We continue the series of lessons about wifi internet. In the first article of the series, we figured out how to set up wifi using a router. Today we will learn how to distribute the Internet via wifi, that is, we will try to do without this connecting link and connect two computers running on the Windows XP and Windows 7 operating system.

How to distribute the Internet via wifi?

First, let's look at the diagram. If earlier a router was used to access the Internet, now one of the computers will take over its function. That is, when wifi Internet is working, one computer must be constantly turned on. The wifi distribution scheme will look like this:

1. Permanently switched on PC with wifi module, connected by cable to the Internet and distributing a signal.

The key phrase is "always on", because to use the Internet as a second computer, it is necessary that the first one is constantly on - which, in fact, our router did before.

2. Second PC or laptop with wifi ...

At the request of visitors, I am posting this article ...
Sharing the Internet via Wi Fi (Wi-Fi) is actually very simple. Almost exactly the same as distributing the Internet using Wi Fi on a laptop. It can be distributed in several ways. Now we will consider them in more detail.

1 way to distribute Wi-Fi.

The simplest and most effective is to buy a router or router that supports Wi Fi access points. When buying, pay attention to this and the possibilities (in particular, the speed). In the instructions for use, everything is detailed. I will not write about the setting, because There are a great many brands and models now, and entire sites are usually made for customization. It is better to turn to the help of your Internet provider (if you cannot understand the instructions). They have such a service.
In short, I'll just write that you buy a router, then connect an Internet cable to it, then connect it with a cable to the computer, well, then you set everything up on the computer or directly in the router (it depends ...

You will need

A desktop or laptop computer connected to the Internet; - built-in or external wi-fi adapter; - operating system Windows 7 or 8.

Instructions

First way. Go to the command line with administrator rights and enter the command netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode = allow ssid = "MS Virtual WiFi" key = "Pass for virtual wifi" keyUsage = persistent into it (you do not need to put quotes). Then go to Device Manager and check for a new adapter called the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter or Microsoft Virtual WiFi miniport adapter.

Activate the new adapter. To do this, go to the "Control Panel", from it - to the "Network Control Center". Find in it the newly created connection named Wireless Network Connection 2. Go to the command line again with administrator rights, type the command netsh wlan start hostednetwork (without quotes). After setting up the home network, the PC will be able to distribute ...

The more different mobile devices spread, the more we have different smartphones and tablets - the more often the question arises as to how all this can be connected via WiFi to your computer or a friend's laptop. The problem is instantly solved if there is a home router - all devices are connected to it and are perfectly accessible to each other and can use the Internet. But what if there is no router, but you really need to connect a tablet or smartphone? Everything is solved very simply - you just need to force the laptop to distribute WiFi in the same way as a router does. Fortunately, the developers of Windows 7 and Windows 8 foresaw such a development of events and in advance laid such functionality in their operating system.

So, we have 2 possible options: using built-in Windows tools or third-party programs to create a virtual router on a computer.

We share WiFi using built-in Windows tools.

May come in handy ... wi-fi to others without a router.

I can’t help myself! I read an explanatory article and I want to share with you, friends.

The article was noticed on the blog of friends and written by her woman! My friend Maya.

But it seems to me that someone helped. Surely a husband!

Well, the point is not in this, but in the formulation of the question, with which Maya coped.

I thought about where to start with security or how to distribute wi-fi.

I think we'll start with a very interesting question.

Is it possible or not to distribute wi-fi (Internet) from your computer or laptop at home without a router?

I will please you ... you can!

You just need to install the necessary program, and you will be able to distribute the Internet, for example, to a smartphone or a neighbor, of course, if you are very kind and you have impressive Internet speeds.

Otherwise, suffer yourself, but we'll talk about it at the end of the article.

On the Internet, you can find all sorts of programs designed for distribution ...

Today we'll talk about how to distribute the Internet via Wi-Fi from a laptop or from a computer that has an appropriate wireless adapter. What is it for? For example, you purchased a tablet or phone and would like to access the Internet from it at home without purchasing a router. In this case, you can distribute Wi-Fi from a laptop that is connected to the network both wired and wirelessly. Let's take a look at how to do this. In this case, we will consider three ways at once how to make a laptop a router. Ways of distributing Wi-Fi from a laptop are considered for Windows 7, Windows 8, they are also suitable for Windows 10. If you prefer non-standard, or do not like to install additional programs, you can go directly to the method in which the implementation of distribution via Wi-Fi will be organized using the Windows command line.

Imagine a situation: you came to visit, and you need fast Internet on a smartphone or tablet, and the owners only have a laptop connected to the Internet with a cable, and there is no router. It doesn't matter - you can organize wireless Internet distribution from this laptop in a couple of minutes.

To do this, you need: broadband wired Internet access, a computer or laptop with a Wi-Fi module, and an operating system Windows 7 or Windows 8. Let's start setting up.

Open the "Start" menu, write "cmd" (without quotes) in the search bar, right-click on the found program and select "Run as administrator".

In the command line that opens, write "netsh wlan show drivers" (without quotes) and press Enter. This command checks if the Wi-Fi module in the computer is virtual Wi-Fi compatible.

Then write “netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode = allow ssid = name key = password” and press Enter. Here "name" is the name of the created access point, it can be anything, for example ...

The process of creating a WiFi network without a router is as follows:

1. Start - Control Panel - Network and Internet - Network and Sharing Center - Set up a new connection or network.

3. Enter a name and security key for your network. The more complex it all becomes, the more secure your network will be.

5. Now, to connect to the network, users will have to enter the network name and password from it. As long as the computer that distributes this network is working, while the Internet will work on the device that is connected to it.

Important! The process of creating such a network is possible only on Windows 7 and only on laptops that have WiFi receivers ...

As you know, not only a device specially created for this can serve as a router, but also the computer itself. This article will discuss how to make wifi without a router by setting up a personal computer equipped with a Wi-Fi adapter, or just a laptop with built-in Wi-Fi.

The first setting method is more preferable

Installing the software

Let's look at the Connectify program first. The installation will take place on a computer running the Windows 7 operating system.

The first step is to download the utility Connectify itself, with which we will make a homemade router. You can download it from the official website http://www.connectify.me/

After installing the program, the Connectify icon should appear in the system tray in the lower right corner. Until the program is configured, the icon will be with a crossed out circle, which means that the access point has not yet been configured.

The icon with a circle in the tray means that ...

Since I will show my personal experience, we will figure out how to set up wifi using the example of two routers I had and several options for providers.

How to connect a wifi router?

In order to organize a wifi network at home, at different times I used three special devices - routers: Zyxel Keenetic, TrendNet TEW-632BRP and ASUS WL-520GC. Perhaps he didn’t say very clearly - it’s the same thing, only from different companies, that is, you don’t have to buy both at once if you want to repeat the same thing.

I’ll say right away that I don’t want to use Trendnet even to an enemy, so never take this brand - constant headache, being knocked out of the network, freezing and rebooting you are guaranteed! But since I used it, why not tell me how it works ... And one more note - you need to buy a wifi router, since there are a lot of devices similar in appearance and functionality for various purposes. For example, unknowingly, it is easy to confuse with a wired router that routes the Internet signal to devices, but using cables.

The point of connecting a router is that it is now, and not your PC, that will connect to the Internet via a cable. For which we will register all the necessary parameters in the settings. And all other devices will already receive Internet via wifi from the router. For clarity, look at the diagram:

How to connect the Internet via wifi at home: DHCP setting

The first wi fi setup that we will analyze is the transformation of our newly purchased and installed router into some kind of server.

Procedure:

1. First of all, you need to connect the router to your computer. To do this, plug the Internet cable into the WAN slot on the device. And the other cable, with two plugs, which was most likely supplied with the device, is connected with one end to the network card of the computer (where there used to be an Internet cable), and the other into any of the LAN1, LAN2, LAN3 or LAN4 slots of the router.

I also want to note that it is better to connect the router to the network through an uninterruptible power supply, since I had an unpleasant experience when a good device from Netgear snapped due to a power surge in the network and began to broadcast wifi not 100, but 2 meters. Of course, I had to buy a new one.

3. After that, go to the address http://192.168.1.1 - usually the settings take place exactly here, if they did not have to be done at the stage of installing the software. But you will look in the instructions for the device, which way to enter the control panel of the router, since the default IPs on different routers may differ.

Also another popular place for short instructions is a sticker on the bottom of the router - look there. If there are no instructions in the instructions, or it is lost, then go to the menu (*): for Windows XP " Start> Control Panel> Switch to Classic View> Network Connections". In Windows 7: " Start> Control Panel> Network and Internet> Network and Sharing Center> Manage network connections> Changing adapter settings... Next, double-click on the shortcut “ LAN connection"And in the window that appears, press the button" Intelligence". In the window that opens, we are looking for IPv4 The main gateway - this is the router.

Now, finally, go to the address indicated there through the browser (http: // IP ADDRESS OF YOUR ROUTER) and find the DHCP Server item in the menu (in Trendnet it is combined with WAN) and set the range of values for possible IP addresses of devices connecting to your LAN. I had it like this: Start IP - 192.168.10.101, End IP 192.168.10.200. And of course, opposite the DHCP Server item there should be an Enabled parameter. Domain Name or Host Name is the name of the future home wifi network. I will make a reservation right away that the screenshots below were taken from my devices that have already been working or have been working for several years and their interface is in English, so it would be difficult to figure out what is what for a domestic novice without help - I hope these pictures will help you. Most of the modern firmware and software are already in Russified form, so it will be even easier to figure it out.

This is how it looked in TrendNet (highlighted in red):

And like this in ASUS:

How to make wifi at home: LAN setup

Now we will set the parameters for our wifi network at home - IP and router mask. For Trendnet this is the same item (see Figure 1, highlighted in green), for Asus - the WAN & LAN section - at the very bottom of the settings page. In the first case, I set the IP 192.168.10.1, in the second - 192.168.1.1. default mask 255.255.255.0

How to enable WiFi: WAN setup

These were all flowers, now the most interesting thing is setting up the external connection of the router to the Internet.

There are several types of connections, depending on the provider's settings. This happens in the WAN menu.

In Online, which I used at one time, IP was issued automatically, that is, there was no need to set up anything on purpose - you just plug in the cord, set up the LAN and that's it, wifi went. Accordingly, for this type, in the "WAN Connection Type" field, set Automatic IP.

In Starnet and others like it, another type is called PPPoE. Here you are given a login and password, and in order to connect to the network, you need to enter them each time. In order to configure, select the PPPoE type and make the settings: User Name, Server Name (Service Name), Password, Primary DNS, Secondary DNS. All values for these parameters are given by the provider when signing the contract - look at it, everything should be there - perhaps you don't need to fill in some parameters. It looked like this to me:

In TrendNet (WAN menu item)

In Asus (item WAN & LAN)

Another method that I have tried is static IP. Querti gave him away. Everything is simple here - put in the item "Get IP automatically?", If there is one, the value "No", then enter the values of IP, Mask and Gateway issued by the provider. Do not forget to also press the "Clone MAC Address" button - it will copy the so-called MAC address of your PC, applying it to the router.

And the last one for today is L2TP; Beeline uses it in its connections. Also, you just need to put down the data provided in the contract in the appropriate fields.

There are several more connection options, but I haven't come across them, so I won't talk about them.

After you have written down the settings data that you had on your computer and entered them in the control panel of the router, you need to set the IP, gateway and DNS to automatic in the settings for connecting to a new wireless network on your computer (you can find the window for entering this data same as above and marked with an asterisk (*)).

Wifi network - encrypt connection

If you did everything correctly and saved all the settings, then all devices that support wifi should now see a new network with the name you specified. However, this question How to connect wifi at home is not yet closed. The home wifi network turned out to be open, that is, anyone can use your Internet access for free. To break everyone off and make the wifi network at home available only to its owner, you need to protect the connection to the router. There are several ways, I used two WPE (or Shared Key) and WPA in my practice. The latter is more reliable, so I will consider it. We go to the security settings. In Trendnet this is the Security menu item, in Asus it is Wireless> Interface.

Choose WPE or WPA Personal (PSK, TKIP) in the menu, set the password for connection - from 7 to 64 characters. And we save. I show how it was with me:

Well, now, to enter the Internet through your router, you need to enter a password. As you can see, connecting wifi through a router and making a wifi network at home is quite easy. I hope you can do it too.

Good day, blog visitors.

Already today, many computer users cannot imagine their life without the Internet. Moreover, it is now available not only on computers, but also on smartphones, tablets, TVs. Wireless technologies are becoming more and more popular, and mainly it concerns getting the opportunity to get into the "world wide web" anywhere in the room. Special devices perfectly cope with this task. But what if such equipment is not provided? Later in the article I will tell you how the Windows 7 wifi access point is organized on a laptop in various ways.

general information

Wi-Fi technology enables all users to combine multiple computers and additional peripherals into homegroups. This allows you to increase the speed of information transfer, speed up communication, and improve the workflow.

Basically, such a system is organized by means of special equipment - a router. But this device is not always at hand. But what if you urgently need to communicate with a new component or open access to the Internet? Fortunately, all modern laptops have built-in Wi-Fi. It is this element that can be configured as a wireless communication module.

There are many programs for this. In addition, the operating system itself provides some tools to get things done.

Built-in capabilities

It should be said right away that this method does not require users to install any additional software.

This method will help you get a wireless access point without a router - it will be configured on a laptop. In this case, the device both distributes and receives a signal.

And the first thing to check for this is the drivers for the module we need. They must be the latest version. If this is not the case, the function we need may not be supported at the software level.

The distribution of the Internet can be organized through the command line or using the "comp-comp" connection. Either way, the result will be the same.

The main thing is to do everything step by step so as not to miss something.

Command line

To achieve the desired result, you need to perform a number of actions:

In some cases, users may need to share information. To do this, do the following:

If you suddenly received a limited connection, and you need to configure the Internet for all participants, you need to do a few steps:

Now the access point is designed not only for computers or laptops, but also for phones and tablets.

Comp-comp connection

The procedure itself is simple. To do this, do the following:

If after that the device does not distribute the Internet, perhaps restarting the equipment will help. If not, check the settings.

Programs

This method can be called one of the simplest. For this, there are many applications that are downloaded for free. In general, work in such programs is reduced to four main actions:

 1. Name entry.
 2. Choice of security.
 3. Key entry.
 4. The choice of connection for access to the "world network".

It is worth noting that if you are planning to do this with a stationary computer, it must have the appropriate components. So, for example, a regular network card will not work. It will turn out to be done through a USB modem connected to an external port.

Hope you can easily achieve your goal. Subscribe and you will always know what to do with your computer in any situation.

Often there is a situation when the Internet is connected to one computer or laptop, and it becomes necessary to distribute this Internet to other devices. Smartphone, tablet, or other computer. If you went to this page, then most likely you know that you can distribute Wi-Fi from a computer and without a router. Better, of course, to buy an inexpensive router, connect the Internet to it, and it will already distribute it to all devices. But this is not always possible. It is in such cases that you can use a laptop or a computer with a Wi-Fi adapter as a router.

There are several ways to launch a virtual Wi-Fi network and force your computer to distribute the Internet. I would single out three ways: by commands via the command line, via a mobile hotspot, and using third-party programs. We will now take a closer look at each method. You can choose a more suitable option for yourself and proceed to the setup according to the instructions that you will find in this article, or by the links that I will leave in the process of writing.

How to distribute the Internet via Wi-Fi from a computer:

 • Through the command line. This is the most popular method and it works in Windows 7, Windows 8 (8.1) and Windows 10. You need to start a command prompt, run a few commands, and open the Internet sharing. After that, the computer will start broadcasting a wireless network to which you can connect your devices and use the Internet. I have already prepared two detailed instructions:, and. The instructions are almost the same, just written for different operating systems.
 • Using the Mobile Hotspot function. This is a standard feature that appeared in Windows 10. It's much simpler there. It is enough to set the name of the Wi-Fi network, password, select a connection for public access, and start the access point. Setting instructions:. If you have a "dozen" installed, then I advise you to try this method first. It has its own nuances, which I wrote about in the article at the link above.
 • Using third-party programs. There are many free and paid programs with which you can run a virtual Wi-Fi network on your computer. In fact, these programs also launch the distribution via the command line, just a little more convenient. No need to copy commands, etc., just press a button. But these programs do not always work stably and correctly. I also wrote about them in a separate article:.

Those instructions, the links to which I gave above, are quite enough to set everything up. But since I decided to make one large and general article on this topic, I will write a detailed guide for each method. Of course with pictures.

Note! If you want to distribute Wi-Fi without a router using a stationary computer (PC), then you must have a Wi-Fi adapter. Internal, or external, which is connected via USB. I wrote about such adapters. In laptops, this adapter is built-in.

It doesn't matter if you have a PC or a laptop - Wi-Fi should work. The driver for the wireless adapter must be installed, and the list of connections must contain the adapter "Wireless network" or "Wireless network connection". To test the ability to run Wi-Fi distribution, run Command Prompt as administrator and run the command netsh wlan show drivers... Next to the line "Support for hosted network" should be "yes".

Let's move on to setting up.

How to share Wi-Fi via command line?

Let me remind you that this method works for Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 7.

You need to run the command line as administrator. In Windows 7, open "Start", then "All Programs" - "Accessories". Right click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as Administrator". In Windows 10 and 8, you can simply right-click on the Start menu and select "Command Prompt (Admin)".

We copy and execute (with the Enter key) the following command:

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode = allow ssid = "my_wi-fi_network" key = "12345678" keyUsage = persistent

This command sets the name ssid = "my_wi-fi_network" and password key = "12345678" for a Wi-Fi network that will be distributed by a PC or laptop. You can change the name and password if you want.

To start the access point itself, you need to run the following command:

This is the result after executing the first and second commands:

Devices can already be connected to a running Wi-Fi network, but only the Internet will not work yet. Need share the internet.

To do this, go to "Network Connections" (Network and Sharing Center - Change adapter settings)... Right click on the connection through which you are connected to the Internet and select "Properties".

Next, on the "Access" tab, you need to check the box next to "Allow other network users to use this computer's Internet connection" and select a new connection from the list. The connection name will contain a number (not necessarily the same as mine in the screenshot), and below is the name of the network, which is indicated in the first command.

netsh wlan stop hostednetwork

And run again with the command:

netsh wlan start hostednetwork

After these steps, you can connect to a Wi-Fi network named "my_wi-fi_network" (if you haven't changed it)and use the internet. As you can see, without a Wi-Fi router.

If you encounter a problem when devices cannot connect to an access point, or the Internet is connected but does not work, then first of all turn off the antivirus and firewall. Also see the articles, links to which I will give below.

Perhaps useful:

 • - when there is no access tab, drop-down list, etc.
 • - solutions to various problems. Including errors "The hosted network could not be started. The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation."

It should be noted that a computer is not always willing to turn into a router. Sometimes you need to dance with a tambourine 🙂

Configuring Mobile Hotspot (Windows 10 only)

In this case, everything is much simpler. Open "Options" (gear icon button in the start menu) and go to the "Network and Internet" section.

The Mobile Hotspot tab contains all the settings for this function. The network name and network password will be immediately written there. If you want to change them, then click on the "Change" button. Set new ones and save.

Disable your antivirus and firewall if you experience any problems.

How to make a WiFi network at home?
Everyone knows about the concept of wifi - well, the vast majority for sure! And if you have a smartphone or tablet, then the majority also used it somewhere in a McDuck or a cafe! However, much less people know how to organize a wireless network and combine different devices into it. I just recently had to face this problem, which I successfully solved and now I hasten to share my experience with you!

Since I will show my personal experience, we will deal with the settings using the example of two routers I had and several options for providers.
