Firmware via Odin. Instructions for flashing the Samsung phone via Odin. Odin does not see Samsung phone: what to do

All official firmware for Samsung smartphones are released for installation through the Odin program. This program can install firmware on all Samsung smartphones using the Android operating system. If you decide to upgrade or restore your Samsung, then it's time to find out how to flash Samsung through Odin.

How to flash Samsung through Odin and what you need for this

Before starting the firmware of your smartphone, you need to make sure that the battery charge is more than 50%, otherwise the smartphone / tablet may turn off during software installation, after which it will be very difficult to reanimate the device.

While charging the device, you need to prepare everything you need to update or restore your Samsung. Download and install the official Samsung driver, also download and unzip the archive from Odin.

Instructions on how to flash Samsung via Odin will not help if the wrong firmware is selected.

How to choose firmware for Samsung

The first step is to determine how many files should be in the firmware. There are two types of firmware for Samsung:

  • Single-file - simple firmware, great for updating a smartphone
  • Service (Multi-file) - 4-file firmware, with which it is best to restore smartphone software

Also, firmware via Odin can help with memory re-allocation, for this a PIT file is used. In simple words - you can take the memory from the built-in storage and give this memory for installing applications. Without need, it’s better not to use the PIT file.

On all new Samsung devices, there are restrictions on the rollback of the system, which is associated with the bootloader. You will not be able to install firmware with a loader version lower than what is installed now. To find out which firmware is right for you, follow these steps:

  • Open Settings - About Phone
  • Find “Software Version”
  • The first 4 characters after the device model - this is the bootloader version

Samsung firmware with the same bootloader version will suit you. . If you can’t decide which firmware to download, write your device and software version in the comments, indicate your wishes and I will select the firmware for you.

Answers on questions:

What should I do if Odin does not see my phone?

Reinstall the drivers and reboot the PC, check your USB cable, better connect another. Also try using a different port for connecting USB.

In the world of mobile devices, “firmware” refers to the version of the device’s operating system. For example, saying "flash device", they mean "install a new version or a new shell for the system." “Reflash device”, respectively, “reinstall system”. For the firmware of Android devices, for example, there is a special program - Odin. Reinstalling the system on a phone or tablet with it will not be difficult.

Firmware used to be called the contents of computer memory. There were no hard drives then; memory on magnetic cores was used. Such machines were called ROM (read-only memory). The memory consisted of U- and W-shaped cores with a small gap of 1 mm into which the wire fit. In one position, the wire meant “0”, in the other “1”. The wire was pulled by hand, using the "pencil" device, which resembled a needle. And this tedious and painstaking work was called "firmware". As a result, errors were almost always obtained, which could be corrected only by cutting the wire and laying it in the desired position (1 or 0). This was called a flashing.

Over time, the word has taken root in mobile technology. At the turn of the millennium, programmers and engineers on slang began to say "reflash the device", instead of "reinstall the system."

Types of firmware

The firmware of the device, in other words, the reinstallation of software, is needed if you are not satisfied with the software component.

The firmware installation can be stored in one or more files. Depending on this, single-file and multi-file firmware are divided. Allocate Recovery firmware (Recover), which reinstall software for Recovery Mode; kernel firmware, i.e. reinstalling the operating system version.

As for the kernel firmware, they can be divided into official and custom. The official firmware versions released by the manufacturer of your mobile device or Google is the best option for undemanding users: they do not have a volume of functions, but they are reliable and designed specifically for your device model. And, importantly, they are under warranty.

But any third-party (custom) custom firmware frees the manufacturer from the obligation of warranty repair. Do not think that this is some kind of violation of the rules or the firmware is illegal. Manufacturers simply cannot know what will happen to your device due to third-party firmware, and do not want to answer for it.

But if you are ready to say goodbye to warranty service, third-party firmware will give you a lot of opportunities. There are different types of third-party firmware, the most famous: Cyanogen Mod, MIUI, Illusion ROMS, AOKP.

Cyanogen mod

Cyanogen Mod was born as a custom modification and grew to the most popular custom Android firmware: in 2016, there are about 14 million devices with Cyanogen installed.

It is reliable, stable and works on many smartphones and tablets. A big plus of the firmware: there is a normal installer. To install CyanogenMod, you do not need to worry about Recovery modes, obtaining root rights and other deep things. The program will do everything for you.

CyanogenMod, unlike standard versions of Android, provides full access to the operating system. Even root access on the device will not give such freedom. This results in a variety of applications and security issues. The system is open not only for you, but also for viruses. Therefore, it is better to use CyanogenMod together with a good antivirus. More firmware saves you from imposed standard manufacturer applications that cannot be removed.

Cyanogen simplifies the work with the device, supports a lot of themes, allows changing any element of the system, and increases productivity due to optimization.

MIUI

MIUI is based on the source code of Android and CyanogenMod. Therefore, it has many similarities with Cyanogen. This is complete freedom for the user, and improved performance, and support for themes. But MIUI has an unusual Android interface, which is something similar to iOS. MIUI completely lacks a menu with applications; instead, an unlimited number of desktops with a set of applications are used. But, unlike iOS, MIUI also supports widgets, which are many in the integrated store.

On MIUI, you can install all applications from the Google Play Market. In the wired SuperMarket store they are all there. And some of those paid on Play are free on Supermarket.

Illusion roms

Illusion ROMS significantly speeds up the device and reduces energy costs. It has advanced accelerometer settings: for example, reduce the angle of rotation for “turning” the screen interface from 90 to 80 degrees. You can also adjust the screen: in addition to the brightness settings, you can change the contrast and color reproduction to improve the image.

Aokp

AOKP has many functions of CyanogenMod (most firmware is made on its basis), but has unlimited possibilities for customizing the interface. You can change everything, each individual menu item. You can upload your animation for the interface, create your own template for a vibrating alert, put special actions on any gesture and any click, you can change the background and appearance of the notification panel, remake the status bar, manually configure the processor.

A separate topic is widgets. They are also amenable to adjustment. AOKP devices can turn Android into something unimaginably beautiful, would be enough of fantasy.

What you need to know before flashing your phone or tablet: basic rules

  1. It is only necessary to flash the device using the Odin program. In no case do not use the Kies program, because of this there may be problems, the phone will stop loading and turning on, because the / data section will not be erased.
  2. You need to flash the device only when it has 100% battery power, and the computer is connected to uninterrupted power. Any power outage may interfere with the operation of the device.
  3. You cannot pull out the USB cable during firmware. It is impossible to interrupt the firmware, uninstalled firmware will not allow turning on the device. Therefore, it is better not to touch the cable.
  4. Use only original USB cables.. Third-party, especially cheap Chinese, cords can be made poorly, due to which the signal will be interrupted and the firmware will not be installed on the device.
  5. The address of the folder in which the firmware is located must not contain Cyrillic characters. Not a single Russian letter in the address should be, only English.

Preparing to reinstall the system

First you need to download the Odin program, which is used to flash Samsung devices.  Then you need to download the firmware itself: the official Samsung firmware or any custom firmware (single-file in .tar format or multi-file in.md5 formats). You need to install ADB drivers on your computer so that the device can seamlessly connect to your computer via USB (usually these drivers are installed when you connect, but if this does not happen, download them on the Samsung website or install universal ADB drivers from Google). And prepare the whole, intact, original USB cable.

How to flash a Samsung device using Odin - step-by-step instructions

Before starting the firmware on the device, you need to enable special mode so that it can work with Odin. To do this, turn off the smartphone and simultaneously hold down the volume down, Home button and the power button of the device.

Single-file firmware

We include the Odin program. In the AP or PDA field, we place the downloaded firmware file.

Click the Start button. The whole process takes 2–5 minutes. As it ends, the empty square will be painted blue, and a large PASS sign will appear in it. Your Samsung will reboot. This will complete the firmware, you can disconnect the device from the computer and check it.

Multi-file firmware

Launch the Odin program.

You have several files. Each of them needs to be inserted into the corresponding field (instead of "..." there will be a certain set of characters):

  • PIT file - not in all - in the PIT field
  • APBOOT_ "..." .tar.md5 in the BL or BOOTLOADER field
  • CODE_ "..." .tar.md5 in the APB or PDA field
  • MODEM_ "..." .tar.md5 in the CP field, CSC_ "..." .tar.md5 in the CSC field

Now click Start and wait a few minutes. A message appears stating that the firmware has been completed, the device will reboot, and you can disconnect it from the computer. Samsung will reflash.

Recovery Mode

To install custom Recovery, you must first download it. The main rule here: universal Recovery does not exist. Look specifically for your model. The TWRP recovery option is popular, link: http://teamw.in/twrp_view_all_devices.

If the Recovery file has the .img format, then it must be converted to .tar, otherwise Odin will not be able to flash the smartphone.

Before flashing, it’s worth changing some parameters in the settings. To do this, go to "Settings" -\u003e "Developer Options". And in this menu you need to enable USB debugging.

After enable “OEM unlock” and disable “Remote control”.

Now open Odin and put the downloaded file in the AP field. Click Start and wait a few minutes. The device will reboot and Recovery will be flashed. You can disconnect the device from the computer.

Core

The kernel is flashed exactly the same as Recovery. Download the desired firmware file. In the developer menu, enable USB debugging, OEM unlock, and disable Samsung remote control. Then open Odin, put the file in the AP field and click Start. When the device restarts, you can disconnect it from the computer. The firmware will be installed.

If custom firmware is installed

Re-flashing the custom assembly of the system is no different from flashing the official one. First, download the latest version, open the Odin program and put the firmware files in the appropriate fields. Then click Start, wait 2-5 minutes until the PASS message appears on a blue background. Now the smartphone will reboot, and the firmware installation on this will be completed. You can disconnect the device from the computer.

Some custom firmwares have a more convenient installation method. In particular, the developers of Cyanogen Mod made an installer that does all the steps on their own. You just need to download it to your computer, connect your mobile device to the PC and follow the instructions of the program. After a few minutes, the installation will be completed and you can use the fresh Cyanogen Mod. It is also convenient and easy to update Cyanogen Mod.

Possible errors: what to do if the device does not turn on

A variety of errors can occur during firmware. Odin may stop seeing the device, the process may freeze, some accidental malfunction may occur, the process may break unexpectedly. All these problems lead to errors in the firmware of the device, because of which the smartphone may stop turning on.

In this case, you need to make a Hard Reset - reset to factory settings - and re-flash the device. To do this, turn on Recovery Mode (hold down the volume down button, the Home button and the device’s power button). In Recovery mode, find the wipe data / factory reset item and open it. Check the Wipe Data checkbox and click OK. After a few seconds, all settings will be reset, and the "premature" firmware files are deleted. Sew the device again.

We figured out how to flash a Samsung mobile device on Android. For this, a special Odin program is used, designed for service centers. There is nothing difficult in this, the main thing is to follow the rules so as not to break the device. But don't worry too much. No firmware can lead to a fatal failure that would turn a smartphone into a useless piece of iron. All these errors can be corrected by resetting the settings to the factory settings and re-flashing the device.

The program is intended for flashing Android devices. Flash Samsung smartphone or tablet is quite simple, but if you do not know a few basic rules, the phone can be disabled. Below we will tell you how to flash Samsung Odin "ohm correctly.

To use Odin does not require any special skills, the program can be used even by not very sophisticated users.
All currently available versions of Odin:,. The most stable version is v1.85.

Samsung Odin "ohm firmware rules

the main thing: Make sure that your Samsung is charged before the firmware and in no case is disconnected during the firmware process. Do not unplug the USB cable before the firmware is finished. Use, preferably, only the original and undamaged USB cable that you received with the device. The path on the computer to the installed firmware should not contain Russian letters (C: \\ samsung - correct, C: \\ New folder - no).

Many users, when trying to connect the phone to a computer using a USB cable, are faced with the fact that the computer does not recognize the connected gadget. The connected device is charging, while there is no access to the smartphone itself and its internal content. I also encountered this synchronization problem, and in this article I will explain why the computer does not see the phone via USB, and also share various methods for solving this issue.

The whole complex of causes of the problem that the PC does not see the smartphone via the USB cable, I would divide into hardware and software, and below I will list each of them, in parallel, providing instructions for fixing it. But before using the techniques indicated by me, try restarting your computer and smartphone - this does not help as rarely as it seems. This problem mainly arises with Samsung, Lenovo, HTC, LG and Fly devices.

So why does the computer not see the phone via USB, but it charges - hardware reasons

1. The cable is damagedUSB.   It often happens that the cause of this dysfunction is damage to the USB cable itself. Cables of little-known or “non-name” manufacturers do not have a large margin of safety, and can fail just a couple of months from the start of operation, and as a result the computer will not detect the connected phone.

In addition, even the most reliable cables from world brands are subject to stochastic damage - they can be accidentally damaged during use, pets can bite or spoil the children. Therefore, first of all, inspect your USB cable for the possibility of mechanical damage, and, if the cable is not intact, try using it to connect your device to another computer. If the device is not recognized on another PC, try replacing the cord.

2. The port is damagedUSB  on the computer.  The USB ports used on the computer are also subject to various mechanical damage, including damage to the USB controller, as well as the south bridge of the motherboard. Try inserting the cable into another USB port, if this did not help to fix the phone’s connection to the PC, follow the further tips.

3. The socket for connecting the cable on the phone is damaged.  Have water got into the smartphone’s socket and is it damaged? If so, then replace it.

4. Try to remove the battery.According to reviews by some users who also had a problem with the fact that the computer did not see the phone through US-ES, removing the battery from the smartphone helped.

Turn off the battery, pull out the battery for a few seconds, then put it back and turn on your device again.

If nothing helps you fix this problem, then describe your situation. What you have already done and what happens with your Android device when you connect the gadget to a PC via USB in the comments, I will try to help not only me, but everyone who has encountered this problem.

The computer does not see the phone via USB - software reasons

After describing the hardware reasons, we list the main software reasons, if your computer still does not recognize a cell phone connected using a USB cable, follow the instructions below.

1. We work with the settings.  We go into the settings of our device, select "Memory" there, click on the three dots at the top (Properties), select "USB-connection to a computer" and put a tick in front of "Media device" ("USB drive"). If you have a checkmark next to using USB as a modem - uncheck it.

On the PC, the Windows Update service (for downloading drivers for the phone) and the service for detecting new devices must be enabled. Do not forget to unlock your phone when connected to a computer, this is important.

If you are a conservative and you have Windows XP installed, download the Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) for XP from the Microsoft website and install it on your computer.

2. If you have driversUSBports, the computer may not see the phone.  When drivers to USB ports are dysfunctional, the latter simply stop working. To fix this problem, install USB drivers from the “native” disk with the drivers for the motherboard of your PC, or download the latest drivers on the website of the motherboard manufacturer.

Also, for some reason, power may be cut off for a number of ports.

3. The device drivers have flown.  Go to the "Device Manager" and see if there is a question or exclamation mark in the item "Portable devices".

Check if your device is there and make sure that it works fine by right-clicking on it and clicking on "Properties". If it is not there, or if you have doubts, remove the driver, disconnect the phone from the computer, and then turn it on again and let the system install the driver again. This can help solve the problem that the smartphone does not connect via USB to the computer.

It will also not be superfluous to enter the website of the manufacturer of your smartphone and download the latest drivers for it on your PC (for example, Samsung has special Samsung Kies software).

4. Install the updateKB3010081 (KB3099229).   For owners of Windows 10, you may need to install update KB3010081, which is responsible for working with Windows Media Player. This player is directly related to the normal operation of the MTP service (Media Transfer Protocol), so download and install the update data.

Also, a common cause may be the unreliable assembly of the OS itself on a PC. Only rearranging Windows of a more working version will help here.

5. Custom firmware is not working.  The desire of many fans to play with the firmware for their Android device can serve them poorly in the form of a device failure to work normally with the computer. Try to restore the standard firmware or recover from backup (if any).

There are no drivers for the phone on the computer

Although, usually, a computer with the latest OS detects and sees a smartphone via USB without problems, there may be reverse cases. Try to search for a driver for your smartphone on the network, sometimes a driver may approach similar models of this brand.

The phone may not be detected by the computer due to viruses

Trite, but all kinds of virus programs can block work with external mobile devices. Try to check your computer with Dr. antivirus applications. Web CureIt !, in some cases, this may help.

If the problem of computer detection of a mobile device is not resolved, reset the settings

If so far, your computer does not see the phone via USB, resetting the smartphone using Hard Reset. Go to your phone’s settings, select the “Backup” menu item, and in it select “Data Reset”.

But I immediately warn you that you will lose your files and settings located in the internal memory of the phone (the files on the SD card will remain untouched), so this item should be used only as a last resort!

Conclusion

As you can see, problems with the lack of visibility of the connected phone on a PC can be both software and hardware in nature, and there are a considerable number of such problem factors. I would advise first to pay attention to possible mechanical damage in the cable and device, and only then switch to software methods.

In many cases, a regular reboot of the smartphone (temporary removal of the battery), as well as working with the USB connection settings of the phone, can help. If all of the above does not help and the computer does not see the phone via USB, but is charging, then you may need to contact a qualified service center.
