In addition to a small screen, the dial has an activity scale, which is marked in the range from 0 to 100. Such additional dials are often found on analog smartwatches and show how much (in percentage) you have already passed in relation to your daily goal.

Steel HR is available in two sizes: 36 and 40 mm. I have worn the 40mm Steel HR and I can see that they are still significantly smaller than other watches I have tested - and slimmer as well. Their weight was barely felt on the wrist, and the velvety rubber strap was the best in this roundup. The watch goes well with a formal attire.

When you press the crown, the already mentioned screen turns on, which shows the date, time (which is completely redundant), heart rate, steps, distance traveled, alarm settings, battery life and calories burned. All this information can be studied in more detail in a special application. The clock is automatically synchronized with the application; if you think that it goes without saying, I hasten to dissuade you.

I noticed only a few problems: it takes a few seconds to record the heart rate, and the battery lasts about two weeks under heavy use instead of the stated 25 days.

Apart from that, the Steel HR turned out to be the most functional watch in the review, at a very competitive price of $ 180.

Mondaine Helvetica 1 Smart

Helvetica 1 Smart is one of three smartwatch models developed by the Swiss manufacturer Manufacture Modules Technologies, or MMT. Mondaine Helvetica Smart is a damn beautiful watch with sharp black hands and stylish numerals on a white dial. The massively chamfered steel housing is large and massive (44 mm) with plenty of room for sensors to track your activity. Their indicators are displayed on a stylish sub-dial at the bottom of the watch. When I need to look more formal, I wear this watch.

Alas, as a smartwatch, Mondaine is not overly impressive. Synchronization with the proprietary MotionX application has to be done manually by pressing the crown of the watch. I quickly found out that syncing works best when you put your phone on a table and hold the watch directly above it, just a few centimeters away.

The sleep tracking app works much like Withings, minus the heart rate that Mondaine doesn't record. Mondaine's “Activity Chart” looks obscure at best, and the app's “trainer tips” range from weird to creepy (“Unusual fact about a dream: we can only dream of faces that we have seen in reality, whether it is consciously or not ").

The massive body on a hard leather strap also presents a problem: it's not that good for training or sleeping. The weight and size of the watch did not bother me much when running or playing football, but the leather belt quickly began to slip due to sweat. Of the positive qualities, we can note the fact that one battery lasts for two years.

Finally, the price should be mentioned: this watch will set you back $ 950, while the rest of the models in this review are under $ 200. For this money, you get a completely stylish analog watch and a relatively convenient, albeit not perfect, fitness tracker. But I must admit, this is the only hybrid smartwatch that has brought me compliments.

Fossil Q Crewmaster

The Fossil Q Crewmaster is the Arnold Schwarzenegger watch: it's huge, funny and a little absurd. They combine the massiveness of a water-resistant watch with the sophistication of a chronograph, and the dial's colors are reminiscent of the flag of an exotic country.

All in all, if you like to grab attention, this is a great option.

Despite the huge diameter (46 mm), they differ little in thickness from other watches in the review. They do not get in the way during training - the wide rubber strap keeps them well on the wrist. The bezel rotates like a real diving watch. This is the only watch that I was not afraid to wear in the shower.

Unfortunately, the fun of using Fossil is undermined by the proprietary Q App. It tracks sleep and activity, but only displays the data in the form of a pie chart that shows how close you are to your goal. In other words, you can see the total duration of sleep and exercise, but not data about when exactly you moved the most actively or how many calories burned during a particular exercise. Information presented this way is difficult to trust.

The clock controls are a bit smarter. Pressing the crown allows you to switch between different time display modes and shows the alarm status.

There are two more buttons next to the head - the top one should theoretically display the date (I was never able to get it to work), and the second one can be configured to perform various tasks, such as controlling music or the camera on the phone. However, with its help I only managed to increase the volume of the ringtone. This watch costs $ 155.

Timex IQ + Move

IQ + from Timex - cheapest watch on this list: $ 149 Alas, this is not cheap enough to justify all the disadvantages.

Outwardly, this is a pretty watch with a very traditional case and crown. An activity subdial is elegantly positioned between 3 and 6 o'clock. It is also the only watch in this review that has a second hand - usually it works exactly as its name, but it can be set to other functions.

Then things get a little sadder. Reflective markers on the dial are difficult to see unless the light hits them directly. The leather strap is stiff, a little ugly, not very comfortable and poorly suited for training (however, there is a complete set with a rubber strap, with which everything is fine).

The app is even more frustrating. Of all the watches that I tested, the synchronization was the least convenient with Timex. First, you must first press the sync button in the app, then press the crown for five seconds, and then wait another ten seconds or so for them to sync.

Finally, there are no detailed statistics in the app. Steps, distance, calories burned, and sleep are all displayed as meaningless pie charts. Clicking on them displays the statistics of the week in the form histogramsthat looks like it was done by a fifth grader.

The watch has an alarm and a timer for the watch, and the second hand can be used to display the date (and that's awkward) or activity (and that's redundant). None of these features are enough to recommend IQ +.

The Montblanc Summit watch runs WearOS (this is the former Android Wear) based on the Snapdragon 2100 processor. There are 4 GB of internal memory, 512 RAM, from sensors - Wi-fi, Bluetooth, an optical heart rate monitor.

The set of characteristics is, say, basic, but they are quite enough. The clock works quickly, correctly, although, to be honest, I did not load them with a large volume of tasks. My model of using the watch is pretty calm.

I must say that with the Wi-fi module, smart watches on WearOS (Android Wear) made at least some sense for me. I divided part of the applications between two gadgets, and now I was able to receive part of the notifications exclusively for the clock. Considering that the watch "drags" the Internet via Bluetooth from a smartphone, they don't need constant synchronization with a Wi-fi network, which prolongs autonomy for some time.

In this sense, WearOS, unfortunately, is still vulnerable: a Montblanc watch will work for about a day, however, the charging time to a full battery is quite comfortable - one and a half to two hours. Additional features include IP68 protection (against splashes, dust).

The system is hardly worth making any verdict, but on the whole, everything has become more convenient and logical, in my opinion. The leading role is now played not by your smartphone, but by the Google application store, from which you download everything you need (and everything that is compatible with a particular model).

To the extent that YouTube can be watched, well, beauty!

The watch comes preloaded with Uber, Runtastic (Multi-Month Subscription), Foursquare, and World Time. At the same time, the watch is not positioned as a sports watch, but rather an accessory for business.

Meanwhile, the heart rate monitor is quite accurate here if we are talking about the heart rate at rest or the usual rhythm of life. In comparison with a portable ECG heart rate monitor, the sensor does not cause any complaints.

The watch is equipped with an AMOLED display with a resolution of 400x400, Multitouch. The most important thing that I would like to note is that it does not have a frankly annoying strip below.

Watch faces can be selected from the watch or through the app.

For some of them, the so-called "complications" are provided. In addition to the main one - time - on the main screen, you can take out some other data allowed by the system.

The WearOS home screen for Summit gives you access to several settings. Here you can configure background always sync, notification mode, calendar, and access advanced options.

You can customize the device in other "handy" ways. The easiest one is probably to dig into IFTTT, which is available when installed on a smartphone and for a watch. I do not want to claim that I took the most obligatory opportunity, but as an example:

Design

Here I would like to start with the fact that this point can be viewed from two sides. One point of view was voiced by the portal Wareable, which I respect, which gave the three for the design.

Perhaps I disagree with this wording. In any case, one cannot help but understand that no watchmaker invents design for smart collections! The other day presented by Hublot smartwatches on WearOS is a reissue of the existing range, Tag Heuer is the same, Frederique Constant and Breitling are the same. No one comes up with a new design for a smart watch, everyone packs sensors into existing cases.

For the smartwatch collection, Montblanc has also chosen its permanent collection "1858". And I must say that here Montblanc stands out among its competitors, which I especially liked.

For all major manufacturers, smartwatches have become a reason for "extra charge". For example, the cheapest Tag Heuer model can be bought for 55 thousand, smart ones - from 70; Frederique Constant - from 30 thousand, smart - from 70. And only Montblanc smart watches are the cheapest in the range of watches in principle.

In this case, Montblanc saves money on the mechanism due to electronic filling and allows its customers to save money. Is it logical? It is logical!

Continuing to talk about design, I must say that "simplicity" in general is characteristic of Montblanc collections. Both male and female models are quite strict.

At least, the watch case is almost always smooth, and only in some sports models the bezel is additionally decorated (there is also inlay in the women's versions). In other words, I would say then not a simple design, but a design that is a traditional for Montblanc, we have a watch in a smooth steel case.

The only thing that will somehow give out the watch brand to outsiders is the logo neatly inscribed in the crown.

It adorns the only active button with which the watch is turned on and also serves as a "return to the menu" function. It is strange that the crown itself does not rotate. This would be a nice scrolling control in the menu. For example, I would like to be able to make less contact with the display with my finger, so as not to slap it corny.

The watch has been assembled flawlessly. Wareable, by the way, also notes this. They say they are simple, but the build quality and materials are at their best. They feel on the hand, you feel them, and it's nice. However, the weight is quite "lifting" - only 91 grams.

Supplied with a soft calfskin leather strap. No thread sticks out, no traces of trimming. Even in places of permanent folds over time, although "wrinkles" appear, they are still not cracks that become overgrown with fringes.

As a subtotal, I would like to note that it is quite difficult to praise or scold the watch. In terms of the part Montblanc was responsible for, everything is fine. WearOS, in principle, also works pretty predictably.

It should be noted that no one initially misleads anyone. As for the battery, the official website says how long it works. This is how long he works. It is written that it takes one and a half to two hours to charge - that is how much it charges.

How much RAM is enough until Android starts to slow down, we can all predict. For the rest, the built-in app store is quite capable of complementing what may be missing, from notifications to watch faces.

Therefore, it seems like it is unfair to praise Montblanc, but to criticize Google at the same time, after all, there is only one product, but on the whole it is more likely a positive product. I will say that, in my opinion, the integration with Runtastic looks strange - the watch is not positioned as a sports watch, it does not have built-in GPS, and workouts can be started perfectly with Google Fit.

Also, I would probably like to have NFC, because for some time I became convinced that contactless payments are convenient. Everything else was enough for me. I got used to the autonomy of smart watches within a day and did not expect otherwise.

Plus, it seemed to me the right concept to make a gadget watch cheaper than an ordinary watch, and so far, it seems, no one from luxury brands has been able to brag about it.

Who should buy?

My opinion, probably, cannot be authoritative here. However, I will share it. From the very beginning, I approached the choice of watches in this way: you can do it or you can not do it. Many can handle just one smartphone.

I decided that it was impossible. Then I decided if I could get by with a clock that just shows the time, or if I need a clock like " status“And it turned out that I mean the second thing in the concept of“ watch ”, and I want to wear not just something with arrows on my wrist, but some kind of history.

As a result, I divided brands into those who, say, are ready to work with the middle class, and those who are not ready, and by the age of 30 they bought (in my opinion, inexpensive) Swiss watches within 50 thousand rubles.

If you follow my logic, and I am convinced that there are such people, then Montblanc smart watches are an excellent choice in terms of price and quality. Especially it is worth paying attention to them, for example, for those who would like to have a prestigious accessory, but also see no point in giving up smart "trend" opportunities. There is no watch of this class in this price category.

As I understand it, the company also wants to increase awareness among a young audience, and smart gadgets are part of this strategy. To be honest, it's still difficult for me to imagine a student with a smart pen for 50 thousand, but I myself, and I still consider myself still young, have an interest in Montblanc pens. WearOS on IOS

In fact, when Google announced this month that it was “shutting down” Android Wear in favor of WearOS, it was emphasized that it was doing this in order to increase the popularity of the devices among Apple users.

A number of improvements were promised in the future, including synchronization with Google Fit, and I must say that the watch with the IPhone works correctly, there are no significant differences, in general. Account notifications come, and everything else is configured offline through the app store.

Perhaps the only difference is that there are no dials in the main menu: they will need to be adjusted through the clock.

Synchronization with Google fitness service has already been added here. The settings at the bottom of the screen are the same, but the advanced ones have slightly decreased.

However, this does not affect the quality of the watch. All the basic features of WearOS, and this is primarily a quick notification of events on a smartphone, the watch continues to function properly and paired with an IPhone.
