What material is the iPhone 7 made of. The rear camera is still bulging. Innovative iPhone features

As always, I'm not doing a simple iPhone review, I'm sharing my impressions of the new product. As soon as the iPhone 7 arrived at my place, I used it for literally a few hours and took off the first ones. In the same article, I made a comparison with the iPhone 6s. Now let's put everything on the shelves and highlight the main changes in the smartphone.

Design and ergonomics

The appearance of the smartphone has practically not changed, and we see Apple smartphones in this design for the third year in a row. Someone tell me what the money is paid to Ive?

The explanations are as follows - the design has changed. There are no longer those terrible antenna stripes that annoyed not only me (they are, but in the color of the body, and go along the edge).

The camera was now placed by a designer, not a schoolboy, because in 6s and 6s it was simply inserted at random. The iPhone 7 combines the lens with the rounding around it, as well as the rounding of the body itself.

There are also two new colors available: matte black and jet black. Phones in the latter color are very easily soiled and prone to scratches, like iPods in the best of times. Even Apple warns about this on the website, but it looks really cool. Therefore, they were immediately dismantled at the start.

In general, the design was nevertheless refreshed, removing all the shortcomings of the previous version. But these changes are noticeable either by color or by looking at the back cover of the smartphone. That is why a photo of the back of the iPhone was placed on the box, otherwise it would not be distinguished. Especially in gray or gold.

It's 2016, which means the iPhone is already 9 years old. Next year, the 10th anniversary iPhone will be presented, and it seems to me that Apple did not specifically change the design of the iPhone 7, making it fresh so that all design delights could be implemented in the 10th iPhone. It may not be called 7s or 8, but simply iPhone. These are all thoughts, but, as it seems to me, it would not be entirely logical to release the tenth iPhone 7s model - an improved “seven”.

In terms of controls, everything is the same as before. I am very glad that the lever for switching to silent mode has not gone anywhere. There were rumors that he might be removed.

Display

The screen has hardly changed. The iPhone 7 has a 4.7 ″ matrix with a resolution of 750 x 1334, the pixel density of the iPhone 4 - 326 dpi. On the one hand, this is enough, on the other - we could have already inserted Full HD into both models, then the applications would not have to be rewritten, and the pixel would be impossible to see. But the resolution will be changed, I think, either next year or in a generation. Also, the type of matrix has not changed - IPS. Although there were rumors that AMOLED could be installed. I think we will still see organic matrices in the iPhone, but, again, in the next generations.

Of the changes, more saturated colors and a 25% increase in maximum brightness are noted. However, I didn't notice it (as expected). The only thing is that in my copy of the iPhone 7 the colors are warmer than in the one year old iPhone 6s. In fact, in my 6s the picture looks more pleasant because of this, on the “seven” it is as if the Night Shift mode is already switched on out of the box to the weakest level. But in general, the quality is still very good, it is pleasant to use a device with such a display. Well, the dimensions - 4.7 ″ are still enough for comfortable use with one hand, this is important for many.

Separately, I note that the protective glass of the display, judging by the tests, has become more resistant to scratches than Gorilla Glass 5. And also from personal experience I note that it is very hard and, with strong pressure on the screen, stains do not float across the matrix. Unlike the vast majority of smartphones with IPS displays.

Cameras

It is the photo and video capabilities that have undergone the most changes. Let's talk about the iPhone 7 Plus separately, but now even the iPhone 7 has optical stabilization. It is very cool! Now the likelihood of getting a blur in the photo, especially in low light, is less, and the video floats like on rails. The matrix is still 12 MP, its size has not changed. The flash has become four-element. As for me, this is important for the flashlight function, but not for the camera. And most importantly - the aperture is now f1.8, before it was f2.2. This should give a better background blur when photographing nearby objects, as well as improve the quality in the dark. I checked the latter in almost complete darkness - the light really gets in more, this is noticeable. But in the afternoon we get photos similar in quality to 6s. What can not be said about video, stabilization works well.

Well, one cannot fail to mention the front camera, which is now 7 MP and takes very good selfies, as well as shoots video in 1080p. Finally, Apple! The iPhone is now very well suited for vlogging.

Sound

Of course, I won't miss the 3.5mm jack that Apple dropped in the iPhone 7. What do I think about this? The connector is really old, it came to us from the 80s. And in smartphones, it began to appear en masse precisely because of Apple, before the iPhone it could be found in only a few phones. All the rest had either proprietary connectors or 2.5mm. Now Apple is removing mini Jack from smartphones. Further, it will most likely disappear from the iPad and possibly from the MacBook.

Naturally, other manufacturers will also start abandoning this connector, and some have already given up. For example, Moto and some Chinese brands. And for me personally, this is not a problem at all, I will not even notice that the connector has disappeared, because I have been using BT headphones and speakers for several years. Alternatively, you can use the supplied Lighting to 3.5mm adapter, or immediately purchase headphones with Lightning.

However, there are special cases. For example, there are accessories for guitarists that can be used to record “train” via 3.5mm jack. That's where the analog input is needed! Or how to monitor the recording now when you connect the microphone via Lightning? Adapters, doubles and so on ... Yes, these problems will not affect the majority, but some will upset.

Also keep in mind that BT audio transmission introduces delays. That is, if you try to play drums in wireless headphones, you will not succeed, because the sound will come to your ears only after a second or a half after pressing the screen.

The second sound change in iPhone 7 is the addition of a second speaker, now we have stereo sound. But the second speaker is not located where everyone was expecting it (under the left grill at the bottom of the smartphone), now its role is played by the conversational speaker. I thought that such a solution would be a compromise and the sound from the spoken speaker would be much inferior to the main one, but this turned out to be not the case. The sound really impressed me, now playing the same tanks with sound is much more pleasant. It is two times louder, and stereo, and the speakers are sufficiently spaced from each other, so that the effect is palpable. But the HTC One M8, for example, is still far from the iPhone.

Home key

Another important change is the “sensing”, so to speak, of the Home key. Yes, I invented this word myself. Since the very first version, this key has been in all iPhones and iPads, and has always been mechanical. The iPhone 5s has a fingerprint scanner built into it, and now it's made a touchscreen. That is, it is there, looks as usual, but is not pressed.

I hate such decisions in Moto and OnePlus - you push, but nothing happens. But here the new Taptic Engine is involved, which took up part of the space freed from the 3.5mm jack. And the feeling is very cool! That is, you seem to really press a key, you feel a real pressing! Moreover, this push can be adjusted for yourself by choosing one of the three proposed options.

In addition, now the key will definitely not break. Also, the lack of mechanics went to the advantage of protecting the device from moisture. What we’ll talk about now.

IP67

Yes, this is what I was waiting for the most! The iPhone is finally waterproof. This standard allows the device to stay at a depth of up to a meter for 30 minutes, but there are already tests on the network demonstrating that Apple has indicated IP67 protection with a large margin of safety. That is, getting caught in a downpour, swimming in the pool or taking a smartphone into the shower is not a problem at all. For me, this means that I can not bathe and run with my iPhone even in the rain, take pictures in the rain, and so on. But for most, it is important that the smartphone is insured against accidental wetting, and you no longer need to keep a bowl of rice on hand.

Specifications and software

The Apple A10 Fusion processor in the iPhone 7 is now quad-core and works like in Samsung: two high-performance cores with a maximum frequency of 2.23 GHz, and two more cores run at up to 1.4 GHz and are used for undemanding tasks. According to Apple, the new processor paired with new graphics makes the smartphone 40% faster than the 6s. In our tests, the iPhone 7 is the fastest smartphone on the market.

The amount of built-in storage for each version of the iPhone has doubled, now modifications are available for 32, 128 and 256 GB. Finally 16 GB is gone! Even cooler, the prices haven't changed, with the base 32GB model going for $ 649.

I am very glad that the battery capacity has increased, now it is 1960 mAh, against 1715 in the iPhone 6s. This should add the promised several hours to autonomy, not only in words, but also in practice. It would be bad if Apple just limited itself to software adaptation and words about energy efficient hardware. In general, the sacrifice of 3.5mm was not in vain.

The software is the same as on the iPhone 6s with iOS10. I will not dwell on the operating system in detail.

Output

Should you buy a new iPhone? My opinion may not be the same as yours, but if you're using an iPhone 6 or older, it's worth it. There are too many improvements here, and interesting and useful. In short, please yourself! Well, if you have an iPhone 6s, then you need to think more carefully. In terms of speed, smartphones almost do not differ (only in benchmarks), the cameras are similar, the 6s still has a 3.5mm jack. That is, it is worth buying if you really need moisture protection and a good front camera. Well, or you just want a new color :)

I really liked the smartphone, Apple was able to surprise again. At least, this is not my completely preconceived opinion!

Detailed review of the iPhone 7.

Should you buy a "seven"? In our in-depth review of the iPhone 7, we have listed all the pros and cons of this Apple smartphone, and at the same time, identified the people for whom the iPhone 7 is best suited.

Current prices for the new official iPhone 7

 • iPhone 7 32GB - 34,990 rbl .
 • iPhone 7 128GB - 43,990 rbl .

Contents of delivery

The package bundle of the iPhone 7, albeit not strikingly, differs from the bundle of previous Apple smartphones. Let's start with the fact that the packaging of the “seven” itself looks somewhat different, on the front side of which the rear panel of the smartphone is shown. In the case of the iPhone 7 in onyx black, the box is painted in the same black - a non-standard solution for the iPhone and, frankly speaking, successful. All other models, including the matt version, are supplied in white packaging.

Inside the package, the first thing you come across is an envelope with documentation. Both the envelope and the documentation received a new design - now in their form they resemble counterparts from the Apple Watch boxes. Next is the smartphone itself, securely covered with protective films, a charger, a Lightning / USB cable, EarPods with a Lightning connector and an adapter from Lightning to a 3.5mm connector in white. Moreover, it is white even in the case of black iPhone 7, which is a little unpleasant - this combination looks weak.

The adapter itself is small, thin and, as it were, immediately hinting that it must be used with the utmost care, otherwise it will start to tear. It is better to heed the unspoken advice of the adapter - its cost in the official Apple store is a considerable 799 rubles, and analogs from third-party iPhone manufacturers may simply not be accepted.

Design

We figured out the package bundle, we take the iPhone 7 itself, in our case, in matte black. The first emotion that arises after contact with the "seven" is surprise. You are surprised how, with such a relatively small number of external differences from the iPhone 6s, the novelty feels completely different. Having held the iPhone 7 in your hands for a little longer, you realize that the main surprise is the integrity of the device's case, which Apple managed to achieve.

More solid iPhone 7 makes several parts at once. First of all, these are alternatively located antenna inserts, which in new Apple smartphones have moved to the upper and lower parts of the back cover. In the case of the iPhone 7 in the black case, these stripes are almost invisible (in the “black onyx” color it is difficult to see them at all), which creates the feeling that there are no inserts at all. If we talk about "sevens" in silver, pink and gold colors, then their antenna inserts are visible. However, they do not focus attention on themselves, due to the new location.

The aluminum coating has changed, however, not externally, but by touch. The body feels smoother than the body of the iPhone 6s, which makes it much more pleasant to hold the smartphone. Despite this, the iPhone 7 does not slip in the hand, holding on quite confidently even without a case. The back cover gets dirty with prints pretty quickly, but there is no particular difficulty in cleaning it.

The iPhone 7's camera is visually larger compared to previous Apple smartphones. It sticks out from the body, as before, but the protrusion is felt and looks more massive and serious. While looking at the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s one might think that the protruding camera looks out of place, in the case of the iPhone 7, such thoughts do not arise.

Specifically, the matte black version of the iPhone 7 has another plus in terms of design. The inscriptions on the back cover are clearly visible only if you look at the smartphone from a certain angle. In most cases, they are invisible due to some kind of special paint, which makes the appearance of the device even more solid. The same cannot be said about the iPhone 7 in other colors - the inscriptions on their back covers are clearly visible.

The volume keys have not changed in height, but visually it seems that they stick out less from the body. The Power button also looks the same at first, but the very first attempt to find it indicates the opposite. It feels somewhat sharper, due to which it became much easier to find it.

There is only one difference on the lower edge of the iPhone 7, but what a difference! The place of the 3.5 mm audio output (which the smartphone does not have) was taken by the second speaker grill. It performs an exclusively decorative function - the first analyzes of the iPhone 7 showed that there is no additional speaker under it, and it was installed to ensure visual symmetry.

As for the front of the iPhone 7, not everyone will be able to distinguish the "seven" from the iPhone 6s. When the display of the smartphone is turned off, only the Home button, which has changed in appearance, allows to identify the new Apple product. There are no other differences.

And this, perhaps, is the only drawback of the iPhone 7 design - it is too similar to the iPhone 6s. Yes, the iPhone 7 is more solid. Yes, the design of two years ago at Apple was brought to perfection, tightening seemingly imperceptible moments. But for many, these improvements are not enough. So, if you buy an iPhone 7 in one of the already familiar colors, or put a smartphone in one of the black colors in a case (which is highly recommended), there will be practically no difference in comparison with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s. Many will say that thanks to this you will not have to get used to the smartphone and will be right. Until they try to hit the new Home button.

Home button

You will have to get used to the Home button in the iPhone 7 due to the fact that it is not mechanical, but touch-sensitive in the new Apple smartphone. That is, you do not need to press it to return to the main screen or call Siri, and it makes no sense - there is no mechanical movement of the button. However, the habit developed over the years of using mechanical buttons Home, over and over again makes the button press.

Fortunately, Apple did not leave its customers with an indifferent touch sensor, providing it with the ability to simulate pressing. The Taptic Engine is responsible for the tactile feedback of the new Home touch button. Before starting to use the smartphone, the system offers to configure it, choosing the degree of impact that is most pleasant to the user. There are three of them - the differences lie in the perceptibility. If in the future there is a desire to change the degree of return, then this can be done in the smartphone settings.

The main disadvantage of the Home button is not the need to waste time, and in some cases nerves, getting used to it. When designing the touch button in California, Apple engineers did not seem to think much about the places where people wear gloves in winter. In them, touching the Home button does not lead to anything - the sensor has no contact with the skin, which means that the command is not perceived by it.

As for the fingerprint scanner, it is installed in the second generation iPhone 7, the same as in the iPhone 6s. Nevertheless, due to the new generation processor, the fingerprint is recognized even faster (although it would seem much faster).

Dust and water resistant

Ditching the 3.5mm audio jack and mechanical Home button allowed Apple to equip the iPhone 7 with IP67 water, splash and dust resistance without additional headaches. Thanks to her, the smartphone is not afraid of direct water hit and even diving to a depth of one meter for 30 minutes.

It is important to understand that we are talking specifically about resistance - full water resistance is not declared by Apple. This, in turn, means that an iPhone 7 that has been damaged by water, even if it is in very short-term contact with water, will not be repaired under warranty.

However, you should not be afraid of poor water protection. All sorts of tests indicate that the iPhone 7 is able to withstand immersion even to great depths. Without claiming full water resistance, Apple simply decided to play it safe, at the same time protecting people from unnecessary experiments.

Display

The main features of the iPhone 7 display are the same as those of the iPhone 6s. Before us is the same 4.7-inch IPS Retina HD display with a resolution of 1334 × 750 pixels (326 ppi), a contrast ratio of 1400: 1 and support for 3D Touch. And it seems like you could get upset and go and write somewhere an angry review about "Apple innovations" if not for two major differences.

The iPhone 7 has a maximum display brightness of 625 cd / m², which is 25% more than the iPhone 6s. The difference in brightness is especially noticeable if you put two smartphones next to each other, while it is clear that it is not the "seven" that is blind, namely the iPhone 6s lacks that brightness. The second difference between the iPhone 7 display and its predecessor is the extended color gamut. It makes the colors on the screen of the new Apple smartphone appear more saturated.

Separately, we note that the pictures do not fully convey the difference in brightness and color saturation. Or rather, they transmit poorly. When you compare the displays of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 7 live, the difference is literally striking. After using the "seven" for a while, it becomes somehow unpleasant to return to the iPhone 6s. Fortunately, the feeling of discomfort goes away after some time.

Sound

iPhone 7 sounds much louder and more voluminous than its predecessor, which is not surprising - for the first time in the history of the iPhone, the new product received stereo speakers. One speaker, spoken, is located on top, the second - in its usual place at the bottom of the case. The speakers of the iPhone 7 sound, albeit louder, but in quality they differ little from a single speaker of the same iPhone 6s. It is difficult to call it a minus (after all, the sound is excellent), but expect that with a loudness the "seven" will delight and do not need some super amazing sound - we warned.

EarPods, which now have a Lightning connector, sound like regular EarPods. Improvements in sound quality due to the use of digital instead of analog are not audible, although experts have repeatedly argued that the sound will be cleaner. Perhaps the problem lies in the use of EarPods and on more expensive headphones the difference will be noticeable.

Performance

iPhone 7 is the most powerful smartphone not only in Apple's lineup, but in the entire market. Responsible for the performance of "seven" 64-bit quad-core processor A10 Fusion. Not all A10 Fusion cores run at the same speed. Two of them are focused on fast computing and are clocked at 2.34 GHz, the other two are aimed at maximum power saving and operate at a frequency of 1.1 GHz.

The peculiarity of this separation is that when the highest performance is required from the iPhone 7, all the cores come into operation, which cope with any task with incredible ease. When the smartphone is used in everyday mode, the processor "rests" and thus does not consume valuable energy. The iPhone 7 has 2GB of RAM. 3 GB of RAM became a feature of the 5.5-inch model.

At the moment, however, the full power of the iPhone 7 and the A10 Fusion processor has not been revealed. Most third-party developers have yet to adapt their apps for the iPhone 7, and only then will they work as they should. As for everything standard, there are no complaints about the "seven" - the system simply "flies" on it.

Indicate the potential power of the iPhone 7 and synthetic benchmarks. Testing in Geekbench, the smartphone passed 3462 points in single-core and 5595 in multi-core mode. The iPhone 7 delivers outstanding performance even when running a large number of applications or games. First, already optimized applications are launched instantly. Second, switching between already running applications is carried out instantly, even if the selected application was last opened an hour ago.

Built-in memory

A separate item needs to be written about the built-in memory of the iPhone 7. It has doubled in comparison with the iPhone 6s - 32, 128 and 256 GB, depending on the configuration. Finally, in 2016, Apple realized that 16 GB would not go far, and abandoned the idea of equipping not the cheapest smartphones with such, to put it mildly, a modest amount of memory. The choice of the amount of memory depends entirely on the needs of the person. Do you enjoy taking apart your media library from time to time, sorting footage and deleting it from iPhone memory? Get the 32GB iPhone 7, you can't go wrong. Do you want everything to be stored directly on your smartphone and always available? iPhone 7 128GB is your choice. The 256-gigabyte version is not very clear to whom to advise, perhaps only the maximalists. Not everyone will be able to score this amount of memory.

Battery

Last year's flagship Apple, the iPhone 6s, surprised many by the fact that its battery capacity was less than that of the previous generation smartphone. In the case of the iPhone 7, the situation, fortunately, did not repeat itself - the new product received an increased, albeit not significantly, battery capacity.

The iPhone 7 has a 1,960 mAh battery, 210 mAh more than the iPhone 6s. The increase in battery life, despite not the most impressive increase in battery capacity, was a full two hours. 120 minutes of additional work without the need to recharge on paper may not impress, but in fact - there really are absolutely no problems with a constantly discharging iPhone.

Cameras

The main camera of the iPhone 7 has a resolution of 12MP, a six-element lens, ƒ / 1.8 aperture and optical image stabilization, which is the first to reach the 4.7-inch iPhone. Technically, the camera of the “seven” has received quite a noticeable improvement over the iPhone 6s, but is the difference actually visible?

In good light, the difference between the cameras is only that the camera of the "seven" reproduces colors a little more natural, while the pictures on the iPhone 6s come out more saturated. Achieved natural images on the iPhone 7 camera thanks to its expanded color range. In terms of detail, both cameras are comparable and really significant differences can not be seen in the pictures.

Business Center Oruzheiny, Moscow

But in low light, the camera on the iPhone 7, which lets in more light at f / 1.8, confidently pulls ahead. This is far from the level of the Galaxy S7, but it is quite possible to take pictures in the evening and at night, even if there will be a lot of noise on them.

Moscow, metro Timiryazevskaya. View of the Ostankino TV tower

It should be noted that in terms of the iPhone 7 camera software, not everything is perfect. When you press the shutter, the smartphone does not work instantly, at some moments it seems that even very slowly. A separate headache is shooting moving objects. In most cases, such pictures are blurry, you have to reshoot. Soothes the process of shooting video, which is painless. iPhone 7 shoots 4K video at 30fps, 1080p at 30 / 60fps, or 720p at 30fps. In all modes, the videos are excellent and stable - optical stabilization is felt especially well when shooting video.

For those who like to shoot in the evening and at night, the iPhone 7 has a new True Tone Quad-LED flash with four LEDs (two cool and two warm shades). The flash gives 50% more light than its counterpart in the iPhone 6s - a tangible difference.

There are no complaints about the front camera of the iPhone 7. It has become a 7-megapixel camera, it also received an extended color range and automatic image stabilization. As a result of the improvements, the front camera of the smartphone both takes excellent, rich selfies and records video at 1080p. Oh yes. You can now do Live Photos on the front-end.

Communication

Many reviewers have missed out on yet another very nice improvement on the iPhone 7. The new cellular module of the smartphone allows you to transfer data at speeds up to 450 Mbps. This is the only improvement in terms of communication, but no less pleasant from it.

Price

 • Increased amount of internal memory.
 • More capacious battery.
 • Camera with optical image stabilization.
 • Very bright and colorful display.
 • Stereo speakers.

Minuses

 • Lack of 3.5mm audio output.
 • Not the most impressive design update.
 • Traditionally high price.

Outcome

the iPhone 7 cannot be called a revolutionary smartphone, however, and it is difficult to reproach the device for insignificance. The iPhone 7 became the first smartphone to feature a quad-core processor, stereo speakers, a Home touch button, optical image stabilization (if we talk about 4.7-inch versions), water resistance, 32 base and 256 maximum gigabytes of internal memory, and also 3. 5mm audio output. Could such a list of features appear on a slightly updated smartphone?

Of course not. But at the same time, the iPhone 7 looks too similar to the previous generation. The “seven” somewhat corrects the situation in new black colors, which look really “tasty” and fresh. Would there be such a hype for the iPhone 7, imagine Apple a novelty only in old colors? We can say with confidence that no.

So to buy or not? If you own an iPhone 6 / 6s and want to get a lot of fresh emotions by buying a new smartphone, then the iPhone 7 is not for you. In this case, it is better to buy the iPhone X - it will definitely give a feeling of novelty, but the iPhone 7 is unlikely. On the other hand, if you routinely update your iPhone every year, you shouldn't miss out on the "seven". It is better than the iPhone 6s in all respects. It's worth taking a closer look at the iPhone 7 even if you have an old iPhone model and have been thinking about updating for a long time. The iPhone 7, especially in one of the black colors, will give you a lot of new experiences.

Know and use.

So we witnessed a grand event - the release of the new flagship of the Apple iPhone 7. We present to your attention a review of the iPhone 7 in Russian. As part of the article, we will try to comprehensively highlight all possible changes made since the release of the previous device and evaluate the solutions in relation to existing competitors.

The body and its design

So, let's start the iPhone 7 review with the case material, which is made of aluminum, thanks to which it has acquired a very expensive look. The ergonomics of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are no different from other smartphones, although Apple would not have been particularly affected by usability. If the usual "seven" has dimensions of 138.3 mm67.1 mm7.1 mm with a 4.7-inch display, then the 7 Plus is already much larger 158.2 mm77.9 mm7.3 mm, since it has a 5.5-inch display.

The Apple iPhone 7 plus review cannot begin without saying more about design. In general terms, there are no special innovations, but there are some differences:

 • The volume of the protruding camera on the back has increased, there is a reason for this, which we will look at shortly;
 • The antennas have been moved to the top and bottom corners, which removes the transverse white stripes (6S Plus owners are aware of this problem);
 • Of course, the lack of an audio jack.

The iPhone 7 smartphone, as soon as it was released, immediately heated discussions about the lack of a standard headphone jack. The public did not welcome this innovation too happily, but you still will not experience significant inconvenience, since an adapter is included in the kit, so you do not have to purchase new wireless AirPods. Standard EarPods can be connected via the Lightning connector, which is of course unusual.

It should be noted that the iPhone 7 characteristics have expanded due to the introduction of water resistance, although not 100%. That is, you can shoot underwater, but no deeper than 1m for 30 minutes. To be honest, a little weak, because competitors have gone further in this regard, but even the presence of a small level of protection against pollution and water can save many smartphones. Note that the warranty does not apply due to water ingress.

Display and speakers

Now let's look at what sensations await you if you buy an Apple iPhone 7 smartphone, in terms of display. Alas, the standard version of the iPhone does not include Full HD resolution, but the 7 Plus already supports 1920 × 1080 pixels, and the smartphone itself uses LED backlighting, which makes the smartphone about 25% brighter. The device is capable of supporting and transmitting much more color gamut.

It should be noted that the iPhone 7 description and specifications have a distinctive feature as stereo speakers. Now there are several of them: above and below, it can be noted that this should have been done a long time ago. Watching movies has become more accessible and complete.

The Home button has also been redesigned, now has a pressure sensor and does not support the trackpad like the MacBook does. The feeling when pressing a button is completely different thanks to the tactile feedback. For the innovation in the answer is the Taptic Engine module. The fingerprint sensor is still there, you can still use it and it works without flaws.

iPhone 7 camera - overview

The iPhone 7 Plus uses a rather unusual solution for combining two cameras. Thus, your device has 3 cameras, including the front one. It cannot be said that this is a revolutionary solution, since this approach was used on some smartphones a year ago, but in the iPhone this technology has been refined and shows good results. The original iPhone 7 uses only one camera.

The iPhone 7 Plus features significantly higher specifications than the standard version, and we will consider its camera. Two 12MP cameras, where you'll find a wide-angle camera and a telephoto lens. One camera includes ƒ / 1.8 aperture, the other ƒ / 2.8. With these features, you have 10x digital zoom and 2x optical zoom. Dual cameras work much better with focusing. Possible shooting effects include panoramic shooting, six-element lens and exposure control.

Video recording is also up to par, with 720p 30-240fps and 1080p 30/60/120 fps supported. Advanced dual stabilization, noise reduction function, advanced face and shape recognition technology.

The front camera is also capable of 1080p HD video recording. 8MP camera with ƒ / 2.2 aperture, BSI sensor. One of the few front cameras with automatic stabilization.

IPhone 7: specifications

Here, let's see what gives the smartphone power. The processor included in the device is A10 Fusion. It has a 64-bit structure and an embedded M10 coprocessor. This processor has set a new performance record and is the most powerful in the entire line. The speed boost is up to 40% compared to the iPhone 6S, which had an A9 processor. The current solution uses 3.3bn. transistors, which is approximately 800 thousand more than in its predecessor. The performance of the graphics chip is increased by 50%.

It is also impossible to conduct a review of the iPhone 7 specifications, where not to mention the increase in the amount of RAM from 2GB to 3GB. This is far from a record amount of memory, but thanks to the iOS 10 system, it is more functional than the competitors. It should also be noted that when buying a new iPhone, there is pure iOS 10, but to receive some additions / changes, you need to immediately update to 10.0.1.

Now the battery has been increased by 5% from 2750 mAh to 2900 mAh, and the 4-core processor also includes 2 energy-efficient cores and 2 high-speed ones, which in total gives not only an increase in speed, but also maintains the previous level of consumption, if not less. And the battery life itself has been increased for the iPhone 7 by two hours, and for the 7 Plus by 1 hour.

IPhone 7 price 2016 characteristics, of course, for such a miracle you will have to fork out for 57 thousand rubles. or 68 thousand rubles. depending on the model, but using a smartphone from a global brand is clearly worth it.

So, we have taken apart the new iPhone 7 photos, the price, characteristics and all possible parameters and changes in the new model - the choice is yours. It is important to note that there are worthy competitors in some parameters, but in total it turned out to be an excellent smartphone that has no analogues.

Today, Apple fans are wondering whether it is worth changing their iPhone for a brand new iPhone 7. Some are totally against it, someone has already changed and is satisfied, while others are still hesitant. Let's try to understand this issue. So here's our iPhone 7 review.

Regardless of what is written here, Apple will not sell tens of millions of models of the new gadget in the coming months. For the first time in many years, the company did not rise after the release of the “S” model. The construction and design of the new smartphone does not differ much from the previous ones, and an ordinary user will think: “Why should I change the iPhone 6s to the iPhone 7, if it is the same, even without a headphone jack?”. In general, such a user will be right, because the iPhone is not a cheap pleasure, and it is unreasonable to change it every time a new product comes out. But this is the opinion of an ordinary user for whom the processor and RAM do not mean anything. Such statements do not mean that there are no updates in the iPhone 7. They are there and there are many of them. This is the best iPhone, it is powerful, perfect in design, especially in black variations. But most people who want to buy such a smartphone need more compelling reasons to buy.

IPhone 7 Review: Hardware

With the iPhone 7, Apple has completed what it started with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The changes continued in the past year, but the line was drawn in the iPhone 7. It might be worth making these changes in one phone, and not releasing every year, but these are the laws of the current market. As a result, we got a device that has phenomenal changes in hardware.

The biggest innovation was the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack (it really isn't there). Of course, people who have used wireless accessories before will not feel the difference. And to listen to music in the car, you can use USB or the same Bluetooth. Therefore, the lack of an AUX jack will not be a problem. For those who were upset by this news, the company put a special adapter in the box.

We remind you that Apple still bundles smartphones with headphones and they are not wireless. It's just that now they are connected via the Lightning connector. Wireless, AirPods, you have to buy yourself. A special adapter will allow you to use your old favorite headphones on the new iPhone 7.

But such a solution has both disadvantages and positive aspects. First, about the bad: first, you won't be able to charge the phone and listen to music at the same time, the connector is one; second, the use of an additional adapter entails additional difficulties in use, starting from the fact that the adapter can simply get lost or broken.

And now for the good - the 3.5 connector has already become obsolete over its 100 years and Apple, with its decision, is making a step into a new format. It is also worth adding that the sound quality and the quality of noise cancellation will now increase, because the power for these functions will come directly from the smartphone, rather than being transmitted in analog format as before.

The Home button has lost the ability to mechanically press. The clicking sensation is now produced by a haptic system that only works when the iPhone is on, otherwise it remains rigid. This change was due to the water resistance of the new iPhone. At first you feel a bit uncomfortable using the new Home button, but after a week you will get used to it. There are three levels of click hardness.

Another cool innovation is stereo sound, which is precisely provided due to the absence of a 3.5 mm jack. When watching movies or videos horizontally, the stereo effect is felt best.

The display of the new iPhone 7 is brighter than previous models, and according to DisplayMate, these are the best screens Apple has ever used to make an Apple gadget. It is easy to read on such a screen in sunlight, it is pleasant to play games and read books, without harm to the eyes. Still, in this area, Apple lags behind its competitors from Samsung. Super AMOLED displays are much brighter, more contrasty and give better quality when using VR gear.

IPhone 7 Review: iOS 10

We talked about the new firmware for tablets and Apple smartphones before, but it doesn't hurt to say that this is one of the biggest changes. Moreover, the new firmware is available for older models, starting with the iPhone 5.

Siri voice assistant just got smarter. While iPhone users still prefer to use Google Now and Amazon Alexa, Siri is getting closer and closer to them. In addition, Siri has become open to developers.

The stock Apple Home app in iOS 10 has also received an update. With it, you will control all connected appliances in the house. Lighting, TV control, stove and other devices, all this can be done using Apple Home.

When swiping to the left, you will see a window with widgets. There, you'll have access to commonly used apps, top news, battery life, and information about connected accessories like the Apple Watch.

The iMessage update also made a lot of noise. Now you can use animation during correspondence or conversation, glue stickers by turning your smartphone to a horizontal position, you can write a message with your finger on the canvas. This new product turned out to be much more successful than previously expected.

Apple did not miss the opportunity to make money here either. A special store has appeared where you can purchase stickers and other applications for iMessage. This is mostly aimed at teenagers, but buying and using all of this is optional, you can use iMessage as before.

As a result, iOS 10 is much more convenient and practical than Android. But you can use the new firmware fully only on the latest equipment, devices that are simpler will receive limited functionality.

IPhone 7 Review: Camera

This parameter has fierce competition in the mobile space, unlike the previous one. This is where Apple faces a direct competitor, Samsung, which offers some of the best camera phones on the market. Apple's approach to manufacturing cameras on its smartphones was different from other companies. The Cupertines did not pursue an increase in sensor sensors, but improved other parameters. On the iPhone 7, we see a 12-megapixel sensor, like last year, but with improved focusing, which is capable of taking high-quality photos even in low light.

the iPhone 7 Plus has a dual camera, unlike the iPhone 7. Plus, it has two lenses, one wide-angle and the other telephoto lens, which uses 2x optical zoom and 10x digital. This camera is many times better than on the iPhone 7, when zooming not a single detail is lost, especially since the choice of zoom is automatic, depending on the lighting and other parameters.

IOS 10.1 should add a new portrait feature to the iPhone 7 Plus that allows you to focus on your subject. This is not the first time this technology has been used; HTC has previously used it on one of its devices. Sample photos taken in the new Portrait mode were presented at the presentation. These photos were taken using the beta version of this feature and are amazing. The camera on the new iPhone is good and updated.

IPhone 7 Review: Battery Life

Apple has promised that we will get plus two hours of battery life in the iPhone 7 and one hour in the iPhone 7 Plus, but the owners of the new iPhone say that this is not the case. There are a lot of smartphones on the market that beat the iPhone in this indicator to this day.

The battery life of the new iPhone will depend on usage. With active use of the Internet and heavy applications, your smartphone will not last until the end of the day. But with rational use of the battery, we will get these additional one or two hours.

Charging times for the iPhone 7 are still lagging behind the competition, hopefully Apple can figure out how to reduce power consumption.

IPhone 7 Review: Conclusion

Summing up the results of today's review of Apple's new products, we can say that this is the best iPhone that has existed. It has high performance, beautiful design, a first-class camera that will allow you to capture all the best moments in your life, and new firmware that has received many interesting updates. And don't forget about water resistance, before that, not one Apple smartphone had this indicator.

Since the iPhone 3G, Apple has followed a two-year update cycle for its most popular product. In the first phase, the company presents a fresh design and the most important functional innovations, among which in the past years there was a larger screen, additional communication options, etc. The launch of the next model, with the suffix "s", is focused on honing the existing functions. However, Apple usually tends to add something new in the intermediate phase (like the Touch ID or 3D Touch features that appeared in the iPhone 5s and 6s). And, of course, every year iPhone comes with a new system-on-a-chip and an improved main camera.

the iPhone 7 deviated from this rule to some extent. This time around, the case design clearly continues the direction laid down in the iPhone 6 (while the iPhones 4, 5, and 6 were radically different from previous iterations). Hardware features, in turn, have changed more quantitatively than qualitatively (which, however, cannot be said about the iPhone 7 Plus with its dual camera). What Apple has done in the year since the iPhone 6s was released is best seen as a deep and comprehensive revision of the familiar device. However, in this case, it is quite appropriate to recall the old thesis about the transition from quantity to quality.

SoC, RAM

Apple, as usual, has revealed the absolute minimum of information about the components of the new iPhone. Independent research over time will shed light on the details, but in such a short time since the devices appeared on the market, many questions have not yet been answered.

A key innovation in the iPhone 7 is a system-on-a-chip called the Apple A10 Fusion. Since the iPhone first used the Apple-designed SoC (A4), the company hasn't seen fit to equip its chips with more than two ARM cores. The goal of the creators of the A-series SoC was and remains the most efficient extraction of parallelism from a single instruction stream. In all generations of iPhones that have changed over the years, this approach has proven its effectiveness, allowing Apple processors to compete at least on equal terms with mobile SoCs with four or more cores (both licensed from ARM design and based on original IP), in resource-intensive tasks typical of a smartphone, such as web surfing and 3D games.

However, if from the point of view of speed, four to eight-core CPUs are not the only one and, the conclusion suggests itself, is not the most successful solution, competing with Apple SoC chips of the highest category have one advantage that the engineers of the Californian company were in no hurry to adopt. Back in 2011, ARM proposed the Big.LITTLE architecture, which implies placing on a chip two clusters of cores - high-performance and energy-efficient. The load is distributed in one way or another in accordance with the purpose of the clusters, which ultimately allows you to increase the performance per watt of power consumed by the SoC.

In a narrower sense, Big.LITTLE refers to select combinations of cores developed by ARM, but the same principle is used in products such as the Samsung Exynos 8 Octa 8890 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, equipped with original cores. With the release of the Apple A10 Fusion, the Cupertino-based company also went down the beaten path.

Here are a few facts that are currently known about the heterogeneous architecture of the Apple A10 Fusion. The SoC includes two dual-core clusters and a hardware controller that migrates tasks between the latter. The word "migration" with high probability means that high-performance and energy-efficient clusters never work at the same time, and when one of the clusters is shut down, it transfers data to the second through a shared L2 cache.

Snapshot of Apple A10 Fusion chip (ChipWorks)

The available snapshot from ChipWorks localized a high-performance ARM core cluster covering an area of 16 mm 2 - compared to 13 mm 2 in the Apple A9. The increase in area against the background of a general increase in the density of the microcircuit (which will be discussed below) can be interpreted in such a way that the two smaller cores are located in any of the other probable positions, and the main cluster has been increased. However, another hypothesis seems to be more consistent: the energy efficient and high-performance clusters are integrated with each other. The latter method of organization may have something to do with such characteristics of the chip as the efficient use of the transistor budget and the way the load is migrated between clusters. And by the way, the word Fusion in the name of the SoC may indicate just that.

It remains an open question if there are any differences in the pipeline of the main ARM cores compared to the Twister architecture used in A9. Based on the performance claims (and assuming the two A10 Fusion clusters are actually not running at the same time), the answer to this question is yes. The high-performance A10 Fusion cluster runs at a 27% higher frequency than the CPU in the Apple A9 (2.34 vs. 1.85 GHz), but should be 40% faster.

Even less is known about the GPU in the A10 Fusion. Apple says it's a six-core GPU. So if the developer continues to license IP from Imagination Technologies, we are dealing with either the overclocked PowerVR GT7600 that was used in the Apple A9, or the representative of the new PowerVR Series7XT presented by Imagination earlier this year. The declared GPU performance exceeds that of the Apple A9 by 50%.

The Apple A10 Fusion is manufactured at TSMC facilities using 16nm FinFET technology and has an area of 125 mm 2, which is 20.5 mm 2 more than the area of A9 - also manufactured by TSMC. If we rely on an independent estimate of the number of transistors in both SoCs (more than 2 billion and 3.3 billion, respectively), then the A10 Fusion achieved a significantly higher component density compared to Apple's first experience of using the 16 nm FinFET process technology.

X-ray of Apple A10 Fusion chip (ChipWorks)

So far, there is no evidence that Apple has hired a second contractor for the SoC production - Samsung - in parallel with TSMC, as happened with the Apple A9. Apparently, the exclusive position of TSMC has brought a new way of packaging microcircuits - InFO-WLP (Integrated Fan-Out Wafer-Level Packaging). The essence of the technology is that the chip is mounted directly on the printed circuit board without an organic substrate. To do this, on the chip area, areas are reserved that are not occupied by transistor logic, but only by metal conductors, which are terminated with solder balls on the surface. The dedicated area allows the balls to be large enough to be soldered onto the board. In contrast, a typical packaging method involves two layers of beads: small beads connecting the chip to the organic base, and large beads on the bottom surface of the substrate.

The use of InFO-WLP offers several advantages to the chip: reduced package height, improved cooling, and finally, shorter conductors contribute to higher clock speeds.

In the iPhone 7, the SoC is housed in a single package under the Samsung K3RG1G10CM-YGCH RAM assembly. Chips with a total capacity of 2 GB are placed in one plane, which also made the case a little thinner. By the way, the iPhone 7 Plus, in contrast to the standard size model, has 3 GB of RAM.

SSD, wireless

With the iPhone 6s, Apple pioneered the use of a PCI-Express NVMe drive. There is no reason to believe that the iPhone 7 has taken a step back towards the eMMC interface in this regard. The lineup of the smartphone includes three positions with Flash memory of 32, 128 and 256 GB. Thus, the base iPhone models with 16GB of storage are finally a thing of the past, and the capacity of all three models has been doubled.

When it comes to wireless communications, the iPhone 7 takes a step further with its Category 10 LTE-Advanced modem, which provides 450 Mbps and 100 Mbps transmit and receive, respectively. The CDMA versions of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus (A1660 and A1661) are equipped with a Qualcomm MDM9645M baseband chip, which actually supports LTE-A Category 12 600/150 Mbps, but is limited to Cat. 10 to match the capabilities of the other two models - Intel PMB9943 (A1778, A1784).

The latter are deprived of CDMA support, and they are the ones released on the Russian market. LTE Bands 7, 20 and 38, which are relevant for Russian networks, are supported by both modems (excluding Band 31, which is used by the Skylink network from Tele2).

The iPhone 7's Wi-Fi capabilities are unchanged from its predecessor, supporting IEEE 802.11ac in a 2x2 MIMO configuration for up to 866 Mbps throughput.

Display, camera, sound

One of the main features of the iPhone 7 is its wide color gamut display. Starting with the iMac and iPad Pro, Apple has been steadily adopting DCI-P3 support in its devices. Connoisseurs of professional monitors associate extended color gamut with another space - Adobe RGB. However, DCI-P3 has better prospects for adoption in consumer technology due to the fact that the DCI-P3 standard is used by the US film industry, and it is expected that it will be taken over by TV manufacturers in the near future, while Adobe RGB has been and will remain relevant. only in the field of graphic design.

DCI-P3 covers 25% more colors in the visible spectrum than sRGB and roughly matches Adobe RGB in area. However, while Adobe RGB delivers richer colors in the green spectrum, DCI-P3 is strong in reds. IOS has a built-in global color correction system: all images are displayed according to their color profile mark. As a result, content designed for a wide color gamut takes full advantage of the screen, and at the same time, standard sRGB pictures do not become oversaturated. The iPad Pro's color temperature correction for background lighting is unfortunately not available on the iPhone 7.

The iPhone 7's screen is also 25% brighter than the previous generation. The passport parameters of brightness and contrast are 625 cd / m 2 and 1400: 1. The resolution and dimensions of the screen in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus remain the same as their predecessors.

The updated main camera of the device also shoots in the DCI-P3 color space and is improved in other respects compared to the iPhone 6s camera. Now, not only the iPhone Plus, but also the standard size model is equipped with optical image stabilization. The resolution of the camera (12 megapixels) has not been increased, but the new sensor from Sony, according to official figures, provides 60% faster autofocus and uses 30% less power. New 6-lens aperture optics introduced f/ 1.8 (as opposed to f/ 2.2 on iPhone 6s), as well as 50% brighter Tru Tone four-LED flash.

The resolution of the front camera was increased from 5 to 7 megapixels, which made it possible to shoot video in 1080p format.

iPhone 7 has a dedicated ISP that does image processing. In particular, the chip will be used to emulate the bokeh effect in the iPhone 7 Plus, which has a dual main camera with wide and telephoto lenses. But we'll keep the details for the iPhone 7 Plus review.

The earpiece speaker at the top of the cabinet is now a full-fledged loudspeaker that works in stereo in conjunction with the bottom speaker. And, as everyone already knows, the iPhone 7 no longer has a mini-jack for audio output to external speakers. Instead, Apple suggests using wireless as the primary way to connect audio equipment. According to Apple, the mini-jack had to be "killed", not least to free up additional space in the case - in particular, for the battery, the capacity of which was increased by 14% (from 1715 to 1960 mAh), and the larger Taptic Engine.

IPhone 7 comes with EarPods with Lightning connector and a mini-jack to Lightning adapter. This accessory is not as simple as it sounds. A DAC is contained inside the adapter. However, the iPhone 7 itself contains three audio amplifiers: two - obviously for stereo speakers, but the purpose of the latter is unknown. A possible answer to the riddle is that the Lightning port in the iPhone 7 learned to pass analog sound, but to make the adapter compatible with older Apple technology, it was equipped with a DAC.

Appearance

The design of the iPhone 7 generally does not differ from its two predecessors, has the same dimensions as the iPhone 6s and almost the same weight. However, the principles of aesthetics inherent in the iPhone 6, the creators of the "seven" have brought to perfection. The first thing that catches your eye is the plastic strips separating the Wi-Fi and cellular antenna zones, shifted to the edges of the case. The two new iPhone 7 color options (Black and Onyx Black) blend visually with the metal cover - so well that the white and gray stripes in other colors look like a flaw.

iPhone 7 (left) and iPhone 6 (right)

In addition, the metal surfaces in both shades of black are treated differently than in the silver, gold and pink iPhone. "Black" was smoother to the touch, and "Black Onyx" was polished to a mirror finish (which, of course, makes it vulnerable to scratches and fingerprints). In general, since plastic spacers run along the edges of the case and are convex, it is important that they are polished in production after being installed (or, most likely, pouring and then solidifying in the grooves of the case) along with the metal surface, ensuring the perfect shape of the curves and accurate joining materials.

iPhone 7 (left) and iPhone 6 (right)

Other design flaws from the previous two generations have been addressed in the iPhone 7. The lens of the main camera has become not only larger (due to the increased aperture), but also slightly longer (additional lens). As a consequence, it still rises above the case back, but instead of a separate ring, it is surrounded by a neat raised surface. The peephole is shifted into the corner formed by the plastic spacer, which looks much more harmonious compared to the iPhone 6 / 6s lens sandwiched between the spacers in a seemingly random position.

By the way, Apple claims that both the lens of the main camera and the sensor of the "home" button are covered with sapphire (that is, corundum) glass. However, according to some evidence on the Internet, both glasses are not nearly as scratch resistant as sapphire should be - unlike the glasses in the iPhone 6s. Apple has not yet responded to these messages.

iPhone 6 (left) and iPhone 7 (right)

There is no more inappropriate shiny pits between the volume buttons. All buttons feel a little stiffer than the iPhone 6 / 6s and have a duller sound. The Lightning port bezel on black models and the screw heads around it are also painted black. The speaker holes on the bottom edge are absolutely symmetrical due to the absence of a mini-jack.

In the triumph of minimalism, which is the iPhone 7, you can only find fault with the thinnest plastic frame between the glass of the screen and the metal of the case, without which Apple could well do, as is done in the Apple Watch. However, it is possible that the frame has a functional purpose: plastic can distribute the impact energy when falling, which would be especially dangerous in case of direct contact between metal and glass of a large area.

The home button below the screen is no longer a physical button. A pressure sensitive Force Touch sensor is located under the sapphire crystal disc, and the pressure sensation is triggered by an electromagnetic hammer from the Taptic Engine. To be honest, the "emulation" of the physical button in the iPhone 7 is not as reliable as in the Mac's touchpads with Force Touch (absolutely indistinguishable from mechanical ones in terms of sensations). However, the effect is pleasant (especially with the maximum force of impact, which is adjustable) and at first produces an addiction similar to that of seeds or bubble wrap.

Button presses are recorded flawlessly and as fast as human fingers can. In addition, the sensor reacts only to fingers or objects close in electrical properties and area.

Force Touch on the home button plays the same role as 3D Touch on the screen. Light pressure unlocks the phone or opens the desktop, stronger pressure calls Siri. However, it would be better if the deep press was followed by a second "click" - this is not the case now.

In any case, replacing the physical key with a pressure sensor means there is one less mechanical component to wear in the smartphone. In addition, the fixed "home" button could be needed for another achievement of the iPhone 7 - protection against ingress of dust and moisture IP67 standard. The body is capable of withstanding immersion in water to a depth of 1 m for 30 minutes.

Packaging, delivery set

IPhone 7 ships with a standard set of accessories - paper documentation, a SIM eject tool, and EarPods (now with a Lightning connector).

A short Lightning to mini-jack adapter is also included in the package.
