ContiVikingContact 6

This studless tire is specially designed for the Scandinavian and Russian winter. When changing the model, the developers have placed special emphasis on high grip on all types of surfaces. This versatility is achieved thanks to a three-part asymmetrical tread made from an innovative rubber compound optimized for softness. The outer part of the tread provides traction on dry asphalt, the middle part - on ice, and the inner part - on snow. The combination of tread design contributes to good performance in constantly changing city road conditions. The design of the sipes makes the tire resistant to aquaplaning on wet asphalt, and the bridged tread blocks work like snow chains in the snow. This season, ContiVikingContact 6 includes 97 titles for both passenger cars and SUVs.

CONTINENTAL IceContact 2

New generation glued-in studded tire with increased number of edges and less weight. Since this season, IceContact 2 has the ContiSeal anti-puncture technology, a sealant which seals punctures up to 5 mm in diameter without subsequent repair, as well as the ContiSilent technology, which, thanks to a layer of special foam, significantly reduces noise and vibration levels. Also in the tire, in comparison with its predecessor ContiIceContact, the handling on dry roads was improved by 9%, on ice by 2%, and the indicators of braking and traction on ice transmission increased by 8%. Another feature of the tire is its asymmetrical tread pattern. Increased tire life and stud safety are ensured by the double-fired technology, due to which the tire and stud are practically one whole. The IceContact 2 tire line will include 112 passenger car and SUV tire names this season.

CORDIANT SNOW CROSS

A characteristic feature of this tire is the new patented Spice-Cor stud produced by the renowned company Scason. The spike body is made of aluminum and the carbide insert is made of tungsten carbide. The optimal cleat hole shape ensures both a secure grip of the cleat in the tire and the transmission of high traction on ice. The modified design of the base layer enhances the impact of the stud on the ice. In addition, the original design of the spike body prevents its rotation in the tread layer and increases the reliability of the spike retention in the tire. The new chemical composition of the rubber compound of the tread extends the temperature range of the tire to -53 ° C. According to the test results, new technologies have reduced the braking distance on ice, in comparison with the previous generation of tires, by 12%. In 2016, the Cordiant Snow Cross tire line was expanded by 25 sizes, and now the range is 35 sizes with rim diameters from 14 to 18 inches. The assortment also includes reinforced tires for SUV segment vehicles (13 sizes with rim diameters from 16 to 18 inches).

Its features are: increased length of sipes with sharper edges, durable block material that prevents them from breaking, tread stiffness with an asymmetric design that provides stability in turns and when changing lanes, increased belt rigidity. The tire is available in 50 sizes with rim diameters ranging from 13 to 19 inches.

DUNLOP WINTER MAXX SJ8

The material from which the tire is made has become stronger, but at the same time has not lost its elasticity, which contributes to reliable grip on the irregularities of the icy road, and the strength of the rubber prevents the tread blocks from breaking. Here, as well as in the Grandtrek Ice 02 model, the MiuraOri 3D lamellas are used. The combination of lateral and longitudinal grooves provides not only confident grip on snow, but also self-cleaning of the tread. The increased stiffness in the shoulder area improves the tire's cornering and lane behavior, and the center rib provides stable directional stability. The tire is available in 50 standard sizes with rim diameters from 15 to 21 inches.

GISLAVED NORD FROST 200

The new studded tire is specially designed for the harsh winter conditions, with an emphasis on value for money and with an emphasis on safety and durability. A specially shaped narrow rib in the center of the treadmill effectively squeezes snow and slush into wide grooves that lead them out through the arcuate grooves in the shoulder areas. This solution improves traction and traction on snowy roads. The updated tread compound has a higher grip coefficient, which also improves traction and braking performance.

HANKOOK Winter i * cept evo2 (W320)

The Winter i * cept evo2 is a high-speed tire that has increased the number of rows of tread blocks located around the circumference from 64 to 80. A similar solution directly in the contact patch provides more efficient penetration of the tread elements into the snow surface and improved traction. The technology of three-dimensional sipes ensures their blocking, which, in turn, limits deformation of the blocks and allows the use of softer rubber compounds in the tread composition. The grooves located at the optimal angle contribute to the self-cleaning of the tread, and the edges of the tread blocks effectively bite into the packed snow. To drain water from the contact patch, only two longitudinal grooves are used, but their width is increased by 30%, and the angle of inclination is optimized in such a way that such a design not only increases the volume of water passed through, but also helps to reduce the noise level. The bus is available in 46 standard sizes.

The use of this technology also contributes to a longer tire life. Improved performance on snow and ice is provided by a new directional tread pattern that uses 3D sipes. The large number of edges contributes to the reliable grip of the tire with the road surface. Better contact with the road and improved braking performance compared to the previous model is provided by the new shape of the shoulder blocks. Blizzak DM-V2 tires are available in 58 sizes with rims ranging from 15 to 22 inches.

CONTIVICINGCONTACT 6

This studless tire is specially designed for the Scandinavian and Russian winter. When changing the model, the developers have placed special emphasis on a high level of grip on all types of surfaces. This versatility is achieved thanks to a three-part asymmetric tread made from an innovative rubber compound optimized for softness. For the first time, some of the standard sizes of this model have been released using the ContiCilent technology. This is a layer of polyurethane foam that adheres to the inner surface of the tire from the tread side and effectively absorbs sound vibrations transmitted to the wheel rim, and then to the suspension and body parts. Research has shown that this technology can reduce cabin noise by approximately 9 dB. This season, the ContiVicingContact 6 line has been expanded with 13 sizes and includes 110 items for both passenger cars and SUVs.

CONTINENTAL ICECONTACT 2

Studded tire with soldered-in stud with increased number of edges and less weight. Continental says this cleat attachment technology provides 10 times more retention in the tread than conventional studs. The ContiSeal anti-puncture technology is available in a number of standard sizes of the IceContact 2 tire, the sealant of which seals punctures up to 5 mm in diameter without subsequent repair, as well as the ContiSilent technology, which, thanks to a layer of special foam, significantly reduces the level of noise and vibration. Also, in comparison with its predecessor ContiContact, the tire has 9% better handling on dry roads, 2% - on ice, and 8% more braking and traction on ice. Another feature of the tire is its asymmetrical tread pattern. The double-fired technology provides increased tire life and safety of the studs, due to which the tire and stud are practically one whole. This season, the IceContact 2 tire range has been expanded with 23 sizes to include 135 passenger car and SUV models.

CORDIANT SNOW CROSS

The characteristic feature of this tire is the original Spice-Cor stud made by the renowned company Scason. The new tread chemistry extends the tire's temperature range to -53 ° C. According to the test results, new technologies made it possible to shorten the braking distance on ice, in comparison with the previous generation of tires, by 12%. The Snow Cross range this season in 35 sizes with fit diameters from 14 to 18 inches. The range also includes reinforced tires for SUV segment vehicles (13 sizes with rim diameters from 16 to 18 inches).

DUNLOP WINTER MAXX 02

Dunlop Tire CIS introduces to the Russian and CIS markets a new development of Sumitomo Rubber Industries - the non-studded Winter Maxx 02 model with an asymmetric tread pattern that is universal for all surfaces. Its design uses the sharp edges of the blocks, which facilitate grip on the ice surface, and wide drainage grooves provide self-cleaning of the tread from snow and slush. Developed lateral drainage grooves efficiently drain moisture from the contact patch. The tread pattern is designed in such a way that the tire, due to the effect of snow compression, has zones of increased grip on the snow surface. The tire uses the Miura-Ori zigzag lamella technology, already familiar from the previous models of the company, but in the Winter Maxx 02 their length is increased. Thus, the tread blocks have more sharp edges, which improves traction on snow and ice surfaces. The new, more elastic Mega Nano Fit Rubber material also improves grip. To maintain the stable performance of the tire during operation, a softening component made from biomass is used in the rubber compound. The tire is available in 36 standard sizes with rim diameters from 13 to 19 inches.

FIRESTONE ICE CRUISER 7

For the winter season, Bridgestone has prepared a new product from its subsidiary brand - the Ice Cruiser 7. The main innovation of the tire is the original stud, which provides high braking performance on ice surfaces. The cohesive structure of the large center blocks of the tread contributes to good directional stability, and the large rigid blocks of the sidewalls help the control when cornering. At the same time, the sharp edges of the blocks provide a secure grip on snowy surfaces. Developed lateral grooves effectively remove moisture and snow slurry from the contact patch of the tire with the road. Taking into account the specifics of our roads, there is another important detail: both the center of the tire and its sidewalls are made more durable, which significantly reduces the risk of damage. This season the tire is presented in 19 standard sizes with rim diameters from 13 to 17 inches.

GOODYEAR ULTRAGRIP ICE SUV

Non-studded tire designed for crossovers and SUVs. The composition of the rubber compound of this model has an increased content of silica, which allows the tire to maintain stable performance in a wide range of winter temperatures. When developing the design of the shoulder protector of the UltraGrip Ice SUV model, sip locking technology was used: the deeper protrusions of the prismatic sipes provide block rigidity during movement, which positively affects handling when cornering and making maneuvers. The developers paid special attention to the optimal pressure distribution in the contact patch of the tire with the road - a characteristic that significantly affects the performance of acceleration and braking. A wear indicator is provided in the center tread area to allow the owner to monitor the condition of the tire. The model is offered in standard sizes with bore diameters from 16 to 20 inches.

GOODYEAR ULTRAGRIP ICE ARCTIC SUV

Key to the development of this model was the MultiControl Ice technology, combining solutions related to stud construction, sipe design and tread pattern. The special shape of the hard-alloy spike insert has improved the acceleration performance (this is also facilitated by the optimized spike positioning), braking and handling on ice, as well as reduce the loads that prevent the spike from keeping in the tire. The enlarged trailing edge of the hard-alloy cleat insert allows for increased resistance when in contact with the ice surface, which increases the braking efficiency compared to classic cleats. When cornering, one of the side edges of the cleat becomes at an angle of 90 ° in relation to the path of travel - this increases grip and improves handling. For effective grip on rolled snow, the V-shaped sipes in the tread layer are staggered, and the "sawtooth" design of the shoulder area of \u200b\u200bthe tread contributes to effective grip when driving in deep snow. Open drainage grooves, widened in the shoulder area, allow water, slush and slush to quickly drain from the tire-to-road contact patch, which reduces the risk of aquaplaning. The tire is offered in standard sizes with rim diameters from 15 to 20 inches.

NOKIAN HAKKAPELIITTA 9

Nokian Tires is launching a new studded tire with completely new solutions. First of all, these are different spikes in the center and side of the tire. The former are responsible for acceleration and braking, the latter for lateral grip. Traditionally for the Nokian Tires winter tire range, the novelty has a directional tread pattern and a fixed direction of rotation. The tread pattern is heavily carved by the supporting 3D sipes that connect the tread blocks for improved handling. Deep grooves, together with snow traction enhancers on both sides of the middle blocks in the center of the tread, provide sharper edges for improved snow traction in both longitudinal and lateral directions. The main components of the new environmentally friendly rubber compound are silica, rapeseed oil (which improves the tensile strength of the compound) and a new biomaterial that helps the rubber compound remain flexible even at very low temperatures. The new rubber compound also effectively minimizes interior noise. Among other things, the elasticity of the tread improves the performance of the sipes, which in turn provides effective traction on snow. The stability of the chemical bonds in the tread layer ensures the stable characteristics of the tire during its entire service life. The very strong steel belt belt contributes to a high degree of controllability even at high speeds. The tire is available in 52 sizes with rim diameters from 14 to 20 inches.

“Prepare summer tires in winter and winter tires in summer” - this simple rule regularly helps motorists save time, money and nerve cells. So it's time to take a look at our 2017 winter tire test and select the very tires that are ideal for both weather and temperature conditions, as well as lifestyle and driving style.

Winter tire tests 2017-2018 (Behind the Wheel, Auto Review, ADAC, Auto Bild)

Tests of winter and summer tires, which are carried out every year by a number of qualified organizations, will help you not to get lost in the abundance of names, brands and brands. This includes:

ADAC Club

ADAC is a serious organization that has represented the interests of German car enthusiasts for over a century. The largest auto club in Europe checks car brands for quality and safety, and also regularly tests tires. It is difficult to achieve high marks for tire manufacturers from ADAC - their rigorous testing, carried out with true German thoroughness, can leave neither the bottom nor the tires from the tire. The usual results are "satisfactory" and rarely does any tire get a "good" verdict.

The oldest Russian magazine dedicated to motorists and their iron horses. Regularly tests tires popular and not very popular on the post-Soviet market in hot and cold weather, and also conducts interesting research such as "How temperature affects the length of the braking distance of a car."

Car enthusiasts from over 35 countries around the world read licensed editions of the German Auto Bild magazine. The magazine presents not only automotive sports and industry news, but also comparative tests, test drives and, of course, tire testing in various interesting places - for example, in a small Finnish village in the Arctic Circle.

The popular Russian (and formerly Soviet) edition "Autoreview" regularly conducts comparative tests of cars at the proving ground, crash tests using Euromethods with its own independent rating, and also tests car goods, from fuel to baby car seats. Of course, tires are also on the list.

Rating of winter studded tires 2017-2018

Since the latest rubber tests are carried out during peak season, the rating is based on the tests of tires R14, R15, R16, R17, carried out last winter... When distributing places in the list, the following were also taken into account: the popularity of the model in Russia, ratings, reviews and the cost of tires on the Yandex Market service.

Despite the differences in conditions, the testing of the best winter studded tires 2017-2018. are carried out according to a similar method:

  • acceleration and braking dynamics are tested on ice, snow, wet and dry asphalt;
  • the time taken to cover a certain distance on different types of coverage is taken into account;
  • an assessment of the level of vehicle handling, its smoothness and how noisy the tires are.

10. Gislaved Nord Frost 200

Average cost - 5 570 rubles.

The rating of winter studded tires for 2017-2018 is opened by a new model from the Swedish company Gislaved. The main highlight of the two-hundredth model is an asymmetric tread pattern and a new ultra-light (less than 1 gram) stud in the form of a three-pointed star. In general, the tires are quiet, soft, with good directional stability, adhere well to any surface - however, on fresh snow and ice it may require adjusting the driving style. On a slightly icy track, you should not accelerate more than 100 km on such tires, otherwise the car will drive.

Price, on average - 5 982 rubles.

The name of the tire itself says that its developers ( russian company Cordiant) paid special attention to the behavior of the tire on the snow. The tread pattern is directional, the center of which is a closed rib, which in theory should significantly reduce the likelihood of aquaplaning in the snow. (Interesting, by the way, that this very pattern almost exactly copies the tread of the third place in the rating.) The result is good rubber at a budget price, which really rides on snow. True, asphalt is not given to her as well as snow.

The average price is 8 600 rubles.

A clear improvement over the ICE 01 both in terms of directional stability and noise reduction on asphalt. It is difficult to expect the response speed of more expensive rubber from the rubber of the middle price segment, but the Dunlop SP Winter ICE 02 fulfills its value 100%. Advantages: high cross-country ability, very strong sidewall, excellent spikes, rowing in a snowy mess. True, it does not feel very good on the asphalt, and it makes a noticeable noise, and at speeds above 90 km / h it causes increased fuel consumption.

Cost, on average - 6 670 rubles.

Good city tires with the ability to feel comfortable in not too deep snow. It rides well both on asphalt and on dense snow, the noise is within normal limits. It should be noted that it is best to use this rubber in central Russia, where temperatures rarely exceed -15 degrees. But Siberians with deep snow and prolonged frosts are better off thinking about a more hardy version.

The average cost is 2,410 rubles.

Nokian's Nordman series is a more budget-friendly version of the famed Hakkapeliitta. Soft, comfortable, low-noise tires at a reasonable price, which feels good both on dry asphalt and on snow. On wet asphalt, based on the reviews, it is better not to accelerate over 100 km. A good option for city dwellers in the "home - work - dacha" mode. Due to the softness of the rubber, it is difficult to get out of the rut, and you should be careful with curbs, branches and other sharp objects. But in general, an excellent option in terms of price / quality.

You can buy, on average, 4,860 rubles.

While the previous Top 10 was primarily intended for urban driving, the IceContact 2 from Continental is best suited for off-road use. Feels great at low temperatures both on snow and on crust or ice, it is able to take its owner from anywhere. A big advantage is the many spikes (there are 196 of them). There is no hum from these tires.

But on wet, frozen or snow-covered asphalt, special care must be taken. Also not the most best reviews earned the "behavior" of rubber on the snow porridge, where it begins to scour.

It is offered, on average, for 10 260 rubles.

Although the G8 is a newer model in the Hakkapeliitta range, it is slightly less popular than its predecessor. One of the main reasons is the very soft sidewall, as a result of which you will have to carefully select the discs and, despite the excellent cross-country ability, carefully choose the places to ride. Otherwise, hernias and cuts. But this rubber is very predictable, has a large number of studs (190 pieces) and goes well on ice and packed snow.

It is sold, on average, for 7,100 rubles.

It differs from the eighth model in fewer spikes (by 30%), but its hexagonal anchor spikes are longer and heavier. They use a technology called "bear claw", which prevents the stud from tilting, thereby improving grip. Quiet, reliable, albeit expensive rubber, which, despite the generation, enjoys a high reputation among motorists. Feels good both on snow and on ice and asphalt, while being hardy and strong. However, like the eighth version, the Hakkapeliitta 7 has a very soft sidewall and this is felt when the steering wheel is turned sharply.

Average price - 9 080 rubles.

And here is the next generation of the illustrious line. The fruit of four years of development efforts of the Finnish company is said to exceed the characteristics of the G8 by 5-10%. The biggest highlight of the new model is the two types of studs (although in general there are slightly fewer than the predecessor), which should improve lateral grip on snowy or icy roads. And changes in the rubber compound will help the tire feel better in cold temperatures. So far, according to preliminary tests, the tires promise to be excellent, but the chickens are counted in the fall - when the mass sales of the Nine will begin.

1. Pirelli Ice Zero

On average, it costs 15 550 rubles.

Paradoxically, it turned out that the Italians know better about the production of winter studded rubber than the inhabitants of snowy Scandinavia. One of the highlights of the model is the original double carbide studs, which provide the tire with excellent ice performance.

Other advantages: high cross-country ability, good acceleration and braking performance on snow and ice, high directional stability. And endurance - there are chances to bring the tires to retirement with a full set of studs. Excellent, almost universal rubber for winter conditions, feels good both on asphalt and outside the city. True, the noise level is quite high. And the price "bites".

What winter tires are better to choose in the end

So which winter tires are best for you? The 2017 ranking includes both urban rubber types and tires designed for more severe weather conditions. For frequent off-road driving, Pirelli Ice Zero, Continental IceContact 2 or Dunlop SP Winter ICE 02 are perfect. For a quiet city ride, it is better to choose the Bridgestone Ice Cruiser 7000, Nokian Nordman 5 or Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8. Otherwise, when choosing tires, you should first consider temperature conditions, and the surface to be driven on.

Michelin

The French company Michelin has expanded its winter tire portfolio with four new products. The role of the flagship of the Nordic studded tire range, designed for harsh winter conditions, is now assigned to the model. Tread x-Ice tires North 4 in size 205/55 R16 now contains 250 studs! This is double the X-Ice North 3 and, on average, 30% more than the leading competitors. The directional tread pattern has a high proportion of positive profile, a developed network of grooves and a new design of sipes. New generation elastomers have been added to the tread rubber. They push back the glass transition of the tread rubber to -65 degrees, maintaining performance at ultra-low temperatures.

The sixth generation of the "alpine" range of winter tires is designed for the mild winter climates of the central regions of the European continent. The Alpin 6 features a high level of safety, both with a new tread and with a worn one. This is made possible by a tread pattern that changes with wear, modeled on the EverGrip technology. To ensure performance, the new product uses a multi-layer rubber compound. The outer layer of the tread provides an initial high level of grip in winter conditions, while the inner layer improves grip on snowy surfaces as the tire wears.

The new winter crossover tire combines French innovation to deliver superior grip at high speeds. The new tread design is made using the latest Total Performance technology and engineering solutions aimed at achieving high performance on winter roads. The latest generation of sunflower oil rubber compound has improved performance at low temperatures. Precise steering at high speeds is achieved by a self-locking StabiliGrip sipe tread. Numerous deep grooves and curved blocks ensure efficiency on snowy roads.

Michelin Agilis CrossClimate tires are addressed to drivers in the southern regions who operate cars at temperatures down to -5 degrees Celsius. The novelty is designed using a V-shaped tread and self-locking 3D sipes. The sharp edges of the tread blocks, combined with the 3D sipes, provide reliable grip on snowy roads. At the same time, in summer conditions of operation on dry and wet surfaces, the new tire demonstrates characteristics identical to summer tires. Thanks to the new tread compound with functional elastomers, the tire has a 35% increase in tire life compared to the average of leading competitors.

Continental

German car tire manufacturer Continental has unveiled a new Nordic-type non-studded VikingContact 7 and a European-style non-studded WinterContact TS860S. The tire replaces the high performance Nordic type ContiVikingContact 6. The tread compound has been adapted to the conditions of Russia and Scandinavia. Its versatility is due to its soft rubber compound with active silicon dioxide and rapeseed oil. These components have improved the performance of the tire on wet roads and retained the elasticity needed for reliable grip at low temperatures. The tread has a directional design with an optimized contact patch ratio and effective network grooves, which improved the drainage of water and snow slurry. The tread blocks are interconnected by small bridges to ensure the tire is stable in corners. The increased number of 3D Trapez Sipes closing sipes has resulted in impressive traction and braking performance on icy and snowy roads.

Addressed to owners of powerful and sports cars. Engineers integrated a special brake groove into the central part of the tread, thanks to which the braking distance was significantly shortened. Improved grip is provided by tough, wide shoulder tread blocks that provide superior grip and, as a result, precise handling. The increased number of multidirectional grooves and a developed network of traction sipes ensured effective grip on snow.

Goodyear

American tire manufacturer Goodyear has introduced a new studded tire. The novelty combines a number of advantages and technologies found in the most successful Goodyear models. Thus, the directional tread pattern with constructive modifications was borrowed from the Dunlop Ice Touch tire. He managed to establish itself as an effective tool that guarantees reliable grip on winter roads. It is molded from a highly resilient rubber compound that guarantees performance over a wide range of winter temperatures. Engineers have provided it with deep multifunctional grooves and sipes with multiple engagement edges. For effective grip on snow, traps integrated into the blocks of the shoulder zones are responsible for capturing and retaining snow. Dynamic center tread grooves improve traction on any type of winter road. The developed network of sipes creates a large number of engagement edges that improve acceleration and braking performance on slippery and wet roads.

The design of the studs, which was made according to the concept of the active stud Active Stud Technology, was not ignored either. It implies an enhanced spike action on the road surface due to the 6-sided shape.

The Finnish company Nokian Tires has relied on a non-studded novelty for passenger cars and its version for crossovers and SUVs with an SUV prefix. The unique innovations of the novelty include the concept of Arctic Sense Grip, according to which the tread was equipped with sipes of various designs that adapt to any weather conditions. The tread is molded from a third generation Cryo Crystal sharp tough rubber compound. The multifaceted Snow Claws, located between the tread blocks and shoulder zones, create balanced grip on ice and snow, especially during braking and acceleration. The novelty is positioned as the best offer for electric and hybrid vehicles in terms of economy.

The main feature of the model was the use of Aramid Sidewall technology. It has already proven itself on other Nokian Tires models for heavy vehicles with a high center of gravity. The technology consists of sidewalls reinforced with aramid fiber, providing high strength characteristics and resistance to impacts and cuts. The sidewalls of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 SUV are made from a rubber compound with an extremely durable aramid fiber, also used in body armor.

Bridgestone

The Japanese tire manufacturer Bridgestone has presented two new products for the current season. The premium non-studded model has become the key for the brand. The tire is known in the domestic Japanese market as the Blizzak VRX2 and has been successfully sold there since the fall of 2017. The novelty has a multifunctional tread with an innovative pattern that improves traction. The increased number of sipes contributes to efficient traction and braking performance. Thanks to the self-locking effect, the engineers managed to maintain the rigidity of the blocks necessary for stable and precise controllability. The new tread compound is based on the patented Multicell Compound II technology, which provides a tighter contact with the road. Bridgestone technicians have integrated micropores and cavities into the tread compound to absorb water from the road surface. This allows the tread to come into contact with the hard surface of the ice, which guarantees a secure grip.

The second novelty of the company was the model presented this year. Motorists with more than ten years of experience remember the legendary Ice Cruiser 7000. Modification with the letter S, as planned by the Japanese, should repeat the success of its prototype. To meet modern trends, the new product has been updated with a sidewall new logo companies. After identifying the cause of the noise, Bridgestone engineers optimized the stud lengths, which significantly improved acoustic comfort.

The Korean company Hankook has introduced two winter novelties to the market: the non-studded Winter i * cept X RW10 model and the Winter i * pike RS2 W429 studded tire for harsh winter conditions. The non-studded novelty is targeted at the fast-growing crossover segment that needs reliable grip in harsh winter conditions. The tread of the novelty has a V-shaped architecture with sharp edges, which ensure high traction and grip characteristics and good handling on wet road surfaces. The increased number of grooves and self-locking sipes ensured a high level of safety on snow and ice, even with dynamic driving style. The Grip Claw's sharp, three-dimensional edges provide grip on snow, and stepped notches prevent snow from accumulating when accelerating or braking on ice. Zigzag grooves effectively protect against aquaplaning, providing rapid drainage of water from the contact patch. A system of special moisture-absorbing holes prevents slipping on melted snow. Zig-zag shoulder blocks provide even pressure distribution over the shoulder edges.

The studded tire has been specially designed for harsh winter conditions. Thanks to the new Snow Slit tread design with increased number of studs, as well as a new rubber compound, the tire has outstanding performance characteristics on all winter surfaces: on snow and ice. Zig-zag grooves provide improved traction in deep snow, while fang-shaped edges on both sides of the tread improve traction on rolled snow. Spiral boosters in shoulder grooves effectively drain water from the contact patch on icy road surfaces.

Kormoran

For the upcoming winter season 2018-2019, Kormoran is focusing on the Stud 2 studded passenger car tire and the Snow non-studded tire. The tires have an identical directional tread pattern that has proven to be an effective tool on difficult winter roads. Despite its external similarity, the tire tread has a number of significant differences from the Snow tire. As befits a studded tire, it is designed to provide reliable performance on ice in harsh winter conditions. The tread blocks, in which the cleats are integrated, have been significantly reinforced by reducing the number of sipes. Among other things, the tire uses dual compound technology, softer at the tire-to-road patch and stiffer at the base of the carcass. This effectively protects the tire from premature stud loss, extending its useful life.

Directional tire tread consists of blocks combined into five longitudinal ribs. This architecture provided reliable traction and short braking distances on any type of winter surface. The diagonal direction of the blocks and the variable pitch of the blocks of the shoulder zones of the tread significantly improved comfort indicators and reduced noise levels. The network of multidirectional grooves quickly removes water and slurry from the contact patch, preventing the occurrence of aquaplaning. The central tread blocks, combined into a solid central rib, guarantee a high level of directional stability and precise steering response during high-speed maneuvering.

Korean car tire manufacturer Nexen has high hopes for the WinGuard Sport 2 SUV and WinGuard Ice 2 models presented this year. The SUV is a non-studded winter tire designed for modern sports cars. She has already won the prestigious iF Design Awards 2018. The tread with directional V-shaped pattern became the merit. It has improved grip on wet, snowy and icy surfaces, thanks to 17 percent more engagement edges and 3D sipes, and an updated rubber compound with a high silica content. It has a high elasticity index, which allows it to effectively use the tire in harsh winter conditions.

Nexen WinGuard Ice 2 non-studded winter tires are designed for a wide range of passenger cars operating in harsh winter conditions. The manufacturer focuses on high braking performance on ice and stable handling on snowy roads. Novica has a pronounced asymmetric tread pattern with densely spaced three-dimensional sipes that improve grip on winter roads. The new rubber compound with the inclusion of silica and secret components helps maintain elasticity at low temperatures and optimizes tire grip during thaw.

The Japanese company Toyo will be presented this season with two new products: a studded tire and a friction model for Snowprox S954 SUV crossovers. The studded novelty is intended to replace the previous generation Observe G3-ice model, which appeared on the Russian market in 2013. Thanks to the use of twin blocks, the Japanese specialists managed to increase the positive profile of the tire, which allowed to optimize the distribution of the studs in 28 lines. This significantly improved the tire's grip on ice. The tread blocks feature a multitude of multidirectional wavy 3D sipes, providing confident maneuverability when turning the steering wheel in any direction. For efficient movement in deep snow, the tire is equipped with special Snow Blade lugs that act as hooks. The new Ice Force cleat has a wider flange for 20 percent better cleat retention and a pentagonal carbide tip for better grip on ice.

The wide tread of the new Toyo Snowprox S954 SUV tire provides heavy SUV drivers with excellent handling. The combination of sipes of different thickness contributes to an even distribution of pressure in the contact patch, improving grip on wet road surfaces while maintaining high snow characteristics. A new rubber compound containing highly dispersed silica and active polymers was developed especially for the novelty. It reduces heat generation, reduces rolling resistance and improves grip on wet surfaces.
