Huawei wai phone 5. Huawei Y9 review: it has outgrown the budget. Pros and cons of Huawei Y5 II

The Chinese company Huawei has long been entrenched in the mobile phone market. It constantly ranks among the top five most popular brands for the production of smartphones and tablets in the world, second only to such giants as Samsung, Apple and others.

Huawei devices attract the attention of the consumer not only with an interesting design and good characteristics, but also with their prices. To date, she has in stock gadgets for any price segment, including budget models, which are gaining more and more popularity and becoming relevant.

Just about one of these models and I would like to tell you today - this is the Huawei Y5 2017 smartphone. Reviews, current prices and much more will be in today's review dedicated to this phone. Well, let's get started.

Overview

Before starting a review of the Huawei Y5 2017 smartphone, I would like to briefly tell you what exactly will be considered. First of all, we will get acquainted with the equipment of the device, its appearance, design and ergonomics. The display, specifications, operating system and performance will then be discussed in more detail. The article will conclude with an introduction to multimedia functions, camera, battery life and reviews of the Huawei Y5 2017 smartphone.

Equipment

So, the phone comes in a small rectangular box of bright orange color. On the front, there is only the name of the manufacturer and model, but the back has already listed the main characteristics of the Huawei Y5 2017 smartphone: GB of internal memory, 2 GB of RAM, 5-inch screen, 3000 mAh battery, 4G support, and more. We will get acquainted with the specifications of the device in more detail in a separate paragraph of the article.

Inside the box itself, you can find the following: Huawei Y5 2017 smartphone, manual, warranty card, charger box, micro-USB cable, headphones and a protective film on the phone screen. In general, the package bundle is quite good for a budget device.

Of course, I would like to get some kind of silicone case in addition, but without it everything is just fine.

Appearance

The appearance of the Huawei Y5 2017 smartphone is gorgeous, even despite the plastic case. By the way, plastic is used here of very high quality and pleasant to the touch. Only the frame is made of metal, which emphasizes the stylish appearance. In the 2016 model, there were no metal elements at all.

On the back of the smartphone is the Huawei logo, the camera lens, which has a metal edging and protrudes slightly from the body. Next to the camera is a dual LED flash and a microphone hole that records sound when shooting a video.

The corners and edges of the device are rounded, it is comfortable and pleasant to hold in the hand. I would also like to note the corrugated structure of the back cover of the phone, which looks just fine.

Traditionally, the right side houses the volume keys and the on / off button for the device.

On the left side, the company's "smart" button "Easy key" is located alone. You can control it through the settings menu. For example, you can set that after clicking on the button, a screenshot or something else will be taken.

Looking at the front panel of the device, it becomes a little sad. The large side frames around the 5-inch display are very upsetting. Also, there are no touch control buttons, they are displayed on the screen, taking up some useful part.

On top of the screen, you can see the earpiece opening, light and proximity sensors, a 5MP front camera and an LED flash so that selfies can be taken anywhere and at any time of the day.

At the top of the phone is only a 3.5mm headphone jack. On the bottom, there are a pair of speakers on the sides and a micro-USB connector in the middle.

As for the build quality, usually Huawei smartphones have no problems with this. Even though the Y5 is a budget model, it is built with high quality. All parts fit closely to each other, there are no creaks, punching or crunching.

Screen

The Huawei Y5 2017 smartphone has a 5-inch display. The matrix is \u200b\u200bmade using IPS technology, the resolution is 1280x720, the pixel density is 294 ppi, which is generally standard.

There are small comments on the quality of color rendering. The gamma is clearly slightly biased towards cold shades. The situation can be corrected using the "Color Temperature" item in the settings menu. If we talk about clarity, then it is at its best here. Text, small details in the photo, pictures - everything can be seen very well.

The viewing angles are not bad, however, there is a disease of many IPS matrices - when deflected in one direction, the screen turns yellow, in the other, it turns purple. From the display, we can say so - it clearly lacks a good factory calibration.

In multitouch mode, the display simultaneously recognizes up to 5 touches.

Specifications

Specifications smartphone Huawei Y5 2017 has the following:

  • Processor - 1400 MHz.
  • Graphic video accelerator - Mali-T720 MP2.
  • The amount of RAM is 2 GB.
  • The volume of built-in memory is 16 GB + support for memory cards up to 128 GB.
  • Camera - 8 megapixels, autofocus, dual LED flash.
  • Front camera - 5 megapixels, LED flash.
  • Screen - 5 inches, IPS, 1280x720, 294 ppi.
  • The number of SIM cards is 2.
  • - nano + micro.
  • Battery - 3000 mAh.
  • Additionally - light sensor, proximity sensor, compass, voice dialing.

In general, quite good for a budget model. Particularly pleased with the possibility of expanding the internal memory using a separate slot for microSD.

Communication

If we talk about the quality of communication, the phone keeps the network quite confidently. The volume of the external speaker is good, the interlocutor is heard well, the voice is not distorted. With regard to support for wireless technologies, the Huawei Y5 2017 has 4G and 3G. GSM standards are fully supported: 900/1800/1900. Bluetooth in the device costs version 4.0.

operating system

In the box, the smartphone comes with Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) operating system. The shell uses the proprietary Emotion UI 4.1. The likelihood that this device will receive the version of android 7.0 is very small, it is still a budget option.

As for the interface itself, the outer shell is quite pleasant, it is convenient to use it. Optimization also does not fail. Paging, opening and different transitions are smooth, without twitching. There was also no slowdown.

Performance

The processor of the Huawei Y5 2017 smartphone is not installed with proprietary Kirin, but from MediaTek, version MT6737T. I don’t want to say anything about this "pebble", because it is installed in almost every third device from other manufacturers. The processor operates at a clock speed of 1.4 GHz, which is more than enough for the budget segment.

The video accelerator is also not worth some cool Adreno, but the Mali-T720 MP2. Its performance is quite good and allows you to play most mobile games without much difficulty, including such as Asphalt, NFS, WoT.

In Antutu, the phone scored 40,754 points, which is quite good considering its class. This figure is noticeably superior to the 2017 model from Samsung - Galaxy J3. And if you also compare the prices of both devices, then the advantage here is clearly at the Huawei.

For the graphics test, several games were launched: Riptide 2, Asphalt 7/8, Modern Combat 5, Real Racing 3, Inhustice 2. The result was a pleasant surprise. In some games, the graphics settings were set to the maximum - no fps drawdowns were noticed. However, for a comfortable game in the same Injustice 2, NFS, Asphalt 8, the settings still had to be reduced.

Camera

Huawei Y5 2017 has two cameras - the main one is 8 Mp and the front camera is 5 Mp. The quality of the pictures, as for a state employee, is very good. White balance is set correctly in most cases, but focus and exposure often miss.

As for the front camera, everything is perfect here. Sharpness is good, white balance, exposure - everything is on the level. Photos come out of high quality. For selfies and blogging.

The smartphone can record video in Full HD 1920x1080 30 fps. The sound is recorded in stereo, which is good news. The quality is not perfect, but at a high level.

The camera's settings are rich, you can sort it out for a long time, so we will not consider them.

Autonomy

With the autonomy of the smartphone, everything is fine. With more or less intensive use, the phone calmly survives until the evening. If we restrict ourselves to only calls, SMS, a couple of hours of surfing and online video, then the charge will remain until the next day.

Prices

Huawei smartphones have always been distinguished by their slightly overpriced compared to other manufacturers. This model is no exception, although if you look at the characteristics of the device, its performance and capabilities, the price tag is quite justified.

Today, the Huawei Y5 2017 Gold or White smartphone can be bought for 6700 - this is the lowest price. For comparison, the same Galaxy J3 (2017) starts at 10 thousand.

I bought the phone for my mother as a gift as her first smartphone with a touch screen. This turned out to be the most worthy option that was available in the stores of the city. The display is bright, the colors are very juicy. Even in the sun at maximum brightness, everything is clearly visible. Loudspeakers without unnecessary noise, the camera is ordinary, in daylight outdoors, quite decent pictures are obtained. There is a flash, but there is little sense from it at a distance of more than 1.5 meters. I can't say anything about performance. It is used mainly for social networks and Internet surfing. The 8 GB card is easy to digest. The network catches without interruptions just like the Internet. A bit heavy and not for a small hand, but we are tall people and our fingers are long;) so it fit perfectly in size. The only drawback is that the smartphone responds slowly to touch when flipping through widgets, although photos and videos when flipping through the album open instantly, the text is also displayed immediately when typing. Until we figured out why this is happening, maybe you can fix it with internal settings. When choosing a phone, Samsung, Lenovo, Fly, Alcatel and others fell into the hands. In terms of screen quality and assembly, this is perhaps the most successful phone.

Huawei continues to update its line of low-cost smartphones Y 2018, the main feature of which is the presence of elongated displays with an aspect ratio of 18: 9. Earlier we talked about an advanced, and today a more accessible and simple model is next in line -.

Contents of delivery

Smartphone packaging is as simple as possible. In a white cardboard box, you can find the smartphone itself, a power adapter (5V / 1A), a USB / MicroUSB cable and a key to remove the SIM card and memory card slot.

Design, materials and assembly

The smartphone is presented in three possible colors: black, gold and blue.

I received a sample in a blue color for the test. In this color, the device looks clearly fresher than in the already bored black and gold. Even so, the smartphone does not have any design flair. However, for the budget segment this is quite typical, and therefore forgivable.

The body of the device is completely plastic. The plastic itself is of good quality, but a little easily soiled.

At the front is an elongated display with an 18: 9 aspect ratio. The fact of the presence of a fashionable aspect ratio in a state employee certainly surprised and pleased.

The bezels on the left and right are about the same as most smartphones with standard aspect ratios. The top and bottom are small, but the latter is slightly larger than the top, so the symmetry of the device is out of the question.

Build Huawei Y5 2018 - average. When you apply pressure, you can hear a creak in some places on the back of the smartphone. The glass on the front has no oleophobic coating, which is also not very pleasant.

Layout of elements

Above the screen in front there are an LED flash, proximity and light sensors, a conversational and part-time multimedia speaker, a front camera and an event indicator.

Under the screen - nothing but the Huawei inscription.

The right side houses the plastic power / unlock button and volume rocker.

The side on the left has a slot for two nano SIM cards and a microSD memory card.

But it is worth mentioning that I have the DRA-L21 version for testing, and in some countries, the DRA-L02 version will be sold and, unlike the first, there will be only one SIM card slot.

The bottom edge is equipped with a microphone and a microUSB port.

A 3.5 mm audio jack is placed on the top edge.

On the back in the upper left corner there is a block with the main camera and LED flash. The block protrudes slightly above the body. A little below the manufacturer's logo.

Below - markings and other service information.

As you can see, due to the availability of a smartphone, some things are missing in it, for example, a fingerprint scanner and a separate multimedia speaker (it is combined with a spoken one).

Ergonomics

Huawei has made a very compact and lightweight smartphone. Therefore, using the Y5 2018 is convenient.

The body has rounded corners, the shape is comfortable, you can use the smartphone with one hand without much effort. The controls are located in the right places - they are easy to use.

Display Huawei Y5 2018

Huawei Y5 2018 is equipped with a display diagonal 5.45 inch aspect ratio18: 9. The display matrix is \u200b\u200bIPS, and the resolution is HD + (1440 × 720 pixels).

The resolution for such a diagonal is just right. Individual pixels are difficult to see unless you look closely at small objects on the screen.

The screen is great, especially considering the price tag. The colors are rich, the brightness is sufficient for outdoor use, but not in direct sunlight. The viewing angles are good - colors and contrast remain unchanged with both linear and diagonal deviations.

In the display settings, you can adjust the color temperature with a bias to colder or warmer tones and activate eye protection mode.

Performance

It's time to talk about the weakest point of this smartphone.

Huawei Y5 2018 runs on entry-level processor - MediaTek MT6739. It consists of four Cortex A53 cores with a maximum clock speed of 1.5 GHz. PowerVR GE8100 is used as a graphics accelerator.

In synthetic tests, the results are expectedly low.

The RAM in the device is 2 GB. 2-3 running applications are kept in memory, and the rest will be started again. In addition, there is a delay in switching between applications. Permanent memory - 16 GB. Initially, the user is allocated only 10.84 GB. But do not forget that it is possible to install a microSD memory card, so it can be expanded if necessary.

In daily work, there is a lack of smartphone performance. There are noticeable slowdowns when opening and minimizing applications. There are lags in the shell when downloading or installing app updates via Google Play. Well, some system animations are not drawn smoothly, in jerks.

In general, the performance of a smartphone should be enough for an undemanding user to perform basic tasks. It is possible that something will be tweaked with the firmware update, but at this stage there are nuances in terms of speed and smoothness of work.

Cameras Huawei Y5 2018

The main camera in the smartphone is one - a module with a resolution of 8 megapixels and an aperture of f / 2.2.

Huawei Y5 2018 copes mediocrely with daytime shooting, but still the pictures are of acceptable quality for a budget employee. Of course, there are misfires when it comes to autofocusing, so sometimes you get blurry pictures. In low light, of course, the smartphone camera shoots very poorly.

Video Huawei Y5 2018 shoots in the maximum FullHD resolution. Its quality, of course, is low. There are no additional video shooting modes in the camera application, there is no stabilization.

The front camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels ( f / 2.2). She copes with her task as expected, the quality of the resulting photos is not bad.

The camera application has a very small number of shooting modes, there are few filters.

Autonomy Huawei Y5 2018

The capacity of the battery installed in the smartphone is 3020 mAh. That's not much, but a 5.45 ″ HD + smartphone has enough power for a day's work - quite typical.

When using 4G and Wi-Fi, the screen time was a little over 5 hours. With a constant Wi-Fi connection, the same figure was almost 6 hours.

Simply put, an active user of Huawei Y5 2018 will have enough for a full day of light, and with a more gentle mode and setting the operation of background applications, the battery should last for a day and a half.

Sound and communication

The earpiece speaker in Huawei Y5 2018, let me remind you, is combined with a multimedia speaker. The speaker, if we talk about its performance as the main one, is average both in terms of volume and quality - the sound is deaf. But for conversations - quite enough. In the sound settings, you can activate the speaker volume gain.

The sound in the headphones is average. In the settings there is no equalizer and other "enhancements".

In terms of communications, everything is standard. The mobile network is instantly detected. The Wi-Fi 802.11 (b / g / n) and Bluetooth 4.2 modules function perfectly. The only problem was with navigation - the GPS module determines the location slowly and with low accuracy.

Firmware and software

The smartphone received the current version of the operating system - Android 8.1 and the EMUI 8.0 shell.

In general, from the point of view of functionality, everything is stripped down when compared with the same. There are fewer gestures available, there is no one-handed mode, although it is not really needed here.

But the customization remains the same - themes, desktop layout, navigation bar are configured. Remained split screen, shortcuts and round markers on application icons with notifications.

At this stage, the firmware does not contain a very important function, which was in other more expensive smartphones of the manufacturer. I mean the face unlock feature. If you believe the description of Huawei Y5 2018 on, then it will be available after the OTA update.

And if it works as well as it does in, it will be cool. During the operation of the smartphone, it was very lacking - there is no fingerprint scanner here, and constantly entering a password to unlock a smartphone or banking applications is already unusual and inconvenient.

conclusions

a high-quality budget smartphone with its own advantages that the nearest competitors do not have. The list of its advantages includes a good display with an aspect ratio of 18: 9, thoughtful ergonomics, as well as up-to-date and stable software.

The weak points of the smartphone are performance and a mediocre main camera. But again, this is a state employee, and it is worth evaluating it in the context of positioning.

The device is made of plastic, very easily soiled plastic. We haven't seen this for a long time. Usually even Chinese state employees are already made of metal, but here the company has stood out. True, there are problems with the assembly, the device creaks a little. It came out in three colors - black, blue and gold. It looks stylish, we have no complaints about the appearance, especially about the blue model. The device is small, it is convenient to operate with one hand in principle, and it is also not slippery, which is also an undoubted plus of ergonomics. You will not find the usual parts here - a fingerprint scanner, a notification sensor, NFC - tags, a speaker ... STOP! WHAT? DYNAMICS? Indeed, the smartphone has no speaker, the speaker is responsible for it. An interesting and original solution, but with this it is very convenient to listen to voice messages. So the solution is not the worst, in some ways even convenient, plus the sound is directed at you. In the kit, the manufacturer pleased us with a film on the screen, but did not put the headphones on. And there is also no combined slot - 2 nanoSim + microSD, only praise in this case, since the built-in memory is small, but more on that later. Overall the design is excellent and the build is not quite. This is the bottom line.

Width

Height

Thickness

Weight

Shell

The device runs on Android 8.1, regularly receives updates, but all you need to know is that the device is simply unrealistically thoughtful, it takes a very long time to open applications, the interface does not work smoothly. Of the interesting settings, we can note the possibility of swapping the control buttons, unlocking the screen with a double tap, the smartlock function, which allows you to unlock the smartphone in “familiar” places. There are no functional features as such. There is, of course, face unlocking, but it comes with an update and does not work like on flagships. The icons are not even very pretty, but this is a pure nitpick on our part.

Specifications

  • CPU

    MediaTek MT6739 4 x 1.5 GHz

  • Video processor

For the operation of the interface and the smartphone as a whole, the lower-level processor is responsible - the 4-core Mediatek MT6739. And for the graphics PowerVR GE8100. A very economical solution, a weaker processor is probably hard to find today. How this affects performance will be discussed further.

Memory

The device has 16 GB of its own memory. Be prepared that half will go under the system. RAM - 2 GB. This is enough to keep 2-3 applications in memory, if more, they will be reopened. Lack of memory can be closed by inserting a microSD up to 128GB. To do this, you will not need to donate one of the Sim cards.

Communication

Huawei's presentations say that the smartphone is made for communication. Indeed, the device has absolutely no problems with network reception due to the plastic case. Moreover, the interlocutor is perfectly audible. You will also be heard well thanks to noise cancellation. And many more will appreciate the presence of fm radio.

The Huawei Y5 II smartphone was announced in mid-April 2016. This device is a mid-range model in the youngest line of the Chinese manufacturer. The gadget has a nice design for its class, and also has everything you need to fully familiarize yourself with the Android operating system.

Appearance and ergonomics

It is interesting that the U5 II case, although made of plastic, is very much like metal. There is an aluminum frame around the perimeter, which makes the device even more stylish. The speakers are located on the bottom edge, reminiscent of the iPhone. At the bottom of the screen are virtual navigation buttons. On the back side, in addition to the enlarged camera eye and flash, there is a corporate logo. Rounded body edges maximize ergonomics. And it is really pleasant to hold the device in hand, even for a long time. Dimensions Y5 II: height - 144 m, width - 72 mm, thickness - 8.9 mm, weight - 135 g. The smartphone is very compact, it is convenient to carry it in your pocket. Body colors: black, gold, white, blue and pink.

Display

Huawei U5 II is equipped with a 5-inch display with a very good resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels (HD) for its level. Thanks to the IPS matrix, the screen has decent viewing angles. The display is covered with ordinary glass, on which fingerprints actively remain. There is no oleophobic coating here. At the same time, the picture is surprisingly pleasant and bright.

Iron and performance

The case with the processor in the Huawei Y5 II is as follows. The 3G version got the somewhat outdated MediaTek MT6582 chip. But the modification with support for 4G networks has a 64-bit MediaTek MT6735 processor with a maximum frequency of 1300 MHz and four cores. In terms of performance, the devices are almost identical. The only serious difference is that in the 4G version there is a more productive 3D accelerator Mali-T720, which favorably affects the rendering of effects in many games. In the AnTuTu test, both models score 22,000-23,000 points. The Y5 II operates on the basis of Android 5.1 OS with the preinstalled EMUI 3.1 Lite shell. The amount of memory here is minimal - 1 GB of RAM and only 8 GB of storage memory. The user can independently expand the storage up to 64 GB using microSD cards.

Communication and sound

The multimedia speaker in the Huawei Y5 II is relatively loud, but without even a hint of surround sound. The situation with the sound in the headphones is more interesting, but here the quality is far from perfect. And it will be possible to talk without problems, since the voices of the user and the interlocutor are heard well. As noted, there is a version with support for 4G and slower networks. The U5 II model with 3G cannot work with high-speed LTE networks. And from the wireless interfaces there is Bluetooth 4.0, as well as Wi-Fi (2400 MHz).

Camera

Huawei Y5 II has at its disposal an 8-megapixel camera with an advanced 2.0 aperture and dual flash. But in fact, the quality of the picture leaves much to be desired. Almost all photographs come out strongly overexposed. But the noises appear already at the slightest absence of a bright sun. With a properly working autofocus, you can take good pictures of objects near the camera. But only macro photography is able to please the user. It is noteworthy that the front 2-megapixel camera is equipped with a separate flash. Therefore, the simplest selfies can be taken even at night.

conclusions

Huawei's budget Y5 II smartphone honestly fulfills its $ 120 price tag. There are no obvious features in it, but the whole device turned out to be quite balanced. If you want to become the owner of an ordinary smartphone with a basic set of functions, then Huawei Y5 II will be an excellent option.

Pros:

  • Nice design.
  • Bright display.
  • Nice value.
  • Modern OS.

Minuses:

  • The main camera is frankly weak.
  • Bad external speaker.
