So the day came when I prepared the same tablet to work for its intended purpose, for which, in fact, it was bought, namely, to work as a photo frame :)
What was the preparation? After all, everything is very simple - I connected the tablet to the computer with a wire ( he was defined as a flash drive), copied the folder with photos to the Pictures directory, disconnected the wire, went to the "Gallery" on the tablet and enjoy! So I did at the very beginning, right after the purchase, and everything worked great. But some considerations prevented me from considering the organization of the photo gallery complete.
My thoughts were caused by the size of the photos and the amount of free memory. Will it be enough? I calculated. Each photo with a resolution of 4608x3456 pixels weighs about 6 MB. Free memory on the tablet - 5 GB. It turns out that about 5 * 1024/6 β 850 such photos will fit on the tablet, which is not very much, but for the first time it will be quite enough. And later you can buy a 32 GB memory card, which increases the number of photos to 6000, which is more than enough. My other concern with the size of the photos was that the tablet would slowly scroll through them. But a comparative analysis of paging such photographs with paging photographs cut to fit the screen ( 1280x752) showed that the difference is insignificant, and when the gallery uses the effect of smooth appearance of the next photo from under the previous one, the difference is completely invisible. Thus, I decided on the size of the photos - I will upload them to the tablet at the maximum resolution, so that, if desired, I can qualitatively enlarge the necessary areas of the photos.
The next point was to compare the quality of color rendition on the tablet screen and on my monitor. It turned out that the photos look much less saturated on the tablet screen than on my monitor. I couldn't find the saturation settings, let alone color profiles in Android. So I tried to prepare an initially oversaturated photo in Photoshop ( +40 ) and display it on the tablet. The experiment was successful. This meant that I had to increase the saturation of all photos to be thrown into the tablet ( Ctrl + U, Alt + a, 40), and in addition, to increase their contrast, since the photos came out of the camera immediately too sluggish. To increase the contrast, I used the Levels ... -\u003e Auto tool ( Ctrl + L, Alt + A).
I was too lazy to manually shove through heaps of photos. So I rummaged around, and found an opportunity to automate this process. Photoshop has the ability to create "operations" that are essentially equivalent to "macros" in Microsoft Office. In addition, there is a batch file processing function ( so-calledΒ« image processor"), To which this operation can be connected:
In general, since there are no special requirements for the quality of photographs in this case ( the experiment showed that my mother, for whom I am making these pictures, does not notice the nuances of quality), such automatic processing has a right to exist. Photos look beautiful on a tablet, and perhaps a slightly higher saturation only pleases the eye, adding positive emotions to the photo.
After processing the photos, one more effect emerged - after compressing JPEG with quality 8 ( high), the volume of photos has decreased by as much as 2 times. So now 850 * 2 \u003d 1700 photos will fit perfectly.
Additionally, I will mention a very successful program for viewing images on a tablet. Instead of the standard Gallery, I installed the QuikPic program. Its advantages include raising the screen brightness to maximum when viewing images, as well as the relative richness of settings.
But what should an old tablet do after purchasing a new item? If you can't sell an obsolete "tablet", then make a photo frame out of it! For this, the Dayframe program is intended.
What is all this for?
You have seen photo frames more than once in shops selling electronic goods. These are the same tablets, but with the most stripped down functionality. Installation and configuration
And yet, the Dayframe app was primarily designed to turn an old tablet into a good photo frame. This is what we will do now. The first step is to download the app from Google Play. It weighs only 11 MB.
After installation, you will be presented with several options, from where the program will borrow images for their subsequent display. Among the options are the standard Gallery and many of the Internet services mentioned in the preface. It is not necessary to immediately select any services, it can be done at any other time. It is best to start adding photo sources gradually. This will help you understand which service is the most convenient to use.
Selection of a large number of sources
Most Dayframe users list only one source of images. But to display a large number of photos, it is still better to use several sources. And it doesn't have to be your pictures. For example, you can display images from the best photographers around the world on a photo frame. To do this, use the 500px service. At the same time, you will be able to clarify which category of pictures you are most interested in. This Internet service collects photographs from popular publications, the choice is very rich.
An old tablet can be turned into a photo frame not only for yourself. Give the "tablet" with the installed Dayframe to your grandmother or mom. At the same time, connect your Instagram or Twitter accounts to the application. As a result, the photo frame will display the pictures that you upload to these social networks.
Also, the application is able to select images from any services for the keywords you specified. This is also very convenient if you want to view photos of flowers, landscapes and other interesting images.
Timer

There are quite a few tablets suitable for these characteristics. Enough with one of the simplest ones, I personally opted for the Huawei Mediapad 7 Lite, which currently costs about 4,000 rubles (if you want a really high-quality screen with 300+ ppi, then it's better to take the Nexus 7 right away, but it costs already for 10,000 rubles, or even look at the new Apple iPad mini, but won't all this be too much?).
Inside there is a single-core processor per gigahertz, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of space (plus support for memory cards), an IPS-screen with a resolution of 1024 * 600 (not a fountain, but for 7 "it will work), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS (up to a heap ).

Action plan

Setting up the system
- disable the screen lock. After turning on the device, it should immediately show the desktop, and nothing more.

- Nova becomes the default launcher. In it, we delete all desktops, except for one, from which we delete all icons. Disable the search bar. Remove all icons from the dock.
- Add Battery Widget Reborn directly to the dock, make the widget more transparent, and remove the surrounding circle.
- In full! Screen, enable autorun after loading and hide the bottom panel.
- We return to Nova's settings and lock the desktop (it could have been done right away, but then you would have had to temporarily unlock it to install the widget).
Why is that
Because 2013 is still a year in the yard, Google just introduced android 4.4 KitKat, where full-screen mode finally appeared, and cheap devices with this OS would go well if in a year.
