Of course, this is not the first budget smartphone model from Alcatel, it is just this model that is capable of arousing the interest of a user expecting to buy a good smartphone within $ 100. Alcatel POP 3 appeared in store windows in the fall of 2015 and is sold at a price of 110 USD (the price is indicated at the time of writing the review).
The appearance of the device is simple and concise, but in line with modern trends. The body is made of plastic, well assembled. Some users note that the volume rocker and the power button are very well located, it is convenient to reach them, given the dimensions of the case due to the large display.

CPU
A 4-core MediaTek MT6580 (1.3 GHz) is used as a processor. Video chip - Mali-400 MP2. In operation, the smartphone demonstrates good performance, which is sufficient for fast applications. Hardware-demanding games run almost all, however, for smooth operation it is necessary to reduce the picture quality. For example, GTA: SA runs stably at medium graphics settings. In the synthetic AnTuTu test, the Alcatel POP 3 5025D scores 20,000 points.
Memory
The amount of RAM is 1 GB. For such a cost, expect something more at the moment, however, this volume is enough for not particularly demanding users. The main drive for storing data and installing applications is 8 GB. More than 4 GB is available for use - the memory is more than enough for applications, and there will be room for a "heavy" game. Support for memory cards up to 128 GB is declared.
Battery
The battery with a capacity of 2910 mAh allows the owner of the smartphone to stay connected all day long. Despite the fact that the device does not belong to the category of "long-livers", most owners speak positively about its autonomy. It is also noted that Alcatel POP 3 charges faster than other smartphones with a battery of similar capacity.
The charge is enough for one day of normal use, and for about 5 hours in continuous video playback mode. Enabling power saving mode extends the standby time of the device up to 3-4 hours.
Camera
You cannot get serious pictures with the device. The 8MP camera allows you to take more or less tolerable pictures in good daylight. In other cases, everything is sad. Autofocus is slow, very slow. The video is recorded in FHD (1080p) format, and its quality is also not very good. The camera cannot be included in the list of shortcomings, since it fully corresponds to the price category of a smartphone.
But the 5MP front camera allows you to take not the worst portrait photos, and is well suited for video conferencing.
Display
The 5.5-inch display is the main pride of the Alcatel POP 3 5025D smartphone. An IPS matrix, bright colors and good viewing angles successfully complement a decent resolution of 1280 x 720. Of course, the display is not protected by damage-resistant glass, does not have anti-glare and other "premium" properties. However, it performs its functions without question, it is well suited for surfing the web, watching videos, playing games, etc.
Networking capabilities
A smartphone for 2 SIM cards can work in 2G / 3G networks. Has support for GPS navigation, and A-GPS technology. It can be used as a navigator, since it finds satellites quite quickly.
Sound

Each of the models, both Alcatel POP 3 5 "and Alcatel POP 3 5.5", have a variant on the Snapdragon 210 chipset and on the MediaTek MT6580. In the case of Alcatel POP 3 5 "they are called 5015X and 5015D, respectively, while Alcatel POP 3 5.5" are called 5025X and 5025D.
Mods built on Snapdragon 210 (4-core, 1.1 GHz) support LTE, NFC and have one SIM card slot. Those that on MediaTek MT6580 (4-core, 1.3 GHz) lack LTE and NFC support, but there are two SIM card slots. The capacity of the RAM in all cases is 1 GB, the permanent memory is 8 GB, expandable.

ALCATEL ONETOUCH POP 3 leaves a similar feeling - a device that fully works out every penny invested and at the same time costs less than $ 150. In Ukraine, for example, the device is expected to be priced at UAH 3200 at the start of sales, which is very, very cheap. This should be taken into account while reading the review.

ALCATEL ONETOUCH POP 3 looks quite catchy in its silver color. This color, like the gold one, can be recommended to girls as soon as possible. The corners of the apparatus are rounded. For its size, the smartphone fits well in the hand. Above the screen, in addition to the usual proximity and light sensors, there is an LED notification indicator. Under the display, there are three touch-sensitive buttons made in the style of Android L. The appearance of the central button of ALCATEL ONETOUCH POP 3 remotely resembles Meizu smartphones. It remains visible even when the backlight is off. But the existence of the "Back" and "Multitasking" buttons, you will only learn by unlocking the device.
The location of the ALCATEL ONETOUCH POP 3 controls is questionable. I think it would make sense to swap them. The volume buttons and the power / lock button are easily groped blindly and have a clear, short stroke, but at the same time you have to constantly reach for the latter with your finger. There would be a more rational design approach from Sony, when the power button is placed in the middle of the side edge, under the volume buttons.
From the pleasant - the back cover is made in the form of a bath, respectively, if you wish, you can completely change the appearance and buttons of your companion. But still, there is no need to build illusions, the screen is inferior in color quality to the same, for example.
Automatic brightness control in our case is a strange object, it seems to be there, but as if not. It works only within small limits and for drastic changes you will have to pull the slider manually. However, this moment can be attributed to the features of the test sample.
Cameras
Despite the fact that ALCATEL ONETOUCH POP 3 is equipped with 5 and 2 Mp modules, a modification with a main camera of 8 Mp and a front camera of 5 Mp will be supplied to Ukraine.
The smartphone camera is very, very good (keep in mind the cost). Yes, it lathers the shots a little, yes, panoramic shots lack detail, but these are excusable moments with a modest price tag. On the other hand, ALCATEL ONETOUCH POP 3 boasts fast enough focusing and good macro quality. It is better not to show the shots taken in the dark to anyone, but the pictures taken indoors with a flash are very good.
In terms of video, everything is pretty familiar. The limit is shooting FullHD movies at 30 frames per second.
Performance and stuffing
The filling of the smartphone is entirely in line with the price tag and expectations from the device. The quad-core MediaTek MT6580M is engaged in mathematical calculations. The "cold" Cortex A7 cores operate at 1.3 GHz. The Mali-400 video accelerator is responsible for rendering graphics. RAM onboard 1 GB, permanent - 8 GB expandable with microSD cards.
If we talk about the speed of applications, everything is at a quite decent level. Naturally, there are small delays and frame losses, but in general ALCATEL ONETOUCH POP 3 does not allow itself to “think too much” even when working with several applications at the same time.
The device suits well for work, but average for toys. The latter aspect is well illustrated by the Antutu benchmark, in which the smartphone is gaining about 20,000 points. This means that most of the games ALCATEL ONETOUCH POP 3 will pull without problems, but with "heavy" ones it will either not cope with it, or will ask you to lower the display quality settings.
The smartphone stays cold under any load, whether it's a couple of hours of toys or watching a movie, which is good news.
Software and shell
One of the merits of ALCATEL ONETOUCH POP 3 is the OS version - Android 5.1. The manufacturer has done a little cleverness with the "bare" operating system, adding both useful elements and doing outright nonsense. Useful moments include add-ons for the lock screen, which allow you to customize quick launch buttons for important functions, a proprietary music player that can play music in folders.
I also liked the additional desktop called ONETOUCH STREAM, which shows the weather, current news feed and other important information a'la simplified Google Now.
But the huge colorful icons surprised me. On the one hand, they add personality to pure Android L, but on the other, they look like a kind of hello from the past.
If we talk about the impressions of working with the device as a whole, I am very pleased with the speed that is obtained as a result of the interaction of a modest processor from MTK and Android of the fifth iteration with its performance optimizations that allow the hardware to be fully exposed. With the release of Lollipop, it seems to me that many budget devices will get a new lease on life and will gradually cease to be associated by users with "clumsy buggies."
Autonomy, sound, communication quality
The smartphone has one multimedia speaker located close to the camera. The speaker is loud enough not to miss the incoming or listen to music in the apartment.
There are no complaints about the quality of communication, the interlocutor is always heard well and clearly.
But the autonomy of ALCATEL ONETOUCH POP 3 was very, very surprised. The smartphone lives quietly for about two days of active use, giving an average of six hours of screen.
conclusions
ALCATEL ONETOUCH POP 3 is a very solid device. Being in the price segment up to $ 150, he fulfills every penny invested in it. In contrast to small flaws in the assembly, the peculiarities of the camera and not the most advanced filling, the device can oppose an attractive appearance with the possibility of customization, support for two SIM-cards, decent autonomy and Android of the latest (mass) version.
If we talk about competitors, old friends from the camps of Lenovo, Meizu (M2), Xiaomi (Redmi Note) and thoroughbred Chinese immediately pop up. If you pay a little extra, you can take a look towards the Sony Xperia E4, LG G3 Stylus. True, the latter look a little sluggish, at least due to an even more modest screen resolution.
