What's in the iPhone 8. User interface and operating system. Opening links in the background

What exactly makes the new smartphones better than the previous ones? They answered these two really frequently asked questions, having collected 30 (!) New features of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus in one article.

1. New design of glass and stainless steel case

the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have similar shapes and form factors as the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. But due to the use of glass as the main material, not aluminum, as the last six years, the new Apple smartphones have noticeably freshened up in terms of appearance. The main thing is that the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus feel completely different in the hand. The glass is completely non-slippery and very pleasant to the touch.

2. The glass in iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is the most durable glass ever used in a smartphone

Both the front and back panels of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are covered with a special glass, the protective layer of which is 50% thicker than the glass used in Apple smartphones earlier. Thus, the glass body of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is maximally protected from drops and scratches.

3. New oleophobic coating on both sides of the case

Both iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have a new and improved oleophobic coating. Any smudges and fingerprints can be removed from the glass cases of smartphones with incredible ease.

4. The base of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is made of stainless steel and durable 7000 series aluminum

IPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have a new stainless steel base and reinforced bezel made from 7000 series aluminum, typically used in aerospace, for added strength and protection.

5. New six-core Apple A11 Bionic processor

At the heart of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is the most powerful and smartest processor ever created for a mobile device, the Apple A11 Bionic. The chip has six cores, four of which are responsible for efficiency and two for performance. The A11 Bionic is 25% faster than the A10 Fusion.

However, it's not just about speed. The A11 Bionic is the first processor with an embedded neural system built specifically for machine learning. It performs calculations for neural networks with incredible speed, which will open up many opportunities for developers to create unique applications using neural technologies.

6. Apple's triple-core graphics chip

The A11 Bionic processor integrates a tri-core graphics chip that Apple created. The company has long planned to abandon third-party services in this regard and, finally, managed to do it. Apple's graphics chip is 30% faster than the PowerVR Series7XT Plus used in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, supports the new Metal graphics technology and is optimized for today's 3D games and augmented reality.

7. Improved and faster augmented reality support

Ever notice how most devices are sluggish when running augmented reality apps or games? Most likely, at least on the example of the same hit-phenomenon Pokemon GO, which turned the head of the whole world in the summer of 2016. So, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus do not slow down when working with augmented reality. The A11 Bionic processor makes augmented reality images much smoother and more lifelike.

8. Retina HD display

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus come with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch Retina HD displays, respectively. The main characteristics of smartphone screens have not changed compared to the previous generation, but additional ones have been improved. The displays on iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have a wider color gamut, brightest brightness, and excellent contrast.

9.Best color rendering in the smartphone industry

Color reproduction on the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus has been taken to a whole new level. Any images, including photos taken with smartphones, look incredibly rich on the screen.

10.Support True Tone technology

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were the first smartphones in the world to support True Tone technology. Apple's new products use a four-channel ambient light sensor, which automatically adjusts the white balance on the screen depending on the color temperature of the lighting. This ensures that the image on the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus always looks like it was printed on paper.

11. New matrices of cameras

The cameras of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus received new matrices - larger, faster and powered by the A11 Bionic processor.

12. Improved image processor

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus feature a next-generation image signal processor designed by Apple engineers. It recognizes people, lighting brightness, movements and other details in the frame and processes them even before the user takes a picture.

13. Shooting 4K video at 60 frames per second

The maximum video quality for iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus has been improved. Smartphone users can shoot videos in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second.

14. Shooting slow-motion (slo-mo) video with a resolution of 1080p and 240 frames per second

Improvements were made in the slow motion video mode. Slo-mo videos are recorded in 1080p at 240 frames per second.

15. Improved capabilities for creating video in low light conditions

The OIS on iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus has learned to reduce motion blur when shooting in low light. Videos will always come out stable even if the smartphone shakes.

16.Advanced video stabilization

The video stabilization technology in the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus cameras has been improved. It uses a new signal processor and a new larger sensor to eliminate any jitter during shooting.

17. Quad-LED True Tone Flash

IPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have a new True Tone Quad-LED flash. It provides more uniform illumination, which makes it possible to avoid overexposed areas when taking selfies.

18. Slow Sync technology

Also, the True Tone Quad-LED flash supports Slow Sync technology. This unique Apple design combines a short pause between pulses and a slow shutter speed. As a result, selfies on the front cameras of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are much better in low light.

19. Effects and new filters for Live Photos

You can apply a variety of filters to live photos taken with iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. For example, make the skin tone in the picture more natural. In addition, it became possible to add Live Photo effects, such as "pendulum" or "long exposure".

20. Shooting HD-video on the front camera

The front camera allows you to shoot HD video. Chatting on FaceTime or taking Live Photos has taken the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus to the next level.

21.Dual 12MP camera

The dual camera on iPhone 8 Plus just got better. The six-element wide-angle camera has ƒ / 1.8 aperture and optical image stabilization, while the telephoto camera has ƒ / 2.8 aperture.

22. Improved portrait mode

Depth-of-field shots are even better with the iPhone 8 Plus. The details of the subject in the photo are much sharper and the blur is more natural. You can shoot in Portrait mode without any problems even in low light conditions.

23. Flash in Portrait mode

When shooting in Portrait mode with the iPhone 8 Plus, you can now use the flash.

24. Portrait lighting function

Most of the possibilities of the "Portrait" mode expands the new function of portrait lighting. It uses face detection technology to change the background and lighting of images with depth-of-field effects. With just one click, the iPhone 8 Plus user can make the background daylight, studio, outline, or stage background.

25. Support wireless charging

Thanks to the glass back, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have Qi wireless charging support. Smartphones can be charged by simply placing them on any supported wireless charging dock.

26. New, louder stereo speakers

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have updated stereo speakers, which have been increased by 25% over their counterparts in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Separately, Apple has worked on sounding deep bass. Their new iPhones reproduce at the highest level, allowing you to enjoy watching movies on your smartphones like never before.

27. Water and dust resistance

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are IP67 water, splash and dust resistant. What does this mean? The first digit in the index indicates the degree of protection of the smartphone from the penetration of foreign objects. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have the highest level of protection - no dust can get into the devices.

The second digit in the index indicates protection against water ingress. IPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have Level 7 protection. This means that smartphones can withstand short-term dives to a depth of one meter without risk of damage.

Note that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus had similar protection levels. However, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have glass rather than aluminum cases, which is why Apple engineers again had to implement water resistance in smartphones using different methods.

28. Support for fast charging

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus support fast charging. Smartphones can be charged from 0 to 50% in just 30 minutes. For this, however, you must have.

29.Bluetooth 5.0

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are equipped with Bluetooth 5.0 wireless technology. More speed, wider operating range, support for all existing wireless devices.

30. Updated colors: gold, silver and space gray

iPhones have been available in these colors before, but in the case of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, these colors are different. Silver, gold and space gray are applied to glass panels in six layers! Thanks to this, Apple was able to achieve the most attractive depth and the right shade of colors. In addition, the multilayer painting of the glass panels made it possible to achieve the desired density.

1. Taking pictures without using the touch screen

Just call Siri with a long touch on the Home button and ask to turn on the camera. To take a photo, press any volume button on your smartphone or headphones.

2. Emergency reboot

In those rare cases when the iPhone freezes or needs to free up the device's RAM, an emergency restart will help. Just hold down the Home button and the Lock button for 10 seconds.

3. Triple press the Home button

Go to the item "Accessibility" in the main settings of the iPhone. Scroll down to the Shortcut Keys tab - you will see a list of functions. Triple-tapping the Home button launches VoiceOver, color invert (useful for reading), some display settings, screen zoom, and Switch Control or AssistiveTouch.

To turn on the magnifier by triple-pressing the Home button, simply select the appropriate item in “Accessibility”.

4. Double tap on the Home button sensor

Perhaps all iPhone users know that double-clicking on the mechanical Home button opens the application selection window. But not everyone is aware that double tap on the button sensor slightly "lowers" the screen, allowing owners of large smartphones to easily reach the top icons.

5. Using 3D Touch

If you have an iPhone 6s or newer, using 3D Touch can make your life a lot easier and save time. This technology will speed up movement between applications, make typing more convenient and.

6. Reassigning the volume buttons

The iPhone has two volume settings: one for calls and notifications, and one for music and apps. Turning off the "Change with buttons" toggle switch in the sound settings will fix the ringer volume in the current position and transfer control of music and applications to the side buttons.

Work with text

7. Undo the last action

Just shake your smartphone, and iOS will offer to undo the last action, be it typing, pasting, or, conversely, deleting text.

8. Fast domain entry

In cases where the keyboard prompts you to quickly enter the ..com domain, hold your finger on this button. You will see a list of popular domains, where you can quickly switch to the coveted.ru.

9. Removing the microphone icon from the keyboard

The microphone icon between the space bar and the language change button is intended for voice text input. You can remove the icon by moving the "Enable dictation" slider to the inactive position in the keyboard settings.

10. Listening to the text

iOS supports Screen Aloud feature. To enable it, activate the slider in the speech settings: "Settings" → "General" → "Universal access". To have iPhone speak on the screen, swipe down with two fingers in any app.

Safety

11. Create a letter password to unlock

If you don't trust four- or six-digit passwords and don't like Touch ID technology, you can set a long one.

Go to the passcode settings and select "Change passcode". The system will ask you to enter the old combination first, and then the new one. On the screen for entering a new password, click on "Passcode options" and select an acceptable option.

12. Improving the accuracy of Touch ID

To help iPhone recognize you more confidently and quickly, create multiple fingerprints of the same finger.

13. Create hidden photos

If you take photos in the standard camera application, they will be saved in the media library. To protect a photo with a password, you need to resort to trickery. Disable photo export and set a password in the Notes app settings. To take a secret photo, go to create a new note and tap on the camera icon. After the photo is taken, click on "Export" and select "Lock Note".

14. Guide access

We often give the smartphone into the wrong hands “pass the level in the game”, “read an article” or “watch a video on YouTube”. If you don't trust whoever will be using your iPhone, turn on guided access in the settings: "General" → "Accessibility" → "Guided access".

When handing over the iPhone to someone, press the Home button three times to enable guide access, and the person can only use the open application.

Siri

15. "Whose iPhone is this?"

If you find a lost iPhone, Siri can help you contact the owner without entering a password. Ask her "Whose iPhone is this?" or "Who owns this iPhone?", and a window with the name of the owner of the gadget will open in front of you.

To find your iPhone can find you this way, go to Siri settings and in the "Data" tab, assign a contact with information about yourself.

16. Siri male voice

Not everyone knows, but our faithful electronic assistant can speak in a pleasant male voice. This option is available in Siri settings.

Calls

17. Calling the last dialed number

To repeat the last call, you do not have to go to the "Recent" tab. Click on the green handset on the screen with the keys, and the iPhone will offer to call back the last dialed number.

18. Quick access to your favorite contacts

To quickly dial important numbers, add them to the Favorites tab in the standard Phone application. Swipe right on the desktop to go to the widgets panel. Scroll down and click "Change", and then tap the plus sign next to the "Favorites" widget. Now you can call your loved ones faster and even when the screen is locked.

19. Incoming call detection in headphones

Answering calls with headphones is sometimes much easier than reaching for your phone. To find out who is calling you without taking your iPhone out of your pocket, turn on the Call Announcements toggle switch in your phone settings.

Posts

20. Delete old messages

Deleting irrelevant messages will help to restore order in correspondence and free up precious megabytes of memory. Find the "Leave messages" item in the settings and set the required time after which messages will be deleted.

21. Saving traffic in "Messages"

To avoid wasting traffic on heavy attachments, enable low quality mode in the message settings.

22. Time of sending messages

One of the non-obvious functions of Messages is to view the exact time of sending. Just swipe from the right side of the screen.

Alarm clock

23. Set up a call from Apple Music

The ability to set your favorite song to an alarm is not a trick, but a basic iPhone feature that many don't know about. When creating a new alarm, click on the Sound tab. Scroll the list to the very beginning, in front of the standard ringtones, find a panel with familiar names and click on "Select Song".

24. Snooze alarm

To reschedule the alarm clock at a later time, it is not necessary to look for the corresponding button on the screen. Press any side button and iPhone will wake you up again in nine minutes.

This interval was not chosen by chance: the old mechanical alarm clocks could not count exactly 600 seconds. They did not take into account the current minute and began counting already nine minutes from the next.

Safari

25. Search by word on page

Enter the desired word in the address bar. In the drop-down menu under the search engine suggestions, select "On this page."

26. Recently closed tabs

Go to the screen showing previews of open pages and hold your finger on the "+" button. You will see a list of recently closed tabs. This is useful if you accidentally closed a page that was open for a long time that is difficult to find in your browser history.

27. Convert Safari Page to PDF File

28. Opening links in the background

Other basic applications and services

29. Spotlight as a converter

Swiping down on any iPhone screen opens Spotlight. Its use significantly reduces the time it takes to find something in a smartphone. Spotlight produces results from many applications: it can help you find the right podcast episode, keyword post, or Twitter person. Also, a standard search engine can act as a converter. Just enter the request "1 usd" or "15 inches per cm".

30. Convert slow motion video to normal video

If you've played around with the slow motion function and accidentally shot in slow motion what would have looked better with natural speed, it is easy to bring the video to the original tempo without additional applications. Open the video editing section and adjust the values \u200b\u200bon the speed bar. This strip is located above the timing field where we usually cut the rollers.

31. Level

The compass in the base of the applications is practically useless in the city. But if you swipe the screen to the left, you can get a level - an indispensable device for repair and installation.

32. Apple Music Storage Optimization

Turn on the storage optimization feature in the music settings, and the iPhone will automatically delete songs you rarely listen to. This will happen only when the device memory runs out.

To set the minimum amount of music that will not be deleted from the iPhone, you can set the storage size.

33. Geolocation reminders

App Store task managers offer tons of features, but standard Reminders can do a lot. For example, the basic app might remind you to buy milk not only at 3:00 pm, but also when you visit a store. To enable this function, select "Remind me at my place" and find the required geolocation in the task settings.

Battery

34. Enabling power saving mode

If the iPhone has more than 20% of the charge left, but it is still very far to the nearest outlet, it makes sense to switch to power saving mode. To enable the mode, simply ask Siri about it or find the corresponding item in the battery settings. In these settings, you can also find a list of the most energy-consuming applications and close them in a timely manner.

35. Silent charging connection

Vibration when charging is connected to iPhone can be avoided by opening the Camera app before connecting the Lightning cable. The device will begin to charge, and your sensitive sleeping relatives will not be woken up by a sudden sound.

I noticed a very interesting thing. For two days of active use of the new eights, I showed them to many friends. And the scenario was always the same - everyone snatches 8 Plus out of my hands, and remains unattended. Suggests ... What is so cool Apple did in the new generation? We will understand iPhone 8 Plus Review.

Packaging or Apple's boundless greed

The box is now painted in the color of the iPhone inside. This, of course, is great, but it would be better if the company spent the money to put a Lightning to USB C cable inside, which separately, by the way, costs 2 thousand rubles. With it, we could at least connect the new iPhone to a MacBook, well, or to another modern laptop. Fortunately, USB C is now being actively implemented by everyone. By the way, a wide range of original iPhones, starting from 4S m to X, is presented on the apple-original website, at low prices!

But no! Instead, the Cupertinians left an outdated 1 amp charger. From the master's shoulder, so to speak.

In addition, inside are ordinary wired EarPods with a Lightning plug, an adapter from it to a mini-jack and ... stickers. There is nothing more interesting. You can see for yourself by looking at my unboxing.

Design - four years the same

The new plus makes several impressions. Here are the key ones.

Lord, how healthy he is!

the iPhone 8 Plus is the most unfortunate example of a 5.5-inch smartphone. Why did I bring this up again, because it was already clear from the example of the 6 Plus? Because it perfectly demonstrates the relationship of the manufacturer to its fans: "Everything for them, so that they feel good, so that each new generation is more comfortable than the previous one." Aha!

The market is full of smartphones with the same screen, but in a more compact body. Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi have been particularly successful in this.

A smartphone is inconvenient anytime, anywhere. He can hardly fit into the front pocket of his trousers. If you still stuffed him there, got into the car and drove off, God forbid, they will call you. It is simply impossible to take the device out of your pocket and not cut into the post on the go.

However, the large display is really a boon. Surfing the web, flipping through the Instagram feed, typing on a normal keyboard - all this is much more convenient to do than on. When I used the latter, I caught myself thinking that I needed to stop and concentrate in order to type without errors. Plus allows you to use it in a more relaxed way.

How to show off now?

For the fourth consecutive year, the same front panel. Nothing, literally nothing new.

Oh yes! Apple is now claiming that the glass is 50 percent stronger. I didn't check it out, but I'm sure some of you will do it sooner or later.

But I checked the device for something else - for resistance to scratches and the new iPhone failed the test.

In just a week and a half of use, scratches appeared on the display and on the back cover. This is not a gate at all!

All changes at the back - now we have not smoothly polished metal, but tempered glass. But with an oleophobic coating, very high quality.

There is no exact information on the type of glass. They say this is the latest generation of Gorilla Glass, and this, if anything, is the fifth version.

This panel was installed at the back for one single purpose. The nosebleed smartphone needed at least some innovation, so it was decided to put wireless charging inside. True, this cannot be called an innovation, because "skis" have been actively using this technology in their flagships for four years now.

Since a special coil is used for this case under the glass, the battery had to be reduced. We write down 225 mAh as a loss (7 Plus had 2900 swings, and now it is 2675).

He's never black!

Have you looked at the "backside"? We already realized that black iPhones from the current line are now not to be seen. Now we have space gray or Space Gray. Actually, as it was before.

I personally don't like it. The back panel looks fine, but you can't say "wow".

With other colors, things are even worse. Look at the gold, the back of which is white in the light, in the room "rusty"?

The silver option is the most boring. For conservatives and those who are not at all embarrassed by the huge bezels on the sides of the screen.

Slips, but not so

One of the main tactile and visual iPhone 8 Plus specifications - it's still slippery, but it doesn't match its metal predecessor (not Jet Black). The glass on the back definitely adds grip. Well, how? Not much, by 30-40 percent.

However, due to its large size, dropping the smartphone to the floor and saying goodbye to both glasses is still a trifling matter. So buying a cover is a must.

If anything, iFixit has already disassembled the new product and gave it 6 out of 10 points on the maintainability scale. This means that if something happens, it will be more difficult to repair a new product than the same seven (7 points).

Playing louder

As in its predecessor, the sound comes from two speakers at once: from the main one at the bottom and the spoken one at the top. The latter sounds quieter, but adds good stereo.

The new Plus is louder than the old one. By 25% according to official statements. I will check this later in a separate review, where I will compare both generations of devices, but for now we take Apple's word for it.

The sound itself is of high quality and loud, not even above average, but rather closer to the maximum that I have heard. And of course the 8 Plus is slightly louder. Another argument in favor of buying an older brother.

Little things

The antenna frames are now very short and are visible only at the ends. If anything, the base of the case is made of 7000-series aluminum (it does not bend, that is), and Apple is also talking about some kind of "steel base". Apparently, it is inside the case.

The physical buttons are very neat and don't wobble in their grooves. No Android smartphone manufacturer pays attention to this - everything rattles like a rattle. But not the iPhone.

Don't be afraid for a protruding camera. Here we have a sapphire crystal, so it will be extremely difficult to scratch the lenses.

The display is nothing new. Almost ...

There's nothing new about the iPhone 8 Plus screen. Perhaps they added support for True Tone technology. The bottom line is that a special sensor next to the front camera monitors ambient light and adjusts the color temperature of the screen for a specific situation. In short, the screen becomes either strongly yellow (in a low-light room) or slightly yellow (in bright sun).

And no, this is not Night Shift. This setting works separately. If, of course, you activate it.

Compared the screens of the iPhone 8 Plus and. That's what came out of it.

If we compare it head-on, it becomes obvious that the 8 Plus display is a little more pleasant in color. In the youngest, they are sharper and with a slight bias in a green tint.

A strong deviation along the diagonal axis shows that we are facing the most common IPS-matrix. Yes, high quality, no doubt, but it still floats in a whitish fog. This is not AMOLED for you.

Apple relentlessly claims that the screen is "Retina HD", that it's new and all so redesigned to support the P3's wide color gamut and all, but in fact the display easily blends in with its Optic AMOLED.

What's new in hardware?

The new generation of Apple's line of smartphones from Apple in 2017 was named: iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, instead of the expected ones - iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus. Why did it happen? Nobody knows. Perhaps Apple has decided to change the tradition of naming its smartphones and who knows if we will see another S-series, some kind of iPhone. In the meantime, let's check out the new features and other features that make iPhone 8 unique and cool compared to other smartphones in 2017. Let's start reviewing the iPhone 8, let's go!

Appearance and design

The iPhone 8 design remains unchanged. This is the same iPhone 7, only in a glass case instead of an aluminum one. Apple decided not to bother with a new design, but simply focused on new technologies concentrated in the device itself. Thus, wireless charging appeared in the iPhone 8, thanks to the back panel of the smartphone, which is made entirely of glass. The glass transmits waves, which can charge the battery in the device. An aluminum cover would not provide the same result.

So, the front and back of the iPhone 8 is made up of tough, scratch-resistant glass that's covered in an oleophobic coating. And what about the side, at the end? The iconic aerospace-grade aluminum metal frame we remember from the iPhone 4 / 4S. So the design went back to 2010 when the Quartet was released. Strangely, Apple abandoned such an idea earlier, switched to metal monolithic cases and now came back to the old one. Are the ideas of innovation really over? As for the rest, the iPhone 8 remained the same as the iPhone 7. The Lightning connector was not cut out, although they did wireless charging. It will be possible to charge from it too. The 3.5 mm audio jack was not returned back, but this is obvious. All buttons and holes are in place.

the iPhone 8 received only three colors: black, silver and gold. The colors “rose gold” and black mat are gone. At the same time, the standard colors have also changed, for example: black - similar to Space Gray; and gold - more reminiscent of the color of Champagne, which was painted "like" gold cases for the iPhone 5, at one time; silver color - became brighter, it became lighter. Well, it's good that Apple decided to make the iPhone 8 in only three colors - like before.

Apple claims that the glasses are very durable, that such glasses have never been found in iPhones! And I don't know if you can believe it or not, but I think we'll all find out soon when we get new iPhones and start dropping them. I remember the days of the iPhone 4, when every second owner had a “beautiful” spider web on the back. And also, thanks to the durable and tightly welded body, the iPhone 8 has received an IP67 degree of protection against moisture according to the IEC 60529 standard and, like the iPhone 7, the iPhone 8 can be washed under the tap. Of course, I do not recommend doing this, I would not do this myself, but the fact that dropping the iPhone 8 into the water - we have some kind of guarantee that it will work as before.

Display

Thanks to the design retained, the iPhone 8's display hasn't changed much. It remains the same as in the iPhone 7. Except for some internal nuances. The new display is made using LCD IPS technology, thanks to which the viewing angle has become wider, and the maximum brightness has increased to 625 nit. Also noted is support for the DCI-P3 color space, which gives more accurate color reproduction and support for the HDR10 standard.

The iPhone 8 has a 4.7-inch display at 326 ppi, while the iPhone 8 Plus has a 5.5-inch display at 401 ppi. And, of course, 3D Touch technology, without which you can't go anywhere, is a useful and crown feature of the iPhone. The most important innovation of the iPhone 8 display is the introduction of the True Tone function, as in the iPad Pro. The color temperature of the display adjusts to the ambient light, making our eyes less tired from reading or playing games. Previously, this effect was achieved through a feature in iOS, and now it is built into the hardware level.

Iron

CPU

iPhone 8 is equipped with the top-end 6-core A11 Bionic processor, which is made using a 10nm process technology. Also, the iPhone 8 has a built-in M11 motion coprocessor and a neural engine. The iPhone 8 GPU has 3 cores. Previously, there was some kind of stability in terms of increasing power in iPhones. Now the productivity of hardware in iPhones is growing every year. For a long time, iPhone processors had 2 cores, and only in the recent iPhone 7 it was decided to deliver 4 nuclear percent. And a year later, the iPhone 8 has 6 cores. But this is not surprising, because every year in new iPhones there are many serious innovations that need to be processed somehow. That's what multithreading is for.

RAM

The iPhone 8 has 2GB of RAM, while the iPhone 8 Plus has 3GB of RAM. No change here. The predecessor had everything the same. The new hardware will be able to handle well the device's camera, wireless charging, and overall device operation. The hardware of the eighth iPhone will be able to run the most advanced and resource-intensive games. I would rather like GTA 4 on iOS.

Persistent memory

the iPhone 8 has a minimum of 64GB of storage and a maximum of 256GB. The iPhone 7 had 32, 128 and 256 GB, the question is: where did the variation with 128 GB of memory go and why are only two options available? Apparently this is another departure from Apple's tradition this year.

Battery

The lithium-ion battery of the iPhone 8 received a capacity of 1821 mAh, and the iPhone 8 Plus - 2675 mAh, from which you can see that the battery capacities have become smaller than their predecessors. Why is that? Everything is simple. No one in the world, not even Apple, worries about the autonomy of devices. They do not want to increase the size of devices in order to cram a more powerful battery there. Therefore, it remains to wait for the development of ultra-capacious batteries for smartphones. However, there is no need to be upset. iPhone 8 will last the same as iPhone 7. Day - two. This happens due to the energy efficiency of the A11 processor and the high-quality optimization of iOS 11.

What's more, Apple has provided the iPhone 8 with fast charging. This means that somewhere around 50% of the battery charge can be achieved in just 30 minutes. And a full 100% charge is enough for 40 hours of listening to music on a bluetooth headset, 12 hours of surfing the Internet via Wi-Fi and 14 hours of talking on the phone via a bluetooth headset.

Wireless charger

Finally, the iPhone has got wireless charging. True, this is no longer an innovation, because today there are already smartphones that charge contactlessly. Apple was late in this regard.

This technology works thanks to the glass body. Aluminum does not transmit the necessary waves to charge the battery, so previous iPhones made of aluminum could not support this technology. One thing is not clear why it was not already getting rid of the Lightning connector? He's already superfluous. This is not Steve Jobsky. Although it becomes clear when you realize that Apple does not include a wireless charger in the kit. To use contactless charging, you must first purchase it separately. (no comment)

IPhone 8 cameras

Main

With every new generation of iPhone, Apple has improved its camera. And the iPhone 8 is no exception. In the past, the iPhone 7 has built in a dual camera that delivers depth and blur, as well as 2x optical zoom. This year, Apple has only slightly improved the aperture to f / 1.8 in the main camera and f / 2.4 in the second (tele) camera. And it's a shame, because the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 in 2017 has an aperture of f / 1.6, which means a small loss in parameters from Apple. The iPhpne 8 is packed with all the advanced features that make it possible to capture great pictures. True Tone Quad-LED flash with Slow Sync function, six-element lens, BSI sensor, hybrid IR cut filter, autofocus with Focus Pixels technology, and noise reduction.

Main video

The video camera in the iPhone 8 can record video:

  • 4K at 24, 30, or 60 fps
  • 1080p HD video recording at 30fps or 60fps
  • 720p HD video recording at 30fps

The camera also supports optical image stabilization during video shooting, optical zoom and 6x digital zoom (only for iPhone 8 Plus). Cool feature - take photos while recording 4K video at 8MP resolution.

Frontal

The front camera has not changed, all the same 7 MP, ƒ / 2.2 aperture, BSI sensor, Retina Flash and automatic image stabilization. It seems that the cameras have not changed at all - that the iPhone 7, that the iPhone 8 - the same will take pictures.

Output

iPhone 8 is a beautiful smartphone, one might even say that it is the best and most beautiful among all iPhones in their entire history. And it has no equal in power and quality. But somehow it is not clear why Apple decided to change traditions and, after the seventh iPhone, release the eighth, and not the 7S. It is also not clear where the third model with average memory got to, why there is a charging connector if there is wireless charging and headphones. Apple is trying to take small steps in terms of innovation, because of this, it has been losing out to its competitors lately. What will happen next?

IPhone Ten, not iPhone X) is a giant leap forward in the smartphone world. The device has received a completely new design and a number of innovative technologies.

In contact with

Despite the fact that the iPhone X has some basic functions, like its "little brothers", the smartphone boasts many new unique features that are not found anywhere else.

The entry-level iPhone X costs 79,990 rubles for a model with 64 GB of memory.

So, below we take a look at the features that only the iPhone X has.

Super Retina OLED display

the iPhone X is the first iPhone to feature an AMOLED display. The diagonal screen is 5.8 inches, the resolution is 2436 × 1125 pixels, and the pixel density is 458 ppi.

Surgical stainless steel

iPhone X is the first Apple smartphone to feature surgical stainless steel.

Face ID

The iPhone X no longer has Touch ID and uses Face ID to authenticate the user. The system is a camera and sensor located in a notch on the top of the iPhone X. Face ID is a highly sophisticated technology based on the TrueDepth camera system.

TrueDepth consists of a Point Projector, an infrared camera and an infrared emitter that detects a face. When the user looks at the screen of the locked iPhone, the IR emitter detects and illuminates the face. Then an infrared camera creates an infrared image of it, and a Point Projector uses more than 30 thousand infrared points to assemble a model of the face.

The infrared image and the point model are sent via neural networks to the new A11 Bionic processor to create a mathematical template. The resulting template is then matched against the iPhone owner's face image that was set during Face ID setup.

All data is stored in the Secure Enclave, making it useless in the event of a lost or stolen device. The recognition process takes place locally on the iPhone and no data is sent to the server.

It is noteworthy that Face ID only works when the user is purposefully looking at the screen of the iPhone X.

The Cupertinians also tried to make sure that the system could not be fooled either by photography or even by a well-executed volumetric mask.

Selfie portrait mode

Thanks to the TrueDepth camera sensor, the front camera in the iPhone X also allows you to shoot in Portrait mode. The selfie camera in the top Apple smartphone is a 7-megapixel module with support for portrait lighting, which allows you to change the backlighting in the background if you want.

Both cameras on the iPhone X (front and rear) are capable of shooting with Portrait Lighting, while only the main camera can do this in the iPhone 8 Plus.

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have a good old-fashioned front-facing FaceTime HD camera.
