yells: "I am dying, but I am not giving up!" Still would. There will be no mercy, not mine - no pity, waste your time, burn with a blue flame. That is why you can safely assess how resistant go is to a variety of influences. There is a film on the screen, I note that Sony is doing very well, thus protecting the display - many users do not even know that it exists at all. There are some dents on the right end, as if from teeth. On the lower right corner, plastic was knocked down, apparently, there was a fall. The battery cover on the left side creaks, as if it cannot sit back. Apparently, this is due to the design of the lid itself, the hooks here are very small, you just need to hinder it a little, and that's it, you just pry the lid a little and it flies off. Everything is in order on the right side. All the plugs are in place, I like the design of the device, blue plastic is visible under the black, for example, on the lower right corner, where there is a groove for attaching a strap. The headphone jack is at the top left, also under the cap, the microUSB connector is at the top right.

The appearance of the device uses this year's Sony Mobile theme, a simple rectangle, under the display there is a strip of plastic with the Xperia inscription and a microphone hole. However, go is not very similar to the older brothers. And I would not call the device a budget - it is inexpensive, but does not look cheap. For example, I really liked that the black version is made of rough plastic, it is comfortable to hold in your hand. There is also a white and yellow go, the latter will look good with some colored G-shock.

The device measures 111 x 60.3 x 9.8 mm and weighs 110 grams. Quite thin, rather light, on the back there is the familiar SE logo, below it - Xperia, in the same place - the speaker hole. They came up with a great design for the camera, there is another microphone (apparently), a flash and a lens, enlarging circles. I can only praise the designers for the design of the plugs, although the 3.5 mm jack should have been moved either to the bottom or to the top for greater convenience.

The packaging of the device is also in the style of the latest Sony Xperia, a nice flat box that compares favorably with that of most SEs.

To insert a SIM card and memory card, you need to remove the cover. The first is inserted into a special removable unit, the second - in the usual way. The battery cannot be removed. As you can see, all the elements have received additional protection, because go is practically not afraid of water.

Display

Display diagonal 3.5 inches, resolution 480 x 320 pixels. Not bad viewing angles, brightness, I will not find fault, for most consumers this screen will be more than normal. The display protection has a special coating that allows you to work with the screen with wet fingers, in life it can come in handy not only in situations when you use go near the sea, but also at home, when you left the phone next to the bathtub while basking in water and foam. In addition, the display protection is mineral glass, which is not quite common for a budget device.

Control

On the upper left side there is a small power button, in principle, you can get used to this arrangement. On the right side there is a volume rocker, under the display there are buttons for return, Home, and an additional menu. They are sensory, which is not very good - but at least quite sensitive.

Protection

According to the official data: “This device is rated IP67 in accordance with the International Protection Classification System. IP67 class means that if properly assembled to maintain dust and moisture-proof properties, the phone will be protected from dust (number 6) and water (number 7) in harmful quantities for it when immersed in fresh water to a depth of no more than 1 meter for no more than 30 minutes. " Accordingly, you should not throw go on concrete, but you can swim with it, it is unlikely that something will happen to the device. Here is a video for you where the device works, submerged in water.

This video was filmed at the Sony Xperia go presentation in early summer. At shallow depths, it is quite possible to use cameras to take photos and videos. From this point of view, a smartphone can also be interesting.

Android version and performance

The version used is Android 2.3.7 with a number of changes in the Sony style, this applies to both the interface and design.

NovaThor U8500 Dual-core Cortex A9 processor, 1GHz, 512MB RAM. I must say a few words about the pre-installed software and features. The lock slider is well done here, although the movement with your finger is a bit long, the movement from left to right unlocks, if on the contrary, then the camera starts. By default, the four icons at the bottom are a folder with additional programs for an active lifestyle, a transition to the Google store, an SMS with its own funny icon and a call to the call program. I really like the branded floating wallpapers, the default is blue, you can choose a different color. Among the "active" programs are compass, WalkMate (pedometer), FigureRunner - an interesting program, you need to draw a picture on the map and then run it. There is also a flash, can be used as a flashlight, and miCoach, Adidas' training program for a variety of sports.

  • Your own weather widget
  • Default on-screen help, battery optimization tips, and other help, useful for those new to Android
  • Timescape, a feed of friends' actions, in my opinion, is not the most necessary thing
  • Music Unlimited, an application for listening and downloading music, videos - it's useless with us
  • The music player is designed in the Sony style, you can quickly transfer a file to a DLNA device, go to the playback queue, there is an equalizer with manual adjustment, surround sound, a setting to increase the volume of the xLOUD speakers (there are also presets for the equalizer). The speaker cannot be called loud, if you clamp the hole on the back, then the sound will not be completely "extinguished". The speaker is loud, and in general, the quality of speech transmission is all right here. In the player, you can run the Unlimited service to search for information about the artist in Wikipedia, Youtube and other services - when the device is locked, you see playback control buttons on the screen. In general, go suits well for music, I tried listening to it with Bose QC3 headphones, quite good for myself - not bad for a budget smartphone. This may be interesting for young people.
  • Navigation software Wisepilot
  • Modifications

There are two modifications of the device, considered according to the internal classification called ST27i, it works in UMTS HSPA 900 (Band VIII), 2100 (Band I), GSM GPRS / EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 networks. And ST27a works in UMTS HSPA 850 ( Band V), 1900 (Band II), 2100 (Band I), GSM GPRS / EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900.

Naturally, the device has Bluetooth, version 3.0 is used, which is very good. The complete list of profiles is as follows:

    • Advanced Audio Distribution Profile v1.2
    • Audio / Video Remote Control Profile v1.0
    • Handsfree Profile v1.5
    • Headset Profile v1.1
    • Object Push Profile v1.1
    • Phonebook Access Profile v1.0

A few words about Wi-Fi (802.11 b / g / n), connection to access points without problems, everything is in order with speed. DLNA and USB 2.0 are supported.

    Formats

I decided to talk about this separately, Sony Xperia go declared support for OGG, WAV, MP3 and some rare audio formats, there is no FLAC, but there is a curious moment with the video. Support for MKV and AVI is declared, I tried to reproduce the first episode of the series, the device did it without any problems. In my opinion, this is another plus for the device, you can get by with a regular player.

    Memory

Installed 8 GB of memory, about 4 GB is available to the user, there is a slot for microSD cards, cards up to 32 GB are supported. Unfortunately, when connected to a MacBook Pro, even Android File Transfer did not help me access the memory, I had to make do with a memory card.

    Camera

I won't say much about the camera, since the quality of the images leaves much to be desired - and even then, if you shoot in normal lighting. Resolution - 5 MP, a bunch of proprietary effects are supported, ranging from 3D panoramas to face detection. There is autofocus, the volume control button allows you to use digital zoom (it's better not to use it), there is stabilization when shooting video. Videos can be shot in HD, videos are good - unlike photos, this function is better implemented.

In my opinion, it turned out well. Compared to the Active, there is not such a sporty design here, and this is a plus, not everyone needs all this deliberate "activity". Meanwhile, the device calmly transfers heats to a shallow depth, sand, but is not so resistant to falls. I liked the proprietary add-ons, the design, the AVI support, and the various Sony programs that make life easier. It is curious that this budget device falls out of its segment, it can be safely called a niche solution for young people - yes, it cannot boast of a quad-core processor or a huge screen, but it has its own charm and its advantages. No camera, but the device is good as a means of listening to music, the performance is not impressive, but with go you can safely go to the shower and not be afraid of getting a drowned man at the exit. The average cost of the device is about 12,000 rubles, it seems to me that it is more interesting than Android devices of the same price category from Samsung, LG and other companies. Just a reliable smartphone for every day for those who cannot forget their love for Sony (Sony Ericsson).

7, NovaThor U8500 Dual-core Cortex A9 processor and 512MB RAM. One of the features of the handset, according to the manufacturer's information, is its IP67 protection. However, the device is interesting not only for this.

    Housing

Internally, the body material of the device in question is plastic, but outwardly there is a specific dusting or coating (call it more convenient), which tactilely resembles ceramic. The material looks interesting, and it feels great in the hand, but let's just say that if you transport the handset in your pocket with keys and other, so to speak, sharp objects, you will not be able to get away from scratches in the end. So, as far as it goes, pipe frugality is still necessary. However, in case someone has forgotten what the IP67 class means, let me remind you in a nutshell - we are talking about protection from dust and dirt.

As for the fit of materials among themselves - it is made at a good level - it will not work to improve the elements in the backlash between themselves. The only exception is a slight creak of the battery cover.

Even at the first cursory inspection, it seemed to me curious how the Sony Xperia Go (ST27i) is arranged under the battery cover. Here everything is "flooded", "sealed", "muffled" - in a word it is done so that moisture does not get inside - otherwise "sandals to the top" are provided! Immediately I note that when I got to know the pipe, I did not drown it to a depth of up to a meter for half an hour, as the manufacturer "recommends" - nevertheless, although a well-developed, but, nevertheless, an engineering version of the device was on hand. However, from the abundant rain in the shower, in the end, nothing happened to the device.

The implementation of mechanical functional elements on the body of the case does not cause any complaints. Yes, there are few elements, but all ports are closed with plugs, and the buttons are worked out with surgical precision inherent in the Japanese.

The cover of the battery pack is attached to the case, however, as it is removed from it without any difficulties - the time for performing one operation is no more than two or three seconds.

    Design

In Ukrainian retail, Sony Xperia Go (ST27i) is available in three body colors: classic black, as well as white and yellow.

Frankly speaking, I saw a "live" pipe only in a black case. Well, since they say that it is better to get acquainted with the design of smartphones, as well as any other devices, in person, then I convey my impressions only about the black Sony Xperia Go (ST27i).

The entire rear panel is covered by the battery cover. In its body there is a camera eye and a flash, as well as a slot for the speakerphone and a characteristic emblem since the "times of the Ochakovskys", that is, since the days of the Sony Ericsson concern.

On the right side edge, under a rather dense plastic plug, the micro- port is "hidden". A little lower is the volume control button, and at the junction of this panel with the bottom end there is a loop for attaching a safety cord.

On the left side panel there is another plastic plug, half the size mentioned. This covers the 3.5 mm jack.

Examining the top end, the user will find the power on / off button of the smartphone.

But on the bottom end there are no elements - the characteristic slot of the microphone is placed on the front panel, on the nut mentioned at the beginning of this section.

    Brief technical characteristics

    Display

Sony Xperia Go (ST27i) received a 3.5-inch display with a resolution of 320x480 pixels. Perhaps this may not seem enough to someone, but for a device that is positioned as a budget device, the state of affairs is quite justified.

There is a small grain in the system. Nevertheless, the user does not feel significant discomfort from its presence - the data is displayed quite well.

The display employs Mobile BRAVIA Engine technology, which is known to improve the quality of photos and videos in practice.

When working in sunlight, you often have to "wind up" the backlight level to the maximum, however, personally, in my opinion, all this is a small waste for comfortable work with Sony Xperia Go (ST27i) in a sunny environment - no need to run in search of a darker spot or cover the panel with your hand.

In hardware, the display is covered with a protective mineral glass, which is sensitive to pressing even with wet fingers.

As for the settings from the corresponding submenu, the user can adjust manually, or select the automatic mode, activate or also disable the Mobile BRAVIA Engine mode, work with animation, adjust the screen lock settings and much more.

    Memory

Sony Xperia Go (ST27i) received 8 GB of internal memory, with which the user has access to something about 6 GB. The rest of the system "selects" for itself.

The memory is divided so that about half the user can use to store various user content, and about 2 GB is the so-called system memory for applications.

Has a Sony Xperia Go (ST27i) and a slot for memory expansion cards. Traditional standard -. You can also insert microSDHC cards. Support for memory cards up to 32 GB inclusive is declared. The slot is realized under the cover of the battery pack and is covered with a plastic flap.

    Battery

The smartphone in question received a battery with a capacity of 1350 mAh. It is probably worth reminding right away that the battery is built-in. The solution for rugged smartphones is by no means new, but technically, of course, justified.

It takes about two hours to fully charge the battery through the "mediation" of the native AC adapter. After that, the smartphone can work for about 6.5 hours in GSM networks, or about 45 hours in audio playback mode or 5 hours in video playback mode.

    Equipment

Out of the box, the user will receive a smartphone running Android 2.3.7. There is no specifics about updating the OS - they promise in the fall, but they can postpone it.

A smartphone based on the NovaThor U8500 Dual-core Cortex A9 processor with a clock frequency of 1 GHz was created. The amount of RAM is 512 MB.

The operation of the system did not cause me any complaints: no freezes, no arbitrary reboots, or any other problems with regard to the operation of the system were noted.

    Performance

The performance capabilities of the system have been tested using several testers. Below are the results.

    Shell

The shell, of course, is customized - the emphasis is mainly on widgets: drawing, format, capabilities, and so on.

What attracted attention immediately - if, say, put two fingers on the diagonal of the display, and then bring them together, in the case of the Sony Xperia Go (ST27i), with such a movement, the user calls up a kind of technical submenu, the so-called "widget overview", which have already been brought to the desktops.

Having done the mentioned "manipulation", the user will see all the widgets on one panel, in the format of some floating icons. But nothing with them, thus, can be done - just an inspection, nothing more.

The smartphone unlocking format compensates for the lack of a hot launch button for the Built-in Camera application!

At the very bottom of the start page there are four icons for quick access to applications and services, which the user, however, can replace with others. This is easy to do - press and hold the icon, then transfer it to the trash, and with a similar manipulation we display the desired icon in place of the deleted icon.

I noticed an icon called Fitness. It contains several applications for sports: WalkMate is a pedometer, FigureRunner is a very interesting program that allows you to draw a sign on the map, which the user will then have to run, as well as two other programs - miCoach and Adidas.

I also liked the proprietary widget for controlling wireless interfaces, brightness, etc. - it is ergonomic, very simple and easy to use. Help is also available to help you optimize battery performance, etc.

But the notification panel is just the notification panel and there is nothing else here.

    Browser and email

In my humble opinion, the browser in Sony Xperia Go (ST27i) is the most “regular” Android one. The user will not see anything unusual here. There are six icons in the main window of the so-called context menu: “new window”, “bookmarks”, “windows”, as well as “stop”, “forward” and “more”. By clicking on the last window, the user gets access to search on the page, the ability to select text, get information about the page, send the page and much more.

ST27i, which will be discussed today, is presented by the Japanese developer as a youth solution and is in the budget segment. The device cannot boast of prohibitively high technical characteristics, in comparison even with its direct and closest competitors. Nevertheless, the device managed to take a favorable position in the market, and it gained really impressive popularity. This suggests that there is something fascinating about this once novelty of the smartphone market. Well, if so, let's take a closer look at the smartphone. So, meet Sony Xperia Go.

    Screen

Today we will not act as usual. We will not give technical characteristics at the beginning, but we will do it at the end of the review in order to draw a line under everything that will be said. But first things first. What do we have in this case? Before us lies the Sony Xperia GO ST27I. The diagonal of the screen is equal to 3.5 inches, as in the good old fourth iPhone. The resolution does not particularly spoil users, only 480 by 320 pixels. I would like to note that with such a budget, we have fairly good viewing angles. In parallel, a good margin of brightness can be noted so that you can read the text in sunlight.

In general, users are in favor of the fact that for its class the device has not just a good screen, but, one might say, an optimal one. By the way, the display has a special coating. It makes it possible to work with it even if there is water on the screen itself. This will come in handy for those people who often work with smartphones with wet hands. So to speak, very impatient people. An excellent solution for regular use near the sea. It is interesting that this model stands out from its segment due to its use. It is unusual for a state employee.

    Hardware part

Sometimes there are cases when Sony ST27I will not turn on. This problem is partly due to the hardware of the device. But what is it like here? Let's make a reservation right away: the smartphone has an operating system of the Android family. Its version is 2.3.7. A number of changes have been made to the shell. Specialists from a Japanese company worked on them. The changes affected the design, as well as the interface as a whole. And now, from general words to specific names.

    CPU

The NovaThor U8500 device is installed as a chipset. It works with two cores of the Cortex A9 generation. The clock frequency of the processor cores is one gigahertz. The amount of RAM is small - only 512 MB. As we can see, everything here is within the framework of budgetary rules. Another thing is the pre-installed software. That is what really is a reason for a separate conversation.

    Lockscreen

The blocking slider is well developed. When using the Sony Xperia ST27I, the movements will have to be done for a long time. Swiping from left to right, we can unlock the device's screen. If we swipe from right to left, then we activate the camera. At the bottom, by default, there are four icons at once. How are they represented? The first icon is a folder with additional programs. They can be used by people leading an active lifestyle. The second is the transition to a company store. The third is to open the text message menu. The fourth is to open a menu with calls.

    Features:

It should be noted that there are branded floating wallpapers here. They are pretty enough. They are blue by default. However, the user has the right to decide for himself what shade they should be. The range of active programs is represented by a compass, a speedometer, the FigureRunner utility, a program for using a flash as a torch, and another utility from Adidas. It is designed for training. What awaits us besides this software?

    Additional programs and widgets

There are not so few of them in the Sony ST27i. For example, there is a widget that allows you to control wireless interfaces, as well as change the brightness level, activate airplane mode, enable and disable navigation and other similar functions. Its external design is quite good, the Japanese have worked on it, as they say, wonderfully well.

The second widget allows you to see what kind of weather awaits us not only today, but also tomorrow, as well as the entire next week. Hourly split is possible to view the most accurate weather forecast. Help is provided by default and is periodically displayed on the screen. It contains tips that allow the owner of the phone to optimize its performance by using chips with a battery. The help, in general, will be useful for people who have just started to master the operating system of the "Android" family.

Do you need a news feed?

Sony ST27I, the characteristics of which we will give in this article, is equipped with a program called TimeEscape. It displays a feed of user actions that the owner of the phone previously added as friends. To be honest, there is no practical sense from this utility as such. Nevertheless, certain categories of users may well be interested in it. The Music Unlimited program will not only allow you to listen to music, but also download it to your device. In terms of watching videos, it is useless. Which, by the way, can already be understood from the name of the application.

    Form style

Separately, I would like to talk about the music player, since we got to this topic. It is decorated in the best traditions of a Japanese company. Using the interface, files can be quickly transferred, as well as transferred to a playlist, where the user has the right to add the necessary tracks or compositions.

If the buyer understands, he will be able to please himself with high-quality and surround sound, since the equalizer itself is present in the settings of the multimedia player built into this unit. With the help of a special add-on, you can increase the volume of the speakers. This is a very useful add-on, as the speakers themselves are not loud. Rather, it is more colloquial. We can say that the spoken speaker is doing well with the voice quality of the interlocutor.

A service called Unlimited, which is built into the multimedia player, allows you to find information about the artist of the currently playing song. The information will be found using third party services such as YouTube or Wikipedia. The Sony Xperia Go ST27i, which will be listed at the end of today's review, is well suited for listening to music. In this area, it is probably the leader among the analogs of the budget segment. Actually, that's why the smartphone was presented as a youth solution. You can buy this model for 7 thousand rubles.

    Interaction with social networks

Tired of music? No problem! Analog radio can be used. The list is selected quickly, it can be edited manually. The radio is also designed in a Sony style. To identify the music that is playing, for example, in a cafe, you can use a traditional Japanese program called TrackID. It works smartly, practically without delays, for which you can say "thank you" to the Japanese.

Not very functional, but really beautiful is the clock widget. The accessories are controlled using a program called LiveWare. Customization is additionally presented with its own wallpapers and themes, and this is one of the strengths of this model.

    Photographic capabilities

It is unlikely that much can be said about the device's camera. However, we can walk through the pivotal points. First of all, it should be noted that, of course, one should not expect a miracle from this model. The quality is average here. Even if the pictures are taken in normal lighting, there is a lot to be desired. Yes, the main module has a resolution equal to five megapixels. But something is not clear, whether there are problems with the processing algorithm, or the optics are of poor quality, but still the images of even this resolution are not particularly consistent.

    Every silver lining

What saves the situation? Probably a whole range of built-in effects from the firm. The simplest are 3D panoramas. The coolest are face detection. Automatic focusing on the subject is present, it works at an average speed. The digital zoom can be used, but not to be disappointed. This is done using the volume buttons. When shooting video, the image is stabilized. Shooting clips produces striking results. Unlike photos, videos are of high quality, they can be shot in HD quality. It is not clear why the Japanese focused on filming the video this time. It would be better if they finalized the creation of photographs too.

    Autonomous work

The developer himself stated that the smartphone will be able to work six and a half hours in second-generation networks, and an hour less in 3G mode. Music can be played for 45 hours. However, in order to soberly assess such indicators and analyze the situation, remember that we have an operating system of the Android family on board and take a look at the lithium-ion battery. It has a capacity of 1305 milliamperes per hour. The battery, by the way, is built into the smartphone itself; you cannot replace it manually. With such a small capacity, you immediately begin to think that Android will drop the device by noon. However, it turns out that even when used with an activity above average, "Sony" can live until the evening. The result was extremely surprising, and in a pleasant way. Sony Xperia Go ST27I: specifications and reviews

So, it's time to tell briefly about what characteristics this model has. The Sony ST27I phone has a 3.5-inch screen at 320 x 480 pixels. The camera has a resolution of five megapixels. There is IP67 protection against moisture and dust. Processor on two cores, clocked at 1 GHz. The amount of RAM is 512 MB. The operating system version is “Android 2.3”. You can upgrade to 4.0.

What do buyers say about this unit? From the point of view of use for "get-togethers" on social networks, this is a good device. It will also be interesting for those who regularly use the device to listen to music. However, users in reviews complain about poor performance (and what to expect with such a processor and memory size?) And a weak camera. If you are going to take quality pictures in order to share them on social networks or other places, then you will have to look for a better analogue.
