We save bookmarks in Google Chrome correctly. Creating a backup of bookmarks in the Google Chrome browser How to save favorites in Google Chrome

In one of the previous articles, I told you what you can do if suddenly. It turned out that many people have another problem - bookmarks disappear. Perhaps when upgrading to a new version or when reinstalling Windows, everything disappears somewhere. This is very depressing, especially if there was something important there.

What is Google Chrome sync

Google came up with one very interesting feature. You can set up synchronization once and then all your bookmarks, saved passwords, installed extensions and themes will automatically appear on other computers or mobile devices. Even the history of entered addresses will haunt you 🙂

Synchronization works very simply: all data is transferred to the Google server and stored there. When you open chrome under your account on another computer, smartphone, or after reinstalling the system, the data is copied from the server to the computer.

How to sync bookmarks

For synchronization to work, it is enough to have a Google account. The account is created automatically when you register your Gmail mail. Next, go to the Chrome settings and click the "Enter Chrome" button:

In the next step, enter your mail and password:

We can choose what exactly should be synchronized, whether to encrypt all data or only stored passwords, and how we can access all stored information.

Encryption is used for additional protection of transmitted information. I do not see a special need to encrypt all data, it is enough to encrypt only passwords. If you are using for enhanced protection of your mail, you may need to enter a PIN.

By default, your Google Account password is used to access the synchronized data, but you can also set your own passphrase. Then, with a new installation of the browser, you will need to enter both the password and the code word.

The passphrase cannot be forgotten and cannot be canceled either. Otherwise, you will have to delete all synchronized data in your Google Chrome account.

Total, if you use all the methods, you will have to enter:

  1. Google account email and password
  2. Double Authentication PIN
  3. Passphrase

It seems that all this is too complicated, but in fact, it is enough to log in once, and I would not use the code word at all. Now, on any new tab in the upper right corner, your name will flaunt - as a sign that you are logged into your account.

Synchronizing open tabs

With version 19, it became possible to synchronize even open tabs! It was mega news for me. Now you can open a bunch of tabs on your smartphone, and then restore them to your computer and vice versa. To do this, just click on the new tab "Menu -\u003e History -\u003e Other devices" and select the tabs you want.

Naturally, you must be logged into the phone with the same Google account.

Using other bookmarks

There is another approach to the problem: you can use extensions. But at the same time, bookmarks are stored not on the computer, but not on an external service, i.e. again all links are in potential danger, tk. if the service stops working, then all bookmarks will disappear. I use both methods and sometimes upload all the bookmarks from Atavi to my computer.

Greetings to you, my dear regular readers and new guests of our blog. I am sure that the topic of this article today is more relevant than ever and will remain so for several more years. And all because I will tell you how to save bookmarks in Google Chrome. This browser occupies a leading position in popularity and this is no coincidence.

Bookmarks safe and sound

C: \\ Users \\ Username \\ AppData \\ Local \\ Google \\ Chrome \\ User Data \\ Default

You can open it with notepad or copy it to your desired device. But you must admit that the location is hidden as "the death of Koschei." Therefore, it is easier to use the built-in browser feature to export bookmarks. For this perfect one does not need a google account.

We just follow a series of simple steps:

  • In the upper right corner of the browser interface there is a button with three dots or stripes (depending on the freshness of the version). This is the menu. Here we go down with the cursor to the item "Bookmarks" and a drop-down list opens in front of us, in which we click on the "Bookmarks Manager". You can also perform this operation using the hotkeys "Shift + Ctrl + O". (By the way, pay attention, below is the option "Import bookmarks and settings", remember it, it will be useful to us again.)

  • We will see an ordered list of individual bookmarks and subject folders with them, created by the user. They will be saved in exactly this form. (But this only applies to manually added sites. Visual bookmarks created automatically on the home screen do not fall into this category). Again, we look for and activate the menu button (and we already know where it is usually located in Chrome and how it looks). A list of options opens, among which we are currently interested in "Export bookmarks", and click on it. (Again, I ask for your attention. There is also a reverse import function here).

  • We return, so to speak, to export operations. Having started this process, the usual window for saving the file will open in front of us. We give it (the file) any convenient name (by default, bookmarks with the current date will be offered), check the format, which should be .html, and specify the location. That is, you can immediately save to disk, to a USB drive or send this document to the cloud service.

That's all, my friends. Google Chrome browser bookmarks are saved. Now I propose a short instruction on the topic: how can you use them?

Bookmarks that are always with you

You remember that we have already come across a menu item related to the import of bookmarks in two places. You might think that doing this through the Bookmark Manager will take one more step. But no, by clicking here "Import bookmarks", you will immediately go to the folder browser.

When you use "Import Bookmarks and Settings", you will be taken to an intermediate menu where you will have to select a source in the form of another browser or HTML file. And then everything is the same: find the file you want, click OK and enjoy the restored settings.

Synchronous "swimming" on the Internet

But, my friends, this is not the only way to create a familiar Internet environment in the browser. There is also an excellent synchronization technology that Google has perfectly implemented for all of its products. This will require an appropriate account. But if you are a registered user of Gmail, YouTube or GoogleDisk, then your account in these projects is exactly what we need to synchronize with the Goggle Chrome account.

  • Go to the menu and then to the "Settings" section. A window will appear where you can log into Chrome as a user.
  • Enter the full email address, then, then the password, then.

We get to the synchronization settings menu. In our case, we select only bookmarks. (You will experiment with settings, passwords and other "goodies" on your own. Although, if you add "History" here, then there is a high probability that the visual bookmarks will be restored).

Please note that to start synchronization, you only need to set the necessary radio buttons and leave the page. I also recommend scrolling through the entire list to the end, since at the bottom there are data encryption settings and a method of secure access to them (using a Google password or a code word).

And if you go from a laptop or an android?

Now, imagine that you have purchased a new laptop or tablet with Google Chrome installed and want to restore your favorite bookmarks.

It couldn't be easier: we carry out a similar operation with logging into your account and syncing settings, and voila!

You again have convenient access to the necessary sites (sometimes this will still require enabling synchronization in the Android settings).

The beauty of this method is that having a Chrome browser on completely different devices and operating systems (for example, a Windows PC, an Android tablet and an iOS phone), you can synchronize and save bookmarks.

And even if you add a site to the Favorites folder on your smartphone on the way to work, you will find it in the same place in the browser on your computer.

All bookmarks that exist in your browsers are usually already contained in a file whose name is "bookmarks". It is usually stored among user files at this address:

I talked about the main official ways of answering the question: how to save bookmarks in Google Chrome, in which only the resources of the user or Google are involved. No, though. There are also all sorts of extensions for this business, but I think it's not worth writing about them.

With that, let me wrap up our extensive research that will surely help you optimize your browser experience.

I wish you all good luck and new interesting travels on various useful sites.

Hello everyone! Once I needed to reinstall Windows 7 to a friend, to which he asked me the following question: will bookmarks be saved in Google Chrome? otherwise I have a lot of them there and you can't lose them. To be honest, I was a little surprised. A person values \u200b\u200bthese site addresses, but does not know how to save bookmarks in the Google Chrome browser.

Most recently, I already wrote a similar one, but only about the Mozilla Firefox browser. For Google Chrome (as for the most popular browser, although I don't use it), I think it's worth telling not just how to save bookmarks in it, but also how to make bookmarks synchronize between all your computers.

In fact, everything is simple. Save your bookmarks in a separate file and hide it away in a safe place. When you need it, we load it into Chrome - there is nothing supernatural here. Of course, it's worth doing this, despite the possibility of synchronization. Well, now let's look at everything in order.

By the way, in this note, the browser Goggle Chrome version 36 was used. So, click on the settings (three lines in the upper right corner), Bookmarks, Bookmarks manager (This whole combination can be replaced with the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + O)

Click on the "Arrange" button and select the line "Export bookmarks to HTML file ..."

The save form will open. Here we need to come up with a name for the file with future bookmarks (we are offered a bookmark and today's date - it suits me perfectly) and choose a place - where to save. I'll save it to documents, but you'd better save it to an external drive (USB flash drive, for example).

We save and check - is our file with bookmarks in place?

Everything is in order, the file is exactly where we saved it. So what's next? - you ask. Further it is even easier - we do the same thing, only in reverse order. We load not into a file, but from it. We also stomp into Settings, Bookmarks, Bookmarks Manager and select the item "Import bookmarks from HTML file ..."

In the form that opens, select the previously prepared file with the bookmarks we saved and click "Open".

We are waiting for a few seconds and voila - all your bookmarks are in place, but this is not the most convenient option, but the most reliable!

How to sync bookmarks in Google Chrome?

If you need to save bookmarks only in order to view them later in another place, then it makes sense to set up synchronization. What will it give? - You will have one browser for several jobs. Here you have a computer at home and at work. We added a page to bookmarks at home - and this bookmark appeared at work. In general, it is very convenient - I recommend it!

So how do you implement this? - Everything in the world is simple! Go to "Settings" and select the item "Log in to Chrome ..." (Do you have a Gmail account? If not, then we register here)

Enter your account name and your password.

We see that everything is fine. This must be done on all computers - where synchronization is needed.

If you leave convenience out of sight, you will notice that this is not a completely safe method and along with it it is recommended to periodically save all our bookmarks to a file. In my practice, there was one unpleasant case when a virus deleted all bookmarks and assigned a left search engine to the main page. Synchronization has done its dark job - it has synchronized all disastrous changes across all devices.

So convenience is convenience, but you shouldn't forget about safety. Well, now you know exactly how to save bookmarks in Google Chrome, and such problems will bypass you! Until next time on the pages of my humble blog!

Inexperienced PC users are wondering how to save an open tab. This may be required in order to further have quick access to the site you like or interested in. In today's article, we will cover all the possible options for saving web pages.

By saving tabs, most users mean adding sites to bookmarks or exporting bookmarks already existing in the program (less often - one site). We will consider in detail both one and the other, but we will start with simpler and not obvious nuances for beginners.

Method 1: Saving open sites after closing

It is not always necessary to directly save the web page. It is quite possible that it will be enough for you that when you start the browser, the same tabs will open that were active before it was closed. This can be done in the Google Chrome settings.

With these simple steps, you will never lose sight of the last opened websites, even after restarting or shutting down your computer.

Method 2: Add to bookmarks by standard means

We figured out how to save previously opened tabs after restarting the browser, now let's look at how to add a site you like to bookmarks. This can be done both with a separate tab and with all currently open ones.

Adding one site

For these purposes, Google Chrome has a special button located at the end (right) of the address bar.

Adding all open websites

  • Right-click (right mouse button) on any of them and select "Add all tabs to bookmarks".
  • Use hotkeys "CTRL + SHIFT + D".

All pages opened in the Internet browser will immediately be added as bookmarks to the panel below the address bar.

Previously, you will be able to set the name of the folder and select the location to save it - directly the panel itself or a separate directory on it.

Activating the display of the "Bookmark bar"

By default, this browser element is displayed only on its home page, directly below the Google Chrome search bar. But this can be changed quite easily.

For greater convenience and organization, the ability to create folders is provided. This makes it possible, for example, to group web pages by subject.

Method 3: 3rd party bookmark managers

Besides the standard Bookmark Barsprovided in Google Chrome, there are many more functional solutions for this browser. They are available in a wide range in the extension store. You just have to use the search and select the appropriate Bookmark Manager.

The best of this kind of products have previously been reviewed on our website in a separate article, in which you will also find links to download them.

Among the abundance of available solutions, Speed \u200b\u200bDial is worth highlighting as one of the most popular and easy to use. You can familiarize yourself with all the features of this browser add-on in a separate article.

Method 4: sync bookmarks

One of the most useful features of Google Chrome is data synchronization, which allows you to save bookmarked sites and even open tabs. Thanks to it, you can open a specific site on one device (for example, on a PC), and then continue working with it on another (for example, on a smartphone).

Now all the data you save will be available on any other device, provided that you log into your profile in the Internet browser.

You can read more about the capabilities of data synchronization in Google Chrome in a separate article on our website.

Method 5: export bookmarks

In cases where you plan to switch from Google Chrome to any other browser, but do not want to lose sites previously saved to bookmarks, the export function will help. By using it, you can easily "move", for example, to Mozilla Firefox, Opera, or even to the standard Windows browser Microsoft Edge.

Method 6: Save the page

You can save the page of the website you are interested in not only to your browser bookmarks, but also directly to disk, in a separate HTML file. By double clicking on it, you initiate the opening of the page in a new tab.

It is noteworthy that the website page saved in this way will be displayed in Google Chrome even without an Internet connection (but without the ability to navigate). In some cases, this can be extremely useful.

Method 7: Create a shortcut

By creating a shortcut to the site in Google Chrome, you can use it as a standalone web application. Such a page will not only have its own icon (favicon displayed on an open tab), but will also open in the taskbar as a separate window, and not directly in the web browser. This is very convenient if you want to always keep the site of interest in front of your eyes, and not look for it in the abundance of other tabs. The algorithm of actions to be performed is similar to the previous method.

    1. Open Google Chrome settings and select items one by one "Additional tools""Create shortcut".
    2. In the pop-up window, give the shortcut a suitable name or leave the value indicated by the initial value, and then click on the button "Create".
    3. A shortcut to the site you saved will appear on the Windows desktop, which can be launched by double-clicking. By default, it will open in a new browser tab, but this can be changed.
    4. On the bookmarks bar, click the button "Applications" (formerly called "Services").

Note: If the button "Applications" missing, go to the home page of Google Chrome, right-click (RMB) on the bookmarks bar and select the item Show button "Services".
    5. Find the shortcut to the site that you saved as a web application in the second step, right-click on it and select the item from the menu "Open in a new window".

    6. From now on, the site you saved will open as an independent application and look the same.
