Review: xiaomi mi max is a huge, thin and comfortable smartphone. Xiaomi Mi Max - Specifications

The last 9 months I have spent with the Doogee X5 phone and have been thinking for a long time, whether to buy something with a bigger screen and a bigger battery. My previous device had a 6.4 "diagonal, and why not take it a little more, I thought and took it. The diagonal of the current 6.44", meet - the Xiaomi Mi Max phablet.
* be careful, there are so many photos and text that Lev Nikolaevich would envy *

To begin with, I woke up on a sunny Saturday morning and found that my phone was dead. When trying to turn it on, it only blinked with a red indicator LED. But it turned out so not because the phone has a weak battery, but rather the opposite, I just forgot to put it on charge for two days in a row, and used the device quite actively during this time.

Let's put the phone on charge. SoC MiMax is capable of QC 3.0 (and 2.0), but my fast charger is still on the way, let's see how much it takes from the native PSU through the native cord. As it turned out, honest 2A.
The phone charges fully in less than 3 hours, with Quick Charge 3.0 devices promising to charge up to 80% in half an hour.

Voltage

The phone has recharged a little, the color of the indicator has changed to yellow, symbolizing the continuation of the charging process, towards the end of charging it turns green.
The same indicator can be used to signal missed calls and new messages, the color of the diode is configured in the menu. Quite a simple and at the same time convenient function, which for some reason not all phones are equipped with.

To summarize: I will say this, for a day, in the “smartphone” mode, the battery should be enough for any person on planet Earth. Probably gluttonous 3D games at full brightness, with music and Wi-Fi would quickly drain the battery, but if you just watch YouTube for a couple of hours on Wi-Fi with Bluetooth enabled, read forums, chat in instant messengers, take a few photos, a little navigation in 2Gis and a few calls , the phone can be charged every 2 days.
How nice it is when you don't need to turn off WiFi every time you leave the room, risking running out of charge in the evening, and you don't need to monitor battery consumption at all.

I haven’t forgotten yet: the phone has a Micro-USB connector, I came across reviews saying they could have already delivered Type-C, and, I’ll tell you, I’m very glad that there is the most unified Micro-USB that anyone has and everyone, it's not for nothing that the whole forum ordered these laces for cents from Zapals and Aliexpress :)

I bought the phone in the Top One store (since there are good reviews) with the international version of the firmware, delivery of the CDEK to the door (I intercepted the courier on the way, so as not to change the delivery address and not wait another day, since I was at work, I had to go there initially order)

He came to me in such a box:

Xiaomi loves minimalism and recycled cardboard, but here it even came out somehow too laconic

The store sent as a gift an adapter for an outlet (very high quality, in appearance), a silicone case, molded precisely and very convenient, it protects the camera glass, with it the smooth metal case of the phone does not slip out of your hands.

True, the color has changed in places, perhaps it will quickly turn yellow and require replacement. They also sent 2 films for free, they are slightly smaller than the screen itself, do not cover its frames, perhaps this is due to the 2.5D glass, but in order to smoothly glue the film, I had to try, as you can see, I could not completely get rid of the bubbles, it's a pity that the film is not glued "out of the box" or store.

The box also contains instructions, a key for the card tray, a power supply unit with a USB 5V 2A output and a cord, the most common items, I will not lay them out, and there will be many photos.

Let's take a look at the case of the device:

Metal brick with plastic inserts along the edges so as not to shield the antennas

It is assembled well, the body elements do not stick out and do not creak, people creaked, but I didn’t bend it on purpose, it’s not interesting to me.

I like the design - it is as simple, functional and convenient as it is impersonal, a kind of Soviet constructivism.

Pay attention to the small weather icon (the widget at the top is "not stock"), it changes in accordance with the received data. Perhaps this is the merit of the 6th version of Droid?

The icons of messengers and many other applications are just as smart

I will recharge a little more, but for now, open the tray with SIM and SDHC cards:

Do you recognize "memory"? Half of Musi probably has the same :)

As you can see, one of the places in the tray, the SIM card shares with the memory card, but it is already under the nano-SIM, fortunately, this discrimination is absolutely indifferent to me, since I use only one SIM.

We better shove the little things back before we lose

Let's turn it over and look at the smartphone tablet screen:

Juicy screen 6.44 ". Reviews often mention the term" not bad ", in general, this is how it is, I will say more, it is gorgeous.
I will not pour out praises in front of this large diagonal and paint in paints how cool it is to surf and no, browse YouTube, read books, type notes and watch the Champions League with friends and beer on it. Oh, the last one was probably too much :)
But I will say that it is convenient. Highly.

Recently I caught myself thinking that I hadn’t sat at home at the computer for a long time. Yes, I certainly won't watch a movie or football on a phablet, but almost everything that doesn't need Photoshop or 3D Max is not difficult to do from a phone, not to mention multimedia, even though I don't have a tablet, and I don't need it now.

Perhaps, if you look diagonally at an angle, the colors "go away", but as a rule I hold the phone in my hands and look, therefore, at a right angle. Using it as a navigator in the car, I did not notice any problems, the screen diagonal easily compensates for all the "corners".

FHD resolution (1920 * 1080), I think it is optimal for such a diagonal, in terms of battery use and expediency. The brightness is sufficient, widely adjustable, easy to read on a sunny day and at night.

A couple more photos, it's not for nothing that I took them ..

Since I touched on navigation, I'll add a few more words. It catches Chinese, American and Russian satellites, determines the coordinates in a couple of seconds and does not cause any complaints, and the OS itself turns on and off navigation when starting and exiting 2GIS or Navitel, which is extremely convenient and saves battery power.

Hereinafter, I will compress screenshots, take care of the wheels on the mice :)

How much does such a shovel weigh with such a battery, you ask?
Not so much, just like 2 chocolates:

According to the official data, the weight of the phone is 203g, the case adds another 17 grams accordingly.
Weight and dimensions give the impression of a very light device, which is facilitated by the small thickness - 7.5 mm.

Well, is this mass? See for yourself:

Case dimensions: 173 x 88 x 7.5 mm. And yes, if you think it is convenient, believe me, it is not.
How can you comfortably wear such a balalaika? This case is perhaps the most convenient option (there are 3 cases of this size left from the old phone).

Do you remember what hangs on your side every time you sit down in a chair :)
However, over time, it becomes habitual to wear it, it does not interfere, but you still cannot call it comfortable.

Why actually MiMax, you ask?

So I'm the main fan of the Chinese epla, well! : D

I liked the phablet as soon as it came out, but its cost was too high, and then, once comparing several large-screen phones on the kimovil website, I noticed that the Xiaomi phablet is available in a version with 2GB of RAM for an acceptable cost, and retains high performance.
2GB RAM version, $ 50 cheaper than 3GB version. Of course, 2GB at the end of 16, when smartphones with 4GB on board are being sold in full, is far from being a fantasy, but from my phone I mainly look at pages on the Internet, read, write notes, 2GIS, Navitel, YouTube, and for these purposes, RAM I don't seem to need a lot, but I don't play games.
I can say that after booting the system, about 800MB of RAM is free, I have Viber, Vasapp, etc. installed, about 700MB remains. Personally, I would recommend the version with 3GB of RAM, although so far I have never encountered a shortage of RAM, Android is a fairly flexible system in terms of memory use and quickly unloads what is not used, but one more GB would probably be useful for games, and besides the weak graphics of Adreno 510 are available, well, the appetites of the programmers are irrepressible, the software quickly grows heavy, the extra gigabyte is a good reserve for the future, because we have not yet heard about the second version of the phablet.

In general, whether the size of the RAM matters, let everyone decide for themselves :)

Even before my purchase, the news slipped through that MiMax would fall in price by another $ 30, due to the release of the Meizu phablet, but I did not notice a serious decrease in prices. But, having looked at the prices in Russian online stores, I was surprised that you can buy MiMax 2GB no more expensive than I took from the Chinese, well, okay, at least I had a lot of business with the Chinese, and I know that they will not be deceived (or the site will return the money ).

It is worth making a reservation here that there are 3 versions of the phablet in 3 colors with different amounts of permanent memory:
two with a six-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor (2 Cortex-A72 1.8 GHz and 4 Cortex-A53 1.4 GHz) with 2GB and 3GB of RAM, 16GB (like mine) and 16 (not seen on sale) / 32 / 64GB ROM, respectively.
and one with an eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 (four Cortex-A72 1.8 GHz and four Cortex-A53 1.4 GHz) with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of ROM.
Graphics everywhere Adreno 510 (600 MHz).

Let's finish with the hardware:

What the Snapdragon 650 is at the end of 16 is a 64-bit 6-core processor made using the grandfather's 28nm process for mid-range devices. At the beginning of the year, it beat Helio X10 (MT6795) 14 nm and Snapdragon 808 on 4 Kryo cores with a frequency of 2.2 GHz, inferior to the top-end quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor (Dual cluster Kryo 2x2.15GHz + 2x1.59GHz at 14 nm, etc.) ...

Little has changed since then, in the first place is OnePlus3 (Snapdragon 820 2.2 GHz, 6 GB of RAM):

At the same time, the SoC is still quite powerful and energy efficient for everyday tasks.
According to kimovil, referring to the Antutu v6 tests, Mi Max with 2GB of RAM and its 73,000 parrots, "the best result among 91% of mobile phones", I don't know what that means :)

Let's run the test and we:

I think "Tanchiki" will pull.

Well, a little more on the characteristics:
Wireless connectivity: Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac (dual-band: 2.4 and 5 GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS / GLONASS / BDS, support for A-GPS, FM radio (turns on even without an antenna headphone)
2G: GSM 800/900/1 800/1 900 MHz,
3G: WCDMA 850/900/1 900/2 100 MHz,
4G: FDD-LTE 1 800/2 100/2 600 MHz, VoLTE
Infrared port.

As for the IrDA, there is a special application for setup and operation, it is interesting to try it, but in fact it is faster and more convenient to take the remote control from the TV set than to launch the application on the phone.

Camera: 16 MP. Two LEDs on the flash - warm and cold. There is a camera here and this seems to be all. After Arc X5, it's like a Canon DSLR for half a million, but I can't say that it has any outstanding qualities. However, it is very nimble, with a nice interface, you can permanently use the flash diodes when shooting, it shoots tolerably in low light, but there are not enough stars from the sky. I can say that this is quite enough for a phone and it is even much better than on the phones of most passers-by, but it does not reach the cameras of the flagships of Samsung and iPhone, which may be critical for someone.
Can write HD video at 120 fps, FHD and 4K (well, well).

At first, I forgot to set the maximum quality in the camera settings (and the first video is in 720p and not in 1080p), and I also don’t remember where HDR pictures are and where they are not, but I think that this is of little importance, especially the second one, since the camera shoots in HDR very quickly, not to be distinguished in time from a simple photo, i.e. you can shoot everything in this mode. I did not indulge in the settings.

Pressed up to 3000 in width.

Flash test:

Front camera: 5MP The same f / 2.0, 85 degrees. Again, not Aysus Selfie, and does not even have a flash, but it clicks at a modern level, a smart "decorator" that can also show gender and age, the algorithm does not work badly, but this feature is just to show friends, otherwise who it is necessary? It can be useful only in Thailand.

What we have left of the piece of iron left without attention ... oh yes, a fingerprint scanner.
Here, alas, I can’t say almost anything, since I don’t use it, so I am so paranoid. By the way, have you seen where my foil hat has gone?
Anyway. If you do not "roll" your fingers, from touching the scanner, the screen turns on and then it can be unlocked - the equivalent of pressing the "on" button.

There is also a speaker, even two, one for conversational, the second for a ringtone, how do you like that? ;)
The interlocutor is normally heard, the call is also heard, at least there was no desire to go into the engineering menu.
There are also two microphones, the top one, which is located near the 3.5mm jack and the IrDA for noise cancellation.
They did not complain about "hard to hear".

Buttons remained. The buttons below, there are 3 of them and they are touch-sensitive, have a white backlight. In itself, the fact that the buttons are not on the screen, and do not steal its usable area, pleases me, and even nowadays their backlighting is not on every call. The brightness is unobtrusive, it is not visible during the day, it does not distract at night, I have a uniform backlight (I read that it is not).

Well, for sweetness, about the operating system:
The device came with the international firmware MIUI 8 version with weekly updates, based on Android 6.0. The system immediately pleasantly surprised me, and after two weeks, I still have not changed my attitude towards its organization and work, but more on that below.
Certain difficulties were caused by the impossibility of simply obtaining superuser rights, through the application or installation of the people's recovery, while maintaining updates over the air. The fact is that blocking the bootloader is a requirement of Google, and in order to unblock it conditionally legally, I had to register on the Xiaomi website and, through a translator, ask permission from the Chinese. A couple of days later, I received the cherished SMS, after which, after installing the program on the computer and connecting the phone in fastboot mode, I unlocked the bootloader, and later I downloaded the custom recovery and patched root. These are the dances with a tambourine, on the other hand, not everyone needs updates by air, and the root itself, in general, is the same.

MIUI has many advantages, it's easier to list its disadvantages. On the desktop there are "themselves" applications and not shortcuts, ie. removal from the desktop results in removal from the system. But you can group applications into folders. Here in the default folder "Others" is the first drawback - the loadable squares for advertising applications at the bottom.

Also, you cannot change the bookmarks-relam of sites on the start page of the built-in browser, you can delete them, but they are loaded through the network.
There is also information about the connected SD card with a proposal to unmount, which appears in the blind after a reboot.

In the phone book, you cannot quickly scroll through contacts using the alphabet on the right, if the contacts are in Russian, because there is an English alphabet.

By how insignificant these are, one can judge my degree of satisfaction with everything else.

It was a little unusual to call the menu on the desktop and in applications not by tapping on the corresponding button, but by pressing it. Tap leads to the transition to the application manager, by the way, there is a very convenient button for closing all current applications and a display of free RAM.

A new SMS can be marked with a read slide to the right, without opening its contents, which is convenient when you receive typical messages from an operator, payment system, etc. And the important can be pinned at the top of the list so as not to lose sight of.

If, without unlocking the screen, hold down the "home" button, the flash will work as a flashlight, the mode is fixed with the on / off button. Shines bright and wide, no worse than Nightcore Tube (see Flash Test above). And double-clicking the volume rocker "-" launches the camera, it's convenient.

With a locked screen, you can also control the audio player, and instead of the usual picture, the album cover will be displayed.

Only when moving to a new phone, I faced the fact that there are a lot of duplicates in the contact book (I did not want to use Google accounts for this), I had to install several grouping programs that are either not intuitive or work incorrectly. However, going into the settings of the contact book, I discovered a built-in grouping tool, which I subsequently used with success.

Another nice thing is application traffic management, it is very simple to deny access to the network for any application, which is sometimes extremely convenient, to allow access only if there is a Wi-Fi connection or to set a limit on the volume of traffic.

Swiping your finger sequentially over all the bottom buttons, you can turn on the "one-handed control" mode, the desktop will be shrunk to 3.5-5 ", you can easily dial numbers with one thumb, but I don't see any great benefit in this.

Also, the system has a built-in cleaner that allows you to find and remove the same versions or not installed application distributions, browser cache and other programs, freeing up space and putting things in order. Well, there is also a built-in antivirus (what, viruses for Android? Pfff!) Let it be, as they say.
MIUI supports a variety of skins, built-in and downloadable, that can change the layout of the interface elements, application icons and colors, adding variety to the daily use of the phone.

For this, perhaps everything. I hope it was interesting.
Here I have such an ambiguous, somewhat unique, and not leaving people indifferent, and most importantly - the most optimal apparatus for me, peace to all, and thank you for reading the first volume: P

The design of the tablet-like smartphone with a 6.44 "screen diagonal shows the common features of the modern line of Xiaomi mobile phones. This is especially noticeable when looking at the back of the gadget, divided into a metal center, as well as plastic inserts at the top and bottom.

Configurations

The phablet is available in a variety of configurations: from the simplest with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory on board to the top-end one with 4 GB of RAM and a storage capacity of 128 GB. The middle ground between these varieties is the 32 GB version of the smartphone, which operates on an 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 chip and has 3 GB of RAM. The synthetic test AnTuTu gives a result of 77 thousand "parrots" for such a bundle, which indicates the possibility of performing any daily tasks and launching heavy applications without any problems.

Gigantic screen

The gigantic screen of the gadget is covered with 2.5D glass, and on its sides there are rather big frames. However, against the background of the overall dimensions of the model, they do not seem so. With an impressive diagonal, you can comfortably control the gadget with one hand only if you have big palms and long fingers.

Photo and video

The quality of images taken with the main camera of the smartphone deserves an "above average" rating: in daylight, the 16-megapixel module with f / 2.0 aperture produces excellent results, and when the light level drops, the image can be spoiled by noise. Using manual settings increases the chance of getting acceptable images. Video shooting is given to the camera with an effort - although it can record videos in 4K format (3840x2160 pixels), the video sequence does not shine with high quality. In addition, the absence of a stabilization system makes itself felt. The front camera has a resolution of 5 MP and can record videos in FullHD format.

Autonomy

One of the "chips" of Xiaomi smartphones is the presence of an infrared port for controlling equipment, which was no exception for Xiaomi Mi Max. The level of autonomy of the gadget deserves great respect - battery with a capacity of 4850 mAh provides 2 full days of active use of the smartphone... And although the manufacturer has not officially announced support for Qualcomm Quick Charge technology, in fact, fast battery charging is present. Finally, the attractive price tag of the model makes it one of the most affordable phablets on the market.

The Xiaomi Mi Max smartphone is one of the latest innovations from the manufacturer, which has already managed to attract close attention not only from specialists, but also from ordinary consumers who have appreciated the dimensions of the gadget, its performance and functionality. The combination is quite successful, so the device is an unambiguous contender for a closer acquaintance.

Appearance

Mi Max has large enough dimensions, which favorably distinguishes it from competitors. The diagonal of the screen is 6.4 inches, but the device is very comfortable in the hand and does not cause any particular discomfort to control it. This is largely due to the thin body and rounded edges.

At the top of the front face there is an LED indicator and a camera. Bottom - touch-sensitive control keys, on the top end you can find an infrared port and a 3.5-audio jack. The bottom end is occupied by grilles that hide the speakers, between which there is room for a microUSB connector.

On the left side there is a slot for connecting SIM cards, on the right there is a volume control and a button responsible for unlocking the device and turning it off. They are positioned low enough to increase the comfort of use.

The back panel is metal, only at the top and bottom there are small plastic inserts that ensure uninterrupted data transfer, including wireless protocols. The camera located at the top has a small protrusion from the body. To protect it, the manufacturer has provided a steel rim and Gorilla glass. Near the camera is a dual-color flash and a fingerprint reader, with a slight notch for greater convenience.

Display

Xiaomi Mi Max offers users a Full HD screen based on an IPS matrix. It is protected by a Gorilla Glass 4 sapphire crystal located on top, the rounded edges of which harmoniously fit into the 2.5D technology. There is no layer of air between the screen and the glass. The dimensions of the frame for a model in this price category are minimal - everything looks quite stylish and sophisticated.

As stated earlier, the screen diagonal is 6.4 inches, which, with a pixel density of 342 ppi, makes it possible to form a clear and detailed picture without grids and defects. The image pleases with its elaboration and realism, including when viewed at an angle - no distortions were noticed even with a significant deviation. There are no problems with viewing, even in bright sunlight. The auto-adjustment is fast and quite solid, the screen itself supports up to 10 multi-touch touches.

Performance

Xiaomi Mi Max is available to the consumer in several variations, which makes it possible to choose the best option for any needs and requests. One of the modifications is based on the Snapdragon 652 processor with 8 cores, the second is based on the 6-core Snapdragon 650. The frequency in both cases reaches 1.8 GHz. RAM is also variable - 3 or 4 GB available. As for the integrated, it reaches 32, 64 or 128 GB.

Responsible for graphics acceleration GPU Adreno 510 - thanks to this combination, even the "younger" version of the smartphone demonstrates high productivity when working with a variety of applications, including when they are launched simultaneously. The device does not heat up during operation, as evidenced by multiple consumer reviews - the case temperature does not exceed 57 ° C. The interface is smooth, there are no jerks or slowdowns.

The fingerprint scanner is also pleasing - setting it up takes no more than 20 seconds, and the capture during scanning covers the entire pad up to the nail. Unlocking is instant and takes no more than one attempt.

Operating system and software Xiaomi Mi Max

The device operates under Android OS version 6.0 Marshmallow, which is complemented by the MIUI 8 graphic shell.

Initially, an English and Chinese language pack is available, although there are no problems with downloading the Russian localization, the process takes literally a few minutes.

The system itself does not contain anything superfluous - just a list of necessary settings and a package of standard services from Google. The work is not difficult and does not require getting used to - everything is implemented at a fairly high level. And from an aesthetic point of view, everything looks very, very nice. Separately, it is worth highlighting the notification system and the integrated equalizer, which allows you to use the required preset for listening with Xiaomi headphones.

Despite its impressive dimensions, the one-handed operation is straightforward. Optionally, you can select the required area size for the control elements, or launch the Touch Assistant - a floating function key with a wide range of available options.

Cameras

The main camera Mi Max from Xiaomi has a resolution of 16 megapixels and demonstrates a fairly good level of images, albeit not pretending to be professional quality. Detail and sharpness are good, both in natural and natural light, the photos are realistic, with excellent color reproduction and color balance.

Examples of photos taken with Xiaomi Mi Max:

When shooting at night, everything is far from being so positive, although there is nothing surprising in this - the price segment does not have a truly high-quality and productive camera, suitable for productive functioning in various conditions.

Night photo example:

Many settings allow you not only to choose the best shooting option, but also to supplement the photo with various effects.

The front camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels, which in combination with a wide-angle lens allows you to get good selfies. Video shooting is available in Full HD-format at 1080p and 30 fps. There is also an option for shooting in slow motion.

Autonomy

As for the indicators of autonomous functioning, this model, although it does not offer anything supernatural, at the same time demonstrates good indicators that are unattainable for many other devices in this segment. The volume of the battery is 4850 mAh, the unit itself is non-removable, which can cause some difficulties during long-term use.

There is no wireless charging option, but online charging is available - using Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology, it provides 80% of the full battery in just 30 minutes, which is made possible by an increase in the incoming current and voltage. It is worth noting that such a function is available only if an original or Qualcomm-certified charger is used.

When operating in standby mode, the duration of the device is about 480 hours, continuous conversation is possible during the day. You can listen to your favorite music for 100 hours in a row, but when watching a video, you will have to limit yourself to only 15 hours.

Communication and data transmission

There are no slightest complaints about the work of voice communication - the sound is loud, clear, without defects or noise. The use of network resources is also hassle-free and consistent with active coverage areas. GPS activation is fast - if there is satellite data, the process takes no more than 5 seconds, if there is no information - up to 20 seconds.

The infrared port, subject to the use of specialized applications, can be used to control a wide range of devices - both gadgets from Xiaomi and various household appliances, including an air conditioner or TV.

Advantages and disadvantages of the model

Speaking about the main advantages, it is worth initially pointing out such of them:
  • Large screen and its balanced body attitude;
  • Working with 4G;
  • High performance processor;
  • Roomy battery pack;
  • Integrated IR port;
  • The presence of a fingerprint scanner;
  • Front camera with wide-angle lens;
  • Acceptable cost.
However, there are certain disadvantages, including:
  • Lack of NFC module;
  • Problems with performing some operations with one hand;
  • Combining a second SIM slot with a flash card;
  • Difficulty of perception of MIUI shell by some consumers.

No

As you can see, the hardware and the main camera have changed. This is both good and bad. Let's start with the latter.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor has become incredibly popular among manufacturers. Since the middle of last year, a million different models of smartphones have been released on it, and all due to the fact that the chipset offers performance sufficient for most modern tasks, but does not consume extra energy, because it is created using 14-nanometer technology.

The predecessor was Snapdragon 650 or 652, which are still considered very powerful "stones", not flagship, but very close to that. However, they are made on the basis of the 28 nm process technology, therefore, they consume more power.

We'll talk about the camera later, but the fact that in 2017 Xiaomi stubbornly does not want to add the 20th LTE band is bad manners. Okay, in their homeland such support is useless, but the Chinese are almost the most popular tourists in the world, they travel to all countries, and there the 20th frequency would be very useful. In a Kempinski hotel, for example, with thick walls.

The last point that is frustrating is the lack of NFC. Xiaomi, ay! Contactless payments are accepted even in vegetable markets, and you still won't be born with massive NFC equipment on your smartphones. How long ?!

Performance

We remember a simple rule for the past and this whole year. If the smartphone has a QS 625 processor, then there will be no problems with performance. At least if the developers don't mess with the software. And here we have MIUI 8.5, therefore, the interface, animation - everything flies.

The situation with games is as follows.

You can play "tanks" only on average graphics parameters, then the frequency will jump around 30-40 FPS. At the maximum, this figure is already 20-25 FPS and it is already difficult to play comfortably.

Cameras

At the front, we have a 5MP module with an 85-degree lens. Aperture f / 2.0, sharpness and correct definition of white balance at.

I can't call Mi Max 2 a cool selfie phone. Yes, and you should not do such tricks with him, because dropping such a colossus from the palm of an outstretched hand is a trifling matter.

The main camera is 12 megapixels. The exact same matrix (Sony IMX386) is installed as the main module in Xiaomi Mi6 - in the flagship, not for a second. However, a lighter glass - f / 1.8 was placed in the Mishestom. I think that it is for this reason that comparing these two devices is still inappropriate.

As for me, the developers in the case of the Mi Max 2 simply gave up on at least some refinement of the software algorithms.

The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 camera takes quite mediocre photos.

It is important to add - if we are talking about the bar that is set by the not-so-top cameraphone - Mi6.

Even during the day, the phase detection autofocus misses and the photos are not clear. And the very detail of the pictures is lame. You approach the object, and it is tightly crushed by software algorithms - a solid watercolor.

White balance constantly mows towards overexposure - only a well-designed HDR helps out. Everything is fine with this, and in particular, the dynamic range can be set to auto mode and the camera itself will decide when to use it. True, I would not trust her.

We take all originals from here in one archive.

The smartphone is able to record 4K videos, and it does it pretty well. True, there is no stabilization, but you can live with it. And you can also live with the fact that sound recording is catastrophically buggy. On the first firmware for Xiaomi, this is normal, so we are waiting for the next update with fixes. Below is an example.

Software

My device runs on the latest Android 7.1.1. True, there is not much left of the system in the form in which it was conceived by Google. Especially not enough branded tweaks for splitting the screen into two applications. At 6.4 inches, that would be great.

About the pleasant.

The global firmware has already been released, and for a long time. The phablet came to me from an online store with a pre-installed global firmware (at the factory, as the seller explains). There is a Russian language, applications from the Google Play market are put on with a bang, updates arrive - everything is covered in chocolate.

Moreover! Mi Max 2 is almost the first device in which there is no problem with notifications. I did not set up anything, but they themselves come from all the applications I need. Yes, there were a couple of jambs in WhatsApp and Telegram, but in 95% of cases everything is fine.

With MIUI, as always, there are no problems with stability and settings. There are a lot of the latter, everything can be customized to your liking. In general, MIUI in all its glory.

Personally, I'm especially a fan of cloning apps. Any utility (in general, any!) Can be cloned in a second and use two accounts on one smartphone, even if the developers did not foresee this. Chic!

Battery life

And here Mi Max 2 breaks all its competitors. The 5,300mAh battery is what the doctor ordered.

The smartphone can easily live a day with a little at 10 hours (!) Of screen work.

At the same time, I surfed the net a lot, used the full social network, took pictures, and the screen backlight was set to a value above average.

In other words, if you do not sit online all day, then the device will work freely on one charge for two days. Great result!

A full charge takes 2 hours 37 minutes. Thanks for this Quick Charge 3.0.

Outcome

The official price of Xiaomi Mi Max 2 in China is as follows:

  • $ 250 asking for a model with a memory ratio of 4 + 64 GB
  • $ 293 will have to pay for the maximum configuration (4 + 128 GB)

There is no need to overpay, because 64 "gigabytes" is already a decent amount of memory. In addition, you can always plug in a 128 GB Micro SD. Freedom of choice is good.

Personally, I ordered my smartphone from this store. The current price tag there at the moment is $ 255. In other words, an overpayment of only five dollars gives free shipping, and global firmware right out of the box, and a silicone case plus a film on the screen (coupon GWSuperG we indicate in the comments to the order). What doubts can there be about where else to buy? Moreover, I took it there.

I liked the phablet itself. Only two facts are upsetting. First, performance has dropped compared to. Not much, but still. Second, the camera could shoot better. No, she does pretty decent footage, especially HDR and macro. However, I would like the same thing that is in Mi6. Yes, the optics are different, but the sensors are still the same.

In all other respects, this is almost the best offer in its category. Do you need a device with a large, high-quality screen, stable system and inexpensive? Buy Xiaomi Mi Max 2 and forget it.
