Hello everybody! Yes, just with such a problem - music is not recorded on the iPhone via iTunes, as many as 2 acquaintances contacted me in the last day! To be honest, I was a little confused when I first heard about this problem, since until that day there were no problems - you take a song from iTunes and drag it to your iPhone or iPad. But as it turned out, after the latest iOS updates, something has changed in iGadgets, and now I'll show you what exactly!
ICloud Music Library
The problem is buried in iCloud, or rather in the iCloud Media Library section, which synchronizes all songs on all your devices. What exactly is going on there, in this library and how it works, I will not say. And even Apple itself is already confused about why they need iTunes Match, iTunes Music Store and iCloud Music Library! I do not want to puzzle how iTunes Match and the iCloud library interact with each other, I will only say that by turning off the library in the settings, you can record music to iPhone / iPod / iPad from your computer via iTunes.
Before turning off iCloud Music Library, go to Music and see what's there:
As you can see, there are several folders and playlists - this is what I now have on my Mac in iTunes (I deleted the untitled folder from iTunes, but it doesn't want to disappear from the iPhone):
And in this mode we can't upload music to iPhone via iTunes from a computer ... We can only listen to music online or download some song or folder to the device, if we click on "..." to the right of the folder or song and click on Make available offline, although this does not always work:
Turn off iCloud Music Library
Now let's figure out how to get rid of this scourge and return to the original, classic look. Go to the iPhone / iPod / iPad in Settings, scroll down to the Music section, and turn off the iCloud Media Library inside it!
If for some reason the iPhone swears that it will delete all the music on the device - calmly ignore and delete! After that, the Music program on the device will show what it should, that is, nothing. In my case, we see some playlists and music, but this is just what I have already bought for myself in iTMS 🙂
Now you can safely connect iPhone to iTunes and record music in any way convenient for you!
By the way, after several switching on and off the iCloud media library, folders with numbers appear in playlists - this is most likely an iOS jamb and will have to be fixed in the next update ... It's very easy to delete these folders - click on the "..." on the right and click on Delete.
As a result, I still did not understand through what mechanism the iCloud library works - through iTunes Match (taking into account that I am not subscribed to it) or somehow. What is the program for?
What functions does the presented application have? ICloud iTunes Music Library makes it easy to synchronize data between devices, while using cloud storage. In other words, all information stored on the iPhone, iPad, iMac has a copy in the cloud storage. This makes it possible to receive data and move all information from any device without using unnecessary wires, without going through registration and through tedious waiting.
It should be noted that this is quite convenient. With the help of the iCloud media library, you can transfer any digital data as soon as possible. In just a minute, they will be processed on another device. As a rule, such data includes these multimedia files, however, the use of simple documents, presentations and others is also allowed. However, you need to count on the amount of storage memory.
How to enable the program?
It doesn't take much effort to do this. After all, the standard settings make it possible to activate the sleep / active mode switch of the utility. You will need to go to the device settings, find the iCloud menu and the "iCloud library" sub-item. Then it just remains to activate the slider. After that, the function will become available. It should be remembered that the use of cloud storage involves registration and the creation of a single account for the devices.
When all the actions are performed correctly, you can easily enter and exchange information with the virtual server. Its memory capacity is limited, so you should be smart about filling with data. Otherwise, there may simply not be enough space. However, this is only the first step in using the storage. It can be increased in the future. Photo storage
The main function of the service is cloud transfer of photos. When iCloud is active, every picture taken throughout the day will have a backup in the service. It will persist for a certain time. This is provided for the purpose of security against possible deletion of information. After that, you can simply delete the photo from your phone, and it remains in the cloud storage forever. This method is quite convenient, especially if you often have to take pictures.
However, the functions of the program do not end there. A photo editor is provided with it. True, it can hardly be called advanced, but it makes it possible to edit color shades, as well as cut out unnecessary elements from the frame. Do not forget that you can use the editor from any device.
Video storage
Any device owner can use the iCloud Music Library, be it a novice user or a person with significant experience in this type of activity. Therefore, the program is very popular. In addition to the main function, which is to store and synchronize data, you can use various editors designed for multimedia files. The main advantages of the service include efficiency, convenience and ease of management. Such advantages open up ample opportunities for maintaining a personal video diary, as well as active employment in the field of video recording. Currently, the editor has standard functions, but this is not the limit. In the future, the developers plan to improve it.
Storing Music As mentioned above, iCloud Music Library (Music) includes standard features and an editor. This opens up the following opportunities for users:

Let me remind you that by default the system has a photostream that stores only 1000 of the latest photos in the cloud. Also the important word “ video"- before that, the video was stored exclusively on the device on which it was filmed.
2. The user has the opportunity to store thumbnails of photos and optimized videos on the iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and Mac. Due to this, the user can free up a significant amount of space on their devices. Especially the savings will be noticeable with a large number of photos and videos. But this savings has its drawback - more about it below.
3. If you transfer all your iDevices to the iCloud Library, you will get all the benefits of syncing with the cloud (iCloud Drive). Photos and changes in them will appear on all your devices, that is, you have a single media library. A scheme like this one: “took a picture on an iPad, edited on a Mac, posted on Instagram from an iPhone” will finally work as it should!
4. Due to the fact that an unlimited number of photos will be stored in the cloud, most likely free 5 gigabytes will not be enough for the user. The user will have to switch to paid plans. Now the cost of 20 gigabytes in iCloud Drive is only 39 rubles per month. This is not much and for most users this number of gigabytes will be enough for the eyes. If not, then the tariffs are more expensive and more serious at your service.
5. Instead of two albums, Camera Roll and My Photo Stream, in the Photo program, a single album “All Photos” will appear.

How do I turn on iCloud Music Library?
Before enabling Library, you need to make sure that your iCloud plan allows you to switch to iCloud Music Library without any problems. Here you must soberly assess the place that your photos and videos will take in the cloud. If you have 10 thousand photos on iPad and 3 gigabytes are free in iCloud (see Settings -\u003e iCloud-\u003e Storage), then it's clear that all your stuff won't fit into the cloud. Try to either remove some of the media or increase your tariff plan.
OS X users should be especially careful. Yosemite 10.10.3 introduces the Photos program. If you turn on iCloud Music Library there, your current iCloud plan might not be enough. For example, my computer library is over 150 gigabytes. Perhaps it makes sense to store your computer library in some other cloud.
Next, turn on the iCloud Music Library switch ( Settings-\u003e iCloud-\u003e Photos) and connect your iPad (iPhone or iPod Touch) to a power source. If there is a Wi-Fi network, all Photos and Videos will start uploading to the cloud. The speed of this procedure depends on the speed of the outgoing traffic of your Internet connection and the size of your media library.
To avoid problems, I recommend connecting your devices to iCloud Music Library one at a time. We switched it on on one, waited until the data merged into the cloud, checked that everything was fine and took up the next device. Firstly, you will not win in speed anyway (your outgoing channel is not rubber). Second, the beta status implies the possibility of unexpected bugs. And in the final version, I would recommend playing it safe.
Also deliberately choose one of the two options:
Optimize iPad / iPhone / iPod storage. (To save space on the device. But when you access a photo, it will be loaded from the cloud. In fact, only a small preview photo is stored on the device.) This is not always convenient.
- Download keeping the original (if you need photos in the original resolution on the device).
The "Upload to My Photo Stream" option is best left on. It's not like manually uploading new photos to the cloud ...

Deleting Photos (or video) in iCloud Music Library happens in two steps.
1. Deleting a photo on one of the devices. It goes to the "Recently Deleted" folder. After 30 days, the photo will be deleted from there automatically.
2. If you don't want to wait 30 days, you can also delete the picture from the Recently Deleted album. The photo will finally disappear from all devices and from the iCloud Media Library.

But the iCloud photo library annoys me pretty much. Every now and then I come across a misunderstanding of my acquaintances, in the essence of this cloud media library and in how it differs from a photostream. So, now I will tell you about the features of the same iCloud media library and how to live with it.
Ever since Steve Jobs released the first iPhone, users have been able to save photos from iPhone to computer and vice versa. At first, we used a simple cable to save photos to iPhoto, then Photo Stream came to our rescue, and the iCloud Photo Library was the last to reach us. Usually, when parsing this topic, I use an A4 sheet and a pen and put everything on the shelves within a couple of minutes. Now it will take a little more time, but I will try to explain everything in detail 🙂
Save Photos from iPhone to Mac via Cable
The first way we can save photos to our Mac is to wire the photos into iPhoto, Photos or Image Capture. Everything is simple here: connect the iOS device to the computer and click on the import button in the corresponding program. If you periodically upload photos and videos on Mac in this way, then every time you only add those photos that are not yet in the library. After saving the photos, the originals from the iPhone can be deleted. This method has its advantages:
- photos and videos are saved as quickly as possible;
- transparent work of this method;
- interferes with the constant inclusion of iPhoto / Photos when the iPhone is connected;
- if the automatic launch of the program is disabled, then you must not forget to throw off the photos;
- transfer photos only from iPhone to Mac, no synchronization;

Saving photos via Photo Stream
We figured out the wire, but there is one problem - there is not always a wire at hand or to go after it (this is about me). Since most of our Macs and iPhones have an iCloud account, we can also activate the photo stream. By the way, let me remind you that the account on the gadgets must be the same! And how you can organize your accounts on devices, I 🙂
Let's figure out how Photo Stream works! A photo taken on an iPhone or saved in a camera roll (from WhatsApp, for example), if WiFi is available, breaks into all devices with the same Apple ID. And if your Mac is also connected to the Internet, then the photo will appear in iPhoto or Photos. The photostream stores last thousand photos and when you take 1001, the oldest photo of their photostream goes away. Leaves the photostream, but remains saved on devices if you have not deleted it before. That is, you just need to take a picture and connect your iPhone or iPad to WiFi so that the photo appears in the photo stream and on other devices.
With this method of transferring photos from iPhone iCloud space is not wasted and you don't need to buy it. Even if you use the basic free plan for 5 GB and have already managed to fully occupy it, then in this case the photos will be sent to your Mac. It's like transferring contacts and calendars - the main thing is to have the Internet.
Now let's say a user has not one iPhone and one Mac, but a pair of iPhones, iPads, iPod Touch for running, Macbook at home, and iMac at work. And all hang on the same ID and all have a photo stream. If you take a photo on one of the iPhones, then it will automatically burst on all these devices! And from here comes one ba-a-alshoy minus - photo stream, it is a one-way stream of photos, not sync... I.e:
If the photo is good, then it settles in the memory of our gadgets and we are happy. But if we went to the store and took off the price tags, so that we could compare them with the price tags in another store, then we won't be able to delete them all at once on all devices! It will be necessary to delete unnecessary photos on each device one by one ... Oh, I don't know about you, but I have a similar situation all the time: a lot of "one-time" photos, several similar pictures or postcards with congratulations from WhatsApp for each holiday ... And every time all the photos go to all home media libraries.
Well, as we can see, there are both good sides in the photostream:
- convenient transfer of photos to Mac and other Apple devices;
- no need to buy additional space in iCloud;
- if you lose your phone, Photo Stream can save the last thousand photos (if you only have one iPhone at all), even if you haven't backed up to iCloud;
So are the negative ones:
- photostream is NOT omnidirectional synchronization;
- you cannot centrally delete unnecessary photos or organize them into folders or albums;
By the way, this method of distributing photos reminds me of the old POP3 mail protocol. There it was the same: letters are received from the server to all devices, but are deleted from each one by one. And the outdated POP3 was replaced by modern IMAP, and in our case it is ...
ICloud Photo Library or iCloud Photo Library
Oh yes, this is exactly the same analogue of IMAP in the mail world. The iCloud photo library works differently than the photo stream, since the single central place for saving photos is the iCloud cloud on the Apple server, and not every device. That is, by pressing the shutter button of your iPhone, the photo automatically flies to the iCloud server (if you have a WiFi connection), from where it is already sent to all devices with the iCloud media library turned on. The captured frame does not just use the iCloud service to transfer it to other devices, but is saved in the cloud, taking up space in iCloud! It is important!
It works schematically like this:
I will say right away that this method synchronization very convenient and promising. But let's sort out the situation in order. Suppose a user bought an iMac and an iPhone, and they helped create and set up an Apple ID for the change. The user takes a couple of photos on his iPhone and sees that in a couple of minutes all the photos appear on the iMac and the user is happy! Then he deletes the photo on the iMac and sees that the photo on the iPhone is also deleted. He is happy, but starts to get a little nervous: what if I (or a child) start deleting pictures on one device, then they will disappear on the other? Yes, they will, but on Mac in Photos, on iPhone and in iCloud there is a recycle bin from which you can restore everything, so this is not a problem.
Suppose that our user decided to upload all the photos from the old archive, which contains about 40 GB of photos, to the Photos library on his Mac. He transfers all folders with photos and is glad that in the media library they are distributed by date, by events. Then he looks at the iPhone and can't believe his eyes: everything is the same there! "Agony! Cool! Kaef! ”- The dude yells, until suddenly the iPhone tells him that the place in iCloud is over! The guy is not screwing, he buys an additional 50 GB in the cloud for 59 rubles and does not buzz again! By the way, be smart as a dude, buy a seat on iCloud 😉
But here an ambush awaits our friend again: he bought an iPhone for 32 GB, and a photo in his iMac's media library is almost 40 GB. And then the iPhone screeches again and offers to squeeze the media library, they say, the iPhone will save not a whole photo, but a truncated copy. And the photos will take up little space and everything will fit on the device. "Fabulous!" - thought the dude and agreed. And only then he realized that to view photos on his iPhone in normal quality, he needs to have an active Internet connection so that pictures in good quality can be uploaded from the cloud! On the other hand, the Internet is almost unlimited, the connection is good everywhere - don't worry and rejoice!
Cool story? Liked? I also like it when everything happens according to a similar scenario, but this is a fairy tale in which very few users live. And now the reality:
- a proposal with the inclusion of a photo library iCloud occurs in the Photo program with minimal decoding of the consequences! Just the big blue Turn on iCloud Library button ...
- this offer occurs after updating macOS or iOS and the user may simply not pay attention to the warning, but simply press the big blue button, without hesitation!
- more often than not, we do not know how much photos are in the Photo library on Mac or iPhone, and turning on the photo library confronts us with the fact that we have run out of space in iCloud!
- turning on the iCloud Photo Library on your Mac and iPhone at the same time will result in a complete merge of all photos! And no one cares that you have carefully transferred only selected pictures to your Mac!
- if a user turned on iCloud Music Library on one device, but did not turn it on on another, then a strong confusion begins, from which it is difficult to get out without spending a lot of time, nerves and maybe even money (buying additional space in iCloud)!
These are the realities I most often come across: a user accidentally turned on something, and then problems began: iCloud ran out of space, photos from the iPhone are not transferred to the Mac, there is not enough space on the iPhone, and so on.
So what do you do with your iCloud Music Library?
This is a good question, but it needs clarification. If you just bought your first Apple device, then you can turn on the iCloud media library and live as you live. On the other hand, using a media library will not provide any advantages until you have other Apple devices with which you would like to have a common photo base. In any case, I recommend buying additional space in iCloud and backing up your data - this will definitely be more useful, besides, all your photos will be stored in the backup copy.
In the case when you have been using apple technology for some time and you have accumulated a lot of photos, both on Mac and iPhone / iPad, then you need to understand whether you need to have a common base of photos. If yes, then go ahead and buy more space in iCloud with the song, optimize photos on devices and live with it. But if you don't want to use the iCloud photo library, but you turned it on by accident, then ...
How do I turn off iCloud Photo Library?
There is a problem with that. When a large amount of photos ends up on the iPhone and the space on it runs out, iOS may offer to optimize storage, thereby leaving only previews of photos in memory, but not their full versions. If you try to turn off the optimization in the settings and try to load the originals, then 2 problems will appear. Firstly, you need to have a normal Internet to download photos, and secondly, you need to have space on your phone, but it doesn't exist anyway ... If it is possible to temporarily delete unnecessary data from the iPhone and clear space on it for downloading originals - Just Do It !
If you cannot clear space, turn off iCloud Music Library in your phone and agree to delete some of the photos. All the same, these photos will remain in the iCloud cloud or they can be downloaded to your Mac or viewed through the website. In any case, those photos that have not been uploaded to the cloud will remain on the phone, and those that are already in iCloud will be available through the site. So you won't be able to lose your photos.
Immediately, as a small life hack, I can suggest to temporarily remove the Facebook, Instagram and Vkontakte programs from the phone. All of them are just shells and there is no information inside them - everything is stored on the servers! When you are done with all the manipulations with the media library and photos, they can be downloaded again.
ICloud Music Library is great, but not for me ...
What about me? And I decided that iCloud Music Library was not for me, since I am not ready to combine photos on my devices. Even though there is enough space on the iPhone to hold all the photos in your Mac library. I decided for myself this way: on my Macbook Pro are all the photos that I have in general. Some are in the Photos program, some are neatly arranged in folders. On the iPhone 6, a heap contains all the photos from the camera, as well as a couple of albums thrown from the Mac. I try to constantly back up my Macbook Pro to, and to iCloud, and this gives me confidence in the safety of my data.
