Find what you need for. How to find the necessary information on the Internet

Very often it happens that a person loses at home any object or thing: keys, watches, bracelet, passport and much more. Quite a lot of effort and nerves are often spent on searches. Sometimes it seems that the whole house has already been searched, but the loss was never found.

Missing search options: vacuum cleaner

If a small thing has fallen, then a vacuum cleaner is suitable for its search. Disconnect the brush from the vacuum cleaner, and in its place fasten and carefully fasten an ordinary sock. Turn on the vacuum cleaner to the maximum and slowly drive the handset to the place where the necessary thing could fall. If you are lucky and there is a loss, then take it from the sock and turn off the vacuum cleaner.

Focus and think

When the dimensions of the item do not allow you to use a vacuum cleaner - do not despair. Try to pull yourself together, stop getting nervous and panicking. Sit, think, examine the room and those places where the wanted object can be located. It often happens that it is in front of your eyes, and your lack of focus prevents you from finding it.

If all else fails, then squint and remember where you last saw the loss. For example, you lost a flash drive: step by step remember where and when you used it and where you put it away. You inserted the USB flash drive into the computer, carried out certain actions, removed it from the connector and put it somewhere. Now sharply open your eyes and go to where you left the thing. If she is not there, then continue the search.

Contact your home

People always blame themselves, relying on their carelessness and distraction. But it is worth remembering that the matter may be in the peculiar changes occurring in your housing. The room where people live is considered to be the place where the energy associated with the life of each family member is concentrated. This very energy leads to the fact that you get tired, bury your head with thoughts about business and forget about the house. The roof feels this, so there is a kind of imbalance in energy and objects.

At such moments, you feel awkward, for example, trying to turn on the light where there is no switch or place a cup of food on the edge of the table so that it falls. It seems to you that the house is in chaos and asymmetry.

So, in order to find something, you need to go to your home. No, this does not mean that you need to torment yourself daily with general cleaning and caring for the apartment. Just live the house, feel it warmly, thank it for the fact that you have it, and you can relax in it, do what you love, cook food and be its owner.

Appease the brownie

The next step is to please the spirit of the house. Everyone knows that brownies love to make fun of the owners. This is especially true during the moments of recent check-in, in new buildings and when you do not care about the house. The spirit of the house can move objects, hide them, because he does not like something or is worried.

If you can’t find your favorite earrings and think that they are tricks of a brownie, then try to appease him: feed something tasty, floury and sweet. Place a piece of sugar, biscuit or some butter in the eastern part of the house (this is where the spirit of the house lives). The result is not long in coming - the thing will soon be in its place. You can talk with the brownie, ask him to return your item. Believe me, it really works.

Summon a thread

The ancestors left us another universal way to search for lost things: arm yourself with a thread or a rope and tie it to the table leg in the kitchen.

Such actions cause the lost item to return to its place. Most things disappear as a result of temporary changes, so it is the invocation of the thing that will return it to its owner.

Pendulum to the rescue

Search using a pendulum is also quite common among Old Believers. You can take a special pendulum for dowsing or you can make it yourself from a weight suspended on a rope. Holding the pendulum, start thinking about the lost thing, about its appearance and belonging. Make a wish in which express what you want this thing to be found. Walk around the room with a pendulum in your hands. When you feel his movement - go to where he leads you. This is how you can find the location of a lost item.

If no advice helped you, and the thing was never found, but you are sure that it is in your house, then use the last method that guarantees that you will find it - general cleaning of the room. This method is good because your home will begin to shine with cleanliness, and the fact that the loss will certainly show up.

Be sure to use the tips given above, then you can easily find exactly what you need and exactly where you do not expect it. Try not to lose your favorite things and household items.

How to calculate the enemy by IP or find out the address of a girl you like? We talk about services, search operators and interesting tricks.

Here's what you can do:

1. Find the latest person’s posts in all social networks at once

  5. Find out what people around Twitter post.

Using the “near:” operator, you can find out what residents of a particular city are writing about:

Or at a point with a certain latitude and longitude:

Geographic coordinates can be determined from this map or viewed in exif-data of photographs.

6. Find out who is in the photo

We cut out the part of the photo where the person has his head and upload it to the image search page on Google. We are surprised at the result.

7. Find out what a person posted on Twitter on a specific day

Sometimes it’s interesting to know what a famous person posted on their Twitter account before a certain date. For example, what did Tim Cook post in his account before October 17th, 2015?

For such complex tasks, Twitter has operators for advanced searches. They must be typed on the main page of the social network in the form in the upper right corner:

If you combine the above “until” with the “since” operator, you can make a selection of tweets for a certain period of time. For example, you can find out what Tim Cook wrote during Christmas week:

8. Find out if a person is wanted

If your new friend is suspicious, then you should look for him in the database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of your region.

9. Find out if he has debts

14. Find out in which region he bought a SIM card

You can determine the region and operator for subscribers on the website gsm-inform.ru.

15. Find out, find out the person’s apartment number by home phone number

The last life hack makes a lasting impression on women:

A) Escort the new girl to the entrance. By chance, ask for her home phone number;

B) In between, go to the Sberbank mobile application and go to the section for paying for MGTS services;

C) Drive in a phone number and find out the apartment number;

D) Before saying goodbye, talk about a second cousin uncle who participated in the “Battle of psychics” and offer to guess her apartment number;

D) What is the desired number;

DuckDuckGo is a fairly well-known open source search engine. Servers are located in the USA. In addition to its own robot, the search engine uses the results of other sources: Yahoo, Bing, Wikipedia.

The better

DuckDuckGo positions itself as a search that provides maximum privacy and confidentiality. The system does not collect any data about the user, does not store logs (there is no search history), the use of cookies is as limited as possible.

DuckDuckGo does not collect or share user information. This is our privacy policy.

Gabriel Weinberg, founder of DuckDuckGo

Why do you need it

All major search engines try to personalize based on data about a person in front of the monitor. This phenomenon is called the “filter bubble”: the user sees only those results that are consistent with his preferences or that the system considers them to be.

DuckDuckGo creates an objective picture that does not depend on your past behavior on the Web, and eliminates the thematic advertising of Google and Yandex, based on your requests. Using DuckDuckGo, it’s easy to search for information in foreign languages: Google and Yandex, by default, prefer Russian-language sites, even if the request is entered in another language.

What is it

not Evil is a system that searches the anonymous Tor network. To use, you need to go into this network, for example, by launching a specialized network of the same name.

not Evil is not the only search engine of its kind. There is LOOK (the default search in the Tor browser, accessible from the regular Internet) or TORCH (one of the oldest search engines on the Tor network) and others. We settled on not Evil due to an explicit allusion to Google (just look at start page).

The better

It searches where Google, Yandex, and other search engines are barred from entering.

Why do you need it

The Tor network has many resources that cannot be found on the abiding Internet. And their number will grow as the authorities tighten control over the content of the Network. Tor is a kind of network within the Network with its social networks, torrent trackers, media, marketplaces, blogs, libraries and so on.

3. YaCy

What is it

YaCy is a decentralized search engine based on the principle of P2P networks. Each computer on which the main software module is installed scans the Internet independently, that is, it is an analogue of a search robot. The results are collected in a common database that all YaCy members use.

The better

It's hard to say here whether this is better or worse, since YaCy is a completely different approach to organizing searches. The absence of a single server and the owner company makes the results completely independent of one's preferences. The autonomy of each node eliminates censorship. YaCy is able to search deep web and non-indexed public networks.

Why do you need it

If you are a supporter of open source software and free Internet, not subject to the influence of government agencies and large corporations, then YaCy is your choice. It can also be used to organize searches within a corporate or other autonomous network. And while YaCy is not very useful in everyday life, it is a worthy alternative to Google in terms of the search process.

4. Pipl

What is it

Pipl - a system designed to search for information about a particular person.

The better

The authors of Pipl argue that their specialized algorithms are more efficient than "regular" search engines. In particular, the priority sources of information are social network profiles, comments, lists of participants and various databases where information about people is published, such as court decisions. Pipl's leadership in this area has been confirmed by Lifehacker.com, TechCrunch, and other publications.

Why do you need it

If you need to find information about a person living in the USA, then Pipl will be much more effective than Google. Databases of Russian ships, apparently, are not available to the search engine. Therefore, he does not cope with the citizens of Russia so well.

What is it

FindSounds is another specialized search engine. Searches for various sounds (home, nature, cars, people and so on) in open sources. The service does not support requests in Russian, but there is an impressive list of Russian-language tags by which you can search.

The better

In the issuance of only sounds and nothing more. In the search settings, you can set the desired format and sound quality. All found sounds are available for download. There is a search for sounds in the pattern.

Why do you need it

If you need to quickly find the sound of a musket shot, the blows of a woodpecker, or the cry of Homer Simpson, then this service is for you. And we chose this only from the available Russian-language queries. In English, the spectrum is even wider.

But seriously, a specialized service involves a specialized audience. But what if it comes in handy for you?

What is it

Wolfram | Alpha is a search engine. Instead of links to articles that contain keywords, it gives a ready-made answer to a user’s request. For example, if you enter “compare the population of New York and San Francisco” into the search form in English, then Wolfram | Alpha immediately displays the tables and graphs with the comparison.

The better

This service is better than others for finding facts and calculating data. Wolfram | Alpha accumulates and organizes the knowledge available on the Web from various fields, including science, culture and entertainment. If this database contains a ready-made answer to a search query, the system displays it; if not, it calculates and displays the result. In this case, the user sees only the necessary information and nothing more.

Why do you need it

If you, for example, are a student, analyst, journalist or researcher, you can use Wolfram | Alpha to search and calculate data related to your activity. The service does not understand all requests, but is constantly evolving and becoming smarter.

What is it

The Dogpile metasearch engine displays a combined list of results from search results of Google, Yahoo and other popular systems.

The better

Firstly, Dogpile displays less advertising. Secondly, the service uses a special algorithm to find and show the best results from different search engines. According to Dogpile developers, their systems form the most complete output on the entire Internet.

Why do you need it

If you can’t find the information on Google or another standard search engine, look for it in several search engines at once using Dogpile.

What is it

BoardReader is a text search system for forums, Q & A services and other communities.

The better

The service allows you to narrow the search field to social sites. Thanks to special filters, you can quickly find posts and user comments that match your criteria: language, publication date and site name.

Why do you need it

BoardReader can be useful for PR specialists and other media professionals who are interested in the opinion of the mass audience on certain issues.

Finally

The life of alternative search engines is often fleeting. About the long-term prospects of such projects, Lifehacker asked Sergey Petrenko, the former general director of the Ukrainian branch of Yandex.

Sergey Petrenko

Former CEO of Yandex.Ukraine.

As for the fate of alternative search engines, it is simple: to be very niche projects with a small audience, therefore without clear commercial prospects or, conversely, with complete clarity of their absence.

If you look at the examples in the article, you can see that such search engines either specialize in a narrow but demanded niche, which, perhaps only so far, has not grown enough to be noticeable on Google or Yandex radars, or they test the original hypothesis in ranking, which is not yet applicable in a normal search.

For example, if Tor search is suddenly in demand, that is, at least a percentage of Google’s audience will need the results, then, of course, ordinary search engines will begin to solve the problem of how to find and show them to the user. If the behavior of the audience shows that a significant share of users in a noticeable number of requests seems more relevant to the results, data without taking into account factors that depend on the user, then Yandex or Google will start to produce such results.

To be better in the context of this article does not mean to be better in everything. Yes, in many aspects, our heroes are far from Google and Yandex (even far from Bing). But each of these services gives the user something that giants in the search industry cannot offer. Surely you also know similar projects. Share with us - we will discuss.

When at the present time we are talking about “search” or “research”, few people mean spending a number of hours in the library in search of the right book or periodical. And we hardly even talk about online access to the scientific bases of schools or universities. The word “research” in everyday culture most often includes one meaning: open a browser, write keywords in the search bar and “surf” the Internet, until you find the information you need.

However, to achieve the result in the stage “until you find the right information”, a problem may arise - sometimes the search is delayed, and the information sought is not categorically. To quickly find the data you need and not waste time checking the “left” sites, you can use some tricks.

So, trick number 1: Use different search engines

Despite the fact that “search mastodons” (such as Google, Yandex, Yahoo!, etc.) often offer similar results, it’s worthwhile to make a request not only on one site. The difference in multiple links can be critical if that is exactly what you need.

If you are an ardent fan of one of the systems, then you can find out if it does not have highly specialized search tools (Google, for example, has Google Scholar, which allows you to search exclusively on the online repositories of universities, academic publishers).

Trick number 2: Dig deeper

How many of you have closed the search engine by skimming the first page of results? So, this is fundamentally wrong! We have the confidence in our heads that the best and most accurate results are on the first (in the worst case, the second) pages. That is why corporations pay a lot of money to get on the first pages of the search. Do not be fooled - browse through more pages, then you may come across less paid, but more interesting and necessary sites.

Trick Number 3: Clarity

You must understand well what exactly you are looking for before you begin the search itself. Sounds like a message from "captain evidence"? However, this is a very important point: very often users hope that the Internet will read their thoughts and give the right material for the first word. In fact, it turns out that you need to "promote" your topic from the very basics - the definition of keywords.

Search engines have access to a huge amount of information, and if you try a little, you can get from them "just" the information we need (instead of a bunch of "left" pages).

Trick Number 4: Use Modifiers

Not everyone knows, but our common punctuation marks (quotation marks, ellipses, dashes, hyphens, minuses, and others) and country codes help well in narrowing down your search results and making them as relevant as possible.

  • Use quotes, if you need a specific phrase or phrase, then the search engine will understand that you need to search for words by all means nearby.
  • When you need to find material that contains some words but excludes others, use a dash (or minus). It looks like this: "Newton is an apple." The tricky task for the search engine is to find everything about Newton, but not containing any mention of apples.
  • Enter the name of the site on which you want to search in the search bar. To search only on a specific site, use the word site (site), you can do it this way: if you are looking for news about the Khan Academy on newtonew .. And here it is.
  • If you need to find the information contained in a certain numerical interval, then you can use the dots to indicate which interval is required: for the query "Unified State Examination 2010..2014" the search engine will respond with articles mentioning all years between 2010 and 2014 and the word " USE ".
  • Use a country-coded search engine to get search results on national sites. For example, Google Korea looks like this: www.google.co.kr.

Trick Number 5: Be Vigilant and Critical

For those who doubt, we authoritatively declare: "Not everything that is written on the Internet should be trusted." Alas, this is so. Therefore, when you read an article or download material from a previously unvisited page, look around: “Is this a site with primary data? Is the information fresh, relevant and reliable? The article you read is replete with facts, but does not refer to studies, where are they obtained? Who wrote the article? Are they trying to sell you something? ”

Trick number 6: Quoting and quoting again

As they say, repetition is the mother of learning. If you used materials, statements and articles of some source, then refer to it later in your work. You do not want someone else to take your thoughts and ideas, and then call them yours? Therefore, do not do this to others.

We will use the last point and say thanks to the site Edudemic and its author Katie Lepi for a wonderful set of tips on how to make the search process on the Internet easier, faster and more enjoyable!

Everything that can be found on the Internet (books, music, photos, videos and more) is on the sites. That is, the Internet is a very, very, very many sites. To get to any of them, you need to open a program for working on the Internet, which is called a browser.

A browser is a program through which a person opens the Internet. As a rule, there are several such programs on a computer, but only one user works.

Most popular browsers: Google Chrome, Opera, Mozilla Firefox, Yandex and Internet explorer. Depending on which icon you open when you access the Internet, you use such a program.

Where to look for sites

Since all the information on the Internet is on sites, you need to open some site to get it.

Each of them has its own address. For example, the resource on which you are currently located has the address site

There are billions of such addresses. On each - some information. On one recipe, on the other video clips, on the third news ... It turns out a huge bunch of addresses and each with its own content.

And how to find the necessary information among them ?! Search engines will help us with this. Or, simply, search engines. These are such special reference sites. The principle of operation is simple: you open the address of a search engine site, type on it what you want to find on the Internet, and press the Enter button on the keyboard. In just a second, the search engine will search the entire Internet and show those sites where there is what you are looking for.

That is, in order to work on the Internet (find and download information, communicate, etc.), you only need to know one or two addresses of search engines.

Yandex (yandex.ru)

Let's start with the Yandex search engine, as it is a Russian search engine focused primarily on Russian-speaking people.

To open it, you need to type in English letters the address yandex.ru in the top line of the browser and press the Enter button on the keyboard.

A page like this will open.

Pay attention to the yellow stripe in the middle. It is she who is responsible for searching the Internet.

Left-click inside this strip (on the white line) and print in Russian what you want to find on the Internet.

By the way, you can print in English, and Ukrainian, and in other languages. But if you have never done this, it is better to start with Russian.

Suppose I want to find a biography of Leonardo Da Vinci. What is needed in this case?

You can, of course, print it like this: "I want to find a biography of Leonardo Da Vinci." But this is not the best option. Because the search engine is not a person. And “communicate” with him should be somewhat different. You need to print accurately and clearly. In my case, it’s better to type “Leonardo da Vinci biography”.

You can enter a query in any letters - both large and small. The search engine doesn’t care. Even if you print with errors, he will most likely correct them himself.

After entering the query, you need to click on the “Find” button at the end of the search line or the “Enter” button on the keyboard.

A new page with search results will load.

The following happened: I printed what I wanted to find on the Internet (scientifically called “entered a query”), pressed “Enter” - and Yandex instantly “walked” to the Internet and found sites on which the information I was interested in was presented.

If the question concerns some well-known phenomena (popular people, films, etc.), then on the right side the search engine shows the basic information. In my case, this is a short biography and the famous works of the artist.

And in the center, Yandex shows sites (or rather, pages of sites) with information - their addresses and a summary. I’ll tell you more about them, as this is the most important part of the search.

Yandex found them very, very much. But first, the search engine shows those that for some reason it considers the best. And most often he is not mistaken - the rest of the resources, as a rule, are of the worst quality.

All these are all small announcements. Each of them has a blue-blue heading, followed by a brief description (black). And above the description is the website address on the Internet (green). And to be more precise, the address of the article is the site with the necessary information.

After all, on each site, as a rule, not one page with information, but many. For example, one article about Leonardo Da Vinci, another about Michelangelo, the third about Rembrandt and so on. And each of them has your own address   as part of the site address.

It's like a magazine in which there are many pages and they are all numbered - each has its own number.

For example, I liked the first description, and I want to read the whole article. To do this, hover over the heading (arrow). The cursor will look like a hand with outstretched finger. You need to click the left mouse button once.

By the way, on the Internet you need to click everything once, and not two, as on a computer.

By clicking on the title of the announcement, a new page will open. This is the page of the site about which Yandex “told” us. Now you need to run your eyes through the text. If the information on this page does not fit, close it and return to Yandex with the search results. We open another announcement of the proposed.

You can open not one but several pages at once. The main thing is not to get confused in them :)

All open sites are at the top of the browser program in the form of bookmarks:

That is, when we open some kind of announcement, it turns out that we have two sites open. The first is Yandex with the search results, and the second is the one we opened from the list (one of the results).

But back to the search. I already said that for a start Yandex shows those pages that, in his opinion, are the best. All the rest (and there are hundreds or even thousands) are at the bottom.

If you go down to the very pages of the search results, then there will be numbers.

To do this, turn the wheel on the mouse or move the slider on the right side of the browser.

Behind them are other pages that Yandex found. Click on the number "2". A page with announcements of other sites will load.

So, if what Yandex gave at the very beginning didn’t fit, you can see other announcements (and sites) that hide under the numbers at the very bottom of the search results.

Google (google.ru)

The second search engine that you should be able to use is Google (google.ru). The principle is the same. We type google.ru in the address bar of the browser and press the “Enter” button on the keyboard.

A very simple page will load. In the center is the line for printing the request.

Type in this line what you want to find on the Internet (search query). After that, press the Enter button on the keyboard or the Google Search button on the site itself.

A new page with announcements will load. Everything is very similar to what we have already seen in Yandex.

Just like Yandex, we read the announcement, and if it seems that it fits, click on the title. A site will open with information on our topic. If this is really what you need, we remain on this site. And if this information does not fit, we close it and return to Google again.

And, like in Yandex, there are numbers at the very end of the search results page. Under these numbers are other announcements of sites on the topic.

In this lesson, we looked at a universal way to find information. Knowing only two sites - yandex.ru and google.ru - you can find anything on the Internet.
