Total Commander description and settings. What is Total Commander and what is it for

Hello! Today I decided to write an article about total commander, I have not seen analogues on the Internet, I will be relevant! \u003d D
So, what is a total commander is an analogue of Windows Explorer, only 100 times more convenient. The only drawback of the total commander is the interface. It looks like it's 99 now \u003d D
What is more convenient than total? First, it is very fast. Secondly, you work in two windows, which is very convenient (copy cut, etc.). Thirdly, such a search is built into the total commander so that you can search for text in files on your computer. That is, you can find the desired document by a piece of text in it. Moreover, total is able to rename a bunch of files quickly and make unique names (as you enter). Also, you can see in an instant, all files from all folders are also a handy thing. I thought I would record a video lesson, but, mom is at home, I can't now, I'll have to do it later. Oh, okay. You do not write comments, I am offended! \u003d D
So, let's get to the point. First download this super program - total commander file manager
Download Total Commander first
Find out your bit depth in order to know what to download

Now after installing it on your computer, we begin to understand \u003d)
Take a look at the interface first. If you want to change it, make more icons, then go to Configuration - Settings - Icons and set it to your liking

As we can see, the total commander has a main panel on top which contains the most necessary options (search, etc.), as well as the settings of the program itself

Let's look at the options first. The chapter files has 3 useful functions. The first is if you click on any folder and press CTRL + L, then you will immediately be knocked out how much the folder weighs, how many nested folders it contains and the space that it takes. Also the function CTRL + M (group rename) With this thing you can change the name of many files. And of course, calculating the md5 sum is also sometimes useful!

So, the first thing I did at home was to assign hotkeys to such procedures. Rename a lot of files Shift + F2 (F2 - just rename in Windows, if you didn't know, so this combination is always in my head), Quick search (to search like in Windows Explorer you type keys and immediately find the file by name), search for files in a new tab Ctrl + F (like in Chrome), copy the full path to the file ctrl + shift + c to the clipboard
Perhaps I'll have to tell you how I did it \u003d)

Total commander rename

As you know in Windows, rename F2. We will also do it for the total commander. Go to Configuration - Settings - Miscellaneous. We set the desired key, I set f2. Find the command cm_RenameOnly and click on the green checkmark

Super! Let's make a call to group rename with the key combination shift + f2.
Go to Configuration - Settings - Miscellaneous. We set the desired key, I set shift + f2. Find the command cm_MultiRenameFiles and click on the green checkmark

You can learn how to use renaming with the help of a video that I recorded for you a long time ago.

Super! Let's go further!
In the same way, you can set the keyboard shortcuts to Search for files by a separate process (cm_SearchStandalone); Copy names with paths to the clipboard (cm_CopyFullNamesToClip);

Total commander add program to quick launch bar

Adding a program to the total launcher is quite simple. It is necessary either to pull the exe file to the panel itself or to hammer the program with the paths manually. Let me consider two cases separately.

The first option is to go to% programFiles% and pull the exe to the panel

The second option is to add manually by specifying the path and icon.
Click. Etc. cl. mouse - Edit - Add and add a program by specifying the full path in brackets

Quick tabs and files in Total Commander

Remember the important keyboard shortcut Ctrl + D. In Google Chrome, bookmarks. And at Total Commander also.
You went to the folder you want to save and have quick access. No problem. Open the folder in Total Commander and press Ctrl + D or click on the asterisk.

By clicking on the star again, you can view a list of your quick directories, to which you have quick access! Also, you can add a separator or file for quick access. The full path must be specified for the file. Example: "C: UsersAlexanderDropboxkleo.com.uaWhat needs to be redone on the Cleo.mmap site"

Total commander ftp setup

Let's continue. If you have a site, ftp hosting (file), then you can also connect via FTP using the total commander. All you need to do is open the total commander, click Network - Connect to FTP server and enter your connection details. For example, my settings are

When creating, I got knocked out, remove the write protection. So you need to run total using administrator

Everything! You can use Ftp with Total commander and add other FTPs in the same way.
You can add keyboard shortcuts for this purpose. Go to Configuration - Settings - Miscellaneous. I, for example, use the alt + N keys to invoke FTP. You can do as I advised from above. Command cm_FtpConnect.

Total commander show hidden files

You can show hidden files in Total Commander using the command cm_SwitchHid... Find the item itself in Configuration - Settings - Panel content... There we put a tick - show hidden files.

If you want to add a quick call (I added the Ctrl + H key to myself, I got used to it from previous versions of Total) I will repeat - cm_SwitchHid

I'll tell you more in the video later! In the meantime, I have everything. I wanted to write a few words about plug-ins, but see, that's another story \u003d) Have a good day everyone, Alexander Chek was with you as always, good to everyone!

Hello everyone. Today I will tell you about what kind of program Total Commander is, so that you can easily understand whether you need it or not. In general, who does not know this program, everyone probably knows it. But here is a small correction, this program was known to everyone EARLIER, but now not everyone knows. It's just that it was very popular before, now not so many people use it ..

Well, Total Commander is a kind of file manager that can do everything with files, copy them there, create folders and so on. In general, this program has no equal in this matter. That's interesting, I just didn't know, it turns out that the program was called Windows Commander before. But in 2002, Microsoft said, well, they renamed the program quickly! And since then the program is called Total Commander. I think that Microsoft didn’t want users to think that it was she who made the program, but the name Windows Commander hints at this .. In general, this is a trifle, just interesting

The program works very quickly and it is even difficult for me to imagine a computer on which it would slow down. As for me, the program is just excellent, although, I admit that I almost never used it. I don't know why, well, I didn't have such a need.

If you want to install it for yourself, then keep in mind that there is a version for both 32-bit Windows and 64-bit. But if suddenly you download a 32-bit version of the program on a 64-bit Windows, then nothing terrible will happen in principle, the program will work, but if on the contrary, then you will not even be able to install the program

Total Commander runs under the TOTALCMD64.EXE process, here it is in the manager:

The program is installed to the root of the system disk, here in this folder:

After the launch of Total Commander, you will see a window where it will be written, well, what they say you can use the program for free for a month. And then you need to either buy it, or delete it. These are the strict deeds guys. This is the window:

And at the bottom of the window there is still such a thing, well, like press some number, you know what this is all about? This is such a cartoon for programs that give a free trial period. You know, they are creating something like such an artificial complex, because if you bought Total Commander, then nothing like that would have happened. This kind of complication should prompt you to buy.

After I pressed the number, the Settings window itself appeared:

Well, I looked at these settings and I don't think it's worth changing anything there. Unless you know, here on the Content tab of the panels, here you can put a checkmark to display hidden files, system files:

But again, these checkboxes should be checked if you are a more or less advanced user, hidden files are hidden for a reason.

Here is the main window of the Total Commander:

This is the window, this is the whole principle of the program, the whole essence of the Commander! On one side you have one disk, on the other side you have another disk. And now you can copy and move files back and forth. To select or change a drive, you need to click here and select a drive letter:

Well, then you can already do something in the program. Now, if you call the Network menu, then look, the Commander still supports working with a network drive, with FTP, and even some kind of connection can be established via the LPT / USB port:

To be honest, I have not tested all these features as they work. But due to the fact that the program is not young and has long been known, I think that everything works here clearly and without jokes

Although, you know, for the sake of interest, I'll still try to go to the free and open FTP server of the Opera, by the way, here is its address:

In the Network menu, I selected the New FTP connection item, then I inserted the Opera server in the window and clicked OK:

Then a window popped up for me to enter some postal address. To be honest, I don’t know why this is necessary, but I entered a fake one, I just wrote [email protected], and then the following Firewall window appeared:

It's just Windows Firewall asking us if Total Commander can go online. After all, to go to the FTP server, it goes without saying that you need to go to the Internet. In general, just click Allow access and do not worry

That's it, after that in the first half of the program there will be the selected disk, well, which was selected earlier, but in the second half, the contents of the FTP server will appear:

And that's it, now you can drag something from the FTP server to the disk. You can upload something to the FTP server, but I'm not sure if the server from Opera supports it. And in general, you can calmly

For example, I dragged the opera-developer folder (don't pay attention to these brackets, it's like this design) from the FTP server to the C drive (that is, to the drive on the left). This window popped up, then just click OK:

Well, look, the files started downloading from the FTP server to the disk:

Well, that is, everything works clearly, as we have seen.

Then, to delete the folder, I clicked on it once and then pressed the Del button (or you can still press F8), after which this window popped up:

Then some other confirmation popped up, after which the folder quickly disappeared.

In general, the Commander has a lot of functions, I don't even know all of them, but I don't think that it will be difficult for you to understand them.

Well, what do you think, do you need this Total Commander program or not? It seems to me that although the program is useful, it is unlikely that an ordinary user will use it. Some advanced can and will use it, but an ordinary user hardly needs all the functions that are in the Commander. And even in such a format as the Total Commander program, you still need to take a couple of minutes to understand it

Total Commander is a seemingly simple file manager with so many useful functions and capabilities that both beginners and advanced users will surely find something they need. Let's dwell on some of the most popular and simple ones.

First of all, Total Commander is good because it is very easy to work with files and folders with its help. After launching the program, you will see a window that is divided into two parts. In each part, you can select the desired file.

To do this, click on the name of the required disk in the panel at the top of the window. This will open a list of all folders and files that are on the disk.

You just have to open the folder with the required file or click on the file name if it is located in the root of the disk. (fig. 1)

Total Commander allows you to perform basic actions with files with just one click: copy, move, rename, delete. For example, you need to copy a file from one folder to another. In the left part of the window, open the folder in which this file is located, and in the right - the folder into which this file needs to be copied. Then just drag the file with the left button from one part of the window to another. Alternatively, you can use the hotkey F5. (fig. 2)

Moving files is done in a similar way, but instead of the F5 button, F6 is used. If you are using manual drag, then hold down the Shift key. (fig. 3)

If you need to select several files in a row to perform operations on them, hold down the Shift key and click on the name of the first and last file. In this case, all files in the list between them will be highlighted. (fig. 4)

If the files are not nearby, click on them while holding down the Ctrl key. (fig. 5)

It is often necessary to change the file extension if you saved it in the wrong format, or if your computer does not support some of the formats. Double-click the left button slowly or press Shift + F6. Now you can change the extension or rename the file. (fig. 6)

With Total Commander, you can quickly view files without opening them. To do this, use the F3 key. The F8 key is used to delete files.

Navigation in the program is very convenient. For example, to go directly to the root of the disk, you should press the "\\" button. To go up one level, use the ".." button or double-click on the first line "[..]". For convenience, you can sort folders and files by various parameters: name, size, date or type.

To make the program easier to work with, I recommend that you study the settings. Select the Configuration / Setup menu item. A window of this kind will open. (fig. 7)

If you are just starting to work with Total Commander, proceed with caution, change only the basic settings. For example, you can make the context menu of a file invoke with the right mouse button. To do this, in the left part of the Settings window, select the Basic operations item. In the window that opens, set the switch with the Left button (as is customary in Windows) in the Select with the mouse item. After that, you can rename, delete, copy files, select a program for viewing, just by clicking the right button, as in the Windows environment. (fig. 8)

Also, using the settings, you can change the interface language, window design, column contents, the appearance of disk and partition buttons, display of hidden files, etc. As you can see, the program's capabilities are quite wide, the main thing is to learn how to use them correctly.

Remote work with high wages

The file manager Total Commander has truly outstanding functionality, which most of its admirers do not even suspect - usually only basic file operations and document viewing options are used. And in this article I have compiled the Top-5 of not the most famous, but very useful functions of the Total Commander, which I use every day.

CTRL + B... This key combination allows you to show all files in a given folder and subdirectories without this very folder structure, that is, "all in one heap". For example, you need to see which file is the oldest or the largest (to delete them in order to clean up the disk), and also perform a batch rename. Otherwise, you would have to do it for each folder separately. Pressing CTRL + B again (or on the dial button) returns to normal view. Moreover, if you managed to move the cursor to the desired file, then pressing CTRL + B again will transfer you to the folder where it is, and the file itself will remain in focus under the cursor.

Batch rename... A powerful built-in function that allows you to perform renaming according to a specific algorithm for tens or thousands (and sometimes tens of thousands) of files at once. For example, you need to substitute a serial number at the beginning, change the extension to another, cut off or add part of the name, remove the extension, substitute the date or time, change the case of characters from lowercase to uppercase and vice versa, etc. Moreover, before performing renaming, it is possible to sort , by date, size or title. You can rename not all files in the directory, but only a few - then you need to select them first.

Counting the size of folders... Allows by pressing Shift + Alt + Enter to calculate the size of folders. It is very convenient to assess where the hard disk space has gone - the operation is performed in the root directory, or to find out which of the folders takes up the most space (for example, on a USB flash drive) and requires cleaning. The list output can be sorted by size (as well as files). The operation is similar to pressing the Space key on a directory, but it applies to all folders at once.

Create a copy of a file in the same directory, rename without changing the extension... Everyone is familiar with the F5 (copy) and F6 (move) buttons, but few people know that pressing Shift + F5 allows you to copy a file to the same folder (changing the name), and pressing Shift + F6 allows you to rename a file without displaying additional windows directly in the panel without affecting the file extension (it will not change).

Entering exe archives and CD and DVD images (iso, img) as folders... This function allows you to enter different archives as directories and perform standard operations, including those listed above (for example, calculating the size of directories). In addition, by pressing CTRL + Page Down, you can also enter self-extracting archives with exe extension or images of CD and DVD disks.

It is very useful. For example, to open an archived exe file without running it. If such an exe file has been infected with a virus, you can add or extract files from it without infection. It may also be necessary to extract one file from a CD and DVD image. Usually, for this you need to write the image file to a physical disk or mount it into the system (which only Windows 10 and later can do without installing additional programs).

Daily use of these features will make working with files and documents much easier and will save you a lot of time. Let me remind you that, although Total Commander is paid, the author does not prohibit the use of the demo version, which has full functionality and differs from the purchased one only by displaying an additional window with a reminder at startup.

So why do we need third-party file managers? And in general, you ask, what is a file manager? Everything is simple here. File manager ( english file manager file manager), i.e. is a program that will help Okul? re you in managing files on your computer.
